Project: Small Bathroom Remodel Overall, I recommend BelRed especially if you are looking for fair, affordable pricing (they don't charge for materials and can even help you find discounts through their contractor discounts) and because the quality of their remodel seems great. Chen and his crew are friendly, respectful and try to tidy after the project. The overall communication process was a bit frustrating however and I sort of felt like I had to project management part of it (which honestly for the price and quality is worth it). Here are a few instances: 1. We aligned on what I needed to purchase on my end (materials and items such as floor, tiles, bathtub, mirror) and where everything would be located in the bathroom. Once they started installing things such as a light fixture that would go above the mirror and sink, I noticed it wasn't center to the sink so I pointed out that I'd like it to be center to the sink and the eventual mirror. This convo led to my discovery that the light fixture had to be slightly off center because of a pipe that was behind the wall so it was impossible to make it perfectly center. That's totally okay!! What it revealed was that they wouldn't be able to put in the mirror cabinet because of that pipe. I wish they notified me earlier rather than me having to ask questions to discover this new information. The cabinet I ordered (and we agreed on at the beginning that I wanted a mirror cabinet in that location) needed to be returned but it was a "no refund" item. Fortunately, everything worked out in the end, I was able to find a new non-cabinet mirror but I just really wished it was communicated to me as soon as they realized (like after tearing down the old wall to replace it with new drywall because that's when they saw the pipe) vs me asking Qs and finding out later. I also expressed this sentiment directly to them. 2. We aligned on which paint I wanted the wall to be painted. They finished painting the wall and after looking at it I was sure it wasn't correct. The paint I chose and told them to use was a cream color while the walls looked very white. They told me they used the paint I sent them in an image I sent via text. To triple check I painted a small spot on the wall with the correct can and color (same as the picture I sent in the text) just to see if it was the same paint, but it wasn't. They came back to paint the correct paint no problem the next day though. 3. There were several instances when I was told the crew would by dropping by but did not and I followed up via text to be told it would be another day. That's totally fine! I'd just like to know since I work for home and I shift around meetings to be available if I know for sure they are there and have questions for me or will be loud because of the renovation.

He gave me a very calm and reassuring feeling from day one, explained every step of the process clearly, and kept everything organized and on track. At that meeting, we were told we needed to install flooring under the cabinets. After speaking with a contracting friend and two other companies, everyone said that was incorrect. This led me to doubt their professional knowledge and expertise. After the initial meeting, everything started going by the wayside. They missed appointments, were hard to get a hold of, and changed their story. We went from picking out materials to needing another appointment for the contractor to see the home. During the second appointment for measuring and seeing the home, they "measured" by measuring at an extreme angle. The contractor, in charge of demolishing our kitchen, demonstrated no knowledge in how to properly measure (it was NOT an area needing an angle to measure). That was concerning. They also didn't know the business hours of their own vendors. When we decided not to continue with FC Construction, they were honorable in giving us a refund. But when we called to remind them, the owner told us the refund was in the process. The next day, the main company line called and asked for our refund information to issue a refund. So it being "processing" was a lie. I didn't trust them to start any work, so I have no idea how their work is. But I wouldn't recommend based on the many red flags mentioned above. Kind people, though.

I want to defend that I have really high standards for where every dollar is going and my dollars spend the same as everyone else. The owner of this business spent more time responding to my *Yelp review* than bringing clarity to budget DURING our engagement. Even in his response the measurement and scope is unfortunately inaccurate which reaffirms my first line. "It is difficult level setting what is being contracted with this contractor." I expect my contractor to upfront with budget - this Yelp response proves that simply not the workflow here, and that's why I'm amending it to help y'all work with the best fit for you. We worked with J&M on a bathroom remodel. Bathroom is 5x6 feet and quote was for 6 weeks work and…read more50k. We ended project at 18 weeks and 60k. During our project, the sub-contractors damaged the wall while installing our toilet by drilling through the wall and failing to hook up the toilet correctly so that water was pouring straight into our basement. The sub-contractor did pay for these damages. We had no supply chain issues with our project as we had purchased all the materials ourselves before hand. Our primary issues with working with J&M was that due to the amount of projects they had going on, it felt that unless we were actively saying we were unhappy with progress and calling J&M frequently, there would only be work at our home 1 or 2 days a week. When asking for estimates for components J&M were unable to provide accurate estimates. For example, it was estimated that tiling our shower would take 1 week with 2 people due to the complex design. It ended up taking 3 weeks. This is our only bathroom, so we lived with my parents for several weeks, but I would hesitate to recommend J&M to anyone who doesn't have a flexible timeline. In addition, J&M failed to notify of us of change orders that resulted in an increase of price. These were supposed to be agreed upon mutually before the work was completed, but instead J&M released them after the work was done and were forced to eat the cost. J&M did not provide any options to mitigate this cost even though this was in direct breach of our contract. Ultimately, we are reasonably happy with the final outcome of our bathroom, but extremely unhappy with path to get there. We ended up not asking for several fixes as we were so fed up with the inaccurate timelines and constantly changing estimates. Fixes include 1) bleeding paint on ceiling, 2) missed paint spot, 3) grout on window and tile, 4) miss-cut vanity counter-top, and 5) dip in floor tiling causing one spot to not drain. All in all, J&M has good general contractors, but seem extremely mismanaged in the back of office. If you do work with them, double check all billing multiple times as we found several inaccuracies. Hold J&M to prices and push back on change order process.

A++! We needed help identifying and eliminating a bad smell…read morethat seemed to be coming from the wall/subfloor. We weren't sure what kind of business could help, so I went to Yelp looking for a handyman, and we're so glad we found Pete! He's got the skills and tools to handle your job, I'm sure. He was able to come over just a few hours later (on a Sunday afternoon), and in about 20 minutes had pinpointed the problem - a nest of mice hiding in a small space accessible via a crevice in the hardyboard planks on the exterior of the house, right below our fireplace. He then ran to the hardware store to pick up the supplies for the job, and returned and worked for a couple of hours in the snow and cold, cleaning out the critters and their nastiness, re-planking, and sealing everything up well with caulk (original builder had not done a great job). He is very friendly and professional, and I think his pricing was quite reasonable for what we got in return. We will be giving Pete a call next time we need a hand (will be soon as we do need help with our sink too!), and will be letting our neighbors know about him!
