There is a promenade of sorts with benches between the parking lot and the beach. There are a fair number of benches that offer a perfect opportunity for sitting and taking in the gorgeous views. We experienced one of the best sunsets ever from this convenient beach. D River has a fun history as once being listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as the shortest river. There is a little debate over that fact now, but it doesn't take away from the novelty. Visitors can explore the short river, collect rocks, fly a kite or just take in the views. Everyone is likely to enjoy this delightful park!

But no matter which you choose be prepared for a fairly steep uphill climb. You can make it a full loop, about 3 miles in total. To me the section directly up from Logan Road covering the ridge top around to the Gods Thumb offshoot is pretty, but the other half of the loop down to the cul de sac parking is not so picturesque. Regardless, you'll get a decent workout no matter which route you take up and down. There are lots of caterpillars vying for a spot on the trail right now, so watch your step. :) A fun and clearly popular hike, The Knoll seems to stay pretty busy on the weekends, so go early!

It is recommended not the summit the "Thumb" due to wear and tear to the trail and to preserve the beauty of the sight. You can see it very well from the grassy viewpoint. I did this as a loop which took roughly 5 miles and had 1138 ft elevation gain. Completed in under two hours. The trail is hilly and well traveled. Tree roots stick out where many people have walked. Heading up some of the steeper slopes can also be difficult due to loose dirt. Bring good hiking shoes.

I've seen whale spouts -some 10-16 feet high- almost every time so I know they are out there. When whale migration is in full swing, there are usually volunteers from the Whale Museum in Depoe Bay or a Ranger walking around answering questions and sharing their binoculars. If you see one, take advantage of their vast knowledge and listen. The seagulls & pigeons are always hungry and will wait patiently while you decide to do the right thing and throw them a piece of whatever you're eating. This is one of the best places in Oregon to see ocean-going birds like shearwaters, albatrosses, grebes, pelicans, loons, & oystercatchers. I've seen osprey and bald eagles fly over too. It's pretty windy most of the time but that never stops us from picnicking at one of the many weathered picnic tables set up around the parking lot. Even when it's raining, we pick up a snack at one of the many eateries nearby and eat in the car while the wind howls outside. Parking has never been a problem and it's FREE. There are real flush toilets and the bathrooms are fairly well maintained as far as I've experienced. I've never noticed any "strange characters" hanging around but there are lots of people with dogs and visitors from out-of-state enjoying the view. I like to take my sketchbook and do some quick drawing when I can. I've also been known to pull into a parking spot facing the water, roll down a window and take a nap. There's nothing better than the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep. It's worth the time to stop and check out the view, you'll never be sorry you did.

Great hike that's only about 3 miles round trip. Includes a suspension bridge and little waterfall…read moreat the end. It's easy enough to do with kids about 5 years of age. Going back to the car afterwards is a bit more challenging though because elevation. At the end, you can climb down to get closer, but it's a bit too technical for the kids. The drive there is interesting with lots of windy roads. Make sure you route your trip on GPS there and back while you have signal. I lost all signal up there.

Knight Park is also the parking lot for Cascade Head Trail, so 2-for-1! We went to an event hosted by the UNESCO Cascade Head Biosphere held at Knight Park. From the parking lot alone we saw bald eagles, fish and jellies in the water and more birds then I could identify. Great little dock close to Lincoln City.

Curious. For some reason when we got there the parking lot area stunk like nasty poopoos, I had to cover my face to walk out. I wonder if some big animal was dead nearby? You enter and wind through a short dark "Hobbit" forest then come out to the most amazing views in the world. Rain or shine, it will not disappoint. You can see all the way towards the north past Lincoln City and south to Whale Cove. Keep in mind to watch the kids or animals as there are sheer drops here.
