This review is for pinball fans that are new to buying games. Please spend a few minutes researching the game you want before buying it from Orange County Pinballs. I've been collecting games for over 20 years and it is well known amongst avid pinball enthusiasts that this dealer's prices are exorbitantly higher than true market value, and I am talking many thousands of dollars higher. They will tell you this is because their quality is better than anyone else, but the truth is they buy a lot of their used games back from home users just like you and then mark the prices way way up. I promise you they sincerely hope you don't do any research, because within a few minutes you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. For example I myself was looking for one game in particular, I found one on the OC Pinballs website that was listed $6000 higher than every other one I was looking at. I ended up buying this game from someone else, the machine had less than 300 plays on it, it was basically brand new and I paid $6000 less than OC Pinball's price. If I didn't know any better I would have thought....well the OC Pinball price must be the going rate for this game. But fortunately I do a lot of research before buying any game so I knew OC's price was ridiculous, which is the case for most things on their website. Their NIB (New In Box) games are slightly closer to market value than their used machines, but even those prices are too high. For example....the brand new Toy Story 4 game from Jersey Jack Pinball, OC Pinball has the Limited Edition listed at $13,300 and the Collector's Edition listed at $19,000. There are MANY extremely reputable pinball dealers throughout the US that are currently selling the Limited Edition for $12,000 and the Collector's Edition for $15,000. And that is because $12,000 and $15,000 are the MSRP prices. These are brand new never opened games, so there is no reason for OC Pinballs to price them so much higher than every other dealer in the US other than greed. OC Pinballs does not have "better quality" brand new Toy Story games than everyone else. If you are considering purchasing a game from this dealer please first consider consulting a website called Pinside. It's an invaluable resource for information about pinball machines. At the top of the homepage you can click on "MACHINES" and type in the name of the game you are interested in. This will bring up a ton of information about that specific game, including current market values if you scroll down a little. Also the forum users there are very willing to give advice on pricing and whether something is a good or bad deal. If you ask a question on the forums you will have multiple answers within minutes. I've been using the website for many years, it is full of friendly and knowledgeable people who only want to help and promote this awesome hobby. I have no doubt that buying a game from Orange County Pinballs is a smooth and pleasant experience, that is not what this review is about. I have nothing personal against OC Pinballs, I just truly hate the thought of a fellow pinball lover spending many many thousands more than they need to. I had purchased a Cirqus Voltaire pin from OCP, unfortunately the Ring Master was shipped in the upright position and the spring the head is attached to gnawed through the playfield, to the point there was saw dust. Also the battery pack wasn't mounted correctly, came loose, and I had to solder it back. I still gave Evan a positive rating on Ebay. Besides, I had used a new card from TD Ameritrade, and it seems the limit is $5,000, which I had no idea until then....alas it makes sense to a degree since they aren't technically a bank...thus I needed a few days to wire the money to another bank. To be fair I doubt an $11,000 machine was going to close within that week by anyone else. Here is where it gets really ugly. I wrote the first pin off as an (albeit amateur) mistake by OCP... And bought a Whitewater. Unboxing I found that one leg bolt plate was completely missing. Fortunately I had some nuts that were the right size for the leg bolts. Under 5 games in I noticed the flippers were weak, most notably on the 2 right flippers to the point they would stick in the upright position....this with the casters all the way down, so there is barely an angle to the machine at all. Uploaded is a picture of one of the coil sleeves, they were all just as bad....crusted with crud and scratched up. The ball would also get stuck in the whirlpool area and not go into the tunnel....this was because the screw was too long and the whole tunnel was free floating/not pinned down. The ball would actually rest on the walls of the tunnel it was so far out of alignment. Keep in mind the screw was tight, just completely incorrect length, so it had a wide radius of movement. At this point I created a review on Ebay (being Evan will spam you more than once if you don't leave one)...and left a *NEUTRAL* review stating "Nice refurb, 3 weak coils, and 2 bad sleeves". *I have verified with Ebay that Evan filed a complaint against the review above* About 3 days after it was put up, it disappeared. This is against the law (more on that later). *** Below was here before he responded, in saying I confidently forgot he wanted to do a refund. My hunch he didn't want me to inspect the machine further, which is why he took such odd, drastic measures to send the whole 300 lbs machine back. Rewind the day I put up the review....I then get an Email from Evan stating he will take the whole machine back and eat the shipping. I have about 20 machines at this point and told him "that's like throwing the bathwater out with the baby". I know how to fix machines to a degree, so I don't need a repair person, much less with COVID these days. What was shipped, was not as promised by the copy/paste job in the description. There was much more than one defective part on this machine, much less the missing part. My review was actually being kind. In the end I've filed a case against Orange County Pinball/Evan for violating the Consumer Review Fairness Act. You'll notice a gentleman on here wrote a bad review and Evan is quick to say " The many positive reviews and hundreds of satisfied customers we have didn't happen by not honoring our word or not going the extra mile for each and every client." I can vouch that means nothing being he will delete reviews. The guy is a complete conniver. I now have 20 pins, and Orange County Pinball has BY FAR been the absolute worst. He may be