The pita was fluffy and the chicken was moist and flavorful without being overwhelming. I got a lunch special which is easily 2+ meals for cheap! The grilled eggplant and purple cabbage were notable items in the mix, with spicy rice, (non-spicy) chicken, falafel, and hummus. All good street food varieties of the items. The hardest part of your visit will be choosing which toppings and sauce you want! There were so many good options. I added the red cabbage, banana peppers, baba ganoush, and tahini sauce to the falafel pita -- would 100% do that again. The side of fries was SO generously sized and was only $2.99. Order at the counter and pick toppings as you go. The prices aren't bad for all this. I ordered a Falafel Pita as carryout. It's $6.99 for a pretty big one. This comes with a few pretty big pieces of falafel on a warm fresh pita. Among the toppings are typical vegetables found on falafel. Vegetables such as cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes. Also you can order bowls. Just a couple bucks more. These can pack in some more toppings. Also there's combos. These include a drink and fries. A lot of good stuff in here and healthy. The restaurant is on the smaller side as it's located on a busy street, which makes take-out a more viable option, however, dining in is still an option with plenty of seating. The restaurant layout is made to accommodate multiple students during a lunch rush, however, the staff still continue to provide friendly customer service. Sometimes they hand out free falafels with your meal! Even though it does get busy, I would recommend coming here for their discounted lunch special which includes a drink and a side of fries or soup. We visited the Urbana, IL location. Upon entry the guys behind the counter were super friendly. It took us a minute to peruse the extensive menu and wrap our heads around the process, as it was our first time at this particular shawarma joint. We ordered a shawarma bowl and a wrap, and then made our way down the line to add our toppings of choice to customize our menu selections. In some ways, like at other restaurants with similar concepts, the line moves fast, and if you are not familiar with the choices, the servers can seem to get irritated - don't let it bother you! - take your time to make the right choices for you! They will tell you how many choices you have left (to not be charged extra), and then you pay at the end. Super quick. The food was good. Be aware, the spicy chicken is spicy! But it is so good, if you can handle it! Free falafels are given on the side to sample - fun! Overall, I would rate this place above places like Cava, because it is more homemade, and is locally owned (which is a plus). I would say, if you are in the mood for rice and meat, with fresh veg on the side, hit up Shawarma Joint, it won't disappoint.
