She told me I had to supply my credit card information, "just in case you want a water or something"... I told her that shouldn't be necessary since I have my own water bottle and towel, etc etc.. Never done the group fitness bit in my 25 odd years of physical fitness and I figured I'd give this a shot. This location in Poughkeepsie is in the old South hills Mall plaza across from the Chuck e cheese. Plenty of parking and it seems like a brand new building. I was given an introduction by Coach Julie who walked us through all the movements and the workouts we were going to do. The whole experience is about an hour long and definitely was well worth the drive and I'm feeling it this morning. I was unfamiliar with some of the exercises but I was given plenty of encouragement and coaching by Coach Julie. If you get a chance and you're interested in checking it out you should definitely give them a call and ask for her classes. overall the idea is to compete against yourself and you get to see all the numbers up on the screen and there is a little tracker that goes on your arm that keeps your vitals monitored. The coaches will come around and tell you when you can take it down or not or to pick it up and it's a very encouraging atmosphere in there. If you want to get in a quick intense workout I would highly recommend orangetheory. read more

It's been awhile since I've visited an Orangetheory. A few years ago, I was a diehard member at one of the first studios in Miami. Sadly, I moved to a neighborhood where there isn't a convenient location; however, I still love the workout and was pumped to see an outpost near me while on business in Poughkeepsie. I signed up easily online for an 8:00 am class on Wednesday. It's $28 for a single class which is rather pricey, but I bit the bullet. If you've never done Orangetheory before, it's a 60 minute class that combines cardio and strength training through a series of circuits on the floor, treadmill, and rower. Certain days are divided by endurance, power, and strength, so you are guaranteed to never have the same workout twice for the most part. You're coached throughout and your heart rate is projected onto a screen, so you can work to be in different "zones." Your height/weight are also taken so you can get an accurate calorie count and you wear a HR monitor on your wrist or chest. Overall, I really enjoyed the layout of this location. It was open and my class wasn't that full, so there was plenty of room for everyone. Eva led the class and had a killer playlist! I'm so happy to have reignited my spark for Orangetheory. The people who work here are amazing. Everyone is supportive and motivating and want to see you succeed. This is the best workout I have ever had in my life. I get bored with a regular gym. This is a different workout every session that targets full body conditioning with High intensity cardio. It's a commitment and it's hard but the pay off is big. I go to a different OTF and stopped by this one while in town recently. I'm REALLY impressed with it. It's clean and SO spacious. The waiting area especially is so large - plenty of room to get ready while you're waiting for class to start or are getting ready to leave. Staff and coaches seemed friendly as well! My wife and I have been using Orange Theory Gym from the very first week when it opened in 2015. We take one class a week - this is what our work schedule allows us - and we like it. It is a friendly, inviting environment and a good workout. However, I have to complain about inflexibility of the gym owners. We got sick with the Flu and had to miss 4 classes. When we recovered, we were hoping we could get a credit for these classes but Jenny - owner - said they could not do that and offered additional classes without charge - in addition to the one class we take weekly - and we had to decline this offer. I traveled to the area for the holidays and thought it'd be a great idea to continue my workout at OTF. Somehow the OTF app wouldn't let me book class online so I drove half an hour to this studio, arrived at 10:10am and made it perfectly clear that I intended to attend the 10:45am class. The front desk had me fill out the waiver form, took my credit card info to enter in their system, and then told me I was number 2 on a waitlist. Ok I'll wait. But I found myself still waiting after the class started. According to the front desk, they wait after 5 minutes into the class to find out if anything available. After almost 10 minute into the class, she told me the class was officially full. Apparently the computers at the front desk are for decorative purposes as they solely rely on head-counting. What a joke! But the joke is really on me for spending one hour driving back and forth, another one hour waiting, only to find out the class was full. read more

I am with other Yelp users. I gave them my credit card information for the heart rate monitor. I only took one class for the pre grand opening. Later that week I get texts from them that my credit card was declined ..Thankfully I lost my credit card. I said to them basically why are you trying to charge me? I didn't even sigh up and I gave back the heart rate monitor. I was told I have to cancel my membership in person. FALSE ADVERTISING.. Now to the gym... They do not have a lot of showers,bathroom.. Didn't care that the lockers was outside the bathroom. I am staying with Artegas gym . The instructor was good... They need more between the benches... You have to move them around if you don't want to bump into other members Also my heart rate monitor I was in the grey zone a lot of the time so why would I buy a heart rate monitor that didn't work properly read more

