We called to schedule an appointment using their website and check if this was in-network. While this was not in-network for us, the reason why I give 1 star is due to our experience with the front desk. The man on the call did not acknowledgement our frustrations with the website. He did not properly answer our concerns and was dismissive and rude to my friend when she tried to schedule an appointment. I hope that whoever chooses this place is able to get past the awful front desk experience and find a good doctor. Wonderful Care! When the WTA special transit picked my son up very late at the nursing home, Dr. Bearden went out of his way to accommodate his 40 minute late arrival. Its is not easy to get my son out of the nursing home to other places, so we are exceedingly grateful. Dr Bearden was also very patient with his exam, and was able to correct a complicated prescription that a different optometrist had done incorrectly twice. The glasses came in right on schedule. When my son received the new glasses, he was so thrilled- they were perfect! He now has complete clarity and no double vision at all. This is the first time he has been able to see well since an accident 3 years ago left him with serious brain injury. We are so thankful! read more

Visited at 67 years old: Was told I have dry eye, beginning of cataracts, vision change...nothing out of the ordinary for aging 67 year old eyes. However, I was billed for a medical diagnosis and told I signed a paper that allowed them to do that! I have been in and out with a variety of eye issues (vision, dry eyes, floaters, etc.) I have absolute confidence in the doctors at OPNW. I read many of the 1* posts and have to say that I have not had the experiences described there . . . other than the parking is a pain! If I could give no stars I would. I took my child for a specific issue that was completely dismissed and only addressed at the end after I had to bring it up as not yet been addressed. At check in we were told of an Optimap imaging scan that would need to be done (not covered by insurance and $45 out of pocket). Between the front desk, tech and doctor I had to decline the scan 12 times (that I counted). This place is a total joke and I am so sorry for the families who have been scammed. We will be seeking a second opinion in Kirkland due to recommendation from several ophthalmologists reviewed the chart notes from Optometric Physicians NW. read more

Dr. Bearden is excellent at his job. I know that because my family and I have been patients for 20 years. Unfortunately since the merger this medical office has become chaotic to an intolerable degree. Multiple people in the tiny hallway causing everybody to do the sideway hustle, bumping into each other as they duck into an examining room to allow others to pass. I can't imagine that the doctors and staff enjoy the chaos. Regardless, for the sake of their current patients and those of the future, this organization needs to rethink its goals, besides making money. In addition and most importantly patient files should never become mixed up with another patient's files - let alone three times. That freaked me right out the door to another vision health provider. I hope their tide turns. I am deeply disappointed. read more

Was transferred to OPN from my previous doctor as he retired. I have had 4 appointments and have received a warm welcome and treated on time. The doctor shared with me the needed treatment and did not push me to get new glasses as my eyes had not changed. He had my eye exam from previous appointments and went over with me what was happening to my eyes and showed me what minimal changes were accruing. Appreciate the various test they do on my eyes! When I mentioned my eyes were tired from computer work, he recommended I get glasses for working on the computer. They have helped my "tired eyes" greatly. The only drawback to the office is the parking situation, which is limited and confined. read more

This place was terrible... the number of employees and patients in the waiting room and exam rooms made for a chaotic disorganized feel. It took two hours for a basic eye exam and the actual optometrist only spent about 15 mins with me and kept trying to rush off when I was asking questions. I was filtered through four different employees and had to keep repeating eye tests and relaying information. Then I had to remind the receptionist what was covered by my insurance so she didn't charge me too much. Honestly, it felt like most employees were untrained and overly stressed by the number of patients. read more

I was referred to this office by my physician after a concussion. I agree with the other reviews that there is a chaotic feeling and many employees seemingly working. The doctor recommended that I get single vision lenses to speed my recovery. The optic shop has not received the correct lenses for various "reasons" now for five weeks. My recovery has been delayed by this and at my last visit the doctor asked me how I was doing with the single vision lenses and I told her I had not received them. She then recommended a $700 computer program for vision therapy. Ironically, I need the single vision lenses to work on the computer. The vision therapy report had six spelling errors. I have serious doubts about the quality of this clinic and the doctors there. read more

