Ecstatic a modern and decent Italian restaurant opened in Oradell! Adds to the town's aesthetic. My family went there for my mom's birthday dinner, and we all enjoyed our meals. However, the Pt. Judith Calamari ($19) and the Squid Ink Linguini ($34) were the hits of the night. One of the best fried calamari's, and the linguini was so soft and flavorful. My mom got the Swordfish Milanese ($35). Nothing too crazy. It almost just tasted like Parmesan chicken. My husband got the Roasted Half Chicken Scarpariello ($33). He thought it tasted a bit bland, as a chicken lover. To be fair, he prefers stronger flavors like Peruvian Chicken, though. I got the Ravioletti ($32); it was simple and tasteful, but wish the raviolis were slightly bigger. I wanted ricotta cheese to burst in my mouth with every bite, but the raviolis were so tiny... The honeynut squash was enjoyable. With it, I also got a limoncello mocktail ($12; it may have been the Green Goddess). It was super sweet; basically lemonade. Nothing too crazy. Service was okay. There's valet parking available, or you can street park nearby. Borderline 4 stars, but giving them 5 to give them a boost. read more

Street Parking but has a very quick curbside valet service. ORA is one of those typical Northern Bergen County restaurants. Spend a lot of money on decor and design. (On a weeknight?) have 4 young hostesses greet you at the door? Too much and you're paying for it. Happening, loud bar\lounge area on 1st floor with one dining room. Second floor has a large dining area that can be partitioned off for various sized parties. Nice... I saw a 2nd bar inside one of these rooms that an active party was going on in. My only problem is that its a Ramsey\Ridgewood-type place ( including pricing) on Kinderkamack Road in Oradell. (if you know you know). Nonetheless between Ora and the fairly new Oak House down the block, maybe Oradell is changing. But be prepared to go $125pp+ easily if you have some drinks. Good cocktail list; was not impressed with wine list. Drinks were good. Service was excellent. But again, the main reason for going was The Food. Menu was OK, mid-sized. A little of this and that. Chef likes his Calabrian chili oil. But most ( not all) of the food we tried was just OK. We had & shared.... --ORA CHOPPED SALAD with salami, prosciutto-cotto, provolone, iceberg, radicchio, ceci, pepperoncini, and sicilian oregano vinaigrette. This was very good, tasty. Italian oregano goes a long way. Tasted very similar to a Jersey Mike's Submarine hero without the bread. (I'm a fan of Jersey Mike's when you cannot get to a real old school Italian deli) --CACIO E PEPE ARANCINI (rice balls) with calabrian chili aioli; 4 small golf ball sized and totally not worth it. --Food-fired pizzas ( 6 small slices); we had the MONTANA that had gold potatoes, fontina cheese, sweet onions, rosemary, and garlic confit. This was very good and everyone loved it. Must try other pizzas if I go again. --HERBED POLENTA FRIES (side dish) with parmigiano, black garlic aioli was very good. --TUSCAN CREAMED KALE (side dish) with caciocavallo provolone, black truffle oil, and parmigiano with fire roasted, chili oil, crispy shallots... A little too charred; tough; hard to cut into. Only item we did not finish. Entrees.... --ROASTED GROUPER with warm spring farro salad, favas, asparagus, sugar snap peas, roasted chickpeas, and lemon-herb yogurt; I tried; I liked; Lightly seasoned; tasty; but a good dish when you want something light. --RAVIOLETTI (mini ravioli) with English peas, lemon zest, parmesan broth, and tendrils. This was a major disappointment. It tasted ok but there was almost no stuffing in any of them. Light dish as there is no tomato sauce but a rip off at $32. This needs to be taken off the menu and replaced with a non insulting dish. Dessert..... --BRIOCHE BREAD PUDDING with vanilla anglaise, valhrona chocolate, mascarpone was very good but the chocolate is very pronounced and overpowers he rest. Noticeably small serving. --CHEESECAKE "BRUSCIATA" with roasted apples, salted caramel, brown sugar streusel; Again small round piece BUT tons of flavor; Best thing on the menu all night! Soooo good. Ambiance was beautiful. Decorated so pretty for the holidays. Our server was great and super friendly. Gave us great suggestions as it was our first time. The four of ordered the meatballs which were delicious and soft. Had a little kick to them but it was good. We also ordered a mortadella pizza that was out of this world and reminded us of Italy. I had the baby lamb chops for my entree and they were cooked to perfection. They came with gnocchi which were light and fluffy. I love the authenticity of the food here. If you get a pizza, it WILL taste like it is straight from Rome. I also think the nice windows and the area as a whole make for a very fancy and comfortable place to eat. The food also comes out pretty quickly and the servers are great. Our first time at Ora and was very excited about trying Ora after following them on socials for quite some time. Let me say, food was phenomenal. Absolutely no question about that. Ordered the meatballs and chopped salad for appetizers, and their version of spicy rigatoni and the mafalde. So so so good and delicious. The