ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Would not recommend this to my worst enemy. Fast internet and tv? More like make a fast trip to the phone to ask for a refund. The Wi-fi service was slow when we first got it installed, then after a while it was okay. The TV service on the other hand, sucks. They removed SO many channels and you had to "upgrade" to see the other channels. The only good things they have is the customer service, I'll give them that. (That's 2 stars). read more

My mother (at 96-years old) had a 25+ year account with Optimum. IMPORTANT: "Optimum" recently changed their name to "Sudden Link." They are the same company, so all the documented experiences below are valid for both companies. I returned to St. Joseph, MO (US) on sabatical from my 27-year long, full-time professorship in Europe to care for my mother as she is now in hospice. In addressing her finances, I found that her monthly fee for wifi + TV with Optimum was $301.oo -- EVERY MONTH! . We changed to United Fiber WHERE WE HAVE IDENTICAL SERVICE (including service for a wifi-equiped smart TV) for $28.30 per month. IMPORTANT: if you cancel Optimim one day past your billing cycle they STILL charge you the full monthly billing even AFTER they shut down your service. I.e.: We now must pay $301.oo for 2 days of ghastly service; they refuse to pro-rate billings). Additionally, the woman with whom I had to speak at Optimum in order to cancel the account (which took over two hours on the phone) argued with me, claiming that our monthly bill with United Fiber was too inexpensive and couldn't possibly be correct. When I suggested that she was mistaken, she spouted, "I am NEVER wrong!" (...wrong again). She was obstinant, insulant, and combative. The "b****" word is inappropriate, but in this instance, it is painfully correct. We ARE now paying $28.32 per month with United Fiber for identical service and everyone with United Fiber has been supportive, helpful, friendly, and they have NO set-up charges to run their fiber cables directly into your home. Optimum financially gouged an elderly woman--my mother--for years. Find ANY other provider, but given the limited options in St. Joseph, Misouri, I strongly suggest United Fiber. read more

We had an appointment scheduled today at 8:00 and the technician cancelled the appointment. Been over a week waiting on this appointment and then a no show and saying it was cancelled. This is the second time they pulled this BS. Worst cable company I've ever seen in my life. If there were another option for cable I'd recommend it. So cancelled our appointment and can't get us rescheduled for another week. Optimum Sales team will lie to you to get you to sign up for service. I was promised a promotion that would be $10 for internet and $25 for mobile service for 3 year locked price. However, the young punk who promised me the promotion lied through his teeth. The promotion never existed and instead of getting what I was promised I was given a promotion where I have to pay $20 for internet and $35 for mobile, for the next 1 year, not 3. I wish I could meet the sales rep that I spoke to so I could punch him in the face. Optimum will lie to you just to get you to sign up, and then when you do, they will increase the monthly charges (in my case $20) and just "hope you won't notice". If you do notice and try to call optimum, they will bounce you around like crazy. Internet and mobile are two separate departments. I got bounced between different departments and I kept getting hung up on. I asked for Sales and got transferred to bill. I was on the phone with these guys for over 2 hours trying to get my bill straightened out only to be told that there is nothing that they can do and that "it is what it is". I am currently looking for a new ISP and mobile service provider. read more

My mom and dad have Optimum in St. Joseph, MO. This company does not offer Kansas City stations, only ABC (Channel 9). It is selfish that they do not offer any other KC channels. My mom and dad pay a lot for this awful cable but get only St Joseph channels. The same programing throughout the day, news wise. Who wants to watch that all day? I wouldn't. When I go to visit them, I notice the sound goes off and on. Who wants to deal with that all the time? Not me or my mom and dad. Just because one person that pays them money (I am guessing) to only offer his channels they do it. This is not customer friendly at all. To me it is almost a monopoly. You pay premium prices, but do not get premium services. We can no longer watch Kansas City news stations (even though much of the city work in Kansas City). We used to have 4-5 Kansas City networks to watch the Kansas City news, but most were removed when Suddenlink took over, leaving one; and we lost that last one this week. This leaves us with only St. Joseph news, which is poor news casting, at best. If you have any technical issues, good luck with getting it resolved. The technical call center is in India, and can't do anything for you from there. If you choose to get service from this company, DO NOT get the Altice equipment. Absolutely the worst internet service I have ever dealt with. Sent the router for self install but had faulty equipment. Took them over a week to arrive to actually get the service going. They give me a time between 11-2 and take off work waiting, they never showed up and never called to let me know. Finally after being on hold bouncing around between people I cannot understand, the tech shows up around 5pm stoned out of his mind. They had to run a new line to the house and said it will take 2-3 months to get buried..WOW. After internet is up, it goes down around 10-12 times a day and have to unplug the router to get it going again. Very slow when it is working and constantly buffering. They tried everything under the moon to get me to stay by offering 2 months free, and down to $20 a month. NOT WORTH IT! Would not recommend this service to ANYONE! read more