I am a premier member who joined when the Poughkeepsie, New York location first opened in January, 2015, however, it has deteriorated drastically over the last 10 months. Approximately 11 employees, both trainers and personnel at the front desk, have either been bullied out, quit, or fired without valid cause. The membership has dropped drastically; one goes there to release tension only to enter into a tomb of despair with the front office manager bullying the other employees. If a member wants to end their membership they are given the run-around and flooded with bantering and questions as to Why all the while so that the studio can just get another month's membership. I will change my review once the owner is accountable to his actions and the fitness studio returns to a healthy environment. August 2018 UPDATE: : NOTE: If you are a current member and want to leave, do not let the front desk talk you into "FREEZING" you account, it only benefits the studio as they have a low member count and desperately want to show corporate a high member count. I happily quit OTF Poughkeepsie 3 months ago to join one of the trainers new studio, along with numerous other OTF Poughkeepsie members who are fed up with the nonsense of this particular studio owner's behavior. This OTF Poughkeepsie location has lost hundreds (yes hundreds) of members over the last 12 months because the studio owner has either fired or bullied out multiple trainers and support staff. These members, including myself, have either joined the businesses where these trainers are now employed or have joined gyms or other studios. I will not answer any responses to this review as Yelp does not monitor "fake" reviews (i.e., one can just create a profile and then write a review). Just let it be known that this particular studio is not of the caliber of the monthly fee. read more

The best workout I've had. I'm a former collegiate athlete and half-marathon runner - so I've been working out for a very. Long. Time. There is so much to love about this workout: The intensity, the positive environment, that after-exercise surge of FEELING GREAT about what you've accomplished. Plus, I love that I can walk in and not have to plan my own workout. It's already done for me! And, I'm able to do it at my own comfort level. In particular OT Poughkeepsie is staffed with energetic, friendly folks and trainers who know how to make the workout fun. I've taken classes with Cat and AJ and both have great personalities and fill their classes with positive words of encouragement. Highly, highly recommend OT Poughkeepsie. read more

This isn't my home studio but I spent a lot of time in the area the past few months so I ended spending most of my time at this studio. I've been to 5 others and this is by far my favorite! I just wish I lived in New York so I could go here all the time! The coaches are ALL amazing, and I haven't had that same experience at any other studio. Not only do they walk you through the entire workout but they provide positive, upbeat and motivational energy. I've never had a coach tell me to pick heavier weights or push my tread faster and they do that, which is exactly what you need when working out! When you feel like you want to quit or jump off the tread they push you harder. I think this is by far the best OTF studio I have been to, they really take it to a new level! read more

I had the same issue as the last two people on Yelp who were charged the first month fee. When I called to inquire about the charge , I was told that I had to go to the gym to sign the cancelation form, but manager was not there to sign their side of the cancellation form . I was never given a not copy of the agreement when I signed up originally. There was a lot of fine print in the contract and that should have raised a the red flag Not a great way of starting off a new business . I'm a retired college athlete and still very active. I tried OT for the first time in Poughkeepsie a month ago and came back for a drop in recently. Friendly staff and coaches. I love the theory behind the class and had great workouts during both of my visits. However, both times I went I rented a wristband heart monitor and following both classes I was told that my monitor didn't function properly as I wasn't able to get in the orange zone and it wasn't due to my work rate. I was told that sometimes if you don't wear the band "tight enough" or in the "perfect spot" on my wrist that it won't always register my heart rate correctly. This is supposed to be a heart rate based training class and due to faulty monitors I wasn't able to get the full experience. Not to mention I was charged $10 for the monitor rental. The money isn't really the issue but I am interested in coming back to OT and keeping it a part of my workout regimen but not sure how to prevent this from happening again. Next time I go I'll try a different type of monitor but I am disappointed that I had the same experience twice. read more

