The menu is classic family style Cantonese. We tried a combo dinner with sweet and sour chicken, chicken chow mein and several appetizers I was happy and enjoyed the leftovers. My partner was not impressed, though. I will have to try their lunch specials on my own. The prices were good and the portions generous. They have their own parking lot. Cash Only! read more

They can improve if they have more hygiene and not serve food with flys even the sweet n sour sauce was full of fruit flies I will never eat at this moldy nasty smelling place!! They also pick the left over shrimps from customer plates when they leave and put them on other peoples plates i seen it with my own eyes! This place should be close. read more

Always great service! We always have the 2 for 2 (with a side of 2 chili toreados) and salt and pepper wings! They are always on point. Large wings, great flavor and I love the green onion and chili toppings they put. They never disappoint. Wings come with cup of steamed rice and you can upgrade to fried for a fee. Highly recommend. I just like the food here. The dishes have a unique seasoning flavor from the other Chinese restaurants in National City that I really enjoy. The house soup is served with lemon slices on the side which I thought was odd until I tried it after adding a little lemon juice. (Loved it) Some of the combos come with fried chicken and I like that even better than salt and pepper chicken. read more

I tried calling in an order but it was recommended I come down in person to see the containers. Glad I did. Very helpful. Great sizes and prices. Food took about 15 minutes to cook which was great because I had to run to the atm for cash. They only take cash. Be prepared. The salted pepper wings were so freshness they are not overly salty, so if you're looking for that super flavor, that's not what you're getting. You can actually taste the chicken, batter, and seasoning. The fried rice is great and you have a decent portion. We also indulged in chicken lo mein. It was juicyyyyy Egg rolls bomb too. I came by as I hit up Barkada beer across the way and needed a fried rice fix. This spot takes cash only. I did a chicken fried rice order to go and it was filling and pretty good. I didn't find much grease on it so it either they cook this with a healthy fix or they didn't add much cooking oil to it. Either way I'd be interested in trying their other menu items at some point. read more

They even puncture the box for you so the chicken wings don't get soggy on your way home (if they make it back home). Best Shrimp Fried Rice and Chinese Food Restaurant in San Diego with outstanding customer service! I've been a customer since 2005.

When we arrived the to the restaurant The Health Department Personal was standing right behind us flashing there badges to do a walk through. I agree this should have been a red flag but my mother wanted to eat here like she has in the past. I proceeded to order take out food but when we arrived home it was nasty! Salty in one dish, dry on the other and 1-2 days old on the barbecue pork. Very disappointed. Our total bill was $41.99. I was not looking for a refund simply stating the fact that the food service was horrible in which the owner replied perhaps it's your taste buds. That's weird we didn't have those bad taste buds for the past 20+ years visiting your restaurant. Anyhow, I'm going to leave this one star review here. Sorry but I don't recommend! read more

Had Chicken Fried Rice here today, 03/15/2022. Nice sized plate(large portion). First time here in many years, I was a regular here @30 or so years ago when I was stationed at 32nd Street. I always liked National City and still do when in the area. Anyway, I remember this Oriental Cafe was delicious back then and still is! I shall return. Wow , what a disappointment. The wonton soupah was very plain, no chicken, hardly any vegetables. Also, I ordered egg drop soup, so that was a fail to start. I ordered fried chicken. This is a classic place with a lot of history, traditional Chinese-American fare like chop suey, and a charming, simple atmosphere. Places like this are becoming harder to find. Important note. Yelp says it's open until 10pm. It's not. Only open until 8 pm. The owner should update it! read more

I've been going to The Oriental Cafe since about 2007 because I lived and worked down in the area. I am no longer close by them but definitely make a special trip to get their food. They have the sweetest staff and talented chefs. Their chicken chow-mein is delicious, their bbq pork is THE BEST and fried shrimp are really big and absolutely the best. Love their fried rice, shrimp chips appetizer, and my sister loves their sweet and sour chicken. The tastes are authentic Chinese that tastes very much like east coast food where the cuisine is so fantastic. This restaurant is affordable and the portions are really big. Very very skimpy on the meat. Mostly rice and chow mein. it seemed like the bill was high. So I asked and found out that they charge for to go containers. $1.95 each, for Styrofoam containers, (aren't they illegal now?).
