Oddly enough my cousin who was dining with me ordered the drink and the ice was nothing impressive and could've been left off in my opinion. Another example is when ordering the lamb chops, he wanted them prepare at medium well, but were told it could only come medium rare. First and last time there. The restaurant was half empty and our service was still relatively slow. I asked for a wine and was told they didn't have it but they might be able to get me a glass of a different wine - maybe. I wanted a cocktail but the first one I saw was $24! The others were expensive and uninspired. We started with the sesame cauliflower. Until I read the menu again just now, I forgot there was supposed to be sesame. It tasted like sweet and sour cauliflower. There were dried out slivers of what I later found out were garlic. They were dried out and tasteless, something I never knew could be done to garlic. The other dish we tried was the crispy duck salad. I was lured in by the thought of lemongrass. I again didn't taste that ingredient. The salad dressing was OK. We absolutely adored our time at ORO on NYE for dinner this year. We wanted somewhere to share plates that was also elevated vibes and near the action of the night. ORO checked all our boxes. The menu is really unique and fun so we were excited to try. We made reservations because of the holiday, but there was definitely a medium amount of seating downstairs and upstairs so a regular night you probably don't need them? It is decorated really classy and you can see the kitchen from downstairs seating. Our server was really attentive and friendly. She walked us through how they recommend sharing everything and everyone ordering 2-3 things each. We took the advice and along with two white wines we ordered the NY Strip, Truffle Mac and Cheese, Fingerling Potatoes, and a Charcuterie board. We asked for the steak medium rare, and it definitely came on the rare side. This was our only real slight disappointment of the night, and it was quickly made up for with how amazing the dishes tasted. My boyfriend and I agreed the truffle mac and cheese was our absolute favorite. It was delicious and the breading was perfect. Also just an us preference, but we are sick of cavatappi pasta for mac and cheese at every restaurant, so we loved that here it was made with elbows :). If you order about 2 to 3 of the shared size plates per person will be satisfied and everyone will have a taste. The scallops and the cauliflower are a must order. A few of my personal favorites included : - The grilled jerk chicken was super tender and full of flavor; my mouth 's still watering from thinking about it. We THOROUGHLY enjoyed our dinner at ORO. It is a large tapas plate type restaurant. Many years have passed since my wife and enjoyed such a palate pleasing experience. The escargot, octopus, mushrooms, and veal cheeks were absolutely divine. My wife enjoyed her perfectly seared and buttery Chilean Sea bass on a bed of short ribs (yes, short ribs). My libation of choice was the 007 martini - perfectly made and generously proportioned. When Cody found out it was our 20th wedding anniversary he brought out two glasses of champagne! Absolutely decadent! I visited Raleigh for a wedding and decided to make a weekend of it and explore the down. A friend suggested Oro and shared that it is black owned so I had to check it out. Upon arriving, our server, Cory explained that the menu is designed to be tapas style and then made a few suggestions for our group based on our variety of dietary needs (gluten free, vegan, etc). We got a few cocktails which were pretty and featured unique presentations. Based on Cory's suggestions, we went with the watermelon salad, Caesar salad, sesame cauliflower, brussel sprouts from the garden section. The brussel sprouts were incredible and the cauliflower were my Second favorite. From the land section, we had pork belly and chicken potstickers. I didn't partake in either but the rest of the group loved both. From sea, we did the ahi tuna spring rolls and the mahi-mahi tacos. The spring rolls were delicious but the tacos lacked robust flavor. Lastly, we did the sea bass from the chef's table section. This wasn't your typical sea bass as it was placed on top of short rib for the most interesting but incredible combination. Good not great. We came for our anniversary which we noted in the reservation, which sadly wasn't acknowledged at all through our visit. We were seated at a small two top in between two other two tops despite there being plenty of seating to spread everyone out a bit so you aren't on top of each other. I really wanted to like this place but for the price point the food and drinks didn't match. The pros: Reservation seating was prompt and friendly Staff was nice but also could have been more attentive given the pricing of the menu (for example, checking in on us for more drinks, let us know food is delayed, and removing empty dishes before bringing next entree.) Pork belly skewer and prosciutto burrata were delicious Cons: Upstairs seating was tight and we got seated against a wall which made things much tighter given there was a table within arms reach of me. I should have said something once