Over the past few years, I've dealt with many psychologists and psychiatrists, and I've experienced first hand the frustrations of dealing with the mental health and substance abuse "system". For most, you have an hour, and once you've paid for that hour, you no longer exist. Follow up texts and phone calls might be returned, but probably not for a couple of days if ever. There's no real warmth or caring behind the professional, and they take no interest in the patient beyond that hour. After meeting with one particular psychologist for a solid year, we had to interrupt our regular meetings for the past 8 weeks. I would have expected at least a simple text "How is it going?", but I've heard nothing. Dr. Grieco was quite the opposite. He felt genuine, and while I'm sure he does well financially, I didn't feel it was all about the money. During a particularly tense moment in the patient's care, I called Grieco's office at 11pm to leave a message regarding care the next day. I expected to leave a voice mail, but he surprisingly answered the phone. I apologized, and said "I'm sorry, I didn't expect you to answer. I was going to just leave a voice mail. I can call back tomorrow." He said, "No it's ok. Tell me what's going on." That was quite a welcome relief at that moment, and especially at 11pm. If you can find a psychologist like this, don't let go.

Tanya seems compassionate and may be competent to provide general counseling services, but she…read moremissed my son's early stages of mental illness. Thankfully, my son told us there was something wrong with the counselor because she did not listen to his specific concerns while criticizing his family (his words) and suggesting he undergo hypnosis therapy. We reported this counselor to the pediatrician as a safety concern. We would not trust a vulnerable person with this counselor.

With previous therapists, I would always hit a wall, where either our personalities became incompatible or I stopped making progress. I have never hit this wall with Tanya, after immediately clicking with her in our first session. Tanya cares about me as a client and person, and she makes that evident in every session. She is committed to helping me take control of my life and to rise above my anxiety, depression, and trauma. She is highly empathetic and is able to tease the deep-rooted feelings out of me, even if I am unaware of them or am fighting against them. She begins each session by checking in on how I am feeling/doing and ends each session by returning me to center, no matter where the hour took me. Even though she bills for 50-55 minutes, she always gives me a full hour of her time. On a few occasions when I have felt unusually overwhelmed or anxious, Tanya has checked in on me outside of our sessions and has sent me helpful materials related to what I am currently struggling with. For all these reasons and more, I trust Tanya and feel that she understands me fully. Tanya uses a range of therapy techniques and will often check in with me to assess what type of help I need during any given week. I generally prefer talk therapy, but I welcome the occasional session of hypnotherapy, where I am gently guided and don't have to talk. In the four years that I have been seeing Tanya, I have experienced many stressful circumstances and situations, and Tanya has helped me through each and every one of them. Under her guidance, I have grown into an adult that I care about and trust, unburdened by the insecurities that I had at the beginning of our counseling. I think Tanya would be a good fit for almost anyone who is open to therapy and positive change and who is willing to engage in sessions fully and honestly. I participated in family therapy through the practice and attended the beginning of my children's sessions when requested. I was not a distant observer to these events. I was an active participant in the therapeutic process and had direct interactions with Susan Keenan over a period of years. My experience with Susan Keenan was deeply concerning. Information she provided in connection with my family's case did not accurately reflect the facts as I understood them and, in my view, contributed to a false narrative that had serious consequences for my relationship with my children. What makes this particularly troubling is that when Ms. Keenan made statements to the Guardian ad Litem regarding my family, it had been approximately six years since she had last treated my children. During those six years, she never contacted me to discuss concerns, verify timelines, review documentation, request updated information, or seek my perspective on events she was commenting on. I had previously communicated with Ms. Keenan, and those communications were positive in nature. In written communications, she described me as a positive influence in my children's lives. My prior interactions with her gave no indication of the concerns that were later attributed to her opinions. Despite having my contact information and having worked with me directly in the past, no effort was made to gather information from me before conclusions were formed and shared with the court. When I later provided documentation that contradicted key aspects of the narrative being presented, I saw no indication that those discrepancies were meaningfully addressed or corrected. More than two years after I posted my original review, that review was challenged and removed despite the fact that I retained and paid for the services, participated in family therapy through the practice, attended portions of my children's sessions, and was directly involved in the matters being discussed. The fact that a review was challenged years after it was posted does not change the underlying facts of my experience. Mental health professionals who become involved in family court matters wield tremendous influence. In my experience, that influence was exercised without adequate fact-checking, without input from all relevant parties, and without the diligence such serious matters deserve. Parents and courts alike should expect opinions to be based on current information, careful verification of facts, and a willingness to hear from all relevant parties before conclusions are reached. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Peachtree Psychology.
