Set aside the staff that doesn't greet you... ignore the fact the assistant was irritated to take notes and interactive skills were literally zero... The office was extremely unorganized, at one point the from desk employee received a message asking if a patient was ready and said "who the f*ck (name)". When taken back, the MA did not introduce themselves before quickly asking multiple questions, leaving little room to provide answers. It appeared the staff was trying to make up time, due to running 30 mini behind. When the PA-C, came into the room, they didn't know what was effected in the X-rays, asking the patient, and then returning 1 minute later stating everything was fine. the PA-C appeared to be quickly moving through her exam and dismissive of any concerns that were stated. Overall, not a good experience and would suggest going somewhere alternative. read more

The office staff is very nice, but I waited an hour and a half before I even was brought back then an additional 20 minutes after that. I understand there are different doctors, but about 20 people came and left before I had even been taken back. I wish they would've pushed my appointment back or been upfront about the wait time so I could reschedule. read more

These guys have gotten way too big and bureaucratic. Avoid and find a better run smaller ortho practice. I went to their Instant Ortho in Gilbert twice with severe back pain. They finally ordered an MRI, which showed I had a fractured back. But nobody called to inform me and I had to fight for two days to get the results myself. By the time I did get the results, I'd done far more damage to my back through PT and chiropractic (as evidenced by a second MRI 5 days later) requiring far more extensive surgery than the original MRI called for. (Four days in hospital and 18 weeks so far in recovery care including back brace and PT....more than $10K in out of pocket so far) I filed a complaint with management and asked that they simply credit back the useless MRI cost (which cost me $300 out of pocket) and they refused, saying the MRI was needed. Will NEVER go back to this practice and absolutely do not recommend. read more

Terrible experience! Front office doesn't know what they are doing! Don't try and call them, That'll be your next nightmare! It's a struggle to get any appointment made anything done had PRP in my knee and that took weeks to get scheduled! They forgot about me! Just a total mess! When I went in the back, the medical assistant was looking at my shoulder where to inject. I said it's my knee. I'm getting injected! After my PRP injection, I was provided with no information on what to expect. I was given no instructions, I had to ask for them! This was my first visit with Dr. Matthew Hansen, and he was attentive, honest, and actually listened to what I've been going through. I appreciate that his approach is, "let's take care of this," instead of letting me suffer any longer. He didn't make empty promises, but he showed real care and urgency. As a glorified "ER" you are better off going to Banner Urgent Care. They have a lot more options for same day treatment. read more

What a terrible place to come for medical care. I accompanied my elderly mother since she needed my help. The waiting room was packed. We were taken back for her x-ray on time, but then we were placed in a room and basically abandoned for an hour. I poked my head out at the thirty minute mark and they just shrugged me off like "Be patient, lady." At the forty five minute mark I asked about the guest WiFi code. Can you believe they wouldn't have any WiFi signal in the building for you while you're trapped waiting? Nice. When we finally met Dr. Udell he did apologize and was very nice but I felt like the damage was done. Someone should have been updating us about the delays, not shutting us away. Both my mom and I felt like this was a place we would never care to return to. As I went to leave this review I saw that many others had left one star reviews- something to note. I rarely leave such low reviews myself. I can handle a delay but what I don't appreciate is a complete lack of communication and dismissiveness. read more

The Staff and Medical assistants where very courageous and professional. However that got Damn Dr . Spencer Cahalan is a cocky little shit! He aspirated fluid and administered a cortisol shot to my knee with an ultrasound and somehow managed to pierced the other side. MRI stated I have medial and lateral tears left and right sides of meniscus ; a cyst. Osteoarthritis Doc gives me a knee brace told me go back to the gym.. follow up with Dr. Shelden Martin in 3 months. I been going to these doctors since November 17 going on three months I'm suffering while they may be great for some the level of care and compassion is very low in my case! My PC tells me she scared for me I need surgery but sends me right back to this place , I want to ask both these Quakes if I was your Mother ,daughter , sister , or aunt would you have treated me the same?? As mentioned in some other reviews there is typically a line for check-in that will be 3 to 15 people deep, so even arriving 15 minutes early may not be enough. My appointment was at 9:45am and I was called out of the waiting room around 10:10am (almost 30 minutes late). The staff was nice and when Dr. Patterson was able to see me he was very nice and professional. He looked at my injury and because he was uncertain on the issue he ordered an MRI. I did the MRI two days later and was told that someone would be contacting me from Patterson's office soon for a follow up visit/appointment. I waiting almost a week and no one called, so I decided to call instead of waiting longer. Upon contacting OrthoAZ for a follow up appointment I was informed that Dr. Patterson's first available appointment would be in 2 months. I was shocked by a 2 month wait to see the Dr again and expressed my disappointment. Shania was very nice and was trying to help but after 20+ minutes of back and forth (of being on hold) she finally said she would escalate this directly to Dr. Patterson's office and they would be contacting me soon. I did receive a call from Dr. Patterson's office directly the following day and was offered the same exact dates 2 months down the road. I expressed that my ankle hurt and I cannot wait 2 months. There were no other solutions offered and I expressed that I thought this was very unethical and decetful to bring on a new patient and schedule them for an immediate MRI and then not be able to see the Dr. for a follow up for 2 months. I don't get it! Why would someone take on a new patient and not disclose the fact that you can't see them again for 2 months? This defy's all logic and common sense. Now I have wasted time, money and energy all so I can go find a Dr that will schedule a follow up visit in a responsible and reasonable amount of time. Imagine walking around with an injured ankle for 2 months after your initial appointment and then if this issue requires some sort of surgery I would guess that would be at least another 2 months after that office visit. So potentially a 4+ month wait to start the healing process. Wow! All I can say is that if you are okay with a 4 month wait then go for it! This review has nothing to do with Dr. Patterson's bedside manner or his abilities as a Dr. I am actually happy for him that he is this busy, but I would hope his staff would be honest and forthright with new patients before they schedule them for anything in the future. It is not reasonable nor normal to wait 2 months for a follow up visit to read my MRI. read more