facing a fine, or a federal court order in the end....you can do better my friends....there are amazing distributors and re-sellers out there. This isn't one. -Edit on his response. As stated, I can repair it myself. He's going on the assumption whatever he would have done would have turned my opinion to a positive review. It is everyone's right, protected by law to leave whatever review you seem fit to any establishment online. I mentioned above on my first posting he offered to me a return the whole machine...which would have been huge inconvenience for the customer, I wanted the machine that's why I bought it, and was my decision to repair it. Again...as per delivery the machine was unsatisfactory. I guess wording it different that he offered a FULL ONE HUNDRED PERCENT REFUND makes him feel better somehow. Was sent missing a major part, and defective gear. No matter if I had a repairman come out etc...I still would have left a neutral review, which was illegally deleted....this is not harassment, it is following up to a deleted review which was my right. As per his response, intelligent people can see the conniving, if you read my abridged tale. Somewhat predicted the "I did what I could". He did indeed get a very honest basic review deleted. Notice how he did not respond to this. Poor guy. He works so hard and can't get away with false advertising, breaking a federal act...can't get away clean with deleted reviews he doesn't like...and sending out a machine that was defective in areas. I called Evan because our Hook pinball machine had a malfunction with the kickbacks. He was very honest and let me know he could come out, but to make sure we check all the fuses first. I have no experience with pinball machines, and didn't know where to look, and he was kind of enough to assist over text as I sent him photos of the inside of the machine. After careful inspection based on Evan's guidance, we were able to find the faulty fuse and replaced it, and the machine started working again with no issues. I'm writing this review to express my disappointment with the customer service, communication, and shady price markups of Orange County Pinball. I called Orange County Pinball July 16, 2021 and spoke with Evan (the owner). I confirmed his website price of, "$7699 shipped nationwide with free curbside delivery." He had one Jurassic Park Premium ordered from Stern confirmed for this December 2021 factory shipment. He further stated the machine was still available for purchase and could be secured with a $1000 PayPal deposit. I was excited and made the required deposit immediately after ending our call. On Friday, 10-8-21, I sent an email to Evan asking for a status update and when he was expecting the remaining balance of $6699. He replied on 10-10-21 to my email with disappointing news. Specifically, he not only wasn't getting the machine in December as promised, but I now had to pay his new online pricing of $9,399 for the same machine I ordered in July 2021!!!! I called Evan immediately and questioned him about the huge price markup. He said, "My order was pushed back to 2022 shipment and Stern Pinballs pricing is going up as of the 1stof the year." However, I suspect he sold it at a higher price with this pinball being in such high demand. Not only was Evan unsympathetic to the situation of expecting this as a family Christmas gift, but I would now have to pay this unreasonable increase of $1700 more for the same pinball model, payment method, and shipping as the day I placed my order this past July. The phone call did not go well and nothing was offered on Orange County Pinball's end to rectify this totally unexpected situation. It would have been reasonable for Evan to say, "Hey, I know this isn't my company's norm and Stern put us in a bad situation. However, I am willing to accept a lower profit on the delayed unit and keep you as a long term future customer." NOPE, no such thing, just him replying, "I will cancel your order and credit you back your deposit." Last words on the call were me informing him that this is shady business and makes him look like a bad owner. He hung up on me and immediately refunded the $1000 deposit I made three months prior. I'm sure he will rebuttal this review and push ALL the blame on the manufacturer. However, think about the facts above and wonder, if his version had any truth to it, why didn't he make zero effort to make this right. I gave OCP two opportunities to earn my business. Sadly, you'd be hard pressed to find worse customer service in the pinball industry. Purchased 2 machines through OCP, the first arrived damaged, the second was flipped upside down by their staff before it even made it onto the delivery truck. When dealing with high value machines, attention to detail is key. I had hoped that an appearingly large, established distributor would have taken the proper steps to pack the machines properly but they failed to do so on both occasions. - Machine 1 : a.) No padding whatsoever between the backbox and side rails before being strapped to itself for shipment. This resulted in deep scratches all along the top of the backbox and side rails. b.) No leg protection resulting in chunks of the leg missing upon arrival. - Machine 2: a.) Flipped completely upside down pre-shipment due to what looks like someone trying to move it with a forklift, with the legs attached. I understand that accidents happen, which is why I didn't even contact OCP due to the dings on machine #1 (though some of them were due to negligence in not providing appropriate packing). My greater frustration was with machine #2. Having reached out earlier in the day specifically to mention the damage of machine #1 and to ensure extra care was given to machine #2, I didn't even get as much as an apology for the first bad packing job, just an assurance that this one would be taken care of. Hours later I receive the pics attached, showing my machine flipped upside down. OCP did not apologize, they only offered to have the machine repaired and sent back out (with no timeline for repair, no discount, and no extended warranty) or refund my money. Given my experience thus far and the major damage to the machine, I opted for refund which was provided. The machine in the pics was priced in the same range as a brand new car in 1990. I can't imagine wiring my local Ford dealer total payment for a vehicle only to receive pics of it flipped upside down by a factory employee with no accompanying apology, discount or timeline for replacement.
