The restaurant is dirty. It has a stale rancid smell. The tables and chairs are sticky to the touch. I come here only because my religious group likes the owner. The food is nondescript. Everything tastes the same. The food is too salty and is often served insufficiently heated. I have seen roaches in the dining area. I do not want to guess as to the state of the kitchen. The bathroom is filthy. The bathroom needs to be napalmed. The restaurant has been closed for dining during the current Coronavirus lockdown. I called around 8pm and the person who answered the phone asked if i could be on hold. i said yes and they left me alone for 10 minutes. i had to hang up and call back. Someone else had picked up and they took my order, this part is nit-picky on my part but they didnt read my order back to me so i had no idea if they got everything. I went to go pick it up and they apparently do their methods "traditional" which meant they dont have it on an electric payment system. I paid and left. I got home and unpackaged everything. If your restaurant is paying to have your menu online with online ordering available it IS directly through you. If you're not going to give correct orders or have the correct menu items listed through the app just don't have online ordering offered through it. Simple. My family thought that we were served generous portions of our dishes with good quality ingredients. Our server was attentive and we had a very pleasant family dining experience. I wish this restaurant was closer to my house as I probably would order takeout or delivery at least 3 or 4 times a month. It was good quality Chinese food at a good price. Four of us went in on the family meal, and ended up pretty pleased. I can highly recommend the Shredded Pork with Garlic sauce. We also had the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Beef with Broccoli, and General Tso Chicken, which were good. I can say I was pleased with everything, as was the rest of my family. It's standard Chinese food (for the average gringo I am guessing). For me though, there just wasn't something to set it apart from the many other Chinese Restaurants. Service was good, food was good, but nothing struck me as great. Seating was a little cramped and may not be great for small children due to the proximity next to other customers. The chair I had was a little suspect, as it rocked back and forward. I'm a big guy, so most of that is my fault probably. I thought I would just toss that out there for others who may have concerns with seating. I can see myself returning again with the Family, and if you are in the vicinity you could probably do much worse. read more

Wow, Oriental Gardens is like a bad flashback to the 70's. I had lunch here today. My most overwhelming impression; cigarette smoke. As soon as I walked in it smelled like a smokey bar from years past. I can't remember the last time I thought about an iron lung machine when I entered a restaurant. I was seated at the first table beyond the hostess table and the smell of smoke was overwhelming. I got up to look around and sure enough 20 feet away from me setting in the bar area were Grandma & Grandpa Kettle chain smoking while they ate their lunch. The beauty of Chinese food is its small enough you can eat with just a fork. That way you have your fork in your right hand, your cigarette in your left hand and you never have to put either one down. Nothing says great food like simultaneously smoking a cigarette along with it. On the food side, the lunch plates are your traditional Chinese fare, priced at about $6.50 for entree, fried rice, egg roll & soup. They serve warm soda in a can with a big glass of ice, not exactly my favorite method. However, the entrees are good & the servers are good. If they would eliminate the smoking in the building with the low ceiling and no good barrier between the bar I'd give them 3 stars but I can only go 2 stars for the total experience. I do like them for carryout at night & setting at the far back of the restaurant the smoke isn't nearly as noticeable. Come on guys, join the 1990's and ban smoking if you don't have great ventilation. read more

Well let's see honey chicken did have a slight honey flavor that was a plus, the chicken and broccoli well had no flavor and the house chow mein was also bland. I have had Chinese food in many states and this is not authentic Chinese food in taste. It taste sort of Japanese with very bland flavorings they need to add some spices to their dishes let's start with sea salt and freshly ground balck pepper then maybe some chili fresh and dried and omit frozen prebreaded chicken and make it from scratch and they may be on there way to flavor. read more

Not bad by any stretch. Massive thanks to them for rapidly accommodating a group of 10 paramedics and EMTs on zero notice, separating our checks, and bringing the food out at the same time. The General Tso's chicken was different from anyplace I've eaten at, with strips of carrots and sliced mushrooms. Not bad by any stretch, but definitely unusual. Give the food a bit more heat, and I've got another winning Chinese restaurant in Houston. The best news is that the super friendly staff accommodates special orders and requests, which meant that I was able to get some chili oil to jazz up my lunch. I'll be back. read more

