Mr. Sellars is the best! I've been taking classes on and off (on now) for the last 15 years and he has been consistently great. So kind and patient, and clearly loves teaching. He will give attention to all his students but especially those who have good attendance and a desire to improve. Per class it's $20, however they a discount if you pay for 1/2/3 (etc) classes a week which comes out to about $16 a class. read more

I have been dancing at Orange County Dance Center for 24 years (starting when I was 5). It was my second home for most of my life, and still is. I took tap, jazz and ballet from wonderful teachers who are still my friends. My husband was a professional ballet dancer at the studio. At 29 years old, I'm still taking class in the advanced tap group, and my 12-year-old step-sister has started taking ballet. The ballet program is the best in Orange County, hands down. Terri and Anthony Sellars, the owners of the studio, are former professional dancers. They teach proper technique, which is evidenced by the studio's many awards and trophies from competitions, and have turned out many professional ballerinas over the years, including their son, Chris Sellars, who is a principal dancer at Ballet West. I don't know why anyone would choose any other studio besides OCDC, especially for ballet. When I have kids, they will grow up there just like my husband and I, and all of our siblings, did. read more

My daughter has been attending OCDC for over 3 years now, and she loves the instructors and the friends she has made. The dance studio is full of light, and clean. The parking is tight and a bit difficult to get in and out especially if you arrive exactly on time for either drop off or pick up. Best to arrive 5 minutes early for drop off. Both the Nutcracker and June shows are very well choreographed ! My family and friends always enjoy the performances! read more

We have been attending OCDC for just over a year. We have tried other studios, but OCDC is the best we've found. This studio is accepting and supportive. I love that they are not as strict as other studios on leotard color and that the girls can wear a skirt if they want to. Dancing should be fun and not stressful! This studio has given us that experience. We are currently in the middle of Nutcracker performances, and my daughter keeps saying how much fun she is having -- which makes me so happy. Her classmates are kind and the older dancers encourage the younger ones. She has gone from taking one beginning class to taking several classes during the week. Her two instructors, Mr. Sellars and Ms. Sienna are wonderful, skilled educators who have encouraged her to work hard while also making her feel welcome and successful. I watched the Nutcracker at this studio just yesterday. In the first scene, there was barely any ballet and the acting was horrible! Battle was not traditional and hard to follow, especially when the Rat King gets stabbed. He literally takes the sword out, shrugs, and puts it back in! Also they were squeaking. Ballet is music and dance! Not horrible sound effects. In almost all the scenes there was too much going on. When you try to focus on one dancer it's really hard to follow because then they leave and all the other dancers are coming and going and you aren't sure where to put your attention. There was zero expression in the dances. Overall it did not look like it was throughly cleaned out and I do not recommend. read more

If you have a young daughter who is sensitive don't send her here. Horrible class management by instructor Tiana. To make a 3 year old cry and not want to dance is horrible. Having such poor management that kids run all over not listening is a reflection on teaching and how the class is not engaging. To expect a 3 year olds to wait in line on a bar while you correct 14 kids feet and expect them to stand still is not the kind of class I will send my child back to. While I respect the owner Terry for sticking up for the teacher it astounds me that she cares nothing for helping to make a 3 year old love dance and is ok with kids crying and making kids cry. She even admitted that she makes kids cry. This is a dance school that is strict for standing still not for having fun which is what dance should be. read more

My daughters have been coming to OCDC for five years now and they love it!! They started out in the combo class and have now progressed into the performing groups and pre pointe. The instructors her are so amazingly talented and kind and the owners are always available and are even still teaching there full time. I cannot say enough about how wonderful the OCDC family is and how so grateful we are to become a part of it!! They put on a wonderful Nutcracker every year that all kids can be part of as well as two other shows and a June recital. Not to mention their wonderful performing groups that attend local competitions. It's a great place to be... whether you have a little one or are an adult dancer.... there is something for everyone!! read more

