Madison sourdough made it to our list of places to visit by virtue of their morning buns, which I…read moreread about during my research for what to eat in the area. We stopped off on a Sunday morning before leaving Madison to head to the Dells. We were able to snag a parking spot on the street pretty much right out front of the place but I did notice that there seem to be a parking lot next-door. we were intimidated by the queue that had formed and was literally no exaggeration, "out the door". I wouldn't say that it moved quickly per se, but quick enough. The time spent on the queue is good for catching up on emails, some self reflection, or perusing the menus that they have stacked on the counter. We finally made it to the register. I ordered a ginger pistachio Matcha (iced of course, in this heat) and GF a banana something latte. The morning bun was fantastic. It almost reminds me of a cruffin. Maybe lighter? It wasn't overwhelming, it was flaky and delicate with a muffin-esque but lighter booty. A delightful breakfast snack. The matcha was out of this world. Such a unique and delicious flavor. It lasted two seconds. GF enjoyed her latte. It wasn't as sweet as I would have liked but for her, someone who doesn't like sweet coffee beverages, it was perfect. I can see why this place is so popular.

It's definitely a storefront with no seating, but if you don't mind standing there's an area where you could eat at a counter. I arrived at 9am on a Sunday and by the time I finished ordering, a line had formed out the door. I would definitely recommend getting here early; however, it's also the kind of place where you can't go wrong with anything you order. After a lot of waffling, I ordered the lemon currant scone, peach muffin, and ham and Gruyère bun. The scone was super buttery with a crunchy exterior and soft interior, with the most lovely glaze and lemon zest throughout. It definitely screamed summer. The peach muffin was super light and airy, and not at all too sweet. The crunchy cinnamon topping was absolute perfection and brought the perfect texture contrast. I really enjoyed the bun, which was like a mini sourdough loaf. I do think there could have been a bit more ham, but the caramelized onions throughout made sure that every bite was super flavorful. Next time I'm in town, you better believe Batch will be my first stop!

Here are the flavors I tried: Coffee Creme Brulee - Caramelized sugar on top of coffee & vanilla bean white chocolate ganache, encased in white chocolate. Hazelnut Praline - Milk chocolate & hazelnut praline blended with crispy croquant, encased in dark chocolate. It feels like walking inside a Victorian house with dark woody furnishings. There is a see a shadow appeared by the order counter, no smile no greetings, just an annoyed look of discontent. In my thoughts, is this a ghost? In such an old house, it must be. I looked at the board menu. I ordered the. corn beef, sunny side eggs, and toast. After ordering, I paid for the breakfast meals. To my surprise, I was asked to tip 18%, 20% and 25%. In my mind, does a ghostly figure did she deserve a tip. Even though, I didn't receive good customer service but I tipped. I was given a mechanical box to alarm me when my order is ready. I started walking inside the narrow corridor. I looked at the decorations on the wall. It seems like the decor and images inside the frames moving around with prying eyes. Finally, a place to sit. A buzzing sound alerted me, ah the breakfast meals are ready. I walked back to the order counter. I was confused, I have to get my own order from a small window and serve myself. Jinkies! Mystery has been solved. That's why the restaurant is named 'Lazy Janes', there is no customer service. It's the patron's job to get the food and clean up. Does this eating experience deserve a tip?
