After days of eating local cuisine, my dad and I were really craving Asian food, so we decided to try Orquidea, hoping for some authentic Thai flavors. While it wasn't exactly what we were looking for, it was good enough to satisfy the craving. We ordered the yellow curry and pad see ew. Yellow Curry - It had a nice slightly spicy, gingery flavor, which I enjoyed. There was a decent amount of chicken, though I definitely wish there had been more. The vegetables were a nice touch, but the eggplant was a little undercooked and could have been softer. Pad See Ew - This. didn't really taste like traditional pad see ew--it was more like Chinese-style fried rice noodles. The flavors were okay, but it was pretty oily, and it definitely needed some of the spicy seasoning to bring out more flavor. The portion of beef was also disappointing, with only about 10 small pieces of meat, which wasn't what I expected. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but it wasn't amazing either. If you're craving Asian food, it's satisfying enough, but if you're looking for authentic Thai flavors, you might be a bit disappointed. read more

Thai restaurant in San Miguel de Allende! Some comfort food for 3 Asian women on holiday! Not crowded at all. Only one table full is generally not a good sign, but we needed rice & other comfort food. We started with the fresh shrimp rolls with peanut sauce. Then the tuna satay. Tuna was a bit fishy tasting but good. We ordered Tom Ka soup with tofu. Quite a bit of mixed veggies in the soup, but not over cooked at all! Met the owner who is also the cook! Very nice lady! We ordered tonight again. I think a different chef. Not as good as usual. I had the fried rice with chicken that my partner usually has and it was bland overall. I had to season it. I know they don't do cilantro but it needed that grassy flavor, it was off point. My partner tried it as it's is his favorite. He agreed as it wants not like the last times. Again we ordered the pad Thai with chicken as that is one of my favorites and I tried the dish as we each do one dish. We don't share, lol, but t was so bland as well. I order the fried spring rolls, they had great flavor but could have been fried a bit longer as they were not crispy throughout. We will keep ordering as we love Thai food and we love this restaurant. Bad night with the chef. I would give it a 3 star if it was my first time eating there but it's not. Their track record is good with our dozen doing with delivery and eating in. read more

Outstanding. From the minute you walk into this place you know it's special. The art, decor and the service is impeccable. The food was next level delicious. Some of the best Thai food I've had in any country. Then you get to know the owner and the garden and it just makes everything better. A beautiful woman played music in the corner as we dined. We really wanted to like the Thai food here. The server was so friendly and accommodating, a jazz band played, alas the food was short of real yummy Thai food, unless we were there on an off night. Pad thai was overly sweet and peanut flavored...some of the essential spices and fish sauce seemed to be missing, and the tom yum was insanely bitter. Again spices were missing. Papaya salad was light and refreshing, but not memorable. In their defense, when we complained about the tom yum, they remade it, but it was maybe 20% better tasting. The Owner needs to retire and close its restaurant down. Though she was very nice, not so much I can say about the food. This was the worse Thai restaurant I've eaten at in my entire life. My friends and I ate at this horrible restaurant and the only thing good and consistent was the Coca Cola soda. We ordered Thai Basil chicken and it didn't have any chicken in it. It was just filled with vegetables as well as the watery yellow curry beef that didn't have any beef. Everything was just bad. From the dry Pad Thai shrimp noodles that didn't have any shrimp and the Tom Yum soup that was disgusting which was also filled with vegetables. No wonder this restaurant was empty when we arrived. I complained to the owner and she tried to fix the dishes we ordered but it was just twice as bad. I honestly believe the owner tries to save money by filling the dishes with cabbage vegetables stuffings so we won't notice that there were not meat, shrimp and chicken in our orders. Shame on the owner for being deceitful. The San Miguel municipal should close this horrible restaurant down. read more

It's a little tricky to find, you'd easily walk right past it as it's nothing but a small doorway with stairs that lead you immediately underground. The food here was ridiculously good. Better than any Thai food I ever had in the states. Lots of vegetarian options and if you order the tofu option they also add in soy crumbles that add a really nice additional texture and flavor. The veggies were well cooked with just a little bit of a nice crunch to them still. The people who work there are really nice and while I would usually never choose Asian inspired foods over Mexican food I'm really glad my family made me come here! read more

