This is a nice Italian restaurant. My husband was planning to bring me here for Valentine dinner, however, they were fully booked. We totally understood. It was not so big, but really grand and cozy. We should say it belonged to the high end restaurant. We came in for Sunday lunch, a day after the Valentine's Day. The menu goes back to regular menu, but they do have Lunch Special (1 half size of App, 1 main & 1 dessert) for $39/person. Since we were not really hungry, we order 1 lunch special to share. We chose the Calamari Fritti as Appetizer, The Fun Guy pizza as main, and Tiramisu as dessert. Deep fried calamari was small size with some zucchini, and spicy mayo sauce on the side. The pizza was great taste, not too salty, and I loved it because it was creamy, however, I felt that's vegetarian pizza, and a bit overcooked. A lot of it was burnt. The Tiramisu was in the cup, my little girl has nuts allergy, so the server gave us a cup of mango ice cream on the house. They were getting busy around 1pm. Venue 3.5/5 Difficult to find parking nearby, street or green P garage down the road. It is accessible however as they have a double door. Inside feels a bit dated, but adds to the heritage as it's been in the neighbourhood for quite some time. They have a giant mirror wall and floral wallpaper along with the patio for the warmer weather. Service 5/5 Came here for a birthday dinner when we arrived we had a table we requested and later on the private room was open so our server was able to accommodate our switch into the private room. very attentive and recommendations of dishes. The food came out quickly too as per our request and there were frequent check ins for things such as: cheese, water, how the food was tasting, if we wanted anything else. We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer along with the pizza to share before our mains, which was the ribeye and the lobster casarecce came out . Food 5/5 The meatballs were great you can tell they're freshly made and seasoned perfectly. The lobster pasta was a good companion to the ribeye steak. The steak also came with the side of potatoes that were sautéed very well. The steak was a little bit over seasoned, but it was still juicy nonetheless. We ordered the hot rod pizza as we wanted some spice. It wasn't too spicy so most non spicy eaters can tolerate it. Instead of traditional tiramisu, we got the coconut cream cake for dessert and that one had the flavours explode in your mouth. **Other** There was actually a fight that escalated into some yelling and hostility between a party in the restaurant, and the staff handled that perfectly and professionally. They gave us a glass of complimentary champagne because we had to wait. They also gave us complementary dessert because of the wait I believe the service was not the best. They were very busy. It was a Friday night, and it was also very loud and Chattery. Lots of large parties celebrating events. The food was also so so, not mind blowing. Pizza was a little dry, the pasta was good. The food I would give a one-star I'm giving you a two star because the two servers that I had over very nice and accommodating I visited on a Saturday for lunch I did there $36 lunch special that gets you half an appetizer one main that can be either pizza or pasta and one dessert that could either be ice cream or tiramisu I started off with a espresso Martini I asked for cream on the side and the bartender said she can make it with Bailey's instead of kahlua and I said sure she told me that you know it may taste sweet when I got the espresso it was so bitter it tasted like espresso and vodka it was not good it was not sweet they did try and help by giving me simple syrup but it just was not a good! For my appetizer I got the burrata that came with a slice of bread and grilled grapes. The burrata was quite bland it had no flavor at all I felt like maybe some salt would have helped to bring out the flavor of the cheese but it was quite bland. For my main I ended up getting the mushroom pasta option because they said that shortly after opening they ran out of the ravioli as well as the rigatoni. The pasta was hard chewy and dense and the sauce was extremely bland I did add parmesan chili oil and chili flakes to try and help with flavor and because the texture of the pasta was just not quite right I just ate the mushrooms and let them know that it was not good pasta In the end they did remove the pasta off of my bill and I decided I did not want to try the dessert because almost everything that I had tasted was awful and I didn't care to continue with that experience. my friends did get calamari for their appetizer and I did try the calamari the calamari was good and that's the only thing I had at the restaurant that I could say actually had flavor and tasted good read more

