They see the child as a whole person and not just a cough or a rash. I have often had to wait (ex a 2pm appointment can often turn into a 3pm appointment or once for me, even turned into a 4pm appointment when a child with an urgent issue came in). If you hate to wait (or have a tight schedule), it might be frustrating. When my child is sick or has an issue - I don't want to feel like I have to go home and look things up on the internet to confirm the pediatrician gave me all the options and was up on the most current guidelines, research etc. I trust Westchester Pediatrics to tell me what I need to know and that's it. For an anxious mom who is a compulsive looker up of things, that's huge. I trust the care - no need to look anything up.

I figured if she could trust Helping Kids Pediatrics with her kids, then I do not need to look any further. Now, 8 years later AND a county away, Drs. Jacobs continues to care for all four of our children. I can honestly say that they treat our kids like their own. Both doctors are like walking encyclopedias; with knowledge not only in their pediatric specialty, but also in various other specialties. Their expertise help new and veteran parents make informed decisions about their children's care. Dr. Elizabeth is also a Lactation Consultant, so for brand new mother's, this is such a blessing in one easy location! They are very responsive to any questions that I may have AND with any documentation needed (especially for school-aged kids). They are thorough during the examinations/visits and genuinely listen and care about parental concerns. The patient portal is also helpful and easy to use. We scheduled a visit prior to our son being born. The 2 of them spent over and hour with us answering dozens of questions and never once pushed for our commitment. After the meeting my wife and I were very confident in their abilities as physicians. They are parents themselves and this was evident right away. There was no doubt we were choosing them as our sons physicians. My cousins have been going to this practice for years. When my son was born in California with a birth condition, they immediately gave our family recommendations for treatment and what specialist to see when we moved back to NJ. That put my mind at ease right away, they knew and understood his condition and followed it every step of the way. We have seen 3 out of the 4 doctors in the practice and have been seen at both locations. We tend to see Dr Rothenberg, the doctor who suggested the specialist, and Dr Hages the most but we have also experience Dr Fishkind when our other 2 doctors were on vacation, we love them all. What I love the most is that they highly recommend vaccines for your child and recommend that you follow the CDC's schedule but they don't shove it down your throat like other practices. That meant a lot to me as I broke up the shot so that they weren't all at one time. I later learned that it was best this way as my son had surgery with a blood transfusion and I learned that you needed to wait to give the MMR a year after that, because they were flexible we were able to wait that extra year. The nurses are always available to answer questions. They are open 7 days a week and can be reached 24 hours a day.

The doctors are nice however, they have missed so many diagnosis over the years. When my child was…read moregoing into school, they apparently forgot to mark down that he got an immunization because the school questioned if he had all of them. The doctor tried to look into it but could not find it. She said that she probably just forgot to mark it down. Another time, another doctor swore that my child probably had strep even though the test came back negative. Before we left, I asked about a rash he had and suddenly, they realized it was coxsackie. Another time, I asked about an issue I was concerned with for one child and the doctor wasn't concerned. 10 months later, we find out the other child has a major issue that we would have tested for 10 months earlier if the dr had taken my concern seriously and knew that it potentially had genetic implications for siblings. After we found out about the major issue, the doctors did not contact us to see how he was doing. I have reached out to them regarding this issue via the portal and they ghosted me. How do pediatricians ghost a parent? I had questions and suggestions so that other parents are not taken by surprise with the issue my son has and they ghosted me. We have seen every doctor in this practice throughout our long tenure with them and although they seem nice, they are not competent except if it's just your average check up.

I want to give special praise to one doctor in particular, Dr. David Costabile. He is extremely patient, listens to your concerns and thoroughly addresses all your questions no matter how minute. He explains everything in layman's terms and never throws medical jargon in your face. He has been the best health care profession that I've ever dealt with.