After four years we decided to leave. I felt, (since my child wasn't apart of a group of girls all taking the same class together or had immense talent) that she was just considered a monthly tuition and nothing more. When I voiced concerns, the owner named off six girls who were all 'more important' than my child; which was just a strange answer to my question about classes. Terri also proceeded to yell at me, belittled me and frankly was quite a bully. Which makes me wonder how children are treated. When I've emailed the owner, she won't respond and will say 'it went to spam' but if it's about a payment- those seem to get through and a response (Huh). Sadly, we love Ms.Stacy and are sad to leave, but we need a studio who cares about dancers, even mediocre dancers who want to get better. -Maybe someday they will care about the regular dancers and offer skills classes or ANY type of help for parents with children who love to dance. Treating people and children with professionalism and kindness at the very least. For now we will go to another studio as there are many Great studios in OC. No child should feel insignificant and unimportant, a dance studio should be fun and help build confidence in children. Good Luck at OCDC your going to need it (eek). read more

They just don't get it! My 5 year old daughter has been going here for 2 years and we will be searching for a new studio. I have never felt like a customer of OCDC just a parent. The instructors are nice but without the help of other more experienced parents I would have left the first month. The organization is poor and Since they have moved into the new location it's even worse; the parking is horrendous the studio they have my kid in three nights a week has no way of viewing or watching the instruction, There is no lounge to hang out in. parents are just expected to stand outside and wait for an hour each class then get into your car and leave(which is a challenge). Their customers are us parents, not our kids. Make us feel welcomed and comfortable show me my kid in training and let me take pictures. I, as the customer paying for the education of my child want to see my hard earned money put to use. Recitals that don't allow me to video my child don't cut it. My daughter attends an evening toddler ballet class and loves it. The instructor, Tiana is really friendly and very attentive to each child. Classes are kept clean and ballet dance routines are age appropriate, using both ballet and tap techniques that challenge its little dancers. I love this studio, we have been to two other studios in Huntington Beach and I see more variety in techniques used here, then the two others places we have been to combined. Our home away from home.... My daughter has not only learned how to dance from the best, she has learned perseverance, the importance of a strong work ethic and how to handle rejection gracefully. All of these things will carry her through school and career as she gets older. Her teachers push her, but provide a safe environment for her to take risks. I've been coming to this dance studio off and on since I was 3 years old. Now that I'm an adult my love of dance has not faded so I continue taking ballet from Mr. Sellars for recreation and the great workout it gives me. Both Mr and Mrs Sellars are like family to me and they are the most incredible ballet instructors you can find. So many students have graduated and gone on to working in prestigious ballet companies from here. I'm so fortunate that they offer late ballet classes for adults as well. You don't find that at a lot of studios. Also my sisters have gone through their program and have been extremely pleased as well. Whenever I have children they will come here. OCDC is truly the best. Oh and btw they offer so much more than ballet. Stacey who teaches jazz here is amazing as well with years of experience and all ages welcome. read more

I started my serious training here many years ago. I cannot speak highly enough about the instructors. Every dancer gets an opportunity to perform, and the instructors give one-on-one attention. Many students at this studio have gone on to have professional careers in dance. Anthony and Terri give 100% to each student, and will make every effort for your dancer to achieve his/ her dreams in dance. My daughter danced at OCDC from the age of 3 through 18. She literally grew up there!! The owners and Directors, Anthony and Terri Sellars, will Never allow dances that are not age appropriate. As a parent I always appreciated that. You will never see your young child in skimpy costumes! OCDC is more of a technique based studio. They will go to a couple of competitions per year but they are not on a 'Competition Circuit" like so many other studios, thank goodness!! The Nutcracker is a performance each parent and dancer looks forward to every year. Christmas would not be the same without it! The Spring and Fall shows are always very well choreographed. Terri and Anthony put everything into this studio and it shows when 15 years or so after they graduate, older students are still watching performances and some even attending the adult ballet classes. My daughter has not only made lifelong friends at this studio but has excelled as a dancer and occasionally still teaches some ballet. I would recommend OCDC to everyone! read more