What a lovely and homey restaurant! The server kept calling us madam and sir, which was nice and different, but very professional. We came as a group of 12 with a reservation and we were seated quickly. We pushed a few tables together because there was an awkward gap. We were recommended to get the family style meal which would include a lot of different courses to try. I've heard some polarizing opinions on Piano Piano prior to dining with them recently. We made a same day reservation on Resy for an earlier Saturday dinner and was pretty hassle free. They have a coat rack up front you can leave your outerwear at but I preferred to just drape mine over the chair. FOOD (4/5) We ordered the Calamari Fritti as a starter, with Mushroom Cavatelli and Sweet Hornet pizza as entrees. The calamari is served with crispy artichokes and an aioli dip. The batter was super light, crispy, flavourful. The artichoke was an interesting changeup compared to standard calamari dishes which is all squid. The aioli was quite zesty and paired well, but I found the batter was well seasoned enough that it wasn't required. The Mushroom Cavatelli looked like a small dish at first, but proved to be quite a lot of food. The sauce was really decadent and fragrant with a truffle taste/scent. The pasta was a bit too al dente for our liking but was delicious nonetheless. Highly recommend! The Sweet Hornet pizza was a great choice that is served with honey and soppressata which provides a nice sweet/salty/spicy combo that works well. There are olives as well which adds a punch of salty brine flavour which can be easily picked off if not wanted. The pizza comes with a pair of scissors which makes cutting so much easier compared to a fork and knife. I must say the center of the pie was a bit thin on dough so got soggy very quick. Overall, great pizza and waitress recommended also adding bacon. DRINKS (3.5/5) We ordered the Piano Piano Spritz and a glass of prosecco. The spritz was light and had a hint of sweetness and paired well with the food. The prosecco was pretty standard and was great. AMBIENCE (4.5/5) The decor was all cohesive and felt like an upscaled diner with modern European inspired design. The entrace was draped by a set of curtains which opens up to the bar and the dining room at the back. It felt simultaneously upscaled and home-y. SERVICE (4/5) Generally speaking the waitresses/waiters were all really helpful and polite. It did feel a bit towards the end that they were trying a bit too hard to convince to get dessert even though we were stuffed. But otherwise, no complaints. ACCESSIBILITY (2/5) This location is directly on Mount Pleasant a bit south of Eglinton. It doesn't seem like it is an easy commute from a subway station. By car, it is a bit of a challenge to find parking but we managed to find street parking on the street/neighbourhood just west of Piano Piano. PRICE (3/5) With most restaurants in midtown, the ambience and quality of food warrants a bit of a markup in price. I think most of the prices were justified relative to other restaurants in Toronto especially with the amount of good food that is provided. Overall, I think Piano Piano is a solid restaurant to have in a rotation of good Italian food with nice vibes. A bit unfortunate it isn't as accessible but I think the food makes up for it. Get the meatball pasta - cooked to perfection, flavoured amazingly well, and will not disappoint. I also loved the kale salad and the olive +pepperoni pizza, both were a close second place to the meatball pasta. Service is good as server checked in a few times with our bigger group. The atmosphere was lovely, and contrary to my assumption there is no live piano music here. The piano in the restaurant name refers to the Italian term for 'slow slow', and the story behind it is posted in their menu ;) I'll be back for the meatballs and kale salad for sure! Made a reservation here for my husbands birthday dinner (heard you needed to make a reso to get a table and if you want to eat before 8:30PM you really do!!). We ordered the Canestri alla Vodka and the Rigatoni & Meatballs - these are some of the best pasta dishes I have ever had! The portions are not overly large so you don't feel super full after but more like a very comfortable full which I enjoyed as there was no food coma! They really pay attention to the flavours of their sauces, the Canestri was very creamy with a very slight heat, the Rigatoni sauce blended so well with their pork and beef meatballs. We also ordered some drinks: one of the specials that had gin and blueberry in it, and the Costal Drifter which was pink and strong! This popular Italian restaurant was recommended by my sister. We came here to celebrate her birthday. Reservations for groups of 6 or more require you to give your credit card. If you don't show up, they will charge $25 /person. The place wasn't packed yet, but