Unfortunately, one of the employees forgot to turn her mic off and we could hear the two female employees speaking negatively about his question. When we got to the window, we were not greeted. The employee took the payment, repeatedly shut the window abruptly, and when she returned with the drink, she handed it out without saying a word. As someone who is loyal to Tropical Smoothie Cafe and recommends it often, I was disappointed by the lack of professionalism and customer service during this visit. I hope this experience can be addressed so future customers are treated with more kindness and respect.

A cozy coffee shop that has sufficient seating and some neat features! There is a coffee table the is a chalkboard on top where you can sit and doodle as you enjoy your drinks and snacks. We then discovered there's a whole wall of chalkboard! The girls loved being creative as Mom and Grandma relaxed. The employees are so sweet and gracious. I'd like to highlight Lorin in particular! She was so patient and accommodating with my 8 year old granddaughter who tends to interact on a high level. She engaged with her, even joined in on writing on the chalkboard with her! When Lorin discovered it was my other granddaughter's birthday, she said if she has known she would've perhaps bought her drink. (This is not to be expected btw anyone, of course. But the thoughtful and kind gesture was so appreciated!) She is a gem and deserves recognition for an amazing job of serving and engaging with the customers! Another bonus for me personally was that they had Christian music playing. It added to the sense of relaxation and gratitude of the day and new experience at Colonial Grind! We'll most definitely be back!

I don't know if the ownership has changed or if they just made some decisions to alter things, but either way it changes our opinion of the place. First and most important for us, they used to be the only place we were aware of in NC to get Gluten Free Crab Cakes which was a major reason we frequented Sammy G's. That has apparently changed and the new Gluten Free menu is basically just the meats menu which is a real shame. It looks like they have made some other small changes to the regular menu as well, none of those were all that concerning but the loss of this GF treat is a real blow for us. If you are a celiac and found reviews about the GF crab cakes, please be aware they appear to be gone now. Additionally, the prices across the menu seem to have gone up by a few dollars. When you consider that Sammy G's was never a cheap place to eat, and given the state of the economy these days, that actually does come out to a noticeable change and makes it harder to justify going. However, with the loss of the old GF options, it's unlikely we'll come back anywhere near as often as we used to.
