Horrible customer service. They wanted to charge me for my 9 year old 12 euros just to sit down. Eventhough he wasn't going to eat and even though we had already bought him an icecream in the same restaurant. We left after not being served water which I had ordered 30 minutes prior and reminded the server twice. And no food had been brought. They went after us demanding we pay for a drink they had made which we never got served but somehow it was sitting in the bar ready for the server to bring to us. You can do as you please and money is not the issue. But if you keep up the horrible customer service, your business will fail. read more

I recommend having breakfast here. It's just across he Colosseum and their hot chocolate is very good around Rome; it's thick, creamy, but not too sweet. However, their dinner is not as good. Do not order the hamburger. The meat is not tasty and the French fries I think were re-heated. read more

Coffee was ok. Bacon was great! Close to the Colosseum. Unfortunately that's pretty much all I can say that's positive about this place. Food was *way* overpriced and the quality didn't justify that. But more than anything the bathrooms were terrible! No toilet paper. No running water to wash hands. I can't believe they let this place stay in business with hygiene conditions like this. I would pass if I were you. Unfortunately I'm me and there was no one to tell me to pass. We stopped by around 2pm mostly for the view. This cafe is located directly across from the Colosseum and produces an amazing view when sitting outside or by the window. The view was honestly the only good thing about this place. Our waitress seemed to disappear multiple times espywhen we wanted to order something. We spent about fifteen minutes waiting for the check. It was really confusing because you would think that in such a touristy area that would want high turn around with customers. Instead we were there for over an hour and a half. We literally got potatoes and one burger. The food was mediocre at best. I ended the meal with a cannoli and it was horrible. You could tell it was made in the morning and had been sitting in a cooler all day. The shell was soft, the cream was hard and I left most of it... if you know me you know I barely ever leave a dessert behind. Pros + FOOD: I loved the pizza that I got from the a la carte menu. It had artichokes, prosciutto and even eggs! Cons - BUFFET: the buffet looked very lack luster. If you're absolutely starving, it might be worth it but nonetheless it didn't look particularly appetizing. - SERVICE: Though friendly, that weren't as attentive as I would've liked. This is probably one of, if not, the best breakfast sandwiches we had while in Rome. We did grab and go at the cafe side. We stayed nearby and stopped for a sandwich to start our day. It was truly out of this world. I did feel somewhat of a disconnect from the staff. This may be attributed to location near Colosseum and the amount of customers coming in and out, or possibly the language barrier. I would come here again! read more

Don't go there, I mean it! Yes, it's right beside the Collosseum, but prices are high, service is bad and the toilets are the most grizzly thing I've ever seen in a European place! Only the shitty hole which was supposed to be the restroom in a Kenyan bus station I've been to was even worse. Instead of a floor the Oppio toilets have a grid and to keep away the drug addicts there is blue light. My friends and I found this little gem after a day of shopping. We were astounded by the awesome view of the Colosseum at night. We were even more astounded at the aperitif for 10 euro that included an all you can eat buffet and a drink. It seems like a nice place where locals came after work and see enjoyed doing something in Rome that wasn't too touristy. Overall,the food was decent. There was so much to choose from that there really aren't any complaints. The waitresses did a great job of restocking the buffet line every 10 minutes or so. This small cafe is where my tour group was meeting for a tour of the Forums and Colosseum. We went early to grab food. The pastas are a bit more al dente than in the states (a bit firmer noodle - not as soft as traditional American noodles are cooked) but the sauces were fabulous and the waiter was amazing! The Colosseum is directly across from the restaurant so the view is excellent and I will say the male servers were very nice to look at as well. We were served wine before and during the meal by a very attentive young man who took great care of our group. The wine was a winner, the pasta was excellent, and the dessert was totally worth having. Not to mention the service went above and beyond expectations. The only negative was the restrooms are very tiny according to my sister. Regardless I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a great place to eat that's friendly towards Americans! read more

This place ain't half bad at all. Yes it mainly caters to tourist but hey, it's directly in front of the Colosseum. What do you expect/of course they do.. We waited about 10 mins for a seat outside. We weren't expecting excellent food whatsoever since, as I said, it caters to tourist... but my food wasn't bad at all. I ordered the carbonara and got to have a glass of wine (for only 5€!) in front of the friggin colosseum. The prices are outstanding compared to America. My only warning is that this isn't your typical Italian place where you can take your time and enjoy the view for a while. Other people will want your seat and will stand near it to wait for it (totally rude). I would suggest the host place people who are waiting inside but I've also seen seats being taken by just anyone who walks up and grabs it first, so I understand that this could be difficult. Maybe try a "wait to be seated" sign? Also, they do expect tips. Just a heads up. read more