as soon we hit dinner hour around 7 pm - 8:30 pm, it was completely full. There are seats on the patio available, but it was chilly to tonight. The server was nice, and she greeted us and asked us if it was our first time here or not. That's a great way to open a conversation with your guests, and I appreciated that. She also answered our questions about the family style dinner $65 / person. Since we had some specific dietary preferences, we just ordered off the menu. The menus are very cute and made into a fold up newspaper with headlines to guide your eyes around it. It's a Great looking menu! Now for the food. We ordered some appetizers and snacks to share. The proscoutto crudo was fresh and delicious. Nice sweet grapes served on top along with some grated Parmigiano. I didn't try the shrimp cocktail $13, but there were 4 large tiger shrimps served on a martini glass. My nephew enjoyed it. The calamari fritti had a nice dipping sauce, but for $19, it was a little bit overpriced for the portion size. Spicy Manila clams $14 were served on top of a foccacia bread. The sauce wasn't overpowering or spicy. The clam meat seemed to be miniature size, but the taste was on point. I ordered the Chicken Piccata $32. It was a lightly breaded chickn breast topped with arugula, and the sauce had a hint of lemon, garlic, capers, and parmesan. I loved soaking up the fried chicken in the sauce. Very well executed dish! My wife ordered the roasted seabass $32. This was served with manila clams, chopped potato cioppino. The seabass was fileted and had a nice crispy skin, and the meat was cooked perfectly. Another well presented dish! My brother's Veal Parmesan is $36, which was massive. The long tbone made the dish stand out. If you are a carnivore with a big appetite, this would be the go-to dish. The other dishes looked appealing. My nephew did note that the meatball in the rigatoni dish was a bit on the dry side. Maybe Nona had the day off on Thursday. The desserts were pretty good. I like the Nutellla Tiramisu and chocolate caramel budino. The soft serve was nothing special. Service was great, and the server even brought a sparkling candle to accompany our desserts for my sister's bday. Very nice touch. Now, a few things that need improvement. Our table had a few annoying fruit flies that kept flying around our food and drinks. This place is super loud when it's full. The acoustics and soundproofing of the walls reduce the noise bouncing off the walls. If you're looking for a romantic place to have a date and casual conversation, then look elsewhere or plan to eat here quickly and relocate to a lounge or cafe for a night cap. Went here for the $34 prix fixe lunch. I've only been here once before years ago and it was at the location on Harbord. This one seems a bit smaller compared to the other location. Prices have obviously increased but $34 for a 3 course still ain't too bad. For apps, we ordered the burrata con fungi and the prosciutto Cudo. Both were really good. The server recommended adding bread for the prosciutto which we did once we saw how big the portion was. It was a good recommendation that I hope they just include it as part of the dish (cost an extra $2). Feels like it completes the dish. For the mains, we got the mushroom cavateli and sweet hornet pizza. Both dishes were good. Not a huge fan of cavatelli in general but if you are, then the overall flavours are nice here. I wanted to try a different flavour profile for pizza but wasn't a huge fan of the sweetness of the pizza. My mistake but it was still good. This plus the apps are more than enough! For dessert, they only offer the soft serve and the tiramisu in the prix fixe. Prob should've read the menu earlier but was really hoping to try the other dishes. The soft serve was a a vanilla/chocolate twist. It was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. Tasted like the twist soft serves at McDonald's. Too bad we had to end on that as kind of cheapened the meal. The tiramisu on the other had was decent. The servers were friendly and attentive, atmosphere was really nice and tables were spaced out due to covid. We felt safe and enjoyed the food and the overall experience. Between my friend and I, we ordered a the People's Champ pizza and the Egg Yolk Ravioli. I love how the pizza was really thin and the crust was perfect! Really really enjoyed piano piano. Everything was chef's kiss ranging from their service, atmosphere, food, cocktails, and wine. We came as a group of 6 and made reservations in advance. Highly recommend resos as it was a pretty full house when we arrived around 6:30pm on a Friday evening. We were seated in "the vault" which was definitely cozy for 6, thankfully we weren't too big because I could imagine taller & larger folks being quite cramped in there. But it was an enjoyable space along with tons of