Dropped the ball would be an understatement. I was on their wait list for 2 months for a sleep study appointment that I desperately need (after evaluation from both my PCP and ENT). With only hours notice of my appointment (that I had already scheduled a pet sitter for) I was rescheduled due to the tech having an "emergency to 2 days later, and then a few hours before the rescheduled appointment they called and canceled my visit entirely because "their tech quit without notice". Seriously!?? You only have 1 tech for all of your patients? And no one else in the office is capable of performing this service? I was told my referral would be sent to two other hospitals in an attempt to expedite me and after over a week I have heard nothing from anyone and they didn't even notify my referring physician. I can't say I know much about their office environment because they never allowed me the opportunity to visit, but two things I do know: 1. Employees that are paid and managed appropriately don't just quit without notice. 2. Any manager that isn't able to come in to take over for an employee that has an "emergency" doesn't have any business in a management role. It's definitely not comforting to me in the slightest that my health is suffering needlessly due to their negligence in scheduling and managing their office. They seemed entirely too comfortable with wasting my time. I know options for this service are limited, but if you have the choice on providers for this service - I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. read more

All of my interactions with this place were bad. I was never able to get signed into their online portal, despite repeated calls for assistance. The doctor didn't really listen or care, and had really no advice for me about my chronic insomnia other than to just go to bed and hope for the best. I have been a patient at Oregon Sleep Associates for over a decade. I use the CPAP machine every time that I sleep, including naps. My life has improved, not just my sleep. Any person seeking diagnosis and treatment from OSA can enjoy the same transformation in their health. But you need to follow the regimen and use the CPAP machine. The doctor was on time even though I was early. He was generous with his time, kind in his encouragement to do better, and remembered details about my last appointment that were not in the record. Back in the day, I had office visits and now they've transitioned to video appointments very effectively (and that does save me a long trip downtown). No one likes to have sleep studies done. Having stated the obvious, this place is so welcoming! The staff are caring, compassionate, and understanding. I saw Dr. Kaanchan Gangal, she was amazing! She put me at ease within a few minutes, laughed with me agreed with me, and was very informative without being demanding or pushy. She genuinely made me feel she had my best interests in mind. After agreeing to do a 2 day home study I spoke with the tech (so very sorry I've forgotten his name) who explained how to attached the device and how it worked. After 2 nights, I returned the unit (it was a Friday) and ask if a tech could make sure the got data (meaning I did everything right), which I did. The front desk staff are friendly and caring and helpful. Making sure I had an appointment to get my results via phone video conference. Katie the PA, chatted with me giving me my results. She was also very nice, compassionate, and helpful. As it turned out I needed a c-pap machine and they set up a vendor for me. It all went so smoothly. Truly abysmal experience with Dr. Root and his back-office staff (Jeff) at Oregon Sleep Associates (though it should be noted that OSA's front-office ladies are very nice, indeed!). During my consult, Dr. Root told me that 1) an at-home sleep study would NOT diagnose the condition I likely had but an in-clinic study would and 2) an at-home sleep study was required to receive reimbursement for an in-clinic study through my insurance--the latter turned out to be **100% FALSE**. After being forced to squeeze into an incredibly small office space (during COVID!) only to be chastised by Jeff for failing to use the at-home equipment correctly, I left OSA's office in tears, and called Pacific Sleep instead. They confirmed that an at-home study was NOT required by my insurance assuming that the provider recommended it. In other words, all Dr. Root had to do was say to my insurance: I think she needs an in-clinic study to diagnose her condition (exactly what he told me at my consult). BEWARE OF OSA...they are doing their very best to bill for unnecessary tests and putting their patients through hell. read more

I got started with Dr. Root's practice 11 years ago, where they discovered through an in-clinic sleep study that I had sleep apnea. I was started on CPAP therapy then, and while I don't enjoy the therapy itself, I very much like this practice. I've dealt with 2 others in the intervening years, due to insurance changes, and didn't get the same level of followup and support. I'm returning now for a fresh sleep study to get me back on track. They were able to get me in very quickly compared to the 4-5 month wait at 2 other places I tried. Covid has been hard on medical practices of all types, so I was grateful to get in so quickly. Please, please, please, review your Insurance carefully before committing. I was mislead and informed about what to be covered and not. I ended up 4000 in debt due to not following thru with my homework on protection and insurance. I could have flown home to CA and got this study done for under 50 dollar co pay. Useless. First they sent me an in-home test that said I'm just below the threshold to obviously need a C-PAP. Well, I guess that's nice that I might not need one, but that doesn't tell me how to sleep any better. We discussed options and decided the next step is for me to do an overnight lab sleep study. I kept calling back to schedule, with no response. Finally after over a month, on March 30 I got someone on the phone who said they're too busy, and they'll ask Providence Hospital to call me to schedule a lab sleep study. 2 weeks later, still haven't heard from anyone. read more