If you want Thai food in Mexico this will do. But, if you're familiar with good Thai food and you're in Mexico you can do better eating Mexican food and wait to have really good Thai food else. This is nothing special at all. read more

A little known secret that they also offer amazing thai massages. Maria is an excellent masseuse. I love hard, deep tissue massages with stretching which is exactly what it is. The owners are very kind Thai people who also speak perfect English and provide excellent customer service. read more

This place used to be fantastic. Now the service is super slow. The floor looks dirty. The steep stairs leading down to the restaurant are treacherous and desperately in need of replacement carpeting. The quality of the food, and of the soups in particular, has gone way downhill. They put sticks of ginger in the soups that, should you bite into one, may require a visit to the dentist. There are many much better places to eat. Eso no es bueno. read more

Last night my partner and I tumbled into this Thai restaurant which completely blew me away. The entrance is a staircase that lead us to an underground area where the tables are neatly set and the purple walls are calming. Adding to the calming effect, was a women playing an instrument that produced soothing music. We ordered the Bangkok Dumplings, Vegetable Pad Thai, and the Green Curry with chicken. Everything was delicious. They use organic ingredients, and the vegetables...well they actually taste like vegetables. The dishes were very flavorful and filling. After dinner, our server brought us a complimentary mint tea that was much appreciated because I was so full. Highly recommended spot! read more

Great to find a Thai restaurant in Mexico! I was desperately needing my fix after a month traveling with no southeast Asian food. I'm definitely a connoisseur of pad thai so as always at a new Thai place I ordered it with shrimp. While it was good it was probably the least authentic pad thai I've had. It was chocked full of vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, onion, and Cabbage but no bean sprouts or garlic chives! It tasted good but it wasn't the simple elegant pad thai I was dreaming of. It also had a ton of shrimp but they were tiny and overcooked. The noodles and vegetables were also a touch overdone but nothing too bad. All in all I liked it and very much liked the ambiance but was hoping for just a little more. read more

Two of us enjoyed the ambiance, the soulful voice of a female artist and oh yes, wonderfully tasty food. As we eat Thai weekly in the States, our taste buds were on alert. We were not disappointed. Spices, textures and of course taste were all equal to any Thai restaurant we have eaten at. The staff were very professional while also displaying an appropriate level of friendliness. Oh yes, it was a pleasant surprise that our waiter was bilingual (5 languages I believe.). The prices were very reasonable and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend. One of my favorite places to eat in SMA. I have been going and taking everyone I know there for over 3 years and they all love it. I have never been to Thailand but think i know good food. We have ordered food from Orquidea several times in the past and it has always been satisfactory. Not any longer! We ordered 4 different entrees last week and all were inedible! We threw out the majority of the food, which is not something we do lightly. My daughter ordered WonTon soup, it came in a small bowl with a mix of what seemed to be reheated frozen vegetables, a small amount of broth and not a WonTon in sight! All of the vegetables in each entree seemed to be frozen, not fresh. The chicken satae, was dry and tasted processed, the Tom Kha Gai was watery and without flavor, the Thai Red Curry equally tasteless. It took over an hour for delivery, so it was too late for an alternate restaurant delivery. Luckily, we had some frozen chicken nuggets in the freezer! I can only assume their regular cooking staff was out sick, but I will not be ordering from them again.:( read more

The original restaurant on Zacateros is one where I take all my guests who visit San Miguel because the quality of food and service there is consistently outstanding. The owner has recently been working diligently on a second Orchidea location on Real A Queretaro 173 which will offer some Vietnamese dishes and has spa facilities in addition to the restaurant. Jorge from the Zacateros location was kind enough to give me the contact information for Vanessa at the new place. She kindly invited my friends and I to dine with them and sample some of the dishes that will be offered at the new Orchidea Garden and Spa location. To say that we had a good experience there would be an understatement, because it was so much more than just another restaurant meal. We met the owner Mina (forgive me if the spelling of her name is incorrect) who not only personally waited on our table but also enthusiastically gave us a background of her own world-wide travels and her love of San Miguel de Allende. We toured her new facility, and listened to her stories of loving animals and gardening in addition to her love of cooking. The meal was delicious, of course, since most of the ingredients were grown by her personally, and the food was up to the high standards she serves to her own family members.
