This isn't a dog park. It's like they fenced in an uneven gravel area and said ok good enough.

What a mass of beautiful greenery. Any outdoor sport you want to practice, this is the park to do…read moreso. Community Parks create memories for birthdays, holding hands, kickball, learning to ride the bike and sometimes relaxing under the sun. By the way this is a good park to learn to roller skate. Montgomery Waller is surrounded by homes, near schools, the community library, senior housing and actual vibrant neighborhoods. It is quite a beautiful layout of this park. From a couple of baseball fields, full on outdoor basketball courts, paved walkways and walking trails, and play areas. It's a lot of land. If you can't social distance here, then there's a problema. As you walk the unmarked course around the park you may see cheerleaders practicing, litte league baseball, Pop Warner football, AYSO soccer, father's pushing baby carriages, celebration of birthdays and dog walkers. I really enjoy how this park is elderly friendly and safe. The paved walkways is very clean and flat and no cracks, crevices or unleveled ground. There are several manageable inclines and declines. If I was too start a walking or running club I would train at this park. In fact, I see groups doing yoga, tai-chi and cartwheels. It's biiiig. There are two areas of play structures that will likely become boring after a couple of times because expansion needs to happen. The rec center where classes are offered is atop the hill and classes are usually free. I saw Zumba having a blast. Also, there are dog poop bag boxes which offer free bags. Don't let your dog poop on the paved clean walkway. The cons to this park are a few: Limited toilets. I saw one outhouse, and two single toilets in this big park. I guess because this neighborhood is 90% diverse, perhaps they don't use toilets. I guess. Cause this is ignorant for this space to not have real toilets around the entire Park area. The other con, is the walkway should be marked with mileage markers. Parking is available in the lots or around the park. I come here once a week and enjoy it a lot. It is mostly an unshaded park from morning to evening. It's not impossible to find shade but it is a task. Bring your umbrella and/or canopy. You will thank me later. Absolutely, I would recommend this park if you are near the area. Would I make a special trip? Ummm, probably because it is a best kept secret; many people don't know it exists. If you're a trainer or have an exercise class or meet up outdoor meditation, this is a perfect place to do it.

They get their playground fix and I get my fresh air and the park is just down the street from where I live. I also get to see beautiful sun setting skies. Equipments are safe, both at the older age kids area and toddler. Roomy, clean and "cushioned" ground. Safe. Side note: if you're not paying attention to your child, he/she can get "hit" by the zip line that's moving through. I had witnessed a 4yr old hit by one. He wasn't paying attention as he ran across...nor were his parents. I don't like the older kids (teenagers) and adults utilizing the playground equipment (aka hoggers) and play space. I see adults sitting on equipment hangout out while "watching" their child(ren) and I've seen others using the equipment (ie swings, zip line, see-saw, twirling chairs, etc). It ridiculous and there are metal signs posted indicating 12 years and older on playground equipment are not allowed. There are cemented seats that surround the play area and there are benches too. Not sure why adults are using the equipment as seats. Bring your own folding chair if you need to sit down. The entire park still needs work done. The grass area that's used by AYSO soccer teams, the parking lot being too small and this is just to name a few obvious items. I guess it's work in progress. Recommend playground

I love this rec center! The bathrooms are always clean and it's so nice that the new park is huge!…read moreThere's even an outdoor gym behind the rec. Another great reason why I love this community is that all the people in the office are great! They care for the community and they're always looking out for the kiddos. I've seen them give lunches and snacks to kids (free) so in case anyone needs something to eat, please stop by their office bc they do care and they offer a free nutritious snack or lunch. Very sweet staff, I will always recommend!

That was the nearby and much bigger Border Field State Park, whose sogginess changed our plans. That was all right, and I've given cryptic clues in my Barrio Logan-train-station review. It had to do with shrimp and warm Tecate, but it's not that kind of story. I didn't drink, and I managed to maintain my vegetarianness despite the difficulty of doing so. I've cracked under much milder conditions, which makes me want to affirm--although I won't--that pressure brings out the best in me. When I was reading at Cal, I attended a solidarity strike. It had absolutely nothing to do with Larsen Field, actually, but one of the organizers (?) reminded me a lot of one of the organizers on that bus in Tijuana. I wondered whether it was the same strong woman, but then I remembered that she (the one on the bus in Tijuana) was a nurse, and nurses didn't organize non-nurse UC workers, did they? Or maybe they did. I ate a burrito at some point. The field is well maintained, and that surprised me. I wanted to play Little League here. Or do more than pee in the community center, which was decorated nicely, like it was done by a second-grade teacher. Kids will run where they please. And they do. The river that runs near here is disappointing, but it reminds me of home. Home isn't Mexico. It's Whittier. But anyone who knows where Whittier Boulevard is might associate that home with Mexico (except for the Central Americans), and to be perfectly honest, I understand that. Better than I understand the Mission.
