He suggested he could give me a cortisone shot. Due to me being extremely allergic to Polyethylene Glycol in which I have an anaphylactic reaction (Dr. Phillips is aware of this as it noted in my record.). When he suggested the a cortisone shot my wife and I asked at the same time "Does the shot contain Polyethylene Glycol." His response, "not that I'm aware of". Knowing what happens to me you would think he would review the ingredients. Well Polyethylene Glycol was the main ingredient of the cortisone shot and I had a serious Anaphylactic reaction. I felt sick immediately after the shot and the front desk receptionist brought me to the bathroom and left. My wife came to find me a few minutes later and I was on the floor unconscious. She new immediately what happen. Everyone in office came running and 911 was called. Nobody got an EpI pen, Dr Phillips stood there and said to me, "my husband passed out." I was rushed to Newton Wellesley hospital and it was so severe and was a touch and go situation. Dr. Philllips negligence caused harm and unnecessary body and organ stress to me that could have resulted in death. it would have taken a few minutes to investigate the ingredients in the shot. I reported this to the medical board and they decided not to recommend disciplinary action. He was more or less slapped on hand and the Complaint Committee sent him a letter to "remind him the importance of reviewing and verifying ingredient labels when a specific question is raised by a patient with allergy concern". I would think twice before considering an appointment with him. A concerned and caring doctor would have at least called me to see how I was doing. That tells you something. ML - Sept 23, 2025

They have done much more harm to me than good. I started at ATI in West Roxbury about 3 years ago…read morefor a lumbar herniated disc I was hospitalized for. The pain was only in my back and the spine surgeon said I didn't need surgery. The physical therapist Elle was great at first, but before she left to work out of state I got put with a travel physical therapist and the PTA. After a few months of PT here, I started to notice pain in my left hip. I had the physical therapy assistant Brandon that day and he said it was piriformis syndrome, even though as the PTA he isn't qualified to say what it is or isn't, but that's what Elle and the office and PT went with for exercises for me. Then a couple weeks later I went for a walk and it felt like my entire left leg was broken. I did not know this was nerve pain from my herniated disc, but ATI should have known this as herniated discs are common for outpatient physical therapists - and they should have realized that's what the hip pain was. They kept giving me all these stretches and the pain kept getting worse and I could not be on my feet for more than 2 minutes without having excruciating 20/10 pain. It ended up spreading to my left labia too. I had another MRI and the herniation enlarged significantly and caused severe spinal stenosis and was compressing my nerves. The following appointment I talked to the physical therapy manager Colleen and I told her the pain was now spreading into my labia and I was concerned about leg/back stretching exercises they were giving me. They already had my new MRI results and she, with physical therapy training was trying to tell me my spine (bone) itself it's stenosed "spinal stenosis, your spine bone" and I said "No, that can be one cause of spinal stenosis, but it's the size of the herniated disc compressing my nerves, my physiatrist (pain doctor) said this as well and that this is the largest herniated disc he had seen." I could not be on my feet for more than a couple minutes without excruciating pain and still had bad pain sitting and lying down just less severe for about 6 months I could barely be on my feet. I looked up the exercises they were giving me online and it said they all pull at your nerve root, which is not good for an enlarged acute herniated disc and stopped going to them. After my disc enlarged and caused radiating debilitating nerve pain in PT, I was then told by the surgeon I now needed surgery. I found a wonderful chiropractor that does noninvasive spinal decompression as I wanted to avoid spine surgery as much as possible, especially since it was due to getting worse in PT. This helped significantly, but I still have problems and it set me back a lot in both my professional and personal life. I would have been better off just resting and walking to heal than going to PT here.

You come in, have it done, have an answer immediately, and walk out of the office! One time showed I did not need surgery on my left knee and the other time showed it was necessary on my right knee. I happily drive past other sports medicine locations, to be treated by Dr. Gill and his staff. Nicole ensures the appointment is when I can make it, patiently, as my schedule changes every couple of weeks. She has set up my surgery and vision scope appointments, as well as my regular appointments. She is always nice, professional, and works to make sure the appointments match what you can make. I've been seen by Bryan Petrone and have felt very comfortable in his care; he is extremely knowledgeable and honestly cares very much about my knees (my main problem). He has assisted in the surgeries that have kept me going; I have seen him, by himself, for appointments, and provided follow-up information to him, when needed. I feel just as comfortable in his care, as with Dr. Gill. He has also ensured I can keep doing my job. Sheryl Hassett has helped me, for as long as Dr. Gill has helped me. She ensures my surgery went well, helped me when my post-op pain was hard to bear (I refused pain meds, I needed, stupidly), and that my over all care is successful. She has been there, for me when I learned my knees were bad, to now, where I am still doing a job that isn't a sit-down job. She really cares about you, how you are doing, and that you have everything you need for your care. Dr. Gill, and his team, are truly a dream team. I don't trust anyone else with my knees and drive over an hour, to be taken care of, by them. I could be seen by someone closer, but why would I do that if I can be seen by them!! I feel just as important as the sports players the team has treated and trust them, completely, with all aspects of my care. I highly recommend you be taken care of by Dr. Gill, and his team; I also highly recommend the vision scope! What an amazing procedure and equally amazing Sports Medicine Team!!

I worked with Sammy and Kait who are both excellent therapists. At age 77 and with COVID changing everyone's life (I have not contracted it and am fully vaccinated ) I know that I have been loosing muscle mass. On top of that I was thrown off a horse about a year and a half ago and continue to deal with the broken shoulder ,several broken ribs and a punctured lung I suffered. So I needed help getting back in shape. Both women worked hard to evaluate the various problems and work out exercise and stretching routines that would help me regain much of what I had lost. There were about 10-15 different movements, stretches, lifting I needed to work on to get the job done. I worked diligently on my own and many times with them, and feel I have made great progress! I walk 3-5 miles a day, play golf, flyfish, carry my grandchildren around etc. So, even though I have not found the fountain of youth, my vigorous life is back. Thank you Sammy and Kait!

My teenage daughter was hospitalized for almost three weeks in Albany Medical Center as she fought for her life after being diagnosed with a misunderstood eating disorder called Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). Her Digestive system was shutting down, and every meal was causing GI pain. She suffered from extreme anxiety, PTSD, and depression and had zero quality of life. After "force feeding" her to get her to stabilize medically, the hospital discharged her without a solid care plan in place. She was still struggling through every bite and the anxiety and physical discomfort each moment brought her. She would no doubt have been re-hospitalized within weeks of her discharge if it had not been for Dr. Helm. He carefully evaluated her two days after her hospital discharge. Dr. Helm provided caring attention for four days straight, diagnosed some neurological issues causing her anxiety symptoms, and literally "woke up" her digestive system within one four-hour session. My daughter literally said that her food tasted good again after one of four sessions! She could actually enjoy food and get through a meal without pain, discomfort, panic, nausea, and anxiety for the first time in an entire year or more! What was just as remarkable was the fact that her anxiety was down. We saw peace come over her for the first time in years while working with Dr. Helm. We watched her transform before our eyes and now had a fighting chance to recover successfully. Our daughter left treatment with Dr. Helm, a different person than when first arriving at his door. After the treatment, he gave her some brain exercises to do on her own and followed up with us often to check in on her progress. It has been seven months since our visit, and she has fully recovered and moved on with new confidence, succeeding in college! Dr. Helm is nothing short of a miracle worker.