On March 22, 2023, I ordered new lenses for my glasses and new reading glasses to wear over my contacts. The bill was $995.40. I could have done better elsewhere but wanted to support local business. They called me 4 times to pick up my order and each time it was the reading glasses were not what I ordered. One of these trips I waited over 45 minutes to be handed the wrong pair of glasses. On June 2, 2023, I wrote them a letter in hopes of resolving this issue. As of today, I have not received a response, no glasses and no refund. I would NOT recommend them. read more

This is an update of my review from last year. I received a voicemail from this office today, reminding me of my "scheduled appointment" in June. They asked me to confirm the appt and told me that o would be charged if I failed to keep it. The thing is that I have NOT scheduled an appointment with them as I never plan on going there again. When I called the office, I was told that they had reserved an appointment time for me "as a courtesy" and asked if I wanted to keep that time or reschedule. The worst office I've been to in my 20+ yrs. of wearing glasses. My Dr. retired so I went to this hell hole. Total CHAOS, filthy lobby, charges for everything even though it was covered with insurance! Double charging! I was charged a co-pay when I don't have a co-pay and they refused to refund it. Charged me a contact fitting fee which my insurance also covers and wouldn't refund it. My prescription is so WRONG that I can't wear it without instantly getting a headache and being nauseous. They would not do a Rx re-check until I've word the glasses for more than 2 weeks and told me because I didn't buy the lenses through them that it wasn't their problem. I needed specific Rx safety glasses which they don't even carry. The staff is incredibly RUDE both in person and on the phone. When I called they thought I was on hold (I wasn't, I could hear them) and they talked about me and snickered (called me names). I've been trying to get this worked out with them for over 3 months! Seriously, stay way from this place. You would have a better outcome if you poked your eye with a stick and slapped a Band-Aid on it. read more

We experienced so many issues with this clinic in the 6-ish months my daughter was a patient. Reception- CONSTANT miscommunications, be it regarding billing, appts, prescriptions, etc. it seemed like every person told us something different. I've currently had to cancel the same appt 3 times (despite me telling them repeatedly we are no longer going to that clinic). You get the gist. The office in general feels chaotic. Optical dept- my daughter popped a lens, we brought glasses in and within a few days her frames completely broke WHILE she was wearing them, just sitting. This started the month long frustrating journey of getting them repaired (they ordered wrong "parts", wrong this, wrong that). My daughter with major vision issues went without glasses for a full month setting her back in therapy. Vision therapy/appts- i can say that Sabina the vision therapist is FANTASTIC. They have the sessions squeezed into a back room with people constantly bursting in and out, or loud personal conversations in the other room between staff. it didn't facilitate an environment for my daughter to concentrate since there was constant distractions. What made me decide to look elsewhere was when we started the therapy, after months of coming in, getting my kid's eyes dilated (which was super distressing for her), reading eye charts, etc, apparently they had NOTHING in her chart to go off of. No information!! Then why did i pay hundreds of dollars bringing her in for those months beforehand?? When i asked a tech about this, my daughter "not sitting still" was apparently the reason? Seriously? She has been incredibly compliant especially for only being 3 years old. Also, during one of those appts i was sprayed in the face with the dilating solution while holding my daughter, causing just one of my pupils to expand. Dr Amy pointed it out and said i should book an eye exam because that's not normal lol. Maybe if the room hadn't been peppered with the spray I'd take that into consideration. If you need the occasional eye exam, maybe this place is fine. But dealing with this clinic on a weekly basis drove me nuts. Now that we see a different, calmer, more organized clinic for vision therapy it only brings home the realization how stressful this clinic is to deal with. I am giving this clinic 2 stars SOLELY because Sabina the vision therapist is great. read more

