Quality work on both My dry cleaning and alterations. Orpheum is the only place I trust with either. So glad they are OPEN again.

I dropped a sport coat off knowing I needed it for a Friday event. It had a few minor stains which they noted and said it would be done at 2:00 Friday which they also noted. I asked for a copy of the ticket which was met with "we don't do that". I found that odd but ok. I went at 3:30 Friday and the woman working initially could not find it. Her: Are you sure you didn't drop it off somewhere else Me: Positive it was here After a while she went through the stack of tickets and found the one for this jacket. Her: We'll at least now I know it's real but I still do not know where it is. She finally finds it, but not pressed. Me: OK I'll wait while someone presses it Her: Our presser is gone for the day She still made me pay the $15.00 even though they had not done the job. I get it home and guess what; the stains are still there Net - not done when promised - customer service was crazy bad - not pressed - stains not removed If there was a way to rate this place zero stars I'd do it. Michelle is an amazing seamstress. Her work is superb. She's done several alterations for me and they're outstanding.

This is my go to spot for all my alteration needs! The lady at the counter (I feel terrible for not remembering her name) is always extremely friendly and patient and the alterations are expertly sewn. In particular I love that the hems look like the original and don't have that clumsy hemmed look that I've had before at other places. They are also extremely accommodating for emergency needs and have on more than one occasion turned something around next day, when that's not their normal practice. Finally gave them the old college try, first and last time. I wanted to try them when first moving to the area 4 years ago but my work schedule made it completely impossible (closing at 4?!) Fast forward to working at home now, and I took the plunge. They are quick and the floor tile is pretty. Took three plain white blouses. $32 folks. Thirty two bones. That's about 10 cheap beers or 4 city martinis. I usually use the always open, no A/C, slightly sketchy but always reliable DaBaliviere Cleaners. And I'm going back. This order would have been about $11 AND they take credit cards now! For a quickie fix in this area, I'll stick with Express Valet or whatever that place is on kingshighway. And no, Orpheum still doesn't take credit cards. Can someone please open a state of the art, classy, reinvented style dry clean establishment? It's long overdue. I can't speak to the quality of their work. The customer service was lacking to say the least. I was greeted and asked about a zipper alteration on a coat. I was told "Oh thats going to cost more than the coat." How would you know how much my coat cost? The comment was rude and offensive. I asked for an actual quote and it came to $120, which is hundreds of dollars less than my coat, but still not the point. It's rude to suggest that you know the price of someone's garment. I finally said the price is not an issue and I want to get the zipper replaced and asked how long it would take. The response was "I'm behind 3-4 weeks for bridal wear." I'm a bride also, does it matter if it is bridal wear or a coat? It's still business and important to that potential customer. I asked for recommendations and was told to find some on Facebook. Very strange customer service and I will not return and do business there. read more

This business has impressed me. I took some drapes there to be dry cleaned, they turned out beautifully cleaned and pressed. Winter coats, nice dresses and suits, same thing and VERY reasonably priced. Michelle, the owner is very nice and professional. Her alteration skills are fabulous. I was hesitant because most every dry cleaners I've ever dealt with treat stains like a personal affront, and my son's surplice was quite dirty from the bag breaking open during our last move. Not only were they kind and efficient, the garment is now sparkling clean. I believe it is actually more beautiful than when we bought it. Great people. Great prices. Friendly service and professional cleaning. I've used Orpheum Cleaners 3 or 4 times and haven't been disappointed once. I live in the neighborhood, and I've noticed they always put the most interesting customer garments in their storefront window. I wanted to like this place -- the location is almost perfect and they keep things simple. And unlike others, I thought the service was prompt and friendly. I can even deal with the cash/personal check only requirement... However, I have to echo the other reviews: this place is WAAAY overpriced and they are somewhat deceptive about it... To my surprise when I picked up my three pants and three shirts, the cleaning costed me almost twice as much as I have paid at other reputable dry cleaners in the area. My total was $37.50. I was not given a receipt, so I can't detail exactly what part of the cleaning made it so expensive... In addition, there are no price lists anywhere in the store. I don't write Yelp reviews often, but this seems like a perfect case to do it: to prevent others from suffering the same surprise as I did. I will not be returning to Orpheum Cleaners and I recommend you do not either unless you have money to burn. read more

