We were taken to a room and after set up our massage started about 10:15/10:20. The massage itself was great. I almost couldn't even get up after she was done. I was confused though because there was no aromatherapy there and it wasn't offered but it was part of the Groupon I purchased. When we were finished they asked if we wanted a shower, of course we did - I was looking forward to a steam shower with aromatherapy enhancements. We got to the showers and once again, no aromatherapy. She turned it on for me and showed me how to use the steam. It was nice, I stayed in there for about 20 min. Overall, the staff was nice. The massage was great, the shower felt good. I was slightly disappointed that I had no aromatherapy though because it was definitely part of the package I purchased. I'm also confused on why they asked if I even wanted a shower if it was also part of the package I purchased as well?

At the beginning of the session I politely asked for an extra pillow for support while laying on my stomach, and she immediately seemed irritated by the request. The pillow she gave me did not have a hole for me to breathe through. From that point on, the massage itself did not feel like a deep tissue massage at all. It mostly felt like lotion being lightly rubbed on my back rather than any real muscle work. When I asked if she could apply more pressure, instead of adjusting the technique she repeatedly pressed her elbow into the same area, which became painful rather than helpful. It felt like the same spot was being worked over and over instead of a proper massage. Since this was a couples massage, my partner was in the room with me and even he could tell that I was uncomfortable during the session even his massage therapist Emma seen I was uncomfortable and she tried to lighten the mood. I still tried to be a good sport and finish the massage because he had spent so much money on the experience and I didn't want to ruin the moment. Afterward I shared my concerns with the manager. I was told that Angie has "never received a complaint before," which made my feedback feel dismissed. I was also offered a coupon, which I declined because I wasn't looking for a discount or a free service. I simply wanted to share my experience as a customer. Overall, the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and unheard. For the price paid and the reputation the place seemed to have, this experience did not meet expectations.

The cozy slippers were a nice touch! My massage therapist took the time to ask about my concerns (stiff shoulders and neck) and checked in throughout to make sure the pressure was right. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxing, dim lighting, peaceful music, and even a heated table. By the end, I sincerely felt so much better. She also showed me a few simple stretches I can do at home, which I really appreciated. Thank you, Laura! I'll definitely be back and am excited to try more of their services. The membership here is easy to sign up for and nearly impossible to cancel, and after three months…read moreof this I do not believe that is an accident. My wife requested cancellation on May 7, 2026. She was told a manager had to call her back. One called on May 15 and she missed it, with no way to finish the request on her own and no email address offered. She called again June 14, got a callback around June 20, and the membership still was not cancelled. We were charged in May, June, and July (so far). The terms say cancellation happens upon receipt of your request. They say nothing about manager approval, and I could not find that requirement on the Hand & Stone website either. It was only explained verbally, after we had already been charged. In practice, the only person who can complete your cancellation is someone you cannot reach on demand, a missed call sends you back to the start, and billing never pauses. Other reviews here describe the same thing. One star is for the membership and billing process specifically. Signing up took five minutes and leaving has taken three months, and a door that only opens from the inside by someone who is never there is not a membership, it is a trap with nice lighting.

After calling three separate times in two days to speak with the manager, Jamie, she finally returned my call and told me that membership freezes are not effective until you speak directly with a manager. This was never explained to me during any of my previous calls. Had I been told that a manager's approval was required, I would have gladly waited for a callback or followed up immediately! Instead, I was told that she had left me one voicemail months earlier that I never received, and because I didn't return that call, nothing could be done. She refunded one month's charge but refused to backdate the freeze to when I originally requested it, despite the fact that I had contacted the studio multiple times and was never informed that any additional approval was needed. The most shocking part of the experience was how it ended. Rather than trying to resolve the issue or acknowledge the communication breakdown on their end, Jamie cancelled my membership and informed me that I was no longer welcome at the Northbrook studio because I continued to question the handling of my account. Customer service should involve listening, communicating policies clearly, and taking responsibility when mistakes are made. Instead, I was left paying for months of membership I can't use because of an injury, and then was essentially banned for asking that the situation be corrected. As for the services themselves, they were inconsistent. The quality of the massage therapists varied significantly from visit to visit, and I also had a facial that was underwhelming. Between the poor communication, lack of accountability, and how I was ultimately treated as a member, I would never recommend this studio or company!
