UNETHICAL PRACTICE!!!! LIARS!!! BEWARE OF CHARGES!!! DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BILL!!! Back in February I was having dental issues (cracked tooth that needed to be pulled ) all of my "in network" dentists were booked that day so I got referred to Oral Surgery South in Quincy. I called before I went because they were "out of network" and I explained my situation. I also explained that I didn't want to pay over $1000 to get a tooth pulled to please quote me a price, because if it was super expensive I would just wait a day and go to an "in network" dentist. The woman who I was speaking with assured me that getting a tooth pulled was about $200 for in network patients and a little over $400 for out of network patients. I once again went over how I didn't want to pay $1000 to have my tooth pulled but if it was only going to be $400 I would come in and do it. So we booked an appointment. I have no complaints about the dental work, The equipment itself is a little outdated (besides the fancy xray machine they charge an extra $75 without asking you for) but the work was mostly painless and efficient. The problem is when I went to pay my bill and leave, instead of it being a little over $400, the new total was $1,181.90 I admit I made a mistake by swiping my card when I got to the desk without looking at anything, my head was foggy and I just had a tooth pulled. When she told me the price I told her that's not what she told me and what we agreed to on the phone, she told me there was an additional $800 charge. Nobody told me about additional charges, nobody asked me about additional charges , nobody explained anything about additional charges to me , nobody said the words "EIGHT HUNDERED DOLLARS" at any time, until after i got the bill. I felt lied to and taken advantage of. My card was already swiped so even though I told her I disagreed with the charges and I didn't want to pay the extra $800, I would still pay the $400 and that I wasn't signing anything to authorize that additional $800. They still charged me $1,181.90 and refused to give me an itemized receipt, the receipt they gave me has the total on it and nothing else. I tried to dispute the $800 portion of the bill to my credit card company and they said because I swiped there is nothing they can do and I have to contact the merchant. The merchant will not refund the $800. I agree that I still owe the $400 to get the tooth pulled, but I don't want them to UNETHICALLY up- charge anyone else like they did to me. I was desperate and they knew it, then they used bait and switch on me with unethical tactics. I was a sale and a dollar sign and that woman at the desk was rude and she most likely made commission on putting me in that fancy x ray machine they charge you extra for and the extra $800 they tacked on at the end. Going to the dentist is hard enough, nobody should have to deal with this after the fact. So AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS !!! BEWARE OF UNETHICAL PRACTICE AND BAD CHARGES!!!! read more

A friend told me that there is a whole chapter of Moby Dick dedicated to describing how white the whale is. Apparently, he's right - chapter 42. I bring this up because I'm the type that will take something small and write a chapter's worth of text detailing it. While not 100% perfect, all things considered, I had an excellent experience with Dr. Gu and the office at Oral Surgery South. While I'm sure having wisdom teeth out is fairly routine for the office, for me, the word "surgery" is rather anxiety-inducing. Since I had five of the buggers, including one horizontal, it wasn't as simple as having your regular dentist grab the Novocain and a pair of pliers. A man can dream. In my initial consultation, a panoramic x-ray was taken, I was then shown a video about wisdom teeth extraction which covered the procedure and some FAQs. After the video, Dr. Gu and a couple nurses/medical assistants came in to review the x-rays and answer any questions. I sit here now saying that all my questions were answered, and,\ Dr. Gu stood by his medical opinions (I've had Dr.'s lead with "What do you want to do"). The anxiety made it feel a little rushed, but again, no question went unanswered. Finally, I was given instructions to prepare for surgery and got a text from my pharmacy that the medication was ready before I left the office. The surgery itself was thankfully uneventful. I don't remember a thing! I think the anesthesia given makes you forget everything, but you're technically still awake. The doctor apparently stopped in post-op, but I still under and didn't remember. Would have been nice if he also stopped when I had come to - but I realize this would be more for my psychological comfort than for medical need. For the post-op experience, I felt a little ill-prepared. On the flip side, the office was been beyond wonderful and patient with my calls and answering any post-op questions or concerns. No waiting half a day for a callback, but answers in a minute or so. First, loss of taste. I knew Novocain made you completely numb, but a loss of taste was rather scary. All it took was a call, I got to speak with Dr. Gu himself, and I was assured this was to be fully expected. Second, A medication which **might** be needed post-op wasn't sent to the pharmacy the day of the surgery as I was told in the consultation. Thankfully I didn't end up needing it at all, and I'm sure all it would have taken was a call to the office. Still - if it is standard practice and I had needed it late that night, it would have been nice knowing when to expect it. Then there were jelly clots. These are exactly as 'delightful' as they sound, and I won't go into detail in case some of you all are queasy. During the consultation, I would have liked to know these are a possibility and how to prevent or combat them. Still, I have to give the office massive props. When I called with this problem, not knowing what it was, and thinking my gums had swollen over my teeth, they got me in that morning. Dr. Gu took a look to make sure everything was okay and answered a couple other small concerns I had. He did offer me to come in a couple weeks to laser off extra/slightly swollen gum tissue, but this ended up going away on its own, and no lasering was needed. About a month after the surgery, I found I was no longer thinking about the missing teeth. Everything had more or less returned to normal. While the bone grows in, a tiny bit of food seems to have a tendency to pause in the empty space, but this is minor and increasingly rare. read more