privacy! The food: We shared 2 pizzas as apps, the fun guy and sweet hornet. They were both delicious and flavourful, but definitely the fun guy was the winner We then each ordered pasta. I shared the mushroom cavatelli and egg yolk ravioli. The cavatelli was easily my fave. Pasta was cooked absolutely perfectly and I could've devoured the whole plate. I wasn't a huge fan of the egg yolk ravioli because the pasta around the edges was quite dry..but I get that you can't cook it long otherwise the yolk would scramble and not have the gooey goodness. The richness of the egg yolk ravioli is crazy. Brussel sprouts were recommended by the server and they were a smash. Definitely get them! Finally, dessert... Carrot cake is a must have and is large enough to share (hence the price). Tirimisu was pretty good, although I don't think there was any ladyfingers, but more creamy than anything. Would probably skip the lemon cheesecake as it wasn't a standout in my books. The cocktails were very good, and the rosemary Negroni was fantastic. Good wine selection as well. Last but not least, service was great. Our server was slightly on the talkative side, but it was sort of entertaining. I also must mention the price, surprisingly dining here did not cost an arm and a leg. The place is very nice and they don't completely milk you for your money. Great value IMO hence the 5 stars! Calamari was light and crispy. However, the portion was tiny. The aioli dish took up half the plate, so there were maybe a total of 5 pieces? Nothing unique about this dish. Main: Mushroom Cavatelli. This was the main reason why we came here! This is the easily the most popular dish at Piano Piano. The pasta was cooked to perfection and al dente just the way I like it. Although you don't see many mushrooms in the dish, it is completely infused into every bite as if you were eating a mouthful of mushrooms!!! The pasta is creamy and flavourful, topped with parmigiano (but you can also ask for more if you're crazy about cheese like me). My fiancé and I both ordered the same dish because when it tastes this good... there is no sharing LOL. Dessert Nutella Tiramisu. Perfect way to end the meal. Also a fan favourite. Not too sweet. Pasta - I got the Tortelli Bolognese - it was probably a 3.5/5 - pasta was cooked perfectly but the ricotta filling was on the salty side - and definitely over salted because I thought the whipped ricotta appetizer was perfectly seasoned. We got the Burrata Pomodoro ($19 plus extra for extra bread) to start which was delicious and in my opinion the highlight of the meal. Really good tomato-herb flavour and great burrata. 5/5 For the mains we got Mushroom Cavatelli ($26) and Rigatoni & Meatballs ($26). The cavatelli we agreed was decent but a too one-note and kinda bland for our palates. The pasta was nicely cooked though but they really skimped on the mushrooms. 3/5 The rigatoni was apparently good and the meatballs were cooked well. 5/5 For dessert we got the Carrot Cake for two ($19) and Nutella Tiramisu ($12). The carrot cake was quite spice-laden and well-made, and the cream cheese icing was nice. A little too spice-heavy for me so 4/5. The tiramisu was really good but quite sweet and didn't have enough ladyfingers in my opinion - too much cream not enough substance of the ladyfingers. 4/5 Service as an absolute 5/5 - our server came by often to refill our water, clear our plates, ask us how the food was, brought our bills promptly when asked and split them as we asked. Excellent service. Overall we decided we would not go again, even though it was a mostly good experience the food just didn't wow us enough to warrant going again. Just to keep it short and simple there are so many other much better Italian restaurants in the city. This wouldn't even rank top 10 Italian restaurants. The food itself was barely average. In fact most of the dishes came out - for an example the Parmesan veal the cheese was already hard when it came out not at all stretchy. The flavors were either too salty or under salted but overall still lacked flavor. The most underwhelming dish was probably the burrata. Had no flavor at all it was just a piece of cheese and toast plus roasted grapes?? The carrot cake dessert was overly sweet, it was just a plate of sugar. DESSERTS: 1/5 This part of the dinner was really disappointing. Who puts Nutella in Tiramisu? Seriously! Who the hell puts Nutella in Tiramisu? I'll tell you: NOBODY! Nutella is full of sugar and has no place in Tiramisu. Naturally, it was way too sweet and disappointing. Chocolate Caramel Banana Budino was not any better. Way too sweet and not worth $12. If you want to try a proper Tiramisu, go to Joso's at 202 Davenport Rd and try real Tiramisu. All desserts on the menu need to be completely revamped. Bottom line: Despite the friendly and courteous servers, this was my first