I had all four wisdom teeth and a molar pulled by Dr. Stern a few years back. From the moment I walked in for my procedure, I was met with warm and welcoming interactions from the front office staff, especially the Secretary and the front office coordinator who was very willing to discuss any questions or concerns I might have had. Based on the interaction I had in the front office I was ecstatic to have chosen this facility for my extraction That didn't end there, his assistant is amazing and makes sure that all patients are calm and ready for each procedure. Dr. Stern's bedside manner is what one should expect out of any doctor. He made sure that I was comfortable during the entire procedure. The girls who take care of patients post op were wonderful too. As I was coming out of anesthesia they were by my side to make sure I was comfortable and that my pain level was minimal. The next morning Dr. Stern called to check in on how I was feeling. I would strongly recommend this specific location of OMSC to anyone who needs oral related procedures done. read more

I had issues with an impacted wisdom tooth and my dentist referred me to Dr Stern. I was really worried because the tooth was close to a nerve. Dr Stern removed it and I had NO pain or complications. I highly recommend him!!!!! He is kind and patient and explained everything. His staff are so nice and don't rush you, and they are very compassionate. I would give them 10 stars. read more

My son had an appointment to have his wisdom teeth extracted; but it was switched to a later time the day before to squeeze in one more surgery. In addition, the initial consult was cancelled a day before after both my son and myself took off work for the appointment. Then, we waited for over an hour for the next consult. On the day of surgery, we waited for over two hours for the appointment as the staff said the surgery scheduled before my son's was taking longer than expected and kept extending the time. We were also told that the doctor would be willing to stay later to perform the surgery. Seriously? The doctor added an extra surgery at the same time my son was already booked! After that, we left because we were not comfortable or confident with this doctor performing surgery on my son. The complete lack of consideration for a patient's time and well being is beyond unprofessional. Be warned, that even though Dr. Stern is covered under many insurance plans and therefore affordable doesn't mean there aren't other affordable options to consider. read more

After waiting 1 month for an appointment simply for a consult get 2 teeth extracted and to discuss implants my appointment day finally arrived (yay). I am in a wheelchair due to Multiple Sclerosis (boo) and they asked if I could stand for a height and weight check. This would normally not be an issue but this practice is not ADA compliant and they do not have grab bars by the scale like they should for those with mobility issues. I was not able to complete this task so I simply told them my height and weight. Fast forward 50 minutes (wait time and this receives a BOO-HISS) this very nice young lady enters the consult room with the task of telling me I am too fat to have my procedure done in this office (she did not say it in these words but c'mon the message is the same). The Oral Surgeon didn't even the decency to come in and discuss this with me themselves. With this said, yes I may be overweight due to my disability but I have NO issues with using dental/procedure chairs at any practice I have ever been to. In my opinion, based on personal experience this practice is not ADA friendly and NOT accommodating to those who may have some extra poundage. I would not recommend this office to anyone who cares about these topics. Living with a new disability has been very eye opening for me and has turned myself and those who care about me into advocates for all. read more

Dr. Stern refused to pull all 4 of my wisdom teeth despite the recommendation of my dentist. Now, just a couple years later, I have to face this procedure again for the second two teeth. I am older, the healing process is longer, and I have more time off work, money spent, and have to endure a second time what could have been over with. I recently had a molar extracted by Dr Stern to prepare for having it replaced by a dental implant tooth. The office staff is very pleasant and helpful in explaining and answering pre- and post-operative questions. In the past I have had nausea when coming out of anesthesia, but after the tooth was removed by Dr Stern I had no nausea and the level of pain was easily covered by an over the counter pain reliever. This review is early in the overall timeframe of the whole implant procedure but so far so good! read more

