I was very skeptical as I don't gravitate towards group fitness, and much prefer to be alone stuff my headphones in and do my own thing. But, I also don't like working out and I was only doing that once a month. My husband had me try OTF, and after 2 classes I am hooked. Plainly for the fact that you can burn so much calories in just 30 min - hour and you don't have to think about your workout for the rest of the day. It's also a great start to the day as I'm a late riser and self-employed so this has given me a lot more structure in my day and actually makes me feel energized because, their heart rate monitors let me know when I'm in the right zone or pushing too hard or not enough which I also struggle with a lot. My favorite coaches are of course Coach Has, and Coach Taylor, however Coach Taylor I don't believe is at the Arcadia location often. I'm also a recluse by nature I'd like to add, and while people are genuinely nice and want to help you out when you're new at these locations, I love that they respect that I just want to follow the program at my own pace and stay in my corner. This is not "just another gym". Oh no. What is Orange Theory? This is a challenge to stay in the ORANGE zone for at least 12 minutes of the 55 minute workout so that you continue to burn calories for 24 hours. Did someone say challenge? Yes. And the great part is you aren't competing against anyone else just yourself. I call it the "construction zone". Orange means work and if I'm in the orange I am working on myself. I have been attending this OTF for two years now, and I have to honestly say that it is my home. I so appreciate the way that Becca runs this studio- she is also a fantastic coach. Elle their head coach is fun, hard working, and so inspirational. I also love Katelyn- she is a newer coach but truly one of the best. Tracy is amazing as well- she's like the studio mama and I love taking her classes. I've been on a health and wellness journey and OTF Arcadia has played a massive role in my overall fitness level and weight loss. I've taken two classes at Orangetheory and while I am a fan, I don't know that I'll be purchasing a membership anytime soon. The pros: *You're pretty much guaranteed a solid workout each visit *I love that you can see where your heartrate is at during the class and adjust your intensity level accordingly. *The instructors I had were motivational and the workouts were a good combo of cardio and strength training. *Great location! The cons: *Classes book up well in advance, so it's tough if you want to sign up for one a few hours or even days ahead of time. *The classes are back-to-back, which doesn't allow much time to get there early to warm-up or stay late to cool-down. *You go from a hard core all out push to literally sitting on the floor and stretching within a few minutes. I find I need a bit more time to cool down. *The classes are packed, so you don't get much individual attention. *The front desk people were friendly the first visit, but not the second. *Classes are expensive, so I cannot justify purchasing a package in addition to my Village membership. All of that being said, if you are looking for a full body workout and to be in and out in an hour, this could be just the workout for you. And one last tip: bring a towel... you'll likely break a great sweat. Enjoy! read more

While I did have a terrible customer service experience with this location, the district manager made me realize that the overall organization truly does care about their customers. I came to OTF after a few friends recommended the location in Scottsdale, but I decided to try this Arcadia location. I walked in to Rachel who seemed sweet, but I was told I was going to be charged for my first class, which I thought was strange. I was hoping I wasn't going to be taken advantage, so I agreed. She didn't show me around neither did she tell me where to put my phone and keys. I brought all my items in to class because I wasn't told where to put my items. I ran with my phone in my pocket and it dropped shattering the corner of my screen. I wasn't frustrated but why didn't she tell me where to put my items? I wasn't told the rules of the class and the instructor had to inform me I wasn't suppose to use my phone, I didn't know about this. The class was an okay experience, but Rachel was the worst front desk person I had experience at a fitness center. Not only am I reluctant to sign up, but this location and Rachel is giving OTF a bad name. I feel bad for the franchise. I would hope that they improve their service, because I think the fitness experience is worth it. However, I won't be back at the Arcadia location because of Rachel. She was very rude when I left the location. I guess this is what it's like when employees are trying to jeopardize their bosses business. I feel bad for the owner. I work in customer service and have never experience something so unacceptable. I'm going to be signing up at the Scottsdale location which I know is owned by a more suitable owner with better service and people skills. I was prepared to sign up after class for a premium membership which is $159 per month, but I guess Rachel doesn't my money is worth the Arcadia location. read more

