He said cataract surgery would likely not solve my problem but never explained what my problem was that couldn't be corrected by the cataract surgery. I was surprised by this decision so probably not able to ask the right questions but he was in a hurry and rather abrupt. Then he wrote in the notes that he had a long conversation with me and I decided against cataract surgery. The woman who saw me before him was very helpful but he was not. It is very poor care to not see an ophthalmologist before cataract surgery and let an optometrist make the decision about whether you would benefit. Then if you did have cataract surgery the surgeon would not have looked at your eyes him/her self. I am getting a referral to an ophthalmologist.

I never got to having surgery with PCLI and I'm glad. I grew suspicious when the prices they gave…read moreme were going up every time I talked to them and their promises of what my eyesight was going to be like was a lie. They're great at handing out false hope. I was quoted $2,500 per eye and that went to $2700. per eye and then there was the co-pays and the facility use fee by the time it was done I was looking at around $8,000 for something they couldn't do. I consulted a local doctor who had done my late husband's cataract surgery and he explained that there was a certain amount of correction that comes from having cataract removal but those lenses don't work the way they promised for someone like me. When I canceled they suddenly became very rude said they would cancel with Dr Huggett and hung up, I have had no contact with Dr Huggett or his office staff since the appointments were canceled. He will not talk to me and his staff hangs up on me. The reason I am throwing Dr Huggett into the fire is because he told me that I had cataracts as dense as a glass of milk and that I needed to get cataract surgery right away because the longer I waited the more likely I was to lose sight completely apart from maybe shadows. Dr Huggett knew I was a Medicare patient and still referred me to PCLI at which time PCLI would have known I was a Medicare patient. But I was told they were the best, that I would have 20/20 vision and I wanted that. I'm close to 70 and I wanted to see like I used to. Where they thought I was going to get around $8,000 to pay for what they were offering I don't know. A payment plan would have left me in debt with interest. I would not recommend PCLI to anyone nor would I recommend Dr Huggett to anyone. Since I canceled with PCLI Dr Huggett has refused to talk to me or to see me in any capacity and I have learned that he is a close associate with PCLI. My personal opinion is they are out to take the last penny anyone's got for false hope. Take from that what you will.

Dr Burris was recommended by an optometrist at Costco in Oregon. From the comment by Betsy B it…read moreseems Burris has a corner on corneal treatment in Northwest Oregon. I looked at him online and his picture seemed like he was pleasant but he gave no reason for the swelling of my cornea and prescribed eye drops to reduce swelling. He was rude. When I asked how long I would need to use the eye drops, rather than answer, he very curtly lectured me on how there is no quick fix for corneas. He finally said to continue the drops until my next appointment in six weeks. He then said that the fix was either Sclera contacts or corneal transplant. During my next appointment he just said to continue the drops. When I got back to Michigan I was referred by my optometrist to a corneal specialist who diagnosed that I had a condition known as Fuch Dystrophy. A condition when the cells die on the inside of the cornea that control the amount of fluid in the eye. The only correction was corneal transplant. I just wish I had checked Yelp before seeing Burris but I trusted the Costco optometrist.

His wife was so sweet and understanding of my condition over the phone, seemingly. But I felt he lacked the skill to treat me because he was both unable and also unwilling to answer any questions, telling me he will discuss it next time. I am very well versed in my condition, more than most doctors, but I cannot treat myself obviously. He was unaware of the various new treatments and made it clear he didn't want to know either. I was called in half hour past my appt time. He looked at my eyes and told me absolutely nothing. He did though mumble loudly how I must have been a pain for other ophthalmologists. I felt so disrespected. He indicated this because I was unable to do the glaucoma test due to blinking. I already told him that I had it done 2 months ago and was OK on pressure. I told him that it's a hard test for me to do, nor had I taken anything that would increase my pressure the last couple months. Also, I was not there for glaucoma, it's a standard test they do. It made me sad to see so many elderly helpless patients (we're talking 80's and 90's here) sitting in the waiting room waiting for him, some with eye patches. Whose their voice, who watches out for them? I can't imagine driving either of my parents or any loved one here for their eye conditions knowing how badly I was made to feel. I told his office how I felt. I paid $255 of that $500 bill (insurance paid the rest), but I felt robbed of my money and my dignity.