I saw Dr. Stern for a wisdom tooth coronectomy (essentially the crown of the tooth is removed and roots are left behind.) My 3 other wisdom teeth had been removed 15 yrs prior - they were bony impacted at the time - and the surgeon left the 4th tooth behind bc the tooth's roots were wrapped around the alveolar nerves and chances were very high I'd have facial paralysis if it was extracted. My point being that this wasn't my first time at the rodeo - when I met the team and Dr. Stern. When I saw Dr. Stern back in May, it was necessary to deal with this 4th tooth since it was now trying to erupt through my gums and had actually poked a hole. One of the many problems with healing from a coronectomy procedure is that you have a gaping hole in your gums where your tooth once was, just as in a traditional wisdom tooth extraction. Except in a coronectomy, there are the exposed, raw, freshly cut, live roots of that tooth sitting at the bottom of that gaping hole. Those roots and the roots of the tooth in front of it are exposed, raw, and extremely painful to hot, cold, lukewarm...breathing...living...existing. It's God-awful...and I'm someone who lives with chronic migraines and chronic neck pain as a way of life. When I went in for my initial consultation, the waiting room was packed beyond capacity. A handful of people were forced to stand because there was literally nowhere for them to sit in a place that seats at least 20. It was obvious they were running extremely behind schedule. I had a migraine, but the tooth had to come out ASAP, so I was STUCK. They got me back relatively fast considering, and I explained how sick I was feeling and I just had to get out of there fast or reschedule. They stuck me in a room and forced me to watch a 20 minute, unbelievably cheesy, slow-paced, and idiotic movie about wisdom teeth and extraction (even though I told them I'd already gotten 3 of them surgically extracted and did not want or need to watch this thing!) When I finally met with Dr. Stern (after X-Rays and 2 pointless and repetitive conversations with an R.N. and some other person who didn't identify herself) he spent 5 minutes with me. I voiced my concern over 1 thing: effective pain management. I suffer from chronic migraines, chronic neck pain, and am currently on a narcotic pain patch. I asked him questions about his comfort and familiarity with dealing with pain patients. He quickly dismissed my concerns and stated, "I deal with chronic pain patients regularly. It's fine. No problem." Surgery day: everything went as planned and it wasn't until a day or so later that what I later learned was extreme nerve pain from those exposed nerves hit me like a brick wall. I called the office, but it was Friday afternoon and I was told it was prob too late for them to help me. WTF? They were saying that bc of my pain patch, they needed permission from THAT prescribing Dr to give me a higher dose of meds than the regular Vicodin they gave me post-op. They said they would normally just give me stronger meds, but they needed MY Dr's ok. I got my dr on the phone quickly & he said "sure, have 'em contact me ASAP. Happy to help!" But Dr Stern's office calls back & says they're not getting what they need from my dr. Huh? Then...Bam. They're closed. Come Monday, I'm still unable to sleep, eat anything at all (not even pudding, etc.) or drink much of anything bc of the shock-like jolts of pain. I'm suffering excruciating migraines that are even more intense than usual and unresponsive to my migraine meds bc it's the tooth-root pain that's triggering them. I've talked to my own Dr again at this point (the one that prescribes my pain patch.) He's furious at Dr Stern bc he keeps telling him to just prescribe me whatever he deems appropriate; it isn't a violation of my pain contract so he doesn't even know why Dr Stern is asking his permission! However, Dr Stern kept asking MY Doctor to take prescribing responsibility, meaning that Dr Stern wanted my Dr's ok to just write "whatever" but MY DR would have to agree to take responsibility for HIS prescription (in writing) if I had an adverse reaction or even DIED bc he wrote the wrong thing! So basically this surgeon, who supposedly is comfortable with chronic pain patients, is trying to get another physician to take responsibility for HIS prescribing? My dr also told me Dr Stern kept asking him what he felt comfortable prescribing. My dr is like, "You're the surgeon, not me!" The staff gave me conflicting info. One told me, "Dr Stern just isn't comfortable w pain meds." Another said, "Oh, he's comfortable, we just need consent from your dr." But when I confronted her about what my dr said re: there not being an issue with my pain contract, she got flustered & really couldn't say exactly what the issue was. NO ONE, including Dr Stern, followed up w me once after knowing I had complications. They offered me no other solutions, either. PATIENTS BEWARE read more

