It's cool to get a cheap drink or shot, see the mine cave, listen to the music, and move on with your trip. Locals and travelers alike visit this establishment. It's not fancy and smells a bit musty but the clientele and pricing are great. I've been a patron here every time I'm in town for a few years now. It's a consistent experience every time, we are repeat customers. 21+ only NO KIDS. Pro tip: bar service & paying your check can be kinda slow because the bartenders get to talking - which is a bonus if you're on the receiving end of the talking.... but they get sidetracked often. Consider backing up your drink and paying cash up front. Anyway this is the reason it's knocked down a star, can get kinda frustrating when you just want a beer, sometimes it takes a while even if they aren't busy.

The bartenders, Jasmine and Derek, were straight to the point and friendly. Derek actually offered to make a specialty cocktail right as we sat down. Decent selection of local craft beer. Inexpensive drinks with fast service. Several of the other guests were not locals, but actually travelers that had deemed this place their go-to spot when staying in Gettysburg or passing through. No food menu, but you can bring your own or have food delivered. There is additional parking and entrance in the back off of Taneytown Road if the hotel parking is too full. Just the perfect cozy dive bar spot with a sweet fireplace and fun locals. Check it out!

The drinks were good and cheap, between the 2 of us we had around 8 drinks & the tab was $25 or $30. Which is relatively good for 2 people, in my opinion. They dont serve food which is a bummer, i also didnt play pool but alot of people were. It is a tight space, so it gets crowded and loud fairly quickly.

Was I seeing this place through my own beer goggles for the night. Let's just get into it. When we showed up in the area we had asked about what nightlife was like in the area. With it being in the middle of a cold streak we were told about several places in town that would fit the bill to have a night out. We made the rounds in town and then found ourselves here for the remainder of the night. I think what drew us here was that it looked like a dive from the outside and allowed smoking. There weren't many people in here for a majority of the night, so we kind of got to observe this place with the regulars in it. That really allows to see how the locals are in an area. It was interesting to say the least. Once the drinks started flowing we started to feel a little more comfortable in here. We started talking to the bartender to find out what was good to do besides the typical tourist stuff in the area. She was wonderful with suggestions, telling us about other watering holes in the vicinity and even beyond Gettysburg. We had inquired about LGBT friendly places within a short car ride and were basically told to go to Harrisburg or a small town in Maryland. At that point, that's when things started to get a little weird. After outing ourselves, things got a little uneasy for us. We ended up meeting the owner's grandson. He was great and seconded the suggestions the bartender made. But when he introduced us to the locals at the end of the bar, we kind of wanted to not say much. It actually made us feel unwelcomed after a bit of sitting near them. Kind of like all eyes were on us. After a few more minutes of that, we paid our bill and made it out the door. So the thing is that it's a great bar, if you're a local. Or maybe even if it's crowded, so there are other people to focus on. We liked everything, the freedom to smoke, the pricing, the bartender, but the atmosphere changed at some point and flipped the script. Would we go back? Maybe if it was nicer weather wise out, that would allow more people to be in here.

Nestled in the idyllic Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Lancaster City, Pennsylvania, Hildy's Tavern…read morehas been upsetting neighbors and customers in this location for about 60 years and they're just getting warmed up. From garrulous bar boors and vapid bar whores to remote control freaks and bathroom drug sneaks, Hildy's has something for nobody. Hang your pride on a nearby tree and take three steps up the curved corner door steps to take one huge step down. If you like a drink that's stiffer than the two-day-old hot dog that got on the countertop ferris wheel and forgot to get off, then this bar is for you and the cough medicine high you rode in on. If you're feeling brave, try the hot dogs. If you're feeling braver, try the women. If you want a blender drink, try shutting ignorant noise hole. You can sidle up to the bar and select something from the "rotating" daily curation of liquor and beer, or begin with a step out the back door and a peek down the famed Conjugal Alley which runs behind the building--you might catch a show! If you like smoked meats and smoked clothing, bring them in fresh and they'll be smoked to perfection in about 20 minutes! Enjoying a drink at the bar, a patron might overhear some wayfaring, well-to-do tourists who have wandered in describe it as " a punch in the face without the upside" or "a waking fever dream," while non-tippling neighbors just call it "that god d$%n bar on the corner." As one delighted out-of-towner once said, "This ain't no Applebees, these bartenders got sass!" This bar is the the Grand Lady of dive bars, standing astride the bar world like a colossus whose competitors have gone by the wayside and whose greatness has gone unchallenged. In short, this bar is amazing, and if you're too good for here, you're not good enough for anywhere. The bartender from Brendee's did not write this review.
