They have a beach area and slides to enjoy with family. If you're not from around here the first thing you should do is stop at the visitor center to get a little idea of the area. They have maps, souvenirs, you can also go on a guided tour (hiking or boating). The history of Raystown is very interesting and thought I was born and raised it still fascinates me.

The Susquehanna River is a gentle river...the water is more like that of a bay or a lake. There are beaches and islands to explore. There are marinas and and docks so there is some traffic areas with boaters and jet-skiers, but it isn't daunting...just stick to the river bank until you're comfortable...you will be paddling in the middle of the river, soaking up the view like a pro before you even realize it! The staff is really, really nice, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend spending the day on the Susquehanna and Shank's Mare. note: the launch point is directly across the shop where there is public parking, picnic tables, docks, fishing, duck feeding, etc.

For example, part of The Standing Stone Trail is in the Greenwood Furnace Park! The trails go past areas including beaches, dams, forests, historic buildings and more! At times the hiking trails became overgrown. If hiking is not your thing they also have boating and fishing options. Obviously, the lakes in the park are usually packed with canoes and kayaks. When it comes to fishing, trout is sought after! After day-time activities you can cool of at the sand beach located on the lake. Around that area they have pagodas and barbecues that are great for picnicking! They also have a playground with multiple slides for the kids! During the winter time, they also have plenty of activities including snowmobiling, sledding and ice skating! The bathrooms here are new and clean so you can change into your bathing suit at the park! I would highly recommend this Park!

We wandered around the small, cluttered shop for 15 minutes before anyone asked if they could help us or what we needed. When we did talk to a salesperson at the store he was knowledgeable and straightforward. Unfortunately, they did not have kayaks for us. There was one there that fit my requirements but it was already sold. When we asked, we were told they have no idea if or when they would get another one like it. For that reason, I cannot recommend them for kayak sales, however, their stock of paddles, life jackets and other accessories was unparalleled.

Been going here since I was a kid and it has always been a great time. People on the river do get…read moreloud at times. The river is very shallow at points and you do tend to get stuck on the rocks. No outside food is permitted on the property so its either buy food at their bar or leave.