reason why I am not giving 5 stars was the service. We chose to sit outside because it was a beautiful night and we were the only ones out there to start. Service was great until we stopped eating our mains. We were sitting with our food in front of us for about 20-30 minutes and no sight of our waiter. Other servers have come and passed us but no one was coming to clear/see if we wanted boxes and see dessert menus. We figured it was just busy inside but at a certain point we had to flag someone down to get our server to take our food. When she eventually came back it was like nothing happened and no explanation for what was taking so long. We ordered some espresso martinis and then she gave us our check, another 15-20 minute wait to take it back. We were so confused about what happened half way through our dining experience. We would not have minded if we were given some kind of explanation for the delays but no it was like nothing was wrong. Went last night for our 35th wedding anniversary. Had a wonderful experience and meal. Our waitress was terrific. Bar area and drinks were spot on. Wife loved the chicken parm with vodka sauce. We had our anniversary here last week with Micaela as our server. She did a fantastic job! We're vegan and vegetarian, so she was extremely thoughtful in offering recommendations and confirming whether there was dairy in any of the dishes we considered. Even something as small as substituting oil for the butter on the side of bread was really thoughtful and appreciated. We ordered the crispy potatoes (cheese sauce on the side - increadibleee) and the cauliflower steak. The cauliflower steak was delicious but more of a stewed/ sautéed situation than a conventional cauliflower "steak" (we're used to the single thick cut of cauliflower crusted in breadcrumbs). The roasted grapes on this dish were a great touch. We had tickets to a show after dinner and Micaela was very considerate to ensure that our food came out quickly and our bill was paid in time for us to comfortably make it to the show. Prices here are a little elevated, but actually not too bad for the quality. Drinks were good pours and all good was delicious. I was here for a business dinner and everyone enjoyed the night. We ordered many small plates and entrees for all... And everyone finished everything. That basically means that portions are about adequate. Not super small, but you won't be taking food home from this place. The spicy olive martini was great. Vermentino wine was smooth and flavorful. I particularly enjoyed my whole fish orata dinner. Tasty fish. I even saw some families dining here with kids and I could see that. It's a classier/trendy place, but also fine for families too. A Disappointing Saturday Night Experience at Ora's Upstairs Lounge We were a party of four, coming from a fantastic dinner at RP Prime, and my date and I suggested continuing the night with drinks at Ora. We had been there just a few nights prior, enjoying the upstairs lounge, which had left a great impression. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the host and mentioned we'd be heading upstairs for cocktails. She assured us that was fine. As we made our way up, I noticed the downstairs bar was quite crowded. However, when we entered the lounge, it was nearly empty--just a couple seated near the bar and the bartender tidying up. My date politely asked if we could still order drinks, given the quiet atmosphere. Without looking up or acknowledging us properly, the bartender mumbled that she was "I'm only doing mixed drinks." This didn't seem like an issue at first, as we were in the mood for cocktails rather than beer or wine. Unfortunately, the service only declined from there. The bartender continued to straighten up the already immaculate space rather than take our orders. When she finally returned, I asked for a dirty martini--the same drink I had enjoyed on Thursday. She curtly repeated, "Mixed drinks only, I'm not shaking drinks tonight." Confused, one of our friends asked if that was because she had already put the mixers away or if the bar was closing soon. Rather than answering, she instead questioned whether he should even be drinking, insinuating he was intoxicated. This was an absurd assumption--we had only had two drinks at dinner. Still baffled by the situation, I settled on a stirred tequila with pineapple juice, as did my girlfriend. My date ordered his usual Old Fashioned (luckily, a stirred drink), and our friend--who was wrongly accused of being too drunk--ordered a glass of red wine. As more people trickled in, we noticed another staff member seating guests and handing them cocktail menu--something we were never offered. The stark contrast in service was frustrating. To make matters worse, my drink was overly sweet and left me with a headache the next morning. Overall, the experience was a 1/10. It's unfortunate, as the dirty martini I had on Thursday was one of the best I've ever had. I will return to Ora for the food, but next time, I'll be sure to check who's behind the bar before heading upstairs. read more

