I already knew before I even got started that I needed surgery, but I still had to go through FIVE appointments just to get the surgery scheduled. This stretched out for well over a month, with me being in pain the whole time. Every time I needed an appointment, I had to call them, talk my way past a useless robot, and then get put on hold for an obscenely long time. Then at the office, they kept me waiting 30-60 minutes past my scheduled appointment time every time. Maybe your office wouldn't be so hopelessly swamped if you didn't force people to go through a ridiculous number of unnecessary appointments. When I finally got the surgery scheduled, I had to go to a hospital very far away in Oregon City, even though there are plenty of closer options, and communication on the day before the surgery was not as clear as it should have been. On the day of the procedure, I was forced to wait outside in the cold and then walk a long distance around the outside of the hospital, while starving, all because of blatantly wrong signage on the hospital. After the surgery, they referred me to physical therapy, who refused to take my insurance even though it is a division of the same company, forcing me to enter another round of phone tag and ultimately figure PT out on my own. They gave me a brace with pads that fall off way too easily, and told me that I was required to wear it everywhere at all times. Well surprise surprise, some of the pads got lost. When I called them to ask for help replacing the pads, they were unable to help, leaving metal digging directly into my skin. I ultimately had to remake the pads myself using supplies from a crafts store. They also failed to provide me with the crutches I needed, and I had to supply my own. I needed multiple doctor's notes for my work and for the Employment Office. Are you sitting down? ROC charges you $30 every time you need a note. My insurance already paid them over $60,000, but why miss yet another opportunity to nickel-and-dime patients and kick us when we are down? I think this is disgusting and greedy (although it is not illegal). ROC subjected me to every hassle they possibly can. This experience was extremely stressful, and the whole process could have been completed in just the time it took for the surgery to be scheduled.

I was dreading making an appointment with a specialist before calling sports medicine Oregon. To my surprise making the appointment online was incredibly easy and I was able to complete everything without any need to call and speak to anybody. That was awesome! I don't have a lot of time in my day to call and go through the endless back-and-forth of trying to find a date which works. Of course with any medical provider the equality of service is the most important piece. I felt as if the doctor took the time to understand my problem and to learn what activities I wanted to get back to that I wasn't able to. He suggested physical therapy exercises that I may not have tried before and quickly made a referral to get an MRI after I told him all of the different things I had tried before coming to see them. While no one wants to go see a doctor, if you do need to see a sports medicine doctor, this is the place to go.

He has done 2 surgeries on my shoulder and will be reconstructing my ankle. He is a wonderful surgeon that explains things, although if you do not ask questions he will assume you know what he is talking about. So people he is not a mind reader, you need to ask questions. Dr. Keenen listened to my history and my concerns. He presented the options clearly and made sure I understood, for the first time, the risks and benefits of each. He presented a timeline of events post surgery. He used my MRI, back models of spinal fusion and video to explain the procedure. I decided to move forward with the spinal fusion in November 2017. Too young for knee replacements, Dr. Wilson treated me for years with steroid injections and referrals for PT. When my left knee finally went out in 2013 and the right knee in 2015, Dr. Nanson was my surgeon as Dr. Wilson was no longer doing surgery. The transition of care was seamless. Having a medical condition that is now well known, I made sure to bring information to Dr. Nanson who read up on the condition, and with the asstance of a wound care expert, took special precautions that he later incorporated into all surgical recoveries. When I recently started having severe hip pain limiting my mobility, and my shoulder tendinitis decided to join the pain party, I didn't hesitate to seek assistance from Orthopedics NW. While we are still trying to identify the source of hip pain, the doctors and PAs I have seen have provided the same level of personal care and compassion. Xrays and MRIs will hopefully lead to a diagnosis and a path to regain my mobility and end the pain. My shoulder was far easier to resolve, the steroid injection gave my shoulder the relief it needed, calming the area and reducing the inflammation. The front office is as kind and efficient as the pool of doctors. Knowing my pain level, they not only sent the MRI referral immediately following my appointment, they called the facility to verify it was received. Then called me to let me know I didn't have to wait, that I could call Rayus to schedule. Had MRI appointment scheduled within an hour if my doctor visit. That is rare! Sure hoping another surgery isn't in my future - I am already bionic enough - but if it's required, I know Dr. Nanson will perform the surgery with the same precision and post surgical care as the other two surgeries. My fiancé was hurt on the job almost 2 years ago now and after having surgery and having part of his muscle in his leg removed because of a fall at work causing compartment syndrome. His employer did not have insurance for workers comp so we are now dealing with the assigned insurance company! Back to the physicians assistant, She took her time to look over my fiancé and explained what was going on with him and was the first person to make any sense of his injury or even seemed to care since his accident. She gave my boyfriend a referral to physical therapy (that was signed by the doctor because she believed he needed it) and a work limitations note and made a follow up. She was amazing and we felt great about going back and finally getting the help my fiancé needed for his leg. A week later my fiancé went to his follow up with the doctor and the doctor was unpleasant and rude. He didn't look over my fiancé at all, just went off of old notes from Drs that were hired from an insurance company through workmans comp and ignored his PA's notes. He told my fiancé he was fine and just needed to deal with it and he would not do surgery (which we never wanted in the first place. The doctor was with my fiancé for about 15mins and that was it. After having such a positive experience with the physicians assistant we really believed in this practice but now I believe it to just be one to work with insurance companies and not help the people who are really in pain or having serious problems that occurred through a work related injury. This doctor is not someone I would ever recommend for helping people, he is in it to only help the insurance companies.

Getting a total knee replaced is a serious decision, one which I did not take lightly. Being…read morerelatively new to the Portland area (we moved here in 2012) I did not have a good feeling for which orthopedist to consider. I started asking around and one name that came up again and again was, Orthopedics Northwest and Dr. Scott Grewe. So I did a little more research and decided to see if he would take my case. I had degenerative arthritis of both knees, originally diagnosed in 2010, with the left knee being the worst. It took a couple months to get an appointment, but it was clear on my first visit that a total knee replacement was indicated. We set a surgery date. His physician's assistant Scott Byers did the preoperative teaching. As a healthcare worker I provided and witnessed a lot of preoperative teaching. Scott's was the BEST I have ever heard. I knew exactly what was going to happen in the operating room, I knew exactly how my pain was going to be controlled, and I knew exactly what was expected of me. My surgery went very well with absolutely no complications. Using their pain control plan, I was off the narcotics in about 14 days, using only Tylenol and Aleve to control the pain. My physical therapy course went well. So well, that at 6 weeks post-op I scheduled my right knee with Dr. Grewe. The right knee surgery went just as well as the left. Left knee was done April 11th, right knee was done July 11th. The pain I had before surgery is GONE! I am knocking the rust off my golf game and building my walking stamina. If you are looking for a terrific orthopedic team, Orthopedics Northwest, Dr. Scott Grewe, PA Scott Byers and their assistant Nancy are THE ONES YOU WANT!!!!!