and last trip to this restaurant. Food: Croquettes alla Vodka- These were incredibly delicious; crispy on the outside, soft and savory on the inside. The Fun Guy Pizza- A very generously portioned pizza. The presentation was the "it" factor as it came with an adorable gold pair of scissors to cut. Veal Parmesan- This dish was the absolute best. A large sized veal with bone, cooked to perfection. The Fior di latte and basil really enhanced the overall flavor. Potatoes Cacio e Pepe- This was a very large side dish. The potatoes were crispy, but they weren't particularly special. Rosemary negroni- Good drink, but perhaps a bit heavy on the rosemary. Basilico Mezcaldo- It was rimmed with very generic tajin which I was not a fan of, but a very smokey delicious drink. Service: We sat at the bar and received the best service. Everyone was incredibly attentive and kind despite the fact that it was mother's day and they were very busy. A cozy spot away from the lively dining room. I saw a mix of groups from girlfriends out for the evening to families enjoying a pizza. Great neighbourhood addition. Pumpkin triangles 5/5. The mix of savoury cheese and sage with the sweet pumpkin gets me every time. Roasted lemon cauliflower was both tangy but the sweet grapes cut the salt. My partner demolished his veal which was substantial and clearly intended for the hungriest of diners. I'd been meaning to check out Piano Piano for ages, but somehow just never got to it. An anniversary dinner seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally walk through their doors. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were quickly shown to a table near the back. I will say that my expectations for the meal dipped significantly at this point, since the table was really close to another one and we could perfectly hear the fairly loud diners next to us. It didn't help, either, that the person who sat us explained we'd have to be finished within two hours. I mean, we just sat down and you're already kicking us out? All was forgiven, though, after we were presented with two complimentary glasses of sparkling wine. That was an unexpected but really nice touch, and it definitely made me feel glad I checked that "anniversary" box when making the reservation. We decided to start with the Burrata Alla Campangnolo ("Roasted Grapes, Garlic, Maldon Salt, Toast") and it was definitely an impressive appetizer. The buttery, crispy toast was perfectly accompanied by the roasted grapes, but the burrata itself was obviously the star of the show. It was so creamy and flavorful, and it was enhanced by a distinct addition of rosemary. For my main, I went with the Bone-In Veal Parmesan (Fior di Latte, Tomato, Spicy Soppressata, Basil) and holy moly it was impressive. The veal itself was cooked perfectly, so it was super tender and flavorful. The plentiful cheese and soppressata definitely enhanced it, although by the time you get to the end, everything does become a little soggy. This is a small complaint for what was really a decadent and delicious entree. Finally, I decided to order the Brussels Fritti (Garlic, Chili, Parmigiano, Lemon) on the side and we were so full we were barely able to touch it. I brought most of it home, though, and ate it for breakfast and can confirm it's excellent. The brussels sprouts are cooked really well, and the various accompaniments enhance it completely. I was addicted to this. I suppose the one thing I will say about our experience is that, although the food was excellent, the service left a lot to be desired. Nobody checked in on us at any point, so we were unable to order any drinks beyond the complimentary glasses provided at the outset. And the food courses came fast and furious, to the point where it kind of felt like they were rushing us out of there. But that food... Oh, man. read more

Service is ok, none of the food is that great, had steak, 2 pastas and a pizza and it was all alright, nothing great but nothing terrible either. Just opened their 2nd location in mid-town (Mt Pleasant) and was so excited to try this place out! It's a bit small but wow...the inside is gorgeous! It looks like there will be a nice patio section once the warm weather hits! There is plenty of bar seating if you just want to grab something quick with a drink or 2, plenty of tables, and a private dining area (aka the vault) towards the back. The beautiful murals on the walls, the sparkly chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and the dim lighting make this a great place to impress a date, hang out with friends or just come enjoy the vibe by yourself! Now, the food. I will say, as someone who has a food restriction (pork), this lended itself to a heavier pork based menu, but I still found lots of options to choose from. We had: Calamari - this is some of the best I've had. Not rubbery at