This review is long overdue. I went to Oretta last Friday and I was utterly disappointed, considering how many "good" reviews they had online. My friend and I decided to go to Oretta after discovering the restaurant we initially wanted to eat at was closed. The decision was made in less than five seconds in our Uber ride so we didn't have enough time to think it through. Plus we both hadn't been to Oretta and wanted to give them a chance. On our way to the restaurant, I called and made a reservation and the woman who answered the call said there was​​ a table for us. At the door, we were greeted by waitstaffs and directed to our table; a table at the entrance of the door which was cold and we could hear and see every new customer walking into the door or leaving. We noticed a much better table and asked the waitstaff if we could sit there. She asked her other colleagues and they denied our request saying a customer was coming in a few minutes​. There were also quite a number of seat​s available that evening. Still, we didn't let it get to us even though we were very unsatisfied. Throughout our meal, the waitstaffs at the door were so unprofessional. Loud, gisting and talking about personal matter instead of doing their job. One hour later, the table we asked for still wasn't filled. And even though we paid for our meal, I was still very disappointed. We decided to use the washroom before leaving and discovered the top floor with eye-catching decor with beautiful bright lights and lit candles. We asked the person who happened to be the supervisor if it was okay if we could take pictures there and she smiled and said sure. Only for us to overhear a waitstaff ask her what to do on their way out and she told them to switch off the lights. We were in the dark the entire time and felt ashamed walking out of there. Passive aggressiveness much? Weird how my friend and I were discussing that if we just happened to be public figures like Rihanna or Beyonce, would the treatment still be the ​same? Companies really need to train their workers because selective customer service will affect the bottom-line. It is 2019, treat customers equally. The food was good but not good enough for me to go back and withstand such rubbish they call customer service. I'm taking my business elsewhere and if anyone asks​ me about Oretta, I will give them my honest opinion; that Oretta sucks and it doesn't care about its customers. read more

Went out to this restaurant this past weekend for a friends birthday. We had a larger group of people (10+) and had reservations made well in advance. From the very start we had issues with the service, drinks were constantly wrong/mixed up/forgotten. The average time it took to receive our drinks after ordering it was 15 minutes+. For something and simple as their on draft Peroni this should not be the case. Upon asking for our bills at the end of our meal, it took over 45 minutes to get, and we had to remind our waitress multiple times to bring them out. No surprise that in addition to the long wait most of the bills were miss charged. It is a shame that the service was so poor, the food at the restaurant was good, but is not worth suffering through their non existent service. read more

Oretta is a beautiful restaurant on trendy King west with delicious Italian food. The interior is absolutely gorgeous and a total feast for the eyes, but the food experience I had here was equally impressive. My girlfriends and I decided to share a few starters and were loved the meatballs, burrata and calamari. The pizza and pasta were executed well, but for me the star of the show was the dessert: the chestnut zeppole. Don't miss out on the bomboloni at the Oretta cafe. read more

Agree with most of the sentiments here - beautiful decor (bold tropical deco very different than the narrow wood table/Edison light aesthetic that populates this part of town) but very mediocre food. My friend and I had instantly forgettable seafood pasta, buffalo mozzarella with pickled vegetables (the combo really didn't work, the classic buffalo mozzarella with tomato and basil would have worked so much better), tepid ravioli. The chestnut cream donut for dessert was the only decent dish. On the plus side, service was wonderful and accommodating with a baby and stroller. The cocktails we had with prosecco and pear purée were very nicely done as well. But for a $135 lunch the food really fell flat. Would not return without a dramatic food re-invention. read more

Great, great place for casual yet chic dining experience. This restaurant is my vibe 100%. Servers are dressed cute and very nice, management is exceptional. Food is great. I've been for dinner and brunch and must say, as good as dinner is, their brunch is BOMB. I go at least once a month for their scrambled eggs with truffles and burrata and their PANCAKES. We made a reservation for today, the place was nearly empty when we walked in, but the host told us that none of the booths was available. Consistency is key and at Oretta, the food and service will never disappoint. Not to mention, the ambiance/scene is surely one of the best in the city with all types of people dining within. As for food, I have eaten it all. To start, the Fritto Misto are always safe as well as the Carciofi e Tartufo -fried artichoke. Additionally, the salami and formaggi board is excellent for larger parties. For the pasta you really cannot go wrong - I have tried them all! Personally, the Chitarrina is my favorite although the ravioli, Pappardelle ragu are all exceptional. I must also note that while I do not know how popular the pizza is here - both the Capricciosa and margarita are delicious! Extremely tasty. All in all, Oretta provides a phenomenal scene with exceptional food/service and very, very affordable prices. read more