I am an OTF member and my home base gym is in California. I travel for work and ended up at OTF Arcadia, and I absolutely love this facility vibe! I must say, I love every bit it. Don't tell my home gym, but I liked this location better. I've visited three locations thus far and OTF Arcadia is by far my favorite. I got two workouts in during Mayham Week, one with Austin who had great energy and seems to know all of his clients. I think the other Coach was Brandon, sorry buddy, I may have gotten your name wrong. But he did great too! Love his energy and encouraging words throughout the workout. I've been a member of this particular orange theory fitness for about A year and a half. when I first started it was super diverse they have more coaches so you have more coaches to choose from. But now there's only three coaches to choose from which they are all great but I would One extra coach to give you more options. Thinking about Orangetheory Fitness? Brace yourself: this is NOT for the weak of heart, literally or metaphorically. I don't know if all the workouts are the same here. The one I did was an hour long and felt somewhere between the 4th and 6th level of hell. Probably the coolest feature of the class is the strap-on. Before you get too excited, this is a monitor band that you strap just beneath your chest that tracks heart-rate and calories burned, and is connected to software that spits out charts and graphs and percentages and stuff. For 30 minutes you do intervals on the treadmill, and for another 30 you'll be doing circuit training, which consists of calisthenics and some high-rep, low-weight lifts. This is group exercise. If you're lazy or lack the ability to push yourself, or if you find yourself saying things like "I really need personal attention to get a good workout," your workout here will probably be adequate but not extraordinary. If you are a run-of-the-mill jogger type, this is going to be a big step up in intensity. OTF caters more to sadomasochistic self-flagellating types, but with fitness instead of, you know, other stuff. Interval training, for those who have yet to experience the pain, is running with a focus on oxygen deprivation. Kind of like water-boarding, but with more cardio. You'll start at a baseline pace, then up it to a slightly faster pace, then take it to a "sprint." Rinse and repeat until one or both lungs collapse.The point is to push your heart past where it's comfortable. It also is probably the most effective way to burn fat, so that's nice. The circuit training is something that most people who have had a gym membership are probably going to be familiar with. It's basically Crossfit without the poor form and the high risk of injury. No super-heavy lifting, but lots of reps using body weight, which keeps your heart pumping and your calories burning while also tearing down some muscle. So, you're probably thinking, why on earth would I want to punish myself for an hour when I could feel just as good about myself by pumping iron, or for the lady-folk, doing some hot zumba or yoga meditation stuff or whatever you do? Here's why: in 1 hour, I burned 1035 calories. And considering that I spend a good 30-minutes with a heart-rate over 175 bpm, my metabolism will burn another 300 to 500 calories over the next day or so. Since my daily calorie intake is supposed to be 2500 or so, that means I burnt half my daily intake of calories. In an hour. This is probably the best workout I've had since high school cross country eight years ago. If your goal is to burn fat and to get into the best shape of your life, this is your gym. To put it another way, if I were going to be sent to prison, and if I only had a month or two to get into good enough shape to keep myself from getting non-consensual AIDS, this would be where I trained. Unless you have a schedule that is open during late morning to early afternoon (mid-day), or a very,very set schedule, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to get into a class. Classes are full WEEKS to a MONTH out. I have a job where my schedule changes not only daily, but sometimes hourly. I felt 100% ripped off from what I "sold" when I came in and signed up. I signed up for the 6 month contract when it was indicated that getting into class wouldn't be a problem, but that was definitely FALSE. I was stuck in a 6 month contract with very few opportunities to actually get into a class! What a rip off!!!!!!!!! I feel cheated and lied to. I'm sorry, but the RIDICULOUS rule of a 12 hour cancellation or you are charged a fee is a total scam! Please tell me a single person that can map out 12 hours in advance every single day of the week and ALWAYS have it stick to the schedule. Yes, we all have schedules and meetings, but too often stuff comes up that can potentially move back your entire schedule, all the time. This cancellation policy is not only a total RIP OFF, but completely unrealistic. Like WOW, please just think about the times that you go to bed feeling fine and wake up 7 hours later and have the flu? Think about the times that a meeting runs two hours longer than expected and pushes back your whole schedule?! How often does this stuff happen 12 hours in advance?!? NEVER! Hence, why this cancellation policy and all of Orange Theory's scheduling procedures is just STUPID. On the rare occasions where I could get into a class AND/OR a class I signed up for actually worked with my crazy, every-changing schedule: the teachers and staff were always AMAZING. It is VERY unfortunate that getting into a class/booking a class/changing a class last minute/etc., is such a nightmare because the employees truly give you a fantastic workout and really make a huge effort to get to know you and push you. I LOVE the staff there and I really struggled putting up such a negative review solely because of the staff being so amazing...but I decided to finally do it after receiving a survey review from Orange Theory and realizing I wished someone really warned me before