Unethical businessman. This guy ordered a $200k imaging device from me years ago, then ordered a competitors' product from a trade show days later and never bothered to inform me. My company paid for and received the item and when I called to schedule the training and install, he just blew off my calls. One time he answered and as soon as I told him who it was he hung up. I found out he ordered the other device from my competitor directly. I would never recommend visiting a medical professional who doesn't possess basic human decency. read more

First visit (consultation): we waited nearly an hour past our scheduled appointment time to get called back. When we went back, a nurse or assistant (?) gave us some basic information, and then played a 10-minute informational video while she was out of the room. She came back ~15 minutes later, asking if we had any questions; we did not; she said the doctor would be in soon. Around 15/20 minutes later, he came in, rushed but trying not to act like it (I mean how else would you feel after a long day of surgeries and consultations), and talked to us for a minute or two. At that point we really didn't want to ask any questions, because we had been there far too long, so we just left. We should have seen this day as a red flag, but we didn't want to go through something like this all over again at another place, so we just scheduled an appointment for the surgery. Second visit (surgery): Shocked at the unprofessionalism of the staff. Arguing with each other and at one point even cursing and shouting. One staff member (or two?) was complaining about and mocking customers after they hung up the phone (as two customers, including myself, sat in the lobby, clearly able to hear). I should emphasize that the majority of the staff members were great, and the doctor was fine. However, it seems they have one or two bad front-desk staff members that are creating a very negative and uncomfortable environment for the rest of the staff and customers. One staff member told a potential customer over the phone that they were only accepting new patients for a wait list; the customer said something, and then she repeated the same sentence, in an annoyed tone. When she hung up, she wondered loudly, "do I stutter? Do I talk like my jaw is wired shut?" There is clearly a cycle of frustration and negativity in this office, which I can sympathize with, and I freely admit that I don't know everything that's going on behind the scenes. But when you're not able to provide professional front-end service to customers, any success the business is having will not last. Until they are able to work out staff issues to provide professional service (which should really be a given), I would highly recommend you find another place to go! read more

Getting your wisdom teeth out is about as fun as... well... getting teeth pulled. Since I wanted to make sure that I was 100% completely knocked out when it happened, I looked up nearby oral surgeons on my insurance website, and found Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Centers. When I went in for my consultation prior to surgery, Dr. Stern and his team were friendly and professional, explaining the entire process to me and showing an informational video. They were kind enough to double-check insurance coverage for my x-rays, and they provided an estimated bill for the surgery upfront, so there were no post-op payment surprises. The morning of the surgery, the team who prepped me were very kind, joking with me to help allay my fears (this was my first time under anesthesia). Post-surgery, they provided me with ice packs and gauze, and the doctor called to follow up that night to make sure I was OK. This office is professional and kind, but for obvious reasons I hope to never have to see them again! But If I ever would have oral surgery needs in the future, I will definitely return to this office. read more

I see all the negative reviews about wait time and they are correct about the wait time. However - could that also mean that Dr. Stern spends quality time with his patients and doesn't rush them? To echo another reviewer's comments, I'd give ZERO stars if that were an option. DO NOT GO HERE, GO ANYWHERE ELSE. Staff is unprofessional and rude, wait times are unbearable and the location is horrible if you live anywhere but Powell. That said, my story... I arrived on time and was given an unnecessary amount of paperwork which was redundant and asked for information that is completely unrelated. Why do they need a driver's license number??? I completed my paperwork in about 14 minutes and was told that I had missed my appointment by 14 minutes and that they'd TRY to work me back into the schedule. I asked why they didn't email or mail me the paperwork beforehand and was told that they did but to the wrong address (somehow my fault). They then reiterated that they TOLD me to arrive 15 minutes early on the phone and that I should have been there earlier. No one ever told me to be there before the scheduled appointment time. Furthermore, I asked why they don't include 15 minutes of paperwork for new patients in the appointment time, and they just looked at me blankly and said they TOLD me 15 minutes early on the phone. Again, no one ever told me to arrive earlier than my scheduled appointment time. I was made to feel like it was my fault, that I was unprepared and would have to pay the consequence and wait until 4 people that arrived after me had been seen (estimated an hour or so, probably more based on other review). I can't speak to the actual dentist here as I asked for all of my paperwork and referral documents back and left. But to echo the other reviewers, the staff is completely unprofessional and their system is poorly designed and executed. DO NOT GO HERE, GO ANYWHERE ELSE. Just because your dentist referred you to them does not mean you can't choose your own provider. I suggest reading reviews and looking through your provider's website to find an office that doesn't treat their customers this poorly. You shouldn't be made to feel like a burden or that you've made mistakes, all the while enduring the toothache that sent you to this horrible establishment in the first place. ZERO stars. read more