The saving grace for this place is the service. I had dinner there a few nights ago, and the food was bad. The calamari app was chewy, and under-seasoned. The presentation was all off - it looked like it came from a cheap pub. I had the lamb shoulder main. It was very fatty and underwhelming. It didn't wow me. My server however was amazing. So the two stars I'm giving are because the service was good. Although they did seem to be in a big hurry to feed us and get us out. And it wasn't even that busy. read more

I really liked Oretta! I was recently in the neighbourhood and decided to drop by. I had a latte that was DELICIOUS and a veggie panini that was really really good too! The place was clean, well lit and so cute. Not sure if they have wifi. The only thing I would say is that is does get quite busy during the weekdays past noon and I feel like they should staff more people. Friendly wait staff who are very knowledgeable about the menu and open to recommendations Starter of deep fried polenta and deep fried artichoke with truffle sauce amazing taste and presentation. We went here for a family birthday and were happy with our experience. The staff were very friendly and the food was good (although not out of this world). We shared apps - shaved brussel sprouts, pizza, carrots and the beet salad. All were good - the pizza was especially delicious. Everyone had a mix of the fish (both types), lamb and spaghetti. I've been a long-time Yelp-lurker, but this will be my first restaurant review. I was anxiously awaiting the opening of Oretta and felt compelled to write a review after having a fantastic dining experience. As soon as you walk in, you can't help but notice the beautiful bar - it truly is the focal point of the whole venue. I love how the restaurant is divided into different sections. There's a section for large groups, small groups, a romantic date, a work function, and even a to-go area. Very smart and well thought out. Everything has a purpose. Now onto the food... Started with the charcuterie board. Came with salumi, prosciutto, compote and some pickeled veggies. Bread was not included ($5) but was worth the extra cost (came with focaccia and bread sticks). Everything was fresh and flavorful. Wife ordered a chinotto (imported from Italy) and I got cocktail. The bar just isn't pretty to look at - they make some damn good drinks. And my wife loves how they have authentic chinotto from Italy - hard to find!! I tried to order a little of everything, so my wife and I ordered a pizza (Parmigianna), a pasta (venison ragu) and main (Arctic char with veggies and potatoes). The dough of the pizza was on point - better than Libretto, which has been tasting like naan to me lately. The ragu had tons of flavor - not gamey, just plain delicious. Excellent portion too. The fish was perfectly cooked and came with an eclectic variety of veggies in season. For dessert, we ordered the tiramisu and the zeppole. Again, portions were a good size and if I had the room, I would have ordered another 3 of those zeppoles. Pastry was fresh and the chestnut cream was a welcomed change from the regular vanilla. Portions were on par or better than other Italian restaurants in the area. Prices were also very competitive for being on King West. What I love the most is that the menu is accessible. Oretta already feels like my new neighbourhood destination on King West, the service is friendly, and knowledgable and the food is even better! The beautiful arched ceilings and art deco colour infused decor is just an added bonus. We dined upstairs one night in their private dining space and it was an experience to top most! We decided to order a few items to share, the venison ragu which melts in your mouth, the cavoletti salad with the seared trout on top, the cappriciosa pizza with artichoke and prosciutto, the swordfish carpaccio, the beef tartar, and the carrot stuffed hazelnut ravioli. Their wine list is also very extensive and the bartenders can make some dynamic signature cocktails. Awful experience !!! our first time , we have been to Capocaccia ( same owner Salvatore) many many times .. so we were excited to try his new restaurant . Oh BOY !!! Loud, noisy , poorly chosen music .... the pane & olio ... it's a strange spinach chewy "out of the microwave" loaf with an unbearable salty oil "mousse" (?) Pizza marinara is so salty that the only way to eat it is to put the anchovies aside. Fritto misto ... soggy cold and chewy ... the cheapest wine (a very mediocre Montepulciano d'Abruzzo ) starts at 50$ .... but the cherry on the cake (!) .. the service ..... our waitress .. when asked to explain a dish she replied " i don't make the menu" . She came around a number of times and looking at us holding a fork over our half full plates would say " are you still working on that .. can I take it ? " .. 5 minutes later : " are you still working on that ? " our dirty looks didn t discourage her perseverance... ALAS !!! I wonder if failing to add a tip made her click later on !!! read more

This place SUCKS! I walked by one day and they were offering complimentary pizza slices. I was told they hired the best pizza maker in the city. Meanwhile the pizza was bland and the crust was rock hard, I had a couple of bites and threw the rest in the trash. But I still decided to give the place another shot and took my folks for lunch. They charge $5 for bread/breadsticks and claim they don't have butter nor olive oil. The bread they served was stale. I ordered a coffee but they don't carry cream! Like wtf? I ordered pasta and was not offered parmesan cheese! The pasta was cold too! Our initial waitress was brutal. After mentioning this to the manager, she was replaced with someone a lot friendlier and the service was better. Overall, Oretta was a terrible experience and would never go back. With Gusto, Masseria and Buca located in the vicinity, I doubt this restaurant will have any success. Total bush league operation. read more