This place is extremely disorganized and unprofessional. We were referred here for my three year old to have an eye exam. The process seemed rushed and I left feeling uneasy, especially after I received a phone call letting me know that I walked out the door with the wrong prescription and that I should instead use a different one. A year later I tried to give them a second chance and they immediately tried to upsell me my encouraging me to have my son get the Optomap instead of having his eyes dilated. We had to leave the appt quite quickly because we were late for another appt and the doc assured me that they'd call me with my son's new prescription (this is after they checked his eyes three separate times on the same machine). A few days later, I got a voice mail and they asked me if they could take a look at my paperwork (which I didn't have since I had to leave early). They had lost everything on their end and tried to cover by asking me to make another appt. for a "more comprehensive" exam. The optician also tries to upsell every step of the way and leaves you feeling confused about which options are covered by insurance vs. which ones are extra. Fairly sure I ended up spending extra money on lenses that we did not need. read more

First time going here. Ended up seeing both of the docs, both are nice. Technicians and technicians (in training) were also very nice. Had a very poor experience with front staff and the staff providing quotes over the phone. Inconsistent quotes (received two quotes in person and two via phone, price kept changing). Limited number of staff are knowledgeable. Incorrect information regarding the manufacturer rebate ($120 vs. $200), and incorrect information about product availability was provided (30 pack vs. 90 pack, the manufacturer doesn't even offer a 90 pack) Comprehensive eye exam $205, refraction cost $70, contact lens fitting fee $75, and I was charged another $10 (lens simple fit) when I had to go back to change from the brand of lens (I've never heard of) they first fitted me, to an Acuvue brand lens (which I've used for 10+ years). Free coffee and mints in the lobby. Considering if you have generally healthy eyes and just need an updated prescription, it's way too expense and fell to the bottom of my list over the course of this experience. I'm going back to Everything In Sight or back to Vision Plus next time. Pay out of pocket at Everything In Sight. read more

Very unimpressed with this place. The front desk staff are very inept and unknowledgeable. I would ask simple questions, and it was as if they didn't know anything about vision/contacts/glasses at all. They could not locate my prescription and asked me if I had it. Shouldn't that be a pretty basic piece of information in my file? So unprofessional and disorganized. I was incorrectly billed for contacts and it literally took a couple of months to sort it out. I left several messages with no call backs, had to go in person multiple times. I wasted SO much time talking with various people over one simple billing error. Ok so I'm going to start off by saying that I do not typically write reviews. My family and I have been loyal customers for over 10 years. This is the clinic we have always recommended to our friends and family and trusted to come to. However, we have all noticed a significant surge in prices during our past few visits. Let me start off by saying that the doctors and technicians are nice and do they're jobs well. However, the front staff and billing team tend to be spew misinformation about quotes and fail to provide clarity questioned asking for breakdowns of quotes. I had a contact fit and train in 2013 and have since not worn contacts. I asked if I could order contacts again and they told me I would have to go through a fit and train again even though I requested not to since I have already done it. When I asked about the price from the front desk they failed to give me a price range and told me that they could not tell inform me about the price until after the appointment. When I went to pay the bill it came out to $135.The first time I had this session it was free. I explicitly asked whether or not I would have to this appointment and the price prior. I was not only forced to make an appointment that I later found out was not mandatory since I had already had a fit and train but also forced to pay an exorbitantly high price for something that should be significantly less or free.* I will not be recommending this clinic in the future due shady pricing tactics and the utter lack of to when asked. I felt lied and cheated my most recent visit and many of my family members have also been thrown off about prices during their recent visits as well. I recommend to do as much research as possible when looking up a clinic and if they cannot provide clear answers with strong reasoning then maybe it's not the clinic for you. * I also made sure to do my research by contacting several other clinics in the area after my appointment to see what the average cost of contact fit and train was with my insurance. It was at least 50% or more off compared this clinics prices. read more

