I like Dr Ticker but expect to wait for at least a half hour in the waiting room before you get to see him

I went to Orlin & Cohen for a second opinion. Check in was quick my medical forms were pre filled , I just had to verify the information and sign. My appointment was scheduled for 2:45 , I got there at 2:30pm the office was busy. Each time they came out with a folder , I was hoping they would call my name but they didn't. After about an hour I was finally called into the exam room. I had an X-Ray done onsite., 10 mins later Dr. Gerber came into the exam room. Dr. Gerber has good bed side manner. He looked over my MRI reports that I brought to the office as well as the X-Rays. He was attentive and offered several treatment options, I didn't feel pressure to my decision. referred me to a great physical therapy place. Although my visit with Dr. Gerber went well , I would probably see him again at a different location. read more

I waited for over an hour in their waiting room for walk-in. The front desk crew are very unprofessional. I didn't receive a greeting from the ladies at the front desk because they were busy ordering food. Finally a guy near them did their job and directed me as to what to do. I guess I'm at their mercy because of what I needed but I did not have a great experience at all. read more

Having been to 2 other Orlin & Cohen locations, I have to say that my experience at this location could have gone better. My appointment was at 5:30 PM, but We weren't seen until 6:45 PM. The long waits seem to be a common theme with the other reviewers here. I did not have this experience at the other locations. Other than the extremely long wait (imagine if you had to get to work afterwards), the physician was friendly and helpful when we were finally seen. read more

The doctors, medical staff and reception staff are all terrific. They all make patient care a priority. The Orlin and Cohen phone system however, makes you feel like you are completely unimportant to them. Getting to speak to the actual doctors office is impossible. And the callbacks that they commit and even give a timetable for do not happen. it took me three days of calling and each time selecting a different number to finally hear from my Doctor who called me personally after hours and said I would hear from them first thing the next day about getting a prescription that he felt I needed. No call the next day, and three more days of trying to reach someone in that office to get the prescription. It was never like this before Orlin & Cohen. The rating I am giving is for the people in the office and the doctor. I wish I could give two ratings one for the actual people which would be a five and one for Orlin and Cohen, which would be a zero. read more

I'm very happy with the care I have received from the surgeons and all other health care professionals at Orlin and Cohen. They have top specialists for every possible body part. And they treat their patients with sincere and expert care. There may be a short wait for office visits but their ambulatory units run like clockwork. I have had three procedures performed over the last few years, most recently last week, and have been 100% satisfied with the results every time. The only negative could be navigating through the voice prompts at times to speak to actual person. Highly recommend. read more

Totally incompetent staff. Spent over an hour waiting in pain, finally they called my name, then they started asking for the same information over and over again name, date of birth, last name.... Insurance card, drivers license.... I kept telling them "if cannot help me I'll go to the emergency room" Then they handed me forms to fill out. (With the same questions)... At this point I walked out. If their standards are so low at the counter I can just immagine what the doctors are like! read more

Just walked out of Orlin and Cohen in Merrick. After waiting one hour in the waiting room, they call me into the exam room and I wait another half hour and nobody comes to see me. When I went To the desk to ask what gives, another patient says, are you talking about Dr . Andrew Tarlton? I say yes! He triple and double books, she tells me. I asked the girl at the desk why this is allowed.. she then asks me if I want to see a doctor who works on a different time frame...! Seriously? I explained to her that I'm in for a back problem, and I can hardly sit down for any length of time and this is how the office handles such patients? Unacceptable. It should be noted that I was the only patient in the waiting room the entire time. So why the delay? The manager of the Office, who never appeared to speak to me, told the girl that I could come back in a week and see another spinal doctor. Something is really wrong with this place. I like my doctor very much, however this practice is a mill. Getting to speak to anyone about a question one may have is an impossibility. I find dealing with the practice very frustrating, from always having to wait an hour past appointment time to see one's doctor, to the frustrations of getting through to the correct person on the phone. This will be my last contact with them. They are the worst, and there are other good physicians out there----I hope. read more