I'd been wanting to try Ora for awhile now but since it is very pricey my husband and I wanted to wait for a celebratory date night to make a reservation. We sat at the high tops near the bar which were extremely comfortable. The ambiance was awesome, great music, not too loud, and never felt too crowded for space near other patrons. Our waitress was wonderful and kind but not overbearing, she helped me pick my entree and our appetizer which we couldn't decide. The wine was top notch as was all the food, complete quality and perfect portions. They even gave us complimentary champagne at the end of our dinner to celebrate our recent marriage. It's modern and elegant ambiance is extremely welcoming and you know right away you walked into a high end spot. The service is great, everybody is attentive, knowledgeable, and super friendly. Disappointed & Still Hungry: Our $3,000+ Lesson at Ora Freestyle Italian Event: Birthday Date: April 30th @7pm Let me start with this: I really wanted to like Ora. The speakeasy entrance was promising--vibey lighting, modern décor, and that "this might be a cool night" kind of feel. But then...the evening unfolded. We were a party of 18--yes, eighteen hungry adults ready for a good time and good food. We deposited money and paid $3,000+ overall, which came out to around $170 per person. For that price point, I expected to be wined and dined. At the very least, I expected a wine list. Instead, our prix fixe three-course meal that included a salad, penne ala vodka, and a choice of entrée (salmon, filet mignon, or short ribs). And drinks? Just coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Not a single drop of wine, beer, or a celebratory cocktail was included. You read that right--$170 and not even a welcome Prosecco! Want a drink? That'll be extra. Yep--it's a cash bar, folks. So go ahead and tack that onto your $3,000+ tab, and maybe leave a little extra for the emotional damage. Let's talk about service. One server. One helper. For 18 people. That's not a dining experience--that's a staffing cry for help. For a group of 18 is ambitious. Bold, even. I asked for coffee. It came. Sugar followed. But milk? I had to ask twice. After a while, the server seemed to get tired of the multiple requests and simply dropped the coffee pot on the table like we were at a corporate seminar. We poured it ourselves. At that point, I felt like I should've also tipped myself and I half-expected someone to pull out a PowerPoint. The Food: * Salad: Sad. Forgettable. Plain. It gave "banquet salad from 2009 wedding." * Penne Ala Vodka: Under. Cooked. I'm all for al dente, but this was al dental emergency. I don't want to chew pasta like it's jerky. Or more like "al don't-e." Entrées: * The salmon was a tomato-heavy mystery. Less "pan-seared elegance," more "accidentally dropped in marinara." * The filet mignon was definitely not filet mignon. It looked like three thick slabs of something that took a wrong turn at the butcher! * The short ribs were essentially pulled beef--not fall-off-the-bone rich and tender, more like "hello, did I just get brisket?" And let's be honest--where was the Italian hospitality? No complimentary bread, no olive oil, not even a lonely breadstick. For a place claiming "Italian", that's almost offensive. I half expected someone to come around with a pasta grater or freshly cracked pepper. Nope. Just silence and a lot of confusion. The Room: We weren't seated in the main dining space. Instead, we were tucked into a room that felt like an unused conference space with a giant, off TV and walls that whispered "team-building workshop." No wow-factor ambiance, no lively music, just a closed door and a very expensive sense of isolation. I meaaan. The Speakeasy Lounge: This was probably the most ironic part. Ora's claim to fame is its hidden speakeasy lounge. But it wasn't functioning. It looked great for photos--which we took, because... content--but that's it. It was closed for the night, so the cool factor ended at Instagram. Parking: Valet only. "Suggested" price starts at $3 but the price seems to vary depending on how awkward you feel trying to figure out what's "appropriate." At that point, I was already in emotional debt. Final Thoughts: Ora Freestyle Italian? The only thing freestyle was the lack of structure, the odd food interpretations, and the make-it-up-as-we-go service style. For $3,000+, I didn't expect Michelin-starred perfection, but I did expect edible pasta, attentive service, and a sense that the evening was worth celebrating. What I got was underwhelming food, overworked staff, zero booze, and a very expensive lesson in lowering expectations. Would I return? Only if I'm being paid to do a mystery dinner review. Two words: swordfish Milanese! My boyfriend and I decided to try out ORA on a weekday assuming it was would be less busy but it was still pretty full! We had the fried calamari to start which came with some yummy dipping sauces. We shared meze rigatoni and the swordfish and we more than satisfied with the portions. Other apps were Sizzling Bacon, Seafood Salad and Caesar Salad-all were excellent. For entrees - they had me with Trofie Pasta with Truffle Cream and Oyster Mushrooms- OMG Great!. The other entrees were specials for the evening - a Ribeye for 2 and also a Dover Sole Piccata. The pricing for those at $175 and $92 were what dropped their rating from 5 to 4 stars.
