We could see them and then have some days to decide...of course he helped us so it turned out our first choice was the best choice. We felt confident in the information provided. He really listens and remembers helping to guide you as little or as much as you wish. I was looking for three accent rugs and I found the most beautifully hand knotted Persian rugs that was perfect for my new house. It's like pieces of art on my floors and you practically cannot wear them out and they don't change color and the pile is dense. I got 2 in wool and the white and pink rug is pure silk. Add us to the long list of satisfied customers of Sam and the Oriental Rug Gallery. We were referred by a friend and did our online research. We were a little skeptical of all the 5 star ratings but our first visit proved them all right. In fact, we would say 6 stars at a minimum. On our visit we walked in and introduced ourselves, talked to Sam about what we wanted, colors, etc. He held up his finger and said he had just the thing. He walked over to a large selection of rugs that were rolled up and tied. Looked at a couple and announced that "this was the one". Pulled it out, untied and unrolled it. IT WAS THE ONE. It was like a magic trick. Sam is a true gentleman, extremely knowledgeable and an honest businessman. If you do not know anything about oriental carpets this is the place you want to go. I brought my 8ft x 12ft rug to Oriental Rug Gallery after extensive flood damage to it. Mr. Amirkia was so helpful, and took great care of me. He was patient and kind on the phone, offered (and followed through) on helping me with the logistics of getting the rug into the store (and back out of the store later when I picked it up). His work was great, and his advice was extremely helpful for a novice like me. Seeing the nice collection he has, I'm already making plans to come in and purchase something for the house later. This one star goes to this business as I called and asked a very simple and reasonable question and instead of answering me he responded in a condescending way. Then I went into the store and he was on the phone, never acknowledged us walking in, never bothered greeting us, and he stayed on his phone while we were folding the rugs ourselves to see if we like anything. I brought my 20 year old rug to a Seattle area oriental rug cleaner who told me he wouldn't even try to clean it because although it has a Persian design it was Chinese made and the colors would run in the cleaning. He said he would throw it away but I could also take it back home and spot clean it as nothing made during the Soviet era is worth keeping. I decided to go back to the Oriental Rug Gallery in Bellevue that had treated me so courteously on the phone but had quoted a price $1/sq ft more than the Seattle store. I brought it in and asked if they could clean it. They said "Of course." They also identified it as a Chinese made rug but were kind and polite in conversation. They didn't ask if there were any pet stains although I have spot cleaned a lot of cat throw-up from of the rug over the years. My rug was finished on the day I was promised it (1 week later) and there were no extra or unexpected charges. It is clean and beautiful with no runs of color. They told me they had hand washed it.