My daughter has been dancing at OCDC for years now. I have tried other studios and nothing compares to this studio. The front staff is very inviting and knowledgeable. The instructors are professional, caring, and very talented. This place is like my daughter's second home. I couldn't ask for a better place to teach my child how to dance, resect adults, respect her fellow dancers(young and old). We are here 5-6 days a week and we know each instructor here and love them all! OCDC offers students of all levels and temperaments the opportunity to learn to dance - whether it is for fun, exercise or a career in dance. I am an adult who takes 3 ballet classes a week there and an occasional jazz class, and my daughters take 12 classes between them. Though there are some classes that are more fun than others for them, they understand the benefit to having stricter teachers who emphasize technique, those who remind you that dance is about moving to music and those in between - at OCDC, you get them all. We have been taking classes at OCDC for the past 7 months and have found it to be wonderful. We sampled classes at three studios in our area before choosing OCDC. I specifically wanted a traditional studio that upholds an appropriate environment for young girls. The owners are warm and very professional. The instruction has been wonderful and my children love it. OCDC has been extremely accomodating for us to try new classes and switch our schedule. They have been happy to loan us dance shoes prior to investing the money when we are sampling a class. The recent show the studio put on was top notch-- a totally professional production. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as spectators as did my children as participants. I am thrilled with OCDC and think the owners are doing a fantastic job of running the business. My only complaint is the parking but that is a minor issue. read more

Respectfully, I must differ in opinion with some of the other reviews here. My children have been attending dance classes here for 3 years. First at the old location and now at the new location. The parking is not great in this new building but there are ways around it including arriving a few minutes early or parking in the shopping center right next door. I take my girls to a dance studio to learn dance and they have had great instruction. And as one reviewer already stated, the people here are so warm and friendly. The teachers and staff are always smiling and welcoming and the students and parents are also very nice and welcoming. My children had taken dance at Huntington Academy of dance for 2 years prior to coming to this studio and it was a horrendous experience. The staff, most of the teachers as well as the parents and studios were downright mean. They were unkind to any newcomers and some of the staff would snap at parents as they were asking questions or paying the bill. Parents would state that they did not want to approach anyone in the studio. I have never felt this at ocdc. No matter how many times I ask questions, I am always encouraged. I have never seen anyone that works here act in a rude or snobby manner to the children or the parents. I find the dancers are amazing and I personally know several students who danced at the studio for 14 or 15 years and are still dancing in their ivy league institutions. My children are there to appreciate dance and have fun but there are several students who have gone very far with the instruction at the studio. I cannot recommend this studio more highly. read more

This place is the most disorganized establishment I have ever witnessed. We have a shared custody situation with our child and her Father lives in San Diego, therefore we had to obtain his permission to enroll our daughter as the recitals fell on Father's Day weekend. The dance studio's first information stated that there would be one recital on that weekend. They then changed that to three recitals - Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Now, her Father has called into the studio and they have informed him there are two recitals on Saturday, and one on Sunday and Monday. The dance studio's complete lack of organization has led to fights with the Father over our daughter attending the recitals. Not only that, but the parking is atrocious. Good luck getting into their parking lot when trying to pick up or drop off your child. The better move is to park in the supermarket next door and walk your child through the death trap of the dance studio's parking lot into the class. Furthermore, we will be cancelling our daughter from the ballet classes and demanding a refund. I have never dealt with such a disorganized and non-customer oriented establishment. Find somewhere else to send your children!! read more

So far so good for our family at OCDC. My two young daughters ( 7 & 3 yrs old) were originally at a studio in the valley. When we moved to Huntington Beach we started them at Murdy just to get them aquanted to the area and people. The instructor there was from the Huntington Academy and suggested that they enroll at that studio. We found that all of the people were nice but it seemed like my girls were not progressing at a steady pace. My older daughter would stand around a lot waiting for the instructor to teach students that had a specific problem. We went to a recital there and we were not allowed to video it. We bought the videos that the studio sold that were recorded by "professionals" and my daughters feet were cut off during most of the performance. My older daughters instructor did not show up for the recital. It was so bad that a girl in my daughters class began to cry because she was never properly taught the dance. The recital was a disaster ,very unorganized. We recieved a call from the studio indicating that my oldest should move up to a more advanced class but after the recital we decided take our daughters to OCDC. The girls have been there for a few months and already learned a tremendous amount. I am very impressed with their instruction and the staff is very friendly. read more