Everything about OTF Poughkeepsie met and exceeded my expectations! From the moment you walk in the door you are part of the OTF family. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. They are all very involved and are highly knowledgeable. They really are there to help you succeed. The workouts vary each day, are high energy and can be personalized to your ability. The trainers are highly motivating and assure you are getting the most out of the class. Its like you have your own personal trainer. This is a Very clean facility. I started in January and have seen great results. I do have to say be careful though, this gym is addicting! read more

I read some of the other reviews, and I must say I can't vouch for those specific things - but if you're like me and want a really, really nice place to work out with awesome instructors and staff that really care, and get a work out that's tailored to you with results, this gym rocks. I am from out of town but dropped by to keep on pace with working out for an upcoming race (Spartan) and I'm glad I did. The facility is top notch, each person has their own equipment, including dumb bells, that are already laid out in place, and everything is brand new and clean. To top it off, the staff were super helpful, helped me with fixing my monitor and getting me to my work out stat. Extremely poorly run "studio". Inconveniently located, this member based facility is operated by disorganized management and exuberant prices. How hard is it to manage roughly 400 members? When I attended my first complimentary class, I waited for 30 minutes staring at the wall. Could have gotten a work out in in that time. Do not even bother with this gym. I signed up for their "free trial" sessions and was told my credit card information would cover the cost of the heart rate monitor and they would charge me only if I took a monitor and signed up after the trial week. Well, they didn't even give me a heart rate monitor and only one to borrow. I never purchased one and told the guy at the counter I could not do the classes because of scheduling issues. And he never said I needed to sign a cancellation form. And then I noticed an 89 dollar charge to my account. I never signed up for additional classes and was not told about a cancellation form as I was told this was not a "membership" gym. My ass. They had me set up for a February cycle and are asking me to sign a cancellation form! That sounds like a membership to me. They are misleading. The scheduling sucks and the work outs you can do on your own at a real gym. Plus the heart rate monitors are not even accurate. This business is false advertising and the staff are not helpful, nice or useful. Definitely do not recommend this gym. read more

I've been going to Orange Theory for 2 months and I'm loving it. The workouts are hard, but can be modified for all fitness levels. Half of the hour long class is spent doing treadmill intervals guided by the trainer. The other half of the class is spent doing a combination of rowing, weightlifting and bodyweight exercises. Everyone is wearing a chest strap heart rate monitor that you purchase at the gym. The goal of each class is to keep your heart rate in the "orange zone" (84-90% of your max, I think) for 12-20 minutes. It takes the question out of whether or not you are working out hard enough. There are all different kind of people there - both in shape and out-of-shape, so everyone should feel comfortable. It's a great alternative to the boring solo treadmill workout. There is a great group atmosphere at Orange Theory, and the music and trainers are motivating. The gym itself is small but there are 2 showers and a row of lockers. read more

"read the fine print" I signed up for the "free" two week trial which actually was not free. I provided my credit card info (to cover cost of heart rate monitor) and signed a contract. I awaited the opening of the fitness studio and 6 weeks later I took my first and only class. Later in the month I received a charge of $139.00 on my debit card. I thought I would only be charged if I agreed to stay on. When I contacted the facility they said you signed the contract! but yet I was never given a copy, and they said you had until the 21st to cancel. Again if I was given a copy of the contract, maybe I would of had a "reminder of the cancel by date" I had no contract to read, no email, no way to remember what was discussed 6 weeks prior... With that being said I bought a 1 month membership for $139.00, had to close my debit card at my bank and try to dispute the charges....sign at your own risk!!! read more

Orange Theory Fitness is awesome. It's such a great workout program that really challenges you to your maximum potential. I am an OTF member in Los Angeles where I live, and came to this studio while I was in town for the long weekend. The staff working at the desk (I think Danielle and AJ?) were super welcoming and nice to chat with. The instructor was awesome as well. He personally came over to me to ask me my name and said I did great with one of the challenges. He was also super motivating and I really challenged myself even more because of that. This program may seem expensive, but it's worth every single penny. I've been doing this workout for a few months now, and I can't imagine ever stopping because it's so addicting and the results in my body make it all worth it. You WILL see results in this class. Beware of contracts. The initial "trial" sessions require you to sign a contract. The front desk people are not clear in describing how you will automatically be billed every month unless you cancel in person. I did 1 session and preferred to continue with my current gym.
