I love my doctor, Dr. Cassandra Wertz, and her nurse Dee. They make an awesome team, and always make me feel supported and never rushed, the way that many physicians tend to be these days. All my questions are always answered fully and I leave feeling reassured. Dee is also a rockstar when it comes to drawing blood! She makes the whole process fast and as pain free as possible. I'm not a fan of needles, and she makes it much more bearable! The facility as a whole is well-kept, crisp, and modern. There is even a little refreshment room in the waiting lounge for the patients. The only downside is that you have to pay for parking, but it is only $5 and I can usually find a spot pretty quickly. You pay for your parking at the front desk when you check out, which makes it a smoother process to leave rather than tracking down a machine. Valet is also an option.

This can result in double billing at the physicians sole discretion without the patients consent or prior knowledge and possible resulting co-pay costs billed to the patient and double billing to the insurance provider. This potential for double billing rests entirely with the acting physician and without prior notification to the patient that this will take place. If you don't want to be billed for both an office visit and preventative health visit, then your option is not ask questions or discuss your health with your physician during a preventative health visit (physical). This does not promote Doctor Patient relationship, this provides an opportunity for Medical Clinic of Houston to double bill your insurance carrier for each preventative health visit.

Note: the elevators do not open until 6AM which is the same time you are to show up to the pediatric surgical unit. It was not a problem. We chose not to use valet because the hours wouldn't work for us and the self-parking was easy. I was scared about a heart procedure in a big city like Houston far from our small town. It was super easy to get around the hospital and the traffic was not bad from our Air B&B to the hospital. After consultations with five different cardiologists who wanted to perform open heart surgery, Dr. Almanfi recommended a mitraclip repair which could be done with a cath procedure. Dr. Almanfi was very responsive to all of my questions and concerns. If I emailed with a question, he responded in a time frame that exceeded my expectations for a surgeon of his caliber. The prodedure was done in the morning and I spent one night in the hospital under observation. By noon the next day, I was on my way home. The best news is that after only two days my breathing was better and my energy level was definitely increasing with each day. I can't even begin to say what an excellent job this doctor did to repair my heart and improve my living conditions. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who is having cardiovascular problems.

One of the nurse, Michele, really went out of her easy to assist with getting an echo set up for me the very next day when my in office ekg was abnormal. She stayed after hours to accommodate me. I was truly impressed. In fact, even the doctor went out of his way to spend time with me. He was knowledgeable and explained several procedures I needed to me in depth. The wheelchair accessibility of this clinic is fantastic, including reduced rate parking in valet if you have a valid handicapped placard. When i went back the next day for the echo, I met a second cardiologist for the practice who was actually me friendly than the first one, and just as knowledgeable. So why four stars? Ultimately, the first doctor made a couple of insulting comments about my weight- and I don't mean appropriate medical comments about a need to lose weight, as I would have had no issue with that. These comments were joking comments about needing "special equipment" due to my size. Thing is, I'm not big enough to have warranted that. Unfortunately, I'm just overweight enough that a comment line that was, at best, inconsiderate and at worst inappropriate. So I got my echo results and went across the street to Methodist cardiology, where they explained to me all about my valve condition and murmur, scheduled my further testing- without any special equipment, thank you very much-and really set my mind and heart at ease. So ....if you're not as sensitive as I am, give them a shot. With my health issues, I've just decided life is too short not to be treated respectfully, especially when is something as serious as your health. But at the same time, I won't knock the entire practice- which was really good- over one comment from an unthinking doc.

I am still frustrated that they were slow in this response and that as a result I lost out on critical moments with my son, but I am happy to now be able to switch out with my spouse and see my son. I am adjusting review to 4 stars to reflect the exceptional care that we have received from medical staff - the doctors, residents, nurses, RTs and OTs have been phenomenal. The missing 1 star purely reflects on my issues with hospital admin and the excessive visitation policy. Previous post- It has been 37 days since I last was able to see my son who is only 62 days old and still in the NICU - all because of a COVID visitation policy at Texas Children's that is EXCESSIVE, INSENSITIVE to parent's/ patient's well-being and OUT OF LINE with nearly all surrounding hospitals. 37 days I have been prevented from holding him, watching him grow, and having critical moments of bonding. See the attached list of Medical Center hospitals and several near my home in Cypress. None of them have adopted the excessive policy of one visitor per stay. I personally called each of these hospitals and was furious to find how out of line TCH's policy is, especially since when I argued my case to the Nursing Director for the Texas Children's Newborn Center she told me that TCH's visitor policy was enacted as part of a unified visitation policy with all other Medical Center hospitals - which was either a baseless assumption or gross misrepresentation. It should also be noted that when we were originally told about the policy, the Nurse Manager told us that the policy was being mandated from the state and that TCH had no choice but to comply - which was a total fabrication. Texas Health and Human Service Commission has stated "our most recent guidance to hospitals allows them to permit patient family members, one at a time, to visit their loved ones in the hospital." How is TCH so out of line with their competitors? Why are they so unsympathetic to the needs of their patient and their families? Not to mention that the policy itself is illogical - my wife and I live and breathe in the same household - we represent the same risk factor & germ pool. I understand limiting the number of visitors in the hospital at any given time, but allowing parents living in the same household to switch daily would not increase the level of statistical risk for the hospital. Your intent here was well placed, but the excessive (& out of line) policy that you have drawn is causing harm to parents and preemie babies and without any real benefit. So in conclusion TCH has a visitation policy that is dramatically more harsh than their peers, that is causing real harm to patients/ their families and doesn't make their patients any more safe. I have worked with Child Advocacy multiple times and spoken to hospital administrators, they all recognize the policy does not make logical sense, but they are either unwilling or incapable to make humane, logical, reasonable accommodations.

I had a scheduled appointment for my son at 9:15 AM. I called ahead of time when I realized I would be late in order to reschedule. During that call, the representative informed me that because my son was sick, they would not allow him to come into the office. Instead, I was told that they would schedule an e-visit (virtual visit) for later that same day at 4:15 PM. I agreed to this arrangement based on the information provided. Later, when I logged into the MyChart system for the scheduled appointment, I noticed that it was listed as an office visit rather than an e-visit. I called the office to clarify, and the representative I spoke with told me that I must have "misheard" and insisted that no one would have told me it was an e-visit. I was then transferred to the office manager, Sharon, who also stated that I must have misheard and that no employee would have given me that information. I explained clearly what I had been told earlier, but she continued to dismiss my concerns. When I requested the name of the representative who originally assisted me so I could better understand the situation, Sharon refused to provide that information. The conversation escalated due to the lack of assistance and accountability. Sharon further stated that if I filed a complaint, it would "just come back to her," which gave me the impression that there is no proper oversight or accountability process within the office.