we got seated but since it was t busy and there were other open tables I figured they would not seat anyone next to us so quickly, but they did so it was difficult to enjoy conversation without feeling like you are ease dropping on your neighbor or vice versa. Plus it got extremely hot due to the limited air flow with the wall. The drinks were aesthetically pleasing but not good tasting. Unfortunately paying $24 for a cocktail just because it came in a dragon is not worth it. The glass was small and the drink was too strong and not tasty. Husband had the hooch which was better tasting but still too strong. We got the ny steak and it took forever to get to us, it was tough and such a small portion for $40. We couldn't send it back because we had a show to attend and it took so long to get it. This place is a gem! I dined here for the Downtown Raleigh Restaurant week in hopes or trying the limited menu items. Unfortunately the two entrees that we wanted to try, lamb shank and crawfish risotto, wasn't available. Nevertheless, that didn't stop me from wanting to try someone else. Let me first say that the vibe is amazing here. When I walked in the ampere was filled with buzzing conversations, laughter, and the best music selection. I was seated right next to the kitchen and I was able to observe the two chefs work hard to keep up with those back to back orders. I was recommended to try the crispy duck and I ordered the pear salad of the limited menu. My companion had the same salad and had they're mine set in the risotto and lamb shank however they were offered to get any other entree of the regular menu to substitute for the DTR week menu; the beef short ribs. I'll start with the salad; it was the first bummer of the evening with the second being that the menu option wasn't available. It was large lettuce leaves that hasn't been sliced as well as a halved pear HARD in the center. As I was eating the salad I kept tasting and feeling what felt like grit/dirt however as I tossed the salad around I see that the toasted nut was charred and it was very bitter. This salad was not well thought out in my opinion. My entree came out first and my companion's meal came out when I was almost finished with my meal, about 30-35 mins later. The crispy duck with the scallion cakes were out of world! Very flavorful, crispy, crunchy, savoriness off the duck paired with sweet and tangy sauce were a delight! And the flaky, salty, greasiness (a good greasy) of the scallion cakes were the perfect trio. I was able to taste the braised beef short ribs, just a taste. It was every bit of tender and comforting. If you're looking to smile and reminisce of Sunday dinner as a child then this is what you want to order. To finish dinner we had the s'mores. We were brought a sectional plate with Graham cracker dust, marshmallows, a warmed chocolate sauce accompanied quartered strawberries, and the light a small cube of dry ice so that you may enjoy making your own s'mores at the table. I docked a star for several reasonings: *The salad having a grittiness to it from the charred hazelnut and while writing this review, I looked over the menu and I realized the pear was supposed to be roasted NOT raw. I don't know how the chef missed that nor the server who brought the food to the table. I had this experience at the end of 2022, but it still bothers me, so I've decided to leave a review. I was unable to make a reservation for my party of 12 online, so I booked three separate reservations for groups of four. When we arrived, I explained the situation to the host, who went to speak with the manager. The host returned and informed us that they could seat us together, but only if we placed everything on one card, which we agreed to. However, after another conversation with the manager, the host came back and added a new condition: a $60 minimum spend per person. This was never mentioned initially, which felt misleading. Since we only planned to have drinks and appetizers, we declined and had to sit separately. Hoping for some flexibility, we asked our waiter if we could move the tables together or at least pull up an extra chair. He checked with the manager and came back with a firm "no." The most frustrating part? The entire time we were there, a table large enough to accommodate our group remained open. To add to the disappointment, it was my birthday, and my friend brought a cake. When they asked if we could bring it in, they were told there would be an exorbitant fee per person--so they decided to save the cake for later. (For contrast, we went to Brewery Bhavana afterward, where they had no issue with the cake. Highly recommend checking them out if you're looking for great food in the area.) Now, for the positives: the food and drinks were excellent. I ordered the truffle mac and cheese, a duck dish, and a cocktail with stunning presentation--everything was absolutely delicious. However, the poor customer service completely overshadowed the experience. At a restaurant of this caliber, I expect better communication and a higher standard of hospitality, especially given the price point. Instead, it seemed like they were more concerned with maintaining an exclusive image than providing quality