The lobby was literally empty on a Saturday. My loved one was evaluated immediately and there was a clean room available and staff who checked in frequently. We saw a friendly doctor who actually read the chart. It wasn't cold and we had cable tv to watch. Because it could have been minor or serious, my loved one was fed and given a room in the "Clinical Decision Unit" to sleep in overnight to wait for an MRI. Our room was comfortable and I was able to sleep in a recliner. The staff brought blankets and a pillow. This may sound normal but it's a world away from Emory University Clifton hospital where we paid to park and waited in a freezing lobby crammed with sick people for 15 hours before seeing a doctor. We literally heard people screaming because they were in pain. There were no doctors, a nurse said someone died due to lack of staff, one of the security guards was stabbed in the hand, it was like a horror movie! Even if you called 911 and arrived on a stretcher (which is recommended to fast track service), you'll be lined up stretcher to stretcher to freeze and wait like the rest of us. It took several days and constant checking for an MRI, whether you were admitted to the hospital or not. And I'd still choose Emory Clifton over Decatur or Hillandale.. But now we have a better option. The only area for improvement at St. Joe's would be a cafeteria open on weekends but food delivery is available. We don't always need an ER but when we do, we will go to St. Joseph's. It's worth the drive!

I was assured this dye was different. About 30 minutes after discharge, I developed flushing, burning, and red patches on my arms and returned to the ER. My concerns were initially dismissed, and it wasn't until I showed staff the patches on my arms that I was given Benadryl and sent home. My symptoms continued to worsen, and I ultimately went to Piedmont ER, where I received a thorough evaluation and compassionate care. I left St. Joseph's feeling dismissed and unheard. I would not return.

The care that was extended by everyone doctor, nurse, respiratory therapist, social worker and later chaplain was nothing short of amazing. The new cafeteria was a hit. I had some delicious soup and it was much needed as hospitals are generally cold. The honor walk that I've seen online for strangers was a totally different experience being a part of. It was surreal and took my breath away. I will never ever ever forget the kindness shown to my family! Ever! Now we are left to mourn, but also with gratitude for the care we all received physically and emotionally.

Making sure both of my reasons were well understood and got the care I needed. I may have been in there for nearly 8 hours BUTTTTT I left with a weight off my shoulders the prescriptions I needed to care for my needs. Addison whitehead NP was so caring an my Rn Nnaka I believe is her name was simply amazing.