Dr. Lincoln is the type of doctor that everyone looks for but rarely finds. He is caring, well educated, and has one goal in mind...your care and comfort while doing the best surgical work. He (not a staff member) follows up the next day with a phone call to make sure that you are OK. Dr. Lincoln and his staff have done numerous extractions and implants for me. This last visit was to clear up a bone infection. Dr. Lincoln does what we all wish our doctors do. He mixes caring and expertise to a very high level and the patient is the lucky recipient of it. DO NOT COME TO ORAL SURGERY SOUTH at any location!! The dentist has very poor communication and they will screw you over!! Before my procedure I called my insurance and the dentist several times to confirm that i will only be paying 266$. On the day of the procedure I paid 266$ and then OVER a month later I was sent another bill for 360$. After everyone confirmed that it would only be one bill. If they don't screw you over financially you might get an infection! (I got both, yay!) Previous to this procedure I had one wisdom tooth extracted as an emergency procedure due to it being impacted AND infected. I never went for a follow up due to it being peak pandemic and i was totally fine and healed very fast and well. BUT at this office I had two remaining wisdom teeth removed. One was severely impacted (which i didn't even know till after i went home from the procedure and was experiencing excruciating pain and called the office and asked about it.) A couple weeks went by and it got infected. I went back to the office just for them to prescribe the same antibiotic (they should change the brand since it didn't work the first time). The second round was not effective so I went back in and the dentist reopened the hole, drained it out and finally gave a new round of antibiotics. This still did not work and I proceeded to go to urgent care for my FOURTH round of antibiotic. I had Dr. Rubiez for my procedure and his communication lacked tremendously, for one of my after care appointments I saw Dr. Cottrell and he was amazing, he answered my questions thoughtfully, was well spoken and just automatically made you feel better about the situation. I asked to get switched to him and the office said no. If you end up coming here I highly recommend Dr. Cottrell and I highly recommend you keep a budget that is twice as much as they tell you it will be. Also this was 4 months ago and I'm finally healing properly and still dealing with their billing issue, soo good luck if you go here. read more

Dr. Cataudella is a well seasoned oral surgeon with the training and experience to thoroughly and completely understand and ultimately resolve just about any issue, from wisdom teeth extraction to tooth and bone infections and anything in between. He is immensely confident, assuring and easy to speak to. He is patient and careful and meticulously thorough without being excessive (and charging the patient for excess). A doctor you can TRUST. He goes above and beyond the call of duty. He has gone out of his way to assist me after hours and during weekends when I've been in pain, on more than one occasion. He CARES. I cannot recommend him and his incredible staff (technicians, secretaries) enough. He has one secretary/scheduling attendant named Debbie who is beyond helpful. She never fails to recognize the severity of the patients situation. I'm immensely impressed with her high standard of patient care and customer service. You must go here if you want your oral surgery experience to be as seamless as possible! Also, I've been to all three facilities (Norwell, Quincy and Plymouth) and all three are immaculately kept. I was referred to Dr. Cataudella by my dentist and found out that he is the best oral surgeon I've ever seen. I've had a few teeth pulled and multiple implants put in by him. He is a talented surgeon who knows exactly what he is doing. He explains things and makes sure I am never in any pain. He is very attentive to making sure I am ok during surgery. He is also a very nice customer friendly person who doesn't treat you like a number, or just another body. He genuinely cares about you when you are there. They weren't upfront about not accepting my dental insurance. They repeatedly evaded questions about it and said that they would put the consultation on my health insurance, which makes no sense, because under my dental insurance my office visits are free. Then they sent me an estimate of how much my wisdom teeth extraction would cost: over a thousand dollars. Uhhh, yeahhhhh, like I'm honestly going to pay that much money out of pocket when I have GOOD dental coverage that's accepted elsewhere. Pass. Shady, shady place. I second the "shady" assessment of the previous review. My son was anxious about having teeth pulled so they refused the procedure and insisted on performing it in a hospital setting. Big money and anesthesia for baby teeth? No thank you. We walked out of the office and they refunded my money, but then billed my insurance company for an evaluation interrupting his maintenance coverage. They also operate as a botox office and sell premium skincare. I prefer my surgeons perform surgery, not spa services. read more

Went in for wisdom tooth removal, after having a really scary consultation elsewhere. The doctor was upfront and honest. I was awake the whole time. No pain. I felt like I could of went to work the next day. Minor swelling thats to be expected. Only needed pain medication for two days. Healing went well. :) read more

Got a consult here for my wisdom teeth with Dr. Leibovici and was told that I needed all 4 taken out. The day before the surgery I was extremely nervous, as I had never been put under general anesthesia before and I have heard horror stories about wisdom teeth removals in general. The procedure took all but 10 minutes with 3 people working on me-- even the person accompanying me was shocked at how short it was! I woke up without any problems aside from a minor pain where one of the teeth was taken out, a numb bottom lip and the usual bleeding (the latter two are to be expected). The bleeding stopped in a matter of 12 hours and I was able to eat semi-solid foods the same day. Compared to my friends, I would say I had a really great experience and I would highly recommend Dr. Leibovici! read more