I had dinner this week for the first time as a work function and we had the private upstairs room. It is a beautifully decorated venue. The staff was amazing!! Very friendly and not pretentious. They were on the ball from opening doors to filling glasses with a smile. The food was delicious. We had the charcuterie board, pizza and meatballs which was all very delicious. Then I had the ricotta/mushroom/ truffle oil ravioli which had a wonderful mushroom flavour and just the right amount of salty-ness- so good. This is an odd place. Located on King, you'd think this would be a very luxe, high end establishment where you might meet the Queen, or like...Billy Dee Williams. But it isn't really that fancy. Oretta is the kind of restaurant where people who think they have a lot of money go to flaunt but it's like c'mon Steve; you're like upper middle class at best. Anyway, I went here for a work dinner with a large group and the staff were very friendly. I ordered ravioli and some apps and a dessert and everything was alright but not spectacular. To me it's not fair to charge so much for food that is ultimately just okay. Like all restaurants, I had hoped that they would be more mindful of including vegan options; perhaps something they can work on. The decor inside was cool but I just couldn't get over this almost faux high-end experience they were offering. I noticed a couple of families seated around and I feel like that's probably the type of group that would really enjoy Oretta. Overall, a good experience but nothing that would compel me to recommend it over other places. read more

My fiancé and I visit Oretta regularly. Interior décor is absolutely beautiful; a mix of modern contemporary with a side kick of French. The staff is very polite and make you feel comfortable the minute you walk in. The crowd is typically young professionals; hence, the place is perfect even for networking or just a normal night out. We have tried most of the items in the menu and loved every single one of them. Oretta is definitely one of our favorite restaurants from a food quality, decor, service and price perspective. In addition, they also have a space upstairs which could be used for private events and we just received confirmation to hold my wedding shower there. Truly such a terrible and disappointing experience at Oretta for my friends birthday. After waiting an hour and a half for our first round of drinks and appetizers, we received all our food at once, and finally received our drinks 30 minutes after our food arrived. Our whole party understood that it was a Friday night and the restaurant was extremely busy, and knew it was not our servers fault, however we couldn't help but feel disappointed since we were celebrating a special birthday. We ensured the waitress that we were extremely full and didn't care for anymore drinks, however the manager still came out with champagne for all of us. This was extremely kind and generous, however at this point in the night, we didn't care for any more drinks, and most of the champagne was left untouched at the table. A girl in our party asked if she could order a dessert, and immediately without being asked, the waitress told her that the dessert would not be taken care of since we had already received complimentary champagne. No one in our party was looking to get free stuff, but in hindsight, a free birthday dessert or comped drinks would have gone a long way from the restaurant. Disappointed with our whole experience and how we were treated, I asked to speak to the manager after we had all paid. I can honestly say I have never had anyone speak to me the way the manager at Oretta did. I understand that it was a busy night for her and that we were a big party, but the goal of anyone in the hospitality industry is to take care of their guest. Last night we took my mother in law out for a family dinner. We couldn't wipe the smile off her face. The service was impeccable and the food exquisite. We dined like Kings. The Cavoletti salad was a taste explosion ... the porcini gnocchi were heavenly ... the branzino fish was perfectly grilled, and don't get me going on the dessert! I had high hopes going for dinner at Oretta. The interior truly is beautiful. However, the food was entirely disappointing. We ordered some appetizers, all of which were disappointing, especially the fritto misto, which was all broken up, with many pieces of deep fried breading. The pasta I ordered (tomato sauce with straciatella) was extremely al dente. As an Italian, I'm used to having pasta al dente, however, this pasta was hard and almost inedible. The sauce was bland and unappealing. Everyone sitting at my table had meals they were also disappointed with. Almost everything was left untouched. The bill was almost $100 per person including some drinks and was absolutely NOT worth it. I would much rather frequent Terroni, Campanoglo or even Vesuvios for better Italian in this city. This was one of the worst dining experiences that I have ever had. We had a reservation for my friend's birthday, but didn't get our table for 30min. The hostess offered to let us get drinks at the bar while we waited, but the service was so slow that only one person actually managed to order a drink. Once we were finally seated, the extremely slow service continued for both drinks and food. It took over an hour from when we were seated (over 90min from our original reservation) to get an appetizer. Once the food arrived, it was basic at best. I spoke to our waiter, as well as the manager, who gave me a non-apology. Absolutely terrible service top to bottom. read more

It's been almost three weeks, I've spoken to management and staff on more than 5 occasions and STILL haven't been refunded!!!!