Wifi was installed 3 days ago, and hasn't worked. Called yesterday and was told there was an outage in my area, but it still wasn't working last night or this morning. I was on the phone with a tech for forty minutes this morning. No luck, so drove 14 miles into the office. I was told the tech would be here between 2:00 and 5:00. I received a computer call at 5:05 saying they were "on their way". It is now 6:09 and nobody has come. Can't call the office, because they close at 5:00. I have wasted an entire day on this, and still no working wifi. I accidentally gave them two stars, but it was supposed to be one. Scheduled an initial hookup for 8/15 between 8-11 am, and waited around until 3:00 pm. Never received a call or an email. I called to reschedule and waited on hold for 50 minutes before being disconnected, finally got through to a live person on 8/17 and rescheduled. So I have been having trouble with either my TV service or internet service since July. I finally got a tech out there in October who went outside on the pole and said that squirrels had eaten into the wires at the pole. Now Suddenlink has charged me for two service fees and a late fee . A service fee of 120.00 and a late fee of 10.00. I have always paid way before it is due. I talked to the corperate office and the man was rude and hateful and told me too bad even tho this was all because they are lazy and would not go to look at the pole. Price keeps going up and up while features keep getting cut. Unlimited data used to be included in any package over 100mbit; now it costs an extra $10 a month. Modem rental is mandatory, you cannot buy your own. I pay for "400mbit" service and I'm lucky to get 80mbit. I've called several times to complain and I always get the same answer: "It's "up to" 400mbit". I've had the 100mbit package, the 200mbit package, and now the 400mbit package and the internet speed has never exceeded 100mbit. Why pay for higher speeds if the only thing that is higher is the price? The unlimited data option used to make it worth it to get a higher speed package because my kids watch Netflix and used to go over on data. I've ran several speed tests, even straight to suddenlink's own location which is about 9 miles from my house and it's always the same result: speed leaps up to around 100mbit and then flatlines. If I were a betting man, I would say they are intentionally capping the speed. It doesn't matter if it's 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning, it's always slow. read more

Worst cable company EVER. They advertised a free $200 Visa gift card for new customers when they signed up if they used 'auto pay'. I set up autopay..it worked great..then the 3rd month in..the autopay didn't work..which disqualified me to receive the card. I spoke to 2 different supervisors..BOTH admitted it was a glitch on their end and they would make sure to send the Visa Gift Card. 10 months later, approximately 25 phone calls, conversations with every department possible, endless promises to resolve the situation..still no card. I went as high as I could in the chain to talk to the top supervisor and was told today (09/08/2022) that she could do nothing to help me. (her words). As soon as United Fiber reaches my area in St Joseph I'm done with Suddenlink (Optimum). Everyone who HATES SUDDENLINK in St. Joseph, MO..be patient..United Fiber told me it will be 80 per month for BOTH internet and cable tv and hopefully it will be next year. Trying to cancel is taking an act of Congress. If you don't have your 4 digit access code they won't help you start the process. The access code is on the Bill, however, since it is emailed to me, I can't pull it up due to their crappy non working WiFi. When I asked Michael to speak with his supervisor, well there wasn't one. I don't know what else to say other than horrible customer service. If you have any issues, you have to call one of their many numbers and go through a series of recordings to possibly get in touch with a service agent who might be able to assist you. Even when you get lucky enough to talk to a service agent, half of the time the service agent does not know how to help. Furthermore, every time you talk to someone, you get different information. Suddenlink will constantly raise your bill and use the excuse that you had some sort of promotion on your bill that previously ended. If you ask about ways to lower the cost, they will tell you that the only way possible is by adding a service (ex. an additional tv package). Moral of the story here is that if you like being taken advantage of and possessing a constant headache, then suddenlink is for you. If not, use a different provider. read more