All of my experiences at Orlin & Cohen have exceeded my expectations. It is a great place all around. Kerri the office manager is always helpful and runs a professional/clean facility. All of the assistants and x-ray techs have been efficient and easy to work with. Dr. Wu is an amazing surgeon who is extremely knowledgeable and she will always answer any questions you may have. Dr. Wu will do what she can to help your injury. I highly recommend Orlin & Cohen for any orthopedic needs. read more

I'm not sure why so many negative reviews, as I've never had a bad experience here. I recently needed emergency hand surgery and Dr Brown was able to see me immediately and scheduled the surgery for that week. His staff was attentive and friendly and I never once experienced anything but sound medicine and excellent care. I've seen Dr Brown for non emergent care and the experience was always the same. I gave them one star because there are no negative star options. The office does CREATIVE BILLING. I ended up paying for a service that was not performed so that It would not effect my credit rating. What a racket. I guess they try to get away with these fake charges. Charged for sonogram that was never performed, charged for an expanded visit with Dr. Never even saw the Dr. Was told I needed a brave for 2-3 days. Bill for brace was $435. Some charges they adjusted but not all. This fiasco has been going on since November 2017. Do no use them. Most emails go unanswered as well. They are a Factory. In total agreement with BETH T posted below. I also was charged an egregious amount ($992) for a simple wrist brace (research after the fact shows its widely available at medical supply stores in Wantagh and Massapequa for $50-$80 as well as much cheaper options at CVS Amazon etc). What makes the situation worse was i specifically asked during my visit if there was any premium in using their brace as opposed to simply purchasing myself and they assure me no. After waiting over 10 minutes for them to even find one i now know why they were so persistent. Despite being passed around the billing department, medical supply personnel and the Office manager who admitted she was unsure why the MA gave me false information they chose to NOT adjust my bill and wanted the full amount allowed by my insurance ($575). I have now filed an appeal with my insurance provider and told them to review their contract with this practice as they are charging at least a 10x premium to all other braces available. I hope this will stop this from affecting other customers and really all people as it is these shady practices which raise all of our insurance premiums. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before I elected to allow Orlin and Cohen to operate on my foot. I am 13 weeks post surgery and my foot is much worse than before they operated. I understands things take time but there has been a problem with healing and it is close to impossible to get someone to call you back. I have called numerous times and been put on hold for extended periods only to eventually be told no one is there to talk to and the person answering is "just an operator" and can't help at all but will leave a message. After about half a dozen times and hours of phone waiting you get the idea that the operation is done and you are on your own. I am disgusted with the follow up care I have received and if I had seen the number of 1 star reviews before I went there I would have avoided them. Consider yourself forwarned. read more

I have to say that I was totally impressed with everyone at this office. I was recommended to James A. Germano, M.D.from my dear friend. My mom has been suffering from knee pain for years. I was so happy that she finally agreed to see a doctor and it was extremely important that she was able to connect and feel comfortable .Dr. Germano was respectful, patient and kind. She was very respective to his recommendation. I believe the PA name was Steven and he admitted the cortisone shot and was amazing. He saw how scared she was and he diffused the situation and she left smiling.We came all the way from brooklyn and booked our next appointment for next month. AGAIN! Can't get a HUMAN on the phone! Been trying to refill a prescription for pain meds for 3 DAYS. NO ONE EVER ANSWERS THE PHONE! Oh and the name and number you left? He didn't answer either. A simple prescription and they can't get it done. Receptionist galore to take your co pay. Need a prescription? The only option is a visit to the urgent care agan for guess what? More co-pays. This entire practice is a disgrace and the fact that what they do here is referred to as "care" is a complete misnomer. It's amazing that people subject themselves to this. I ve had several life changing events . I'm not stranger to catastrophic Injury. My career path introduced me to Burn,s Bone crushing collapses. Respitory ongoing injures., AS I often say Ive been to Hell they dont want me. If you need surgery get the best out there , get it gone once and never look back. Last February I had have my right hip replaced by Dr. GERMANO an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in knee and Hip surgery. I held many interviews of 20 yrs before deciding the pain couldnt get worse and technology has progressed.. I had my Hip Replaced.. within 10 days I was walking 1 1/2 miles and truly got a new lease on life. After that I took on Spinal Stenous and and severe osteoarthritis in my body. I saw Dr.CARDINALE Pain management specialist extraordinaire He is quiet, .affable and highly skilled, my condition wasn't an overnight success but neither was the injuries that got me here. After repeated series of treatments. My lower Back ,neck, arms and hands are at this juncture pain free. I'm not God and neither is he however I'm nearly 70 and wisdom and faith got me where I am today. Orlin & Cohen suffers what many health groups suffer through, overabundance of demand, the damn automated phone system etc., this is the world we live ,if your health is as important to you as it is to me, Life is not dress rehearsal , do it once do it right ,patience and mutual respect work wonders.. read more

