Who doesn't love an old Theater. The Orpheum in Wichita Kansas is one of the few well preserved theaters of it's type. It's amazing how all the one star features add up to five stars! Seats- terribly uncomfortable Acoustics- average by today's standards Room to roam- efficient space design squeezes you into your row and seat So I felt more than fortunate to see one of my all time favorite singer songwriters here! Just Jackson Brown with twenty five of his favorite acoustic guitars. The experience was ethereal and I don't expect it to be duplicated, in a venue of any age. So,when we get back to normal I'll be seeking out these lovely ladies of yor to see my favorite performers. read more

The theatre is beautiful but it needs some renovations. We sat in the balcony, and if you are tall like we are, I highly do not recommend. There was 2 inches for my legs, I'm not even kidding. If we weren't on the end, we wouldn't have been able to stay. My bf's legs were in the aisle and I was spread eagle almost. We had to move up a row because the lady next to us was very large and it made it super uncomfortable. Probably won't come to another show here. read more

What a beautiful venue in Wichita. We are so fortunate to have the Orpheum here. I was headed there last week on a beautiful evening and I caught a smell that was horrific. It was a dog feces smell, but it was so overwhelming like a very dirty dog kennel. I was so sad to see it was coming from the beautiful green area across the street. It was packed with dog crap from large dogs. So much of it was around the edge of the green area, I could not have walked out in the green space if I wanted. My friend from Omaha said their city would never tolerate this animal littering. Can the Orpheum please bring this to the attention of the city council member for the downtown area? Is there an Ordinance or fine to address this unhealthy environment? It's all over the sidewalks downtown too. What a shame our downtown area has become a sewer! read more

Beautiful theater. This just may be the second largest theater I've been to. The architecture is breath taking and the climb all the way up to the upper decks provides a nice relaxation. The higher the more quiet the vibe is and the lights are darker. This is a great theater to present classic movies and recent movies as well. read more

The Orpheum is a beautiful historic atmospheric theater. They're currently working hard to bring it back to it's original state. The ceiling has little specks of light on it that look like stars. It really is quite a sight to see. They regularly have a wide variety popular artists perform there. It seats close to 2000 people and fills up often. It always a sounds great due to it's traditional design made for acoustic efficiency. The seats are a bit uncomfortable but I believe they have plans to replace them. The place is mostly run by volunteers that do a pretty good job keeping events going smoothly. One small complaint is that they don't really have a full service bar. They offer a small variety of mixed drinks and beer. The bar service isn't the fastest or most efficient due to it being tended by volunteers. So during large events the lines get pretty long. Overall it really is a phenomenal place. Every time I go I notice another small detail that I missed before. I could stare at their "sky" all day. read more

This place has it all! After my grandparents and my parents, I'm third generation to enjoy the entertainment provided by this timeless establishment. From the deco-style neon sign that illuminates the corner of Broadway and First Street in this historic piece of Wichita, the Orpheum is designed to host a myriad of high quality entertainment. This turn of the century style venue hosts musical performances, movies, comedy and theater of all styles. From their classic film series in conjunction with Tallgrass Film Festival to many comedy acts, I've always enjoyed the superb room acoustics tuned precisely for live music performance. Having performed at The Orpheum myself I can attest to it sounding good for the audience and the performer alike. The Orpheum staff is always attentive, professional and dresses so cute with cumber-buns and bow-ties where appropriate. A red vested ticket taker greets you outside the impressive box office and welcomes you to their classic style popcorn and soda refreshment bar just before entering the theater which often serves adult beverages too. High quality spacious bathrooms await those needing a quick refresh and the balcony provides great seating for those wanting to avoid the floor seating without missing any of the action. Recently acquiring funds to start renovations, you can see the progress take shape with each new visit to this excellent piece of Wichita history. Visit before it's all "new" again! read more

Went to see Pretty in Pink tonight as part of their film series. Wowwww. This place is one of the most beautiful theatres I've seen, ever, and is easily my favorite place in this whole town. Detail after gorgeous crumbling detail took my breath away and that was BEFORE we climbed the stairs to the balcony. Won't describe it here, in case it should ruin the surprise for you. The ushers were kind to answer our questions after the show about the gradual restoration and informed us that it is "one of the finest remaining examples of atmospheric school of theatre architecture which was developed during the first part of the 1900's"....it's all on the website, even a video with interviews. Got the last slice of Knolla's pizza served up from an insulated pouch right at the start of the show~ no longer hot but still good, somehow. Cocktails also served up smartly just at the rear of the theatre. Plea to the restorers: Please don't tear out those red velour seats!! read more

Great historic theater here in Wichita. Small intimate venue for bands, theater, and plays. Amazing architecture, will be nice to see it completely refurbished to its original grand state. read more

Visiting the Orpheum Theatre feels like traveling back in time. The theater was built in 1922 and has the vibe of old Hollywood. The Orpheum is very ornate but is small enough that every ticket holder will be guaranteed a good seat. This theater is a Wichita landmark and I enjoy looking at it every single time I drive past, even though I've lived here 26 years! Some parts of the theater are showing normal signs of wear and tear but it is currently undergoing a huge renovation. My only complaint about the Orpheum is that the chairs are extremely uncomfortable, I have trouble sitting still during any event that I go to. read more

Neat theatre, Entrance is updated this nice jewel in Wichita. The staff was polite and helpful. The prices of the concession are reasonable.

I do like visiting the Orpheum for the few shows I have gone and they have done a decent job keeping its good historic look. I personally am not a fan of the chairs because they squeak so much but still it's a great place to go. Their staff is always friendly and patient with having so many people in there. I do have to say compared to all other places, they do a GREAT job keeping bathrooms cleaned and with 24 stalls you are in and out of there quickly. I think the place only fits about 2,000 or so people but when the show is over it nice to be able to walk out of the side doors instead of everyone shoveling out the same doors they came through at the front. If you buy tickets try and get them for the main floor, I personally am not a fan of sitting that high up on the balcony, the one time I sat up there it was also under construction. Check the Orpheum out! You will be glad you did. read more

We went to see Brian Regan last night. The staff was nice. We got to our seats and the springs get like they were sticking out. As soon as I sat I felt like bugs were crawling all over me. Once we left there we realized we both had bugs bites all over our legs at the back of our knees where our legs touch the seat. Nice place besides whatever bugs they have. read more

These theaters are insane here. It's like stepping into history. Absolutely beautiful. Everyone I have met in this town is incredibly nice. I'm so excited to show my movie "Waffle Street" in this historic theater. I mean the theater belongs in a movie. It would be a great location. read more

5 stars for the cast and performance of White Christmas, 5 stars for the ambiance (for Wichita), 2 stars for the food. 3 stars for the service. I had to break this down. The cast's performance was comparable to anything I had seen in NY, Chicago and KC! It was our first trip to the Orpheum in Wichita and what a surprise. It takes you back a few years and what a treat. The server tried hard, but overall seemed to be understaffed. But difficult to staff something that goes in a flury for a few minutes at a time and then wait for the performance. I am sure efficiency is the key to business survival and keeping costs to a point where the public will still pay the price of admission. The food.....well....not much to report. Disappointing would be the best descriptive. Don't go hungry and leave with the intent that the night is still young and stop somewhere on the way home. The performance alone was worth the price of admission. Give it a try. read more