I find it really curious on Yelp that other reviews for this practice that are not recommended or are hidden are FAVORABLE reviews. Why would they be hidden? I went to Dr. Stern to have four teeth with broken crowns extracted. I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Stern and his staff. Was treated very well from consultation until after the surgery by everyone. I would recommend this practice to anyone. read more

Second time we were here for a consult and both times it took over 2 HOURS of waiting. Do you like to wait? Then this is the place for you! I don't know if the office staff are just morons and booking way too many people in the same day or what the problem is, but this place literally takes forever for your appointment. Also, the music played over the sound system is not 'censored' at all, and you get to sit there and listen to all the lovely cursing and swearing that all the other radio stations bleep out. I have no idea what station they are listening to there, but you get to hear all the profanity if it's in the song you are listening to! The Doctor looked very stressed to say the least, I have no earthly idea why they book so many people at once! It is VERY unprofessional! Lastly, the office staff are quite snooty and came out to say the Doctor was running 30 minutes behind, um, no, he was running over 2 HOURS behind! If you have nothing better to do with your time, then head on over to this surgery center. read more

First off, bring your patients with you to the appointment because you will be waiting a long time. I had an appointment, arrived early and still waited over an hour to be called back. This appointment is the consultation appointment too. I have waited far less time for same day surgery appointments. Also, do not reschedule because when I rescheduled the consultation appointment, apparently the next available, according to the receptionist was three months later. So....I had to wait three months to be seen. I don't know if she was maybe upset that I had to reschedule the appointment because I heard her on the phone giving someone else a reschedule date about three weeks later. Wish I would have picked a different oral surgeon so far. Hopefully the experience once I get through the operating doors will be much better. read more

I had my wisdom teeth out a few weeks ago. In all it was a great experience. The staff was very caring and relieved my anxiety. The day of the surgery they brought me right back to get my IV started. I hate needles but the nurse told me jokes the whole time and it was over before I knew it. The surgery went well and I had very little pain or swelling after. Really if I can give him -5 below zero I think this what he deserves, I agree with everyone waiting time is always Very long even if you reached the clinic 30 m before like me for paperwork, my mom did bone graft and Dr Stern told her she has to do the implant after 3 month and not later then 5 month, she said he was harsh and not soft in his work my mom is rarely complain unfortunately she had diabetes and till she become controlled it toke 2 months, when I called the clinic after 4 months the nurs replayed to me after consulting the doctor as she said no it can be done even after 1year she give me appointment after 2 months, by the way I consulted another doctore and he said she start to loss the bone don't wait to 1 year the bone graft will be use less and you have to redo it again , the doctors came for 5 minis and he was accusing my mom that she hide her diabetes last time which was not true and not nice from him to say that, although I took appointments for implant they made me pay $ 2,000 cash before getting the appointment, and suddenly the nurse said no I have to change the appointment and if you don't like you can go to another doctor WTF, after all this I asked her 2 minuets with the doctore and she was arguing with me take another appointment, what after all this waiting and for 2 minuets I have to wait for another 2 months seriously, after my insisting and asking politely, she left for long time I don't know what she told him, he came very angry and in the way he said you are not nice to my staff, sorry asking for 2 minuets with you is not nice Woo's i didnt know he replied you where talking loud, no I wasn't !!!! I could hear you so you where not nice with the patient ????