April 18, 2019 I would like to give one of your Doctors and the staff my appreciation. My wife fell and she does not do well with doctors or pain. After one day I knew she needed to see a doctor. So off we went to Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group in Merrick after a call for an emergency visit. Dr Brown fit her in. She also was a patient at Orlin & Cohen before. Dr Brown was extremely caring, put my wife at ease explaining procedures. My wife feels fortunate to be a patient of Dr Brown. His concerns were always her safety and her pain. Doctor Brown is professional, pleasant, and thorough. Also, the staff was patient and understanding of not only my wife but other patients in the waiting room. I spent a lot of money and never got anywhere with them. I have herniated discs in my neck. Each time I went, they'd tell me to come back, never actually doing anything. The last straw was the doctor who told me I should lose weight and it would all be better (it was actually 20 years of intense cardio and weightlifting that killed my neck). I'm not exactly heavy either. Completely useless and really should consider an attorney. read more

I was denied medication because I missed my appointment, Dr Daves is very vindictive if you miss an appointment. Please don't come here this place is getting worse by the minute, the doctors are very snotty and very racist. I have never heard of someone being turned away because they missed a appointment and refused their medication, and I'm an invalid with chronic neuropathy....this place needs to be shut down ....you can never get anyone on the phone this place is ridiculous Kaitlin who is very nice does her best and makes sure that messages are delivered ...and Sophia as well...I was told to find a new pain management center out of no where...I was removed off my regular medication Gabapentin to lyrica and this doctor is refusing to refill my prescription and it states that you are not supposed to abruptly stop this drug. I am livid whatever you do go elsewhere these people are heartless and evil. I've never seen a business run in this horrible way. I'm reporting this doctor she needs to be fired ASAP!!!! read more

Sadly I have had to come here a few times. Not because of the service or doctors, but because it means I hurt myself. The biggest complaint I have heard is that the place is a factory of Orthopedics and I would have to agree, but for me that is the beauty as I am always able to get an appointment and most of the required services are onsite. The front desk staff is very friendly and the doctors I have seen have always been knowledgable and spent time explaining the injuries and treatment. While I would never hope you need to come here, but if you need a place to go, I definitely recommend booking an appointment here. read more