Here's the thing, I want to like this place. I want to love it. It's at the end of my block and would make my life so much easier if they were good. Actually the end service isn't bad, it's the getting there part. They do a good job dry cleaning your clothes. That is if you can find a time they're open. Because see, they're not open on Mondays or after 4pm. Huh?! A dry cleaners with those kind of hours? Who gets their stuff dry cleaned that is available during that time?! Most people that are heavy users of dry cleaners are those that work full time. I even work off hours and these hours are not good for me. And then there's the fact that it's mystery as to what the charge is for the service until you pick up your item and nearly have a heart attack when you find out you could've just used Dryel on your sweater 10x over and still saved money. And oh, yeah, you only have your debit card on you? Well, you're screwed because in 2014 this place only takes cash and CHECKS?! I write checks like 3x a year and one of those is for my taxes. Have been taking my suits here for over a year now. The people I've met there have always been tremendously friendly. The very personable blonde woman up front remembered me as a customer after just a few visits. When I needed a suit turned around in less than 24 hrs for an interview, they were happy to accommodate, even though they normally do not accept next day drop offs as late as I needed. read more

I had a dress hemmed and sleeves taken up here. The owner/seamstress - her name sadly escapes me was very friendly and set great expectations of price and timing -she met both. The quality of the work was fantastic. As a short gal I appreciate when hems have the same view as the original work. It's always a risk to take things somewhere new. My jacket is 2 years old, but I've never felt so confident in it because the length has never been quite right. The dress quickly became my fave this summer and I always get compliments. i need to praise this place for their willingness to help their customers. I brought a bridesmaid dress into them to get the length of my dress hemmed, they finished it promptly and it was picked up by my husband. unfortunately, I was in the middle of working my five consecutive night shifts and wasn't able to try on my dress until the day before I needed it. when I tried it on, I realized that my dress was too tight at my hips and too loose around my chest area. I ran straight to Orpheus and she remembered I was leaving the next day and was more than willing to help me out! she actually had finished it the same day but I was sleeping. regardless I am so thankful because when I tried it on, it fit perfectly! she definitely worked her magic. I decided to give this place a try, despite the not-so-great reviews, and I was really pleased with my experience. I think a lot of the bad reviews are from a couple years ago, before the ownership changed. I got a dress altered, and they did a great job for a reasonable price. I tried it on when I picked it up, and I noticed an unrelated issue (the dress stuck out a bit at the bottom of the zipper). She made a quick fix, free of charge, right then and there. read more

This place is an institution on South Grand for something like three generations now. You once could have got your hat blocked at the Orpheum Cleaners. Their experience shows in high-quality cleaning and customer service. They have your clothes when promised and will do rush-orders. Little extras, too: like finding and returning stuff you left in your pocket or doing some mending or alterations (on what has to be an antique sewing machine). They get you in and out super-fast. Franchise places may have their price promotions and coupons, but I prefer the value I get here and like the idea of supporting the sort of family-owned, family-operated business that is quintessentially (and unapologetically) midwestern. My own kids use the Orpheum as well and they are starting their own families with this or that special outfit getting cleaned or repaired there. So I'll just call this business time-tested. And who knows, maybe someday I'll need a hat blocked. read more

I just had two sports coats cleaned here. They turned out great despite some nasty stains, including large, week-old ketchup spots. I don't get my coats cleaned often, but the result was at least as good as I've had at other places. I was in a hurry and didn't read reviews before dropping off. When I looked later, I was concerned because of what others have said. Thankfully, my experience was very positive. Note that most of the issues discussed in other reviews seem to be resolved, as follows: * They now take credit cards. * Hours are now posted on the door, not just inside (I forgot to check the times, which might still be strange). * Price cards are prominently displayed next to the counter. * I received a receipt when I picked up and paid for the coats. There was no receipt when I dropped them off, but they went by last name and this was not an issue. * The service was exceptionally friendly on both drop-off and pick-up. As at least one reviewer has noted, they called and left a message when the coats were ready. I don't use dry cleaners very frequently, so I'm not sure how reasonable the price was ($35 for the two coats). I will call around to compare before going back. Still, they did a good enough job that I might pay a little extra to support this local business. I encourage others to give Orpheum Cleaners a try, since their cleaning is effective and their professionalism has apparently improved. read more