service. First time experiencing this restaurant along with the environment. We were informed by our server that this place was focused on quality, experience and efficiency of the food. Which I personally agree. Starting the night off right, we ordered the All that Glitters and Welcome to the LabOROtory for drinks. I really enjoyed the LabOROtory it was definitely different that what I assumed. We were also informed by our server that it's typical to order 2-3 dishes per person, and they suggested that we share the food. In my opinion, I enjoy sharing food but the portions were a bit small for my liking (just my preference). We ordered Jerk Chicken Drumettes (from the Garden Group), Truffle Mac & Cheese (from the Land Group), and Chicken & Truffle Potstickers (also from the Land Group). The Jerk chicken was great, flavorful and subtle. My only judgement is I would prefer some sort of spice, but nonetheless it was good. The truffle Mac & Cheese was the absolute best out of all three! My only critique is the portion, it was tiny. The Potstickers weren't my preference but my partner liked them, due to the reminiscence to Gyoza (a Japanese dish). The final dish that we both would order every time we visit is the Chilean Sea Bass. The flavor, the texture, the balance and individuality of the beef to the sea bass to the butter was immaculate! I've only had Sea Bass this good since 2021 in Charlotte, NC. I'm glad I found a new spot in Raleigh, NC! This place is, well, gold! Pardon the wordplay, but we had a great dinner here after deciding to enjoy several small plates rather than a traditional meal. We were greeted promptly at the door, then decided to eat upstairs because it was lively. Although we sat at a 2-top table along the wall, we never felt cramped or too close to the next table. In fact, it was nice to see some of the plates coming out so we could ask the server what they were! We were impressed that the servers seemed to have some sort of wireless communication with the kitchen, because our food came out fast! We never waited more than about 5-10 minutes, which means the plates came out very warm indicating they had been freshly cooked. Our favorite of the night was the Grilled Jerk Chicken because it was so tasty and presented right in front of us! The Black Pepper Crispy Calamari was also excellent, with perfectly cut and quick-fried calamari that was coated in just enough black pepper to enhance the rings! The Lumpia Chicken was also very flavorful with the five spice flavor drizzled over the mini-greens and well-portioned chicken in the lumpia - another excellent dish! The Charred Scallion Noodles were an interesting carb that also included five spice - delicious as well! Confit Fingerling Potatoes rounded out the meal with a great combination of prosciutto and honey! For us, it was all about the meal. This was my second trip to ORO l, first was a few years ago but that experience wasn't that great to go back again. A friend wanted to try the place so I sacrificed myself :) the food here really wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Priced really high for what they consider a tapas places and to order 3-4 tapas per person. The server will try and upsell you on things, not entirely listening to what was asked for. The ambiance is decent a little choppy but that wasn't the problem. Our best dish was truffle mac and cheese. The drinks both cost around 18 and 20 for a few sips. Second time around and I still don't think I would pay that much for the food that was delivered, unless you are in theatrics and not the actual flavor. Was in Raleigh for a Galentines weekend and decided on Oro for dinner. We had an 8:30 reservation on a Saturday night and was able to walk right in. We were seated at the top as a party of 4 at a very small table that had us a little concerned but we rolled with it. The waitress started us with waters and took drink orders and things got sort of interesting from there. Long story short we didn't leave until after 11 because all of our food came out staggered. We all ordered at the same time but the food came out in bit by bit. One of my friends ordered the Prawns, which she said was mushy and had to send them back. A different server brought out our food and the waitress could have done better with making sure to check in with us and give an expectation of when the rest of the food would be out. My biggest gripe was just really the service because all of the food that I tried was delicious. We had 2 different types of steak, the Lumpia, Mac and cheese and Mushroom Carbonara. The Chocolate done had a cook presentation and the banana bread pudding was amazing. I would visit again either hopes that service is a little smoother. Parking was iffy. There is a lot across the street but it filled up quickly. We were able to find street parking close by so it was fine. read more

Went to celebrate a friends birthday, great food, loud music, live music, great vibes, unique ambiance, staff was young but very friendly. Service varied as they where packed but everyone was having a great time so it fit the vibes. If any was there last night I did loose a lion head pendant about the size of a half dollar. read more