all, perfectly seasoned, every bite was delicious, with just a squeeze of lemon. I'd eat this every day Fungi pizza - um hello taste buds! Covered in arugula, the peppery taste went so well with the mushrooms. I'm told they make their own dough fresh every day, never frozen. It certainly a winner for me. Pumpkin pasta dish - the sweetness of the pumpkin with the sauce, garlic based, Parmesan...so good. Pasta cooked to perfection, just melt in your mouth yum. All staff were extremely friendly and always had a smile! As this is a just newly opened restaurant that is incredibly busy, do be prepared for service to be a bit slow until the normal kinks are worked out, which they will be for sure. No biggie, just thought I'd mention it so people are aware. My only one minor issue is that I don't like it when restaurants have really small area for the hostess at the front of the restaurant. More than 4-5 people waiting to be seated, you'll probably be standing outside lol . This is just my pet peeve, but it certainly won't stop me from coming back time and time again here! Food was alright. The pizza was amazing but the vodka pasta was just alright. Was wondering why the waitress kept refilling our water so obsessively until I saw the the $16 charge for the water... overall food was solid but feels ridiculous to pay just as much for water as I did for some of the food, especially without being told or asked. Love Piano Piano but very unhappy the first time I've ever paid for water was here. With so many great competitors just a moments away, it'll be tough to return, but who knows - maybe every Italian place on the block charges for water too. read more

We went here for my bday two weeks ago and sat on their outside patio (the little one on the side) and quite enjoyed it. The place has two patios, one small one and then one bigger one directly on Mount Pleasant (one section of that is theirs, and the other section is the restaurant next door's). We had the pasta Bolognese (for the toddler), the burrata which came with grapes, the brussel sprouts, The Sweet Hornet pizza (husband), and the mushroom cavatelli (for me). The burrata was amazing (like I can still convince myself I'm eating it right now in my mind it was so good) and the brussel sprouts were legit delish as well - like really, order this if you go! The mushroom cavatelli was totally solid - a bit al dente for my liking but the sauce was incredibly tasty. It didn't look like anything special but it sure did taste yummy. The pizza was also solid - really spicy though, which I guess from the title I should have known, but most places underwhelm with the spice and this was not our experience here . The combo of that spiciness with the sweetness of the honey was pretty fantastic, not gonna lie. The one dish that both my husband and I thought was entirely underwhelming was the pasta Bolognese (to my surprise). I LOVE me a good Bolognese but I wouldn't put this one in that category - my toddler took one bite and refused to eat more - it was bland with not much meat - so I would definitely forgo this dish on our next visit. In terms of service, my husband thought he could see why other reviews said it was lacking (I'm not sure anyone approached us during the meal to ask if we needed anything) but it didn't bother me at all as servers were always around and I could easily ask for the stuff we needed. So I guess depending on your personality, it may or may not bother you. The staff was really nice but a heads up that we never knew who our sever actually was. Not sure how they plan it out (maybe each person has a different task or something) but we had two or three people who served us over the course of the 1.5 hrs we were there. Again, didn't bother me but it was definitely noticeable and we were like ‍ Overall, we had a really good experience there. The food was overall quality, and I would go again. read more

My recent experience at this super stylish offshoot of the original Piano Piano (on Harbord) was just okay. We went for a weekday lunch and the place was packed. Perhaps they were understaffed or overworked that day, but the service was incredibly slow. I arrived after my two dining companions, who had already ordered a bottle of prosecco, and it took well over 20 minutes for anyone to take our order, let alone to ask if I wanted anything to drink. We all opted for the $36 fixed price lunch, which admittedly is great value for what you get. But each course took forever to arrive. The baby gem caesar was tasty enough, the mushroom cavatelli was okay (wouldn't get it again, personally) and the tiramisu was nice. It's high quality food overall, but just a big disappointment on the service end. The server was utterly inattentive to us and the lunch took over two hours. Also, I personally prefer the Harbord location, if given the choice. read more