I consulted Dr Root for insomnia and sleep apnea. I like him a lot. He knows what to do, he is straight forward and kind, and has a good team working with him. He seems to have a solid knowledge of his specialty and a desire to do a good job. I'm a nurse with 30 years of hospital experience, and I can spot a goofy doc. He is not that. I had a great experience with Oregon Sleep Associates. Scheduling was very smooth, and they even made great accommodations when I had to cancel last-minute to reschedule. I was seen quickly/promptly, and I felt like Dr. Root genuinely listened to my appraisal of my unique situation, including what I hoped to accomplish by seeing him. He seemed very knowledgeable, but not in the "I am a doctor and know everything, so you should listen to me" way. It was more of a "Hey, I've done a lot of work in this area and, even though you are unique, I've seen a lot of similar cases, and I can help you." Due to a change in my insurance, I won't be able to return to Dr. Root for a sleep study, but if my insurance stayed the same, I would return to Dr. Root to continue working on my health. read more

The doctors are super nice - as is Jason who helps with the CPAP. The night "nurse" is more like Nurse Ratchett. Also the front desk staff is not warm or fuzzy. If I could go lower I would. If you are one of the 14% of Americans that can sleep on your back all night then these guys might be able to help you. If you are the 86% of us that sleep on our sides or stomach these guys are a waste of time and money. When I called to set an appointment I told the receptionist "I am a stomach sleeper and I do not want to come there if all you have to offer are CPAP machines." I was told "our doctors have many options." They sent me a questionnaire which I spent 2 hours filling out. I went into the exam room and a medical assistant took my blood pressure. Then "Dr. Gangal" came in. She spent less than 5 minutes going over my questionnaire.Then told me I needed a CPAP machine. I told I couldn't use a CPAP because I am a stomach sleeper. She looked puzzled. She said " the masks are very comfortable. "Not if you sleep on your stomach" I replied. She looked puzzled again. "Well the machines are only $2900 to $3500 now." I replied "I don't care how much they cost they won't work for me." Again she looked confused, "we can help you finance whatever your insurance doesn't pay." At this point I was agitated and told her, " this is a waste of time, I am leaving." Then she said "well maybe we should do a sleep study?" On the way out they told me a sleep study would be $500 cash or they could charge my credit card. I was in the exam room less than 15 minutes. They made me pay $25 up front. My insurance company paid them about $100. 4 weeks later I got a bill for $398. When I called up to find out what the charges were for no one could tell me. When I spoke to David the office manager I found out that they do not offer recommendations for surgery or offer mouth pieces. When I told him that I had told the receptionist I didn't want to make an appointment if they only offered CPAP machines he glibly responded, "our receptionist does not diagnose patients." I found the response interesting it seems to indicate that I am not the first person to have this issue with them. I asked for a detailed break down of the charges. They sent me a bill for "Consultation Services" and lowered the charges to $298. I called and talked to David again and he laughed at me an told me "It's only $298." I replied "you guys didn't do anything to earn this $298 other than lie to me about the services you offered and use you exam room as a high pressure sales floor." I told him that if he could provide me a detailed break down of why I was being charged $298 I would pay it. I heard nothing for 6 months and last Wednesday I got a collections notice from Metro Area Collections Services. Avoid these people like the plague. read more

I've been going here for a few years. Did a sleep study and saw Dr Root and his staff. All went well and I was prescribed aids that were very helpful. Recently a piece of equipment failed on the weekend and the doctor on call (Dr Gangal) went to significant trouble to make sure I was taken care of even though their office was closed. My appointment with Dr. Kim went fine. She was pleasant and easy to work with. Unfortunately the staff neglected to submit my prescription to my insurance provider. This failure cost me over $1000 in insurance benefits because I entered a new benefit year and my huge deductible zeroed out. Towards the end of 2016, I recently had a heart operation and my old CPAP machine started to fail. I needed to get a new CPAP as quickly as possible before the start of the new year. I called all the other sleep centers and they were booked 3 months out. All hope was lost until I called the fine people at Oregon Sleep Associates. Not only did they squeeze me into their busy schedule in to see Dr. Root, but they also made sure my insurance company was happy and had all the proper paperwork. Dr Rooy is incompetent. He conducts superficial intake interviews and fails to read the data on the CPAP. He cost me two years of treatment. Two other doctors immediately saw the problem in the cpap data where Dr Root could not. Complaints about mouthy leak and drooling into the mask were ignored. No chin straps were offered though that would be standard for this problem. The machine was never calibrated properly despite many complaints and adjustments. I was left in my own. No further sleep studies to address these problems were conducted. The Dr was very dismissive toward me and repeatedly sent me out for psychological therapy instead of working with the CPAP. This continued even though therapy was shown ineffective because the doctor failed to loaves when in the sleep cycle my apnea and mouth leak occurred. You will be better off with any other doctor. This guy's overconfidence is stunning. My dog gets better care. Repeated efforts to get releases so I could get my records from Dr Root were ignored. Stay away. read more