This was so close to the Colosseum that my Tourist Trap Radar was running pretty high. Pricey but not too bad - we opted for the €6 specials of the day: Cannolini and Tortiglioni a Ragu... both good portions that tasted great, and saved us from blowing the budget ordering off the menu. Excellent house wine €5. The place was crowded but the service was still good. The toilets were a bit sparse, and at one point there were about 8-10 people lined up to use the 2 toilets. We had a great view of the Colosseum from our table by the window. Overall, it was a decent place that wasn't a complete rip-off. read more

Went here for aperitivo which according to our b&b owner is a kind of Italian happy hour where you order a drink and get a bunch of free snacks. We chose Oppio because it was the closest place to where we were staying. Aperitivo here starts at 5.30pm and ends at 10pm. You pay EUR12 and get a free drink (which needs to be EUR8 or less) and unlimited access to the snack buffet. I ordered a Moscow mule which just tasted like watered down vodka with a hint of ginger. The buffet isn't heated so all the food was cold and soggy or cold and stale. The bar/restaurant looks and feels like a tacky nightclub with plastic furniture and neon blue lighting. If you sit on the right side of the restaurant though you get a pretty good view of the colosseum. I guess it is a pretty good deal but for me I'd rather be a nice restaurant with nice drinks with controlled but delicious snacks. I think there's a few places in Rome that do do this but unfortunately for us time ran out. read more

When I tried to sit down with my cafe late, I was quickly and rudely told that to sit would cost me 5 euros. The lady chased me down to prevent me from sitting. I've never been charged a sitting fee especially when no one was using the space. Whereas I went next door and got a seat and they provided me with wifi. They didn't hustle me out even when I sat to enjoy the view of the colosseum. I understand the need to make money but if I was not here to meet my tour group I would never go back. Came here straight from the Colosseum and just needed a place to crash for a snack and drink. Stopped off at Oppio kind of expecting the kind of tourist trap to be expected when the place is right across the street from the Colosseum. Pleasant surprise was the pizza we ordered (Prosciutto pizza) tasted quite good and the service was prompt and friendly. The fries we ordered was so-so at best. Price was a bit higher the normal too because of the proximity to the Colosseum. Get a drink and a snack but I would say move on if expecting a deeper experience. read more

Avoid here. Worst place and the rudest staff ever encountered anywhere. I arrived with my parents and pregnant wife with a view to get a croissant and coffee before the big day touring the Colloseum, but they were sold out of croissants and so we ordered the brunch which consisted of 2 fried eggs, a piece of bacon and a piece of toast (8€) and ordered coffee separately. Three of us ordered cappuccino and an another the American coffee. The American coffee came in a glass which was filthy around the rim so I returned that inside to nonplussed staff who replaced it. Then my wife came inside with my mothers coffee cup which had a dirty coffee ring 1/2 way down, completely unwashed since last use. The barrister (or probably not) also wasn't phased about this either. Unfortunately breakfast arrived while we were complaining and we gave it a chance. Wish we didn't. I feel sick as a dog 8 hours later. Absolutely the worst dump I've ever been too and the staff attitudes where all appalling. Save your money. There's a lot of tourist traps around but this is the worst. read more

I have been to Roma many times and always enjoy a break at Oppios for coffee, wine, and a light snack. It has a modern atmosphere which is a nice juxtaposition to the Colosseum and Roman forum. The prices reflect the good food, service, and atmosphere but are reasonable enough that this can be a stop for even a budget traveler. Like most places in Italy, not a ton of bathrooms, so be prepared to take your turn and be a sport about it! read more

This place is a shame! They let you pay € 3 for a coffee! Or you are allowed do have a coffee at € 1 but only standing and going away straight away! You have to pay an extra even to take a coffee sitting on the stool ! This is not Italian culture! I will never come back! And i recommend to avoid it! And the coffee was burn and cold! Stopped here for lunch with my husband and toddler. Its view of the Colosseo is breathtaking. Their burgers and fries were okay, but satisfied our craving for American food. The service was just okay. We made the mistake of ordering pop which costed us 5 euros each! Their restrooms are disgusting and are far worse than the bathrooms you use on an airplane. The food is just past mediocre and the service is awful. Our waiter went missing for about 10 minutes (not that he was there much prior) once we were ready for our bill. Our 5 year old wanted gelato so we went to pick out a flavor while my husband waited for the bill. We paid for the gelato where the cash register for that was and went back down to get my husband. Still no bill, or waiter, so we sat back down. They tried to charge us 4 euro because we sat down - seriously - at the table we were eating at for lunch. We refused to pay it as we were waiting on them, and got yelled at by two people. We paid for lunch and left - and not the 4 euro - and the waiter came outside threatened to assault my husband. Insanity. This is our third trip to Rome and we've never had such a bad experience. Stay away from this place, there are no redeeming qualities. read more