Let me start by saying you pay for what you get. This place is not cheap by any means. The price I paid for alterations I could have just purchased a new garment. That being said they do quality work and stand behind their craftsmanship. All dry cleaning and alterations are done in house. They don't send your items out to another location. Most dry cleaners today are just store fronts and send 90% of their work to a dry cleaning facility. I have gone to a cheaper dry cleaner and felt like I had been ripped off. At least with Orpheum I might pay a little bit more but I know I will be pleased with the final product. Since everything is done in house I wish they would come down on the prices a little bit. I still think they would be profitable and would gain a new customer base. I think Orpheum Cleaners is a family business. They have been around for awhile and should be here for many years to come. read more

$8 a sweater?? EIGHT dollars?? Would love to give this cleaners a higher rating, as the staff are friendly, they've been open in STL a long time, and they do good quality work. But I was absolutely flabbergasted when they told me what my total was: $32 for 4 regular, non-embellished sweaters. Sorry, but I don't have that kind of money to spend on dry cleaning. I have no idea what their other rates are as they are not posted anywhere inside (note to self: always ask what the price is before dropping off clothes). And they only take cash. This might be the worse, no it is the worse dry cleaner ever. Ridonkuously expensive. Never open and they don't care if you are there or not. I just moved to St Louis from Los Angeles and needed a new dry cleaner. This was my first and definitely my last trip here. It is hands down the most expensive dry cleaner ive ever been to in my life. Oh, and they dont take credit cards. I could handle that if the customer service was good. Believe me it wasnt. The lady behind the counter is snotty, curt, and not even a little friendly. This is the only business ive been to in St Louis where the people haven't been over the top nice. Avoid. And when I asked them to repress 3 shirts for me because there were wrinkles, the owner told me it would be ready on Wednesday. 2 days longer than it took to clean 8 shirts & a pair of pants. She said she doesn't press on the weekend because they don't even make money off of shirts, they just do it as a service to get people to bring their other business in. I dropped off a pretty big load of clothes and did not bother to ask what the rates were. Typically $80 to $90 but almost fell to the floor when she told me it was $185. I of course did not have enough cash on me as I wasn't expecting such a big charge. $8 for sweaters and pants and $18 for my wife's jacket. Come on man! Those are 2050 prices!! Just picked up some cleaning and clothing repair.....not only did they get the oil stain out of a shirt I had previously taken to 2 other cleaners, but my entire order including 3 sweaters, 3 dresses, 2 shirts, one pair of pants and a stitch repair on another dress was ready in less than 24 hours. If it weren't for their hefty price tag (my whole order was $120 +) they would get a great review. Next time I'll just take them the tough jobs. read more

I was was worried to try this place based on the reviews but it's very close to our house so I figured it couldn't hurt. My beloved down coat's zipper kept splitting. I took it in first thing in the morning and the lady working asked a few questions, pulled out a tool and delicately crimped the zipper clasp so it wouldn't pull apart anymore. When I inquired about the cost of dry cleaning she actually recommended I wash at home and gave me tips on how to do so, as it would be better than dry cleaning. I will always respect an establishment that does what's right for the customer even when they don't charge me a dime! read more

Orpheum Cleaners has been around for 100+ years. They definitely know what they're doing. They use the best cleaning products and they work hard to make sure you are satisfied. I feel very fortunate that Orpheum is close my home because it's very difficult to find a true professional cleaners nowadays. Orpheum deserves every bit of a 5-star rating, especially if you want your clothing done right, and I do. From this standpoint, the complaints about hours and prices are secondary in my view. read more

Just moved to STL recently, and decided to take my first load of dry cleaning to Orpheum since they're nearby, and I like to support small businesses. Upon returning home with my clean clothes I was going to write a detailed review, but realized that most of the previous reviews covered the problems I had. Strange hours, not posted except inside where they can't be seen in the dark, closed store - Check! No receipt on drop-off or pick-up - Check! Laundering more than clothes? Outrageous prices - Check! In the last ten years I lived in Los Angeles and Washington DC and have never been charged anything like this. Cash or check only - Check! I can only assume they don't take credit cards because they probably had people dispute the charge with the credit card company after they recovered from the shock of the prices.
