My technician Luke, just left my home. And I have to say, that he was LITERALLY the most professional, knowledgeable, courteous, respectful, and helpful service tech, I've ever dealt with! In addition, he was EARLY lol! But what stood out more than anything else (and what prompted me to write this review), is the fact that he was a man of INTEGRITY, which we all know is relatively rare, when dealing with these types of industries. This is a review for the Charlotte NC Orkin (service location #462) We have had the DryZone service for over 10 years. Recently we had the pleasure of meeting a new service technician Bill Melrose. We cannot speak enough to this mans professionalism and throughness when he did our annual inspection. The DryZone is a service that ensures areas like crawlspaces do not become overly humid or damp which can lead to wood damage and dreaded mold. Living in NC (Shelby) like other southern states humidity during the summers can be high. Bill inspected the entire crawl space, checked the humidity levels of the wooden floor beams and checked and rechecked the Dehumidifier. My goodness he even replaced a bulb underneath the house and stuffed back up inulation that had fallen do to vibration. Bill Melrose is just an exammple of why we will continue or DryZone Service with Orkin. read more

Orkin quoted me $300 to get rid of my fleas. I paid, they sprayed (a ton). It did nothing. Upon returning, they said I could get my $300 back, OR I could pay an extra $12,000 to get rid of the fleas (yes, $12,000 is accurate). My grandmother is a long time customer of Orkin Pest Control and recently she had an incident where she received a reminder voicemail from Orkin and prior to the representative speaking on the voicemail this statement can be heard clearly "[sic] nigger, I know you are." In addition to that, the technician never showed up to service her home. I called the service center on 8/21/2017 and spoke with service manager Luis A. who asked me to send him the recording of the voicemail and I did. I asked to have a follow-up regarding the matter of the voicemail. The branch manager of Charlotte's Orkin, Kirk Reed, called my grandmother and played phone tag with her. When she finally talked to someone on 8/29/2017, Kirk Reed was dismissive of the fact that those words were said. I then called to speak with him and he claimed that he heard the recording and that he did not hear those words stated in the recording. He also proclaimed that he intended on doing nothing about it and that his employees don't speak like that. Although I was very respectful and professional in my conversation with him, he continuously said, "I am the branch manager and I didn't hear that and I'm trying to respect you" as if I was disrespecting him. I have tweeted Orkin's twitter account with hopes of hearing something from someone, but haven't heard anything yet. My only hope from this is that there is accountability on the part of the company where my grandmother's green money goes and an apology. That is the least that could be done. With the climate that the US is in right now, these types of incidents are becoming all too frequent and it won't stop if it's not called out. I have never written a review on a company before, but over the last year, my experience with Orkin has been so bad, I feel strongly compelled to share my experience. Hopefully, you will think twice before signing a contract with them. The Orkin service employees that I have dealt with (4 people) all shared the same qualities. They are disorganized, unprofessional and have absolutely no idea how to manage their time let alone set their calendar. There was no rhyme or reason to their visits. The service employee would come halfway between when the visit should have been scheduled or a month late because he couldn't keep track of the last time he visited. I also had to call the office 3+ times requesting that they give me more than a couple hours notice because I am a working professional and am not sitting at home waiting for them to ring my door bell. Often times, the notice they gave was only 15 minutes and he was ringing the doorbell, even if I didn't answer the phone. At that point, they expect you to let them in and do not care whether or not this may be a bad time for you. On top of this, 9 times out of 10 he came on a random Saturday morning. The office insisted that their service employees can give a 2 week notice, which satisfied me. They last time I answered my doorbell after a 15 min warning, I asked the guy, look, they said you would give me a two week notice and I have personally asked you to give me at least a 1-3 day notice. He said he didn't know why the office would tell me that. The next visit was no different then the previous 8 visits, so I cancelled my pest control service. Second issue: To top it all off... WE STILL HAD BUGS such as spiders, earwigs, ants and bees in the house after over a year of treatments. Third Issue: It is very expensive to start up a new termite service, so we decided to stay with Orkin after cancelling our pest control service so we didn't have to pay $800 for another company to takeover. I get a call on 9/25/14 saying that they need to schedule a termite inspection visit before the end of the month or our plan isn't valid. So, I have Friday, Monday or Tuesday or my plan isn't valid?!?!?! How does your lack of planning constitute an emergency on my part??? I told him, this is exactly why I cancelled the pest control service, but he honestly didn't give a darn. I will never recommend Orkin and will never use them again. read more

Do not use Orkin. I have a pest issue in the house I am renting and contacted Orkin. Scheduling the service was fast and easy, and I stayed home from work the next day for the initial service. For $200, I expected a full inspection and treatment plan, as was discussed in the initial phone conversation. On the day of service, a technician arrived and spent less than 20 minutes spraying the baseboards and exterior of the house. Then they left. Two days after treatment, I continued to see pests around the house. I called to schedule another immediate service, but was unable to get a hold of anyone on the phone. I left four voicemails with no response. Finally after calling for "new service", I was put through to a representative immediately. I was finally able to schedule a service and stayed home the next day. However, no one ever showed up. This has overall been an expensive, frustrating, and ridiculous experience. I'm hoping to successfully get through to someone to cancel services but I'm not holding my breath. read more

Do not use Orkin. When explaining the terms of the contract for pest removal, they failed to mention that at the end of the 1 year contract, they need 30 day notice to cancel the service or else it continues. When I asked the technician how many services I had left on the contract, he consistently said he didn't know, but estimated I had a few left. I did not question him on that. Now it turns out that the 1 year contract is up but has been constantly renewing and bringing on additonal uneeded service and charges. Now that I have experienced this I did some research on the company and have found numerous complaints in the same vain. This company is using a tactic to try to capture extra payments from customers that no longer need the service. Instead of at the end of the year, asking how the service was and if it needed to be continued, they automatically renew and continue to charge the customer. There is no thought toward proper customer service. I'd recommend using a different company that does not try to prey on unsuspecting customers. read more