NOOO, I would advise anyone to stay away. I went years ago for a broken finger. No matter what time I made an appointment I had to wait at least an hour to see the doctor. The doctor was as nasty as they come. I made an appointment with another Doctor there, Dr Shah, for a knee problem. Waited over 1.5 hours and when I finally saw him I regretted it. He was twice as nasty and rude as the doctor I had seen years before. I would not advise my worst enemy to visit this practice. They must book 15 patients at the same time, otherwise why would there be an hour wait for an appointment. I think they must hire their doctors on the basis of how nasty they are. Front staff rude, doctors dont value your time (only theirs) they took an oath to care for patients but all they want is to line their pockets rather than wait 10 minutes for patients who are stuck in traffic. Having been turned away by several orthopedic practices on the east end of LI (due to covid), I didn't know where to turn and took a literal chance on calling Orlin & Cohen. So glad I did! Dr. Germano in the Merrick office performed my total knee replacement in late June at LIJ, as soon as non-emergency surgeries restarted, and I could not have been more satisfied with the outcome. Talk about a talented surgeon!...I'm having an amazing recovery and this medical practice was on point from the beginning. O & C got me scheduled for surgery within 30 days, no easy feat during a pandemic, and I was so grateful considering I was on crutches and serious pain during those 30 days. Post-surgical appointments handled covid safely & efficiently. Highly recommend - he is a talented and awesome ortho surgeon! read more

If you value your time and want to have it respected, then this is the place not do business with. I say business, because that is how you're exactly treated here, as a patient number, not as an actual patient. The other side of the wing that did the MRI the previous week were fantastic from start finish, but when I returned for the follow-up, the wait was insurmountable. Never mind the desk staff which other reviewers already noted their ruddiness and lack of compassion, but the office manager, who was some blonde that must be from either the Five Towns or Merrick, didn't show any concern when I addressed my issue regarding why I was waiting so long for a simple MRI review appointment and was promised to be next in five minutes when it was 12 minutes prior when told by one of her staff members. Instead of being sympathetic and addressing my issue, upon noting that I would go to another orthopedist, she simply gave me the MRI results, refunded my co-pay and walked away. (That's even after one of her staff personnel insisted that I stay for the results noting that the MRI came back positive and that I may need surgery) I find it such a pity that an organization this large and supposedly having a notable reputation throughout Long Island to have an office staff like the one they have in Merrick, especially with their ring leader at the helm. I guess it is true that these types of large scale practices only care to over book patients, get 'em in one door, and out the other while getting their co-pays and milking our insurance providers. read more

i went in for hand pain that was not diagnosed correctly and came out with new problems possible due to misdiagnosis. heartless pain dr. would not give enough meds to make it to my next appointment. I was only using 1 tablet at night so i could sleep. They just pass you around from one dr to another. read more

The place runs like it had just opened for business for the first time that morning. No one knows anything and it's like they're all new to it. I waited a RIDICULOUS amount of time to be seen (hour and a half) The nurse calling patient names couldn't pronounce them correctly so it was extremely difficult and frustrating to know who was up next. People kept staring at each other wondering whose names were being called. One patient walked up to help pronounce a couple names. How embarrassing and unprofessional for a medical office (of supposed professionals). After finally being seen, I was told to have a seat and my name will be called so that I can check out. Seriously? Then I was given a CD of my X-ray. The nurse said the doctor is giving the cd to me to take home. I laughed and informed her I brought the cd to him. It was mine already. She then confirmed a future follow up apt in February. I laughed again and said "Ma'am, February was last month, it's now March. You're reading an old apt in the system". There's more but this review is lengthy enough- People please RUN from this place. I would NEVER trust these morons with my health. read more

I have had very positive experiences with Dr. Ticker, Dr. B. Brown and Dr. Carroll at Orlin & Cohen. I valued their knowledge and professionalism . I have had several surgeries and the outcomes have been extremely positive. Unfortunately, scheduling appointments aren't easy. read more

My husband and I have gone to see Dr Lenart several times for our shoulders. I was particularly anxious this time because I had fallen and had hurt it . Dr Lenart puts you at ease immediately. He has such a calming way about him and a gentleness you seldom see. His expertise with cortisone shots is unsurpassed. I would also like to give a shout out to Jesse to greeted us with smiles at the front desk, a huge change from the old days the MA Christina in the back treated you as if you were family and then upon leaving O made an appt with Michele and Melanie who were also smiles all around. It's like a brand new office. Kudos to their super friendly office manager. Recommend highly!! read more