Just terrible. I think it is the same with all cable and internet providers, but I haven't had as bad of an experience as I had with Suddenlink. You get on the phone, be put on hold for 15 minutes and end up very dissatisfied. I tried to cancel my account over the phone but the customer service representative told me I had to do that in store. I went to the store, thinking I had to return my modem and nope, I didn't need to go to the store - I had forgotten that I bought my modem. Also, I was paying for 50 Mbps, but got 27 Mbps max! I am wondering how it is that trying to get into Suddenlink and their e-mail after they did so many upgrades on the 13th, 14th & 15th of this month, February, is next to impossible. I tried for 2 days to check email and it's been nothing but an exercise in futility. Not only this but all our devices are having extreme difficulty connecting to wifi. Our TV's that are connected wirelessly shut down & reboot on their own. I have talked to Netgear Support and our Arris surfboard router and the Netgear wifi extender seems to have difficulty staying connected even though the surfboard and extender are in perfectly good working order. Disgusting, borderline illegal abuse of customers. Just returned home from trip to Suddenlink store to question my monthly internet bill, almost twice the regular amount. Was told excess charges were for exceeding my current internet. Signed up for increased internet capability and then was informed I owed for additional excess charges. My monthly bill is normally about $75, ended up paying $211 for one month's service. What a crappy company. Their system generated an upgrade to my service increasing my bill by a $150 month and while they apologized for error they had already deducted the payment from my account. The representative (Mary) was kind and helpful as she verified that this error was caused by their system and asked me to call back in an hour (because again their "system" was having problems) and a refund would be made and my future billings would be corrected BUT when I called back the representative went over the same questions even though she had read the notes. After 30 minutes of this she told me "I am sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced but I need to turn this over to my supervisor." Of course the supervisor was not available and but would call me in 3-5 days. They created the problem, they took the money out of my account BUT I am the one who has to wait and wait for a resolution and go over the same questions repeatedly. Horrible cable company. They are the reason people cut the cord. Clearly I need to follow that example. read more

ONLY USE SUDDENLINK IF YOU LOVE TO WASTE TIME AND MONEY. I am a college student and this is my first time dealing with an internet provider. I have had nothing but problems with this company. It all started when I received a call about a "really good deal" about an hour before the installers were scheduled to come and install my internet. I was told that I would be locked in at $65.11 each month so I went with that deal. My first bill reflected this really good deal. Then during my second month of service there was a system update and I would consider it to be anything but an update. My next bill was $169 and I have now wasted 8 hours on the phone trying to resolve the issue. I have been on hold for the majority of that time and when I actually do talk to a person, they can rarely offer any meaningful help. I have been transferred to just about every department they have because no one knows how to resolve my issue or where to send me. I have spent more time trying to resolve this issue than I actually have watched the tv they provide. Do not use this company. I would rather go to a local coffee shop for my WiFi every time instead of dealing with this company. Please do yourself a favor and go with a different internet/cable provider. read more

I have to give them a 1 star because I'm unable to give them a 0 Stars. They are absolutely the worse company. Overpriced internet, horrible customer service, slow internet, terrible technicians that don't know what they are doing, and are all subcontracted so don't care. I was charged a $60 service fee for them to send out 3 different people that still haven't done their job. They will not refund or waive the fee due to them stating that it is a valid fee for the fact that the first tech changed an indoor wire that he had to undo because it made the internet speed slower. He noted my account so it's a valid charge they keep telling me and they won't or can't waive the charge. They also charge a $3 franchise fee to all customers each month which is roughly $2.5 million a month in a single franchise fee to improve their service capabilities.