I've been a patient at OPN for five years, but my wife isn't a patient (she hasn't seen an optometrist since we moved to Bellingham). When I came home from work last night (Friday) at about 6:00, I found my wife in a great deal of discomfort; she thought she might have scratched her cornea when she was putting on her makeup that morning. I was going to take her to the emergency room, but first I called OPN to leave a message in the hope I might get a call back to get some advice. The office was closed, but I left a message and within ten minutes Dr. Brad Bearden called me and asked how soon I could bring her into the office, to which I responded "fifteen minutes." He said he'd meet us there. He had clearly been home with his family because he had shorts and a T-shirt on, but he welcomed us and brought my wife right into an exam room. Not only did he treat her, but because she wasn't an existing patient he also set up her patient record on their system, something he normally wouldn't have to do. And as if everything he had already done wasn't enough, he told us to call him on his personal cell phone number at any time if she had any problems or concerns. What we experienced from Dr. Bearden is the kind of care that you don't see much anymore. The staff and Dr. Bastian were prompt, efficient, very friendly and reassuringly competent. They've set up follow up exams. I feel very comfortable and confident...they're the best! Drs. Brad, Amy and Phil, you lost 5 patients this week due to your terrible business office. We were offered a deal on a large order of contact lenses and we paid the amount promised. We did not seek this offer, you presented it to us saying you could beat the Costco price. Later, your business office staff sent us a bill for $120, the promised discount amount. We called numerous times and were told a different story each time. Eventually, your staff sent us a letter threatening to send us to collections over the $120. So, we went to the office and spoke to your staff and they explained that we were told the wrong price on the lenses. So, you are offering a bait and switch deal?!?!? Not cool. So, for the $120 discount you promised on some lenses, you lost 5 patients, all patients are double covered with insurance, 2 purchased glasses from your optical department and one purchased lenses from your office. My 1st visit here was excellent. I went through the glasses and contacts exam, an eye dilation, and a few other standard tests. The assistants and doctor walked me through each step, but treated me as an intelligent being. As my eyeglasses had not changed, I was not pressured to buy new ones. Horrible to deal with administrative. I moved, wrote my new address and phone number on my patient update form. They do not update the information and blame the delinquent account on me after I called asking about a contact rebate they sent in for me (which I had not received) and we found out they had the wrong address and phone #. After finally getting the bill and making monthly payment towards the bill they sent a pamphlet for a credit card, very uncalled for. After finding a much better Optometrist's practice in Bellingham, I went back to check these ratings, and found my previous negative rating missing (of Optometric Physicians, which I have not seen in over a year). I want to offer my agreement with all of the negative comments, and want to assure readers that if they look around in Bellingham, they can find far superior services at more reasonable costs, without the political and religious bias that seem wired into Optometric Physicians Northwest. I agree with the upselling - it definitely happens here. And the admin staff can be very condescending and rude. But the kicker for me was getting some political propaganda fed to me from the optometric assistant. WHAT? Adding insult to injury was that it was inaccurate, uninformed, bigoted and completely opposite of my own beliefs. If you are looking for a place that can take care of your overall eye health and vision, this is the place!

I am very accustomed to rating patient care as a high priority as that is also an area I am immersed in daily. However, I feel this office focuses on the robotic efficiency of the process more than connecting with the patient. The front office staff should be the first stop for kindness and genuine customer service. After having your exam, you are quickly ushered into the frame section of the office. You are not asked if you would like to view frames, you are automatically taken in there. There seemed to be an expectation to buy glasses there rather than being offered the option of taking the prescription with you. I was told I would have a $3-$4 out of pocket with my glasses and when my bill was rung up, it was over $100. No explanation of the charges & due to a busy area, there was no opportunity to question the charges. The focus in this office is to try and move patients quickly from one spot to another; lacking a warm experience. I do think they have state of the art technology but would love to see that combined with fantastic patient interaction and genuine eye-to-eye, smiling staff, who engages more with their patients. read more