First time to Oriental Gardens. Appetizers and entrees were ordered to go and it was okay, but not fantastic. Some of the fried items were overly greasy, fantail shrimp and egg roll (which seemed more like an over-sized spring roll). The shrimp with snow peas was actually shrimp with pea pods. It was okay, but a little bland. The chicken curry was probably the best dish of the four entrees. The house lo mein and house chop suey were okay, a little bland as well and were really basically the same dish, same flavor profiles and ingredients with the addition of noodles to the lo mein. Portion sizes and prices were good. The food was ready on time. And the staff was friendly. Will probably try them again. But, I'm still looking for the Chinese place that "WOWS" me! The food at Oriental Garden is top notch (especially the won ton soup), but the restaurant itself is in DIRE need of updating. It smells like an ashtray when you walk in through the dilapidated doors that are covered in years of grime, the carpet is at least 20 years old and smells, and the furniture is likely just as old and seemingly falling apart at the joints. The last time we dined in, I traded chairs twice to find one that I felt was stable. The staff is friendly and attentive, but I just cannot bring myself to eat there. I do wonder about the state of the kitchen, but we've never had any issues with the food tasting weird or off. We call in our order and pick it up to eat at home. read more

We ordered orientalist garden soup, sizzling triple delights and chow mein noodles. Nothing special. The worst part was asking the waitress what the food title meant or what comes with it, she was saying m: "you know, it's vegetables and meat on top of fried noodles, you know like the regular chow mein" and I was just thinking, some meat and veggies in top of some carb is basically everything, but ok... So we just stayed happy as its a Friday night date and we kept the love rainbow in the air. Food is pretty blah, usual salty and brown looking oily Chinese food. First timer here - was better than expected and most menu items were better than other random Chinese places around my area. We had to order a lot of food in order to use the coupon I had so here is a list of our samplings: Wonton soup - very good, lots of pork and flavorful broth. Teriyaki Chicken on a stick - crispy on the edges, soft in the middle with generic sweet and sour sauce poured over, pretty good. Egg rolls - what you get at any Chinese restaurant in the country, nothing fabulous. Chicken a la train (aka sesame chicken) - very flavorful, crispy chunks of chicken, it wasn't mostly breading like a lot of places you see. Mongolian beef - came the closest to "generic" steak was tender, sauce was bland. Moo shoo pork - flavorful, cooked perfectly, with a hint of smoke/grill flavor from the pork. Fried rice - we opted for this instead of steamed rice - not good, no flavor, with tiny bits of carrots and peas. I don't think they deliver to my house or I would probably eat here more often when I want take out. When I went to pick the order up, the staff scolded me that the coupon I was using was for dine-in only - which was not indicated on the coupon. 1 star only so I can post this review. I am feeling so deeply saddened today after my very brief visit to Oriental Garden. I had such high hopes, looking forward to a delicious House Won Ton Soup that was always my favorite up to around 7 years ago when I moved from the area. Today we walked in and were not greeted at all, despite there being two young females behind the desk. My husband asked if we might be seated, and one person slouched upwards from her seat holding a couple of dirty, stained menus and asked "For two ?" - after we said yes, she said "OK, you guys follow me". Oh, the horror of the scene laid before us - multiple tables with plates of partly-eaten food. I said "No thank you" and, on the way out, said to the other person at the desk "Do you realize that there are many tables back there that need to be cleared - that is a most unappetizing sight for incoming guests". She replied "OK, we'll have someone clear it". I told her we were leaving regardless. Aside from the foregoing text, I am almost speechless. Is this what our world has come to ? People who are employed but don't do their job, preferring to chat to one another instead ? Establishments that are unable to maintain their image to attract their customers ? Is it just me that finds this to be a huge disappointment and something that needs to be fixed in our country ? Shameful. read more

My visit the food was room temperature, not fresh, the fried rice was just rice with brown color, no different than steamed rice with color added, portions have decreased, not worth the price. My family has eaten at this restaurant for 23 years and we have never been disappointed. My daughter (of 30) has a fatal food allergy, and they accommodated her allergy to allow us to eat here or take away- even back when food allergies weren't understood by many restaurants. The only people that give this place 4-5 stars must be their loyal customers. No offense but a lot of the clientele looked like seniors. But anyway I'm mad I wasted $20 on this food that I could barely eat. Ordered the crab puffs, and instead of the inside being creamy it had a rubbery texture. I also ordered shrimp lo mein, it wasn't bad but something about the flavor was off & I noticed that the steam broccoli that I ordered on the side also had the same weird taste to it. Almost as if they cook it in the same pans that haven't been washed or the same grease. Idk, I mean how do you mess up steamed broccoli? Yuck. Then the lady gave me a hard time about getting some sauce on the side and charged me $1 for a side of sauce. Only reason I gave them 2 stars is because they're hot mustard is really good, and taste homemade. I hate when I go to Chinese restaurants and they give me packets of hot mustard smh it's not the same The sweet and sour sauce is good too, unfortunately I won't be back Ohh and also they do give large portions but what good is that if I can't even finish it?