I signed up. Additionally, Orange Theory became such a sore subject between me and my husband: it costs so much and was so impossible to get my monies worth. Although I think the staff are some of the best trainers ever and/or give some of the best workouts ever: it didn't feel right to not say anything and give more stars because the other issues significantly RUINED my overall experience with Orange Theory. Go to Madison Improvement Club Spin class and receive just as an intense CARDIO workout for less money [they offer student discounts too unlike OT]! There are zero issues getting into classes or cancelling classes. They allow for a 6 hour cancellation time, but if you call and explain they wave it usually. They have times all day and a phone app that actually works and is useful!!! In summary: the staff, trainers, work outs, etc., are AMAZING and have zero fault here. When you get into a class you definitely get your monies worth. HOWEVER, if you don't have bottomless pockets AND have an ever-changing schedule OR a schedule that only typically allows you to workout morning or night, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Please note: the staff really did try to work with my ever-changing schedule and would routinely allow me to move to a later class if I last minute couldn't make a certain time, but unfortunately sometimes that still wouldn't work and I would still be charged for missing a class. I really do love the staff, but so incredibly annoyed with the business. read more

Two words: I'm addicted. I've been coming to OTF for about 6 months now, and I literally don't know what I'd do without it. Every single trainer is knowledgable and friendly (at least outside of class). Once class starts they really kick your butt! They all know how to motivate you to do your absolute best so you leave every workout feeling energized and drenched in sweat. When I first started OTF I had been going to a kickboxing gym for about a year thinking that was the hardest workout ever. Then I finished my first workout here and thought I'd actually died and gone to workout heaven. My body feels better than ever, I have muscles I never knew existed, and my heart is actually conditioned, which has always been an issue for me. Emily is an awesome trainer, Bryan kicks your booty, and Eric... Well let's just say I have a very strong love-hate relationship with his classes. After already hiking just under 5 miles at Tom's Thumb Peak and enjoying a nice little brunch at Tryst Cafe at the break of dawn, I'll admit I was a tad bit lazy by the time 2pm rolled around. That was my assigned time, 2:15pm, and despite my brain saying "No more!" my body said, "Let's go!" and "Ta Da!" I found myself signing my "In case you die" waiver and answering a little survey about my health history and fitness level. I consider myself pretty fit always juggling between running, hiking, tennis, yoga, spin, and most recently, returning to my favorite hobby, rock climbing. I've also taken a few tabata classes at Mountainside Fitness and sampled some classes at Premier Fitness Systems, so in other words, I was no stranger to circuit training, but I've never had the chance to try OTF (Orange Theory Fitness). I was fitted with a Polar heart rate sensor, which sat snuggly under my sports bra. Being a minimalist, I did not like wearing the sensor, but after the workout started, I forgot it was even there. Well, except for the fact that the heart rate is displayed on LCD screens the minute you walk into the workout room. As one could imagine, if your heart rate was at rest, the color of your "block" on the LCD screen that had your assigned sensor with name displayed was between blue and green in color. Red was the opposite end of the spectrum, where your heart was working at max capacity. Ideally, our instructor Eric explained that you should not spend more than 5 minutes in the "red zone." He said that we need to be aware of how hard our hearts are working so we know how to condition properly. Our group was split into 2. Half of us found our way to the treadmills while the other half worked out on the floor and rowing machines doing different combinations of circuits. Then halfway through the hour, the 2 groups switched. Simple enough. Despite having a large group, Eric was able to bounce everywhere and make sure people were doing what they were supposed to be doing and made sure that exercises were done correctly. It didn't take me long to realize that my shortcoming was definitely the circuit part of the workout. I can spend endless hours doing intervals on the treadmill... well... with the exception of maxing out at a speed of 7.5 to 8 with a 5% incline. The only problem was that I gave "it" my all during the treadmill half of the workout that by the time I got to the circuit part, I had exhausted all my energy and was lazy. Lazy is equivalent to sloppy when trying to do exercise reps. Between doing push ups assisted by resistance bands and throwing a medicine ball around, I found myself just wanting to go back to cardio...go back to the rowing machine, or even back to treadmill. It's funny how the body searches for the "familiar," and it proves that circuit training can condition you as a whole. Cardio must be balanced with weights and resistance training. I feel like the trainers at OTF can help fitness beginners or veteran enthusiasts alike with finding the right balance. I'm very grateful that Yelp and OTF Arcadia finally gave me a chance to try their workout out. I'm seriously considering joining, but probably the location closer to me near Lake Pleasant. read more
