Walking in the fog hoping it clears for sunset

7 miles of beach with easy access parking and restrooms. What's not to like? Complaints focus on lack of parking but that doesn't mean the beach is at fault. Clean and well loved beach. Popular spot for sure. Come early morning for beach walking and at sunset for gorgeous pics.

Well it's about time for an updated review of the Driver park. It's beautiful popular spot right off hwy 101. there's kite festivals here which is a great event. check the schedule on that. Parking can be a pain at times but come early enough and you don't have to fight over parking spots. Have some patience and you'll eventually find a spot. sit back, relax and watch the sunsets, kids running away from seagulls, and just soak up the salty sea breeze and listen to the waves crash onto the shore. This spot brings back a lot of memories located next to the Sands motel. We came here growing up as a family so it's a sweet walk thru memory lane to come back and just watch the minutes go but who's really counting when you're at the coast! Everything's better at the coast! P.s I didn't see the abandoned trailers from an older post.

Lincoln City pleasantly surprised me in many ways, but this stretch of beach isn't very exciting. There is the novelty of visiting the world's shortest river [1], but the beach itself is rather blah. The D River Wayside is located in the middle of Lincoln City and the pluses are free parking and a small public restroom. On reflection, I don't think that the restroom can be considered a plus. It is one of those sad beach bathrooms with no mirrors (always wondered why) and not maintained terribly well during the day. There are so many lovely spots to the north and south, that this is really only a good option if you want easy, immediate access to a flat, sandy beach. [1] The claim is actually disputed by folks in the great state of Montana for the Roe River in Great Falls, but Lincoln City has refused to take down the signs.

It's a big parking lot -- at sea level -- on the edge of the continent facing west toward nothing but ocean, sunset, and Japan. But from a distance -- I can look down on this stretch of beach and see incredible waves. Layer on layer of white petticoat ruffles as the waves roll up to the Oregon coast. Sometimes -- so loud it sounds like I'm standing near a runway at DFW International. Other times, it's just a gently rolling froth with hardly any sound at all. Some days, the waves stack up 10 and 15 deep out to the west, taking their turn curling toward shore, while other days -- the splash is low and effortless -- barely a ripple. During beach season and long weekends throughout the year, the beach here at D River Wayside is full of families and dogs and couples walking in the sand. It's the site of various cook-offs and contests and kite-flying events as well. But its best moments are late in the evening as the sun disappears. You can sit in your car as though it were an old drive-in picture show -- with your burger and fries and the kids in your lap -- listening to the radio, glad to be at the seashore for just a few minutes more.

About as scenic as D River gets...

The D River Wayside is Lincoln City's big touristy beach. So if you're visiting Lincoln City for the first time and don't really ever plan to return, I suppose you ought to visit. It has some novelty. The D River is (arguably) the shortest river in the world. It runs from Devil's lake, under highway 101, and out to the ocean. At high tide, the river is only 120 feet long. A friend and I walked the length of the river one day, in an hilarious imitation of 1950's movie style jungle explorers. Ah, good times. Unfortunately, that's the jewel in the D River Wayside cap. It's a flat, flat beach. No pretty rocks. No tidepools. No crashing waves. Just flat sand, and tons of people, and tons of seagulls. So once you've seen this place, you've seen it all. There are plenty of better beaches along the coast, even in Lincoln City. Of course, if you're at the beach to be among a lot of people, and watch tons of kids playing with their kites and dealing with all the garbage and noise that goes along with the crowds... by all means. Check out Seaside while you're at it.

Update it's been 5 months and the same RV is still there everyday and night. D River is turning into a transient place.

Easy beach access, free parking, and clean beaches. The parking lot is large but does get full at times, but the area is beautiful.

The fries are always a big hit, wish they had a buffet, we typically come here for the grill or crispy sandwich or halibut sandwich. This particular day my halibut was two small strips! I will come back, I recommend the chicken sandwich. For being a casino I feel that this place can step up their game in the menu. Just my opinion.. Great view on both locations!

Most of my problems are related to the actions and temperament displayed toward me by the reservations staff, Heather the supervisor, and Nick, an employee with 6 years tenure. I found their communications with me to be unfriendly, disrespectful, devious, and not ones that reflect favorably on the massive corporate structure whose rules they of course follow, unflinchingly. I refuse to spend any of my time and/or money with people and companies that treat me like Chinook Winds incorporated, trains, expects and requires their service employees to treat customers. So sayonara, I will never return Heather. I hope your corporate profits will now soar in 2026 since you have charged me a late checkout fee of $25, when I was led to believe otherwise in a conversation I had with Nick at 11:20am, and not notified that I would be charged by a very dour Heather at 12:45 when I was granted admittance to my room for 5 minutes to collect my things. Just duplicitous and deceitful behavior. Ciao for now, and forever!!

It doesn't get much more coastal than this region…read more We were really fortunate to visit the Oregon Coast in November on a clear Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Nothing but sunshine greeted us. No rain, fog or clouds dampened our road trip. The weather this week where we visited: Coos Bay, Florence, Newport, Yachats, Depoe Bay forecasted rain and wind with even a gale warning in some parts. The Oregon Coast is so beautiful! Thor's Well in Yachats at high tide was amazing to see. At low tide we saw some brave folks walk down towards the edge of that gaping hole. In Florence we descended down 208-ft in an elevator to the Sea Lion Caves... we didn't get a chance to see any sea lions at the time but the cave was cool to see. In Newport was where we saw sea lions bask and roll about at the docks just below Clearwater Restaurant and Port Dock One in Historic Bayfront. FREE! No matter the season, the Oregon Coast is a rejuvenating getaway. We enjoyed visiting the coastal cities, admiring lighthouses, making footprints in the sand, dining on the coast, checking out unique souvenir shops, seeing miles and miles of public coastline that continue to be free and public... captivated by the beauty of the mighty Pacific Ocean. Let's go! Review #3262

Great trail...loads to see and a real workout in the process…read more We arrived at the trailhead at 8am to be the first in the lot on a Saturday. By the time we returned the lot was full. There's a decent amount of parking...spots for cars, RVs, and trucks with boat trailers. The pre-trail wanders in and out of the trees and road for a bit, but they have great signage to lead you to the actual head. The trail is great, as you get a smidge of everything you could ask for along the way...some shaded forest, wildlife, wildflowers, stunning coastal views, and a pretty butt-kicking workout to the top viewpoint. Keep in mind, we aren't young, and neither are our hips and knees. There are a good number of high clearance steps to climb that weren't the easiest for a gal with short legs and bad hips. Not to mention that the trail is pretty steep as you zig-zag your way up the non-shaded knoll to the second viewpoint at the top of the lower trail (where it meets the upper). The trail is narrow most of the way, especially on that hillside as you push your way through the tall grasses and flowers. You definitely need to watch your step constantly going up and down, as there are hidden steps, rocks, and uneven surfaces beneath the grasses. We almost ended our trip at the lower viewpoint, but after a bit of contemplation decided to push through and up the hillside to the top. I'm super glad we made the choice, but we definitely felt it! So much to see along the way. We got to watch the elk herd as it grazed the knoll at the first opening, so beautiful. Halfway down the hill from the top a fast moving fog bank came off the coast right at us, engulfing us and removing everything from sight for a minute, while providing us with much appreciated and FABulous cold air... a very cool experience for sure. I highly recommend this trail. Go early if you go on the weekend. And if you're now young ONLY at heart, be prepared for a decent workout if you plan to go to the top...but do it, it's worth it. :)