As usual, I had a great experience. The wait time was short, and Dr. Hansen was very thorough while examining my knee after surgery. He drained the excess fluid that was left from the swelling and gave me a cortisone shot to help with the inflammation and pain. I flew down from Colorado last week for an appointment. This was the main purpose for my trip. I was very specific on the phone about my hip injury and what type of surgical pathway I was looking for. I just needed it completed at home in Az for continuation of care after getting a total work up out of state. They scheduled me with the wrong doctor who doesn't treat my type of issue. The one I told them about. It was a useless visit. Then my complaints, Plural, went unanswered for well over a week. When I finally had a return call where they left a message, her extension didn't work when I correctly typed it in. Called a second time to double check. It still didn't work. Avoid this place and its band of unhelpful morons at all costs. It's aggravating that I need to put my life on hold for their unapologetic mistakes. read more

I was scheduled for a total knee replacement on my right knee on 11-7-24. I saw a PA right after I injured my knee on 9-20-24 and Dr. Swenson on 10-9-24. During both doctor visits, I was told that surgery would be required and that as long as I could get clearance from my pcp and cardiologist, everything would be ok. Today, I saw Bret Lopez for my pre-op appointment. He starts off by saying there were a couple of problems. First, my hemoglobin was too low. Second, my bmi was too high. Because of these two things, my surgery was canceled. He was very rude in his demeanor. When I questioned him about why my bmi was not mentioned until now, he didn't know. He proceeded to tell me how to lose weight. He also mentioned twice that it was my hip that was being operated on. My daughter reminded him that it was my right knee. He told me that swimming or stationary biking would be good for the knee. However, both the other pa and Dr. Swenson had me on no load bearing or exercize for the knee. read more

I never leave reviews but this place needs one. Plan on spending a looong time for each appointment and get there very early. I waited in line to check-in for 20 minutes and then they told me I was late and nearly lost my appointment, which I'm sure they would have charged me for. Then I waited for 30 minutes more to be called back and here I sit. I feel like they are pushing as many people through as possible to maximize profits and it shows. Long waits and impersonal care. If this is their mentality when it comes to routine appointments I can only assume this attitude would carry over into the operation side of the business. Wow! I had one of the first surgery time slots of the day at 7am and they were so organized. The nurses were absolutely wonderful, helped each other out. It just seemed like a very friendly and good culture here. They got me all prepped for surgery and rolled me back at 7:02. Can't get much better than that. They kept in touch with my boyfriend several times throughout the surgery so he was very aware of how I was doing and the progress. They gave him all of the discharge instructions when he came to pick me up and they were just sweet. I would 10/10 recommend this place. Dr. Hansen was my surgeon and he must've done a great job, because even a week post op I still only have 2/10 pain. Only needed pain meds for the first 2-3 days and didn't even need them that much surprisingly. I need to get my second hip done and I will definitely come back here. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. MacQueen and Hoku, who I believe is his Physician's Assistant. They are both amazing! I came to Dr. MacQueen a nervous wreck and quite anxious about the knee pain I was experiencing. I have never felt rushed or pressured. I was given a list of options that worked for me and we talked through the pros and cons of each. I opted for total knee replacement and Dr. MacQueen did an amazing job and was wonderful throughout the process. No question was left unanswered before or after the procedure. He's open, honest, thorough, and most of all a caring physician. And I could go on and on about Hoku as well! A dynamic duo that I oh so appreciate! And I get compliments on my beautiful incision all the time. Apparently they are not always this discreet but Dr. MacQueen knows what he's doing! read more

Avoid this place at all costs. Caught a discrepancy on our bill and it is next to impossible to get anyone that has any authority on the phone to address it. People in the billing office are nice enough but management at the medical office location don't return calls or ever pick up the phone. I will make sure to never go there again or any of there other locations if they can't justify what they are charging. read more

First off, I worked in medicine for 10+ yrs previously. The quality of the staff here is horrible. Was not greeted with a smile or a hello. I had to ask to be checked in then was given paperwork with a grunt and a scowl. 2nd. Saw Dr. Song for a trampoline injury to my neck. Dr. Song introduced himself asked what happened. Tapped me a few places with a reflex hammer, without saying a word. Took me into the hall to show me one of my 3 X-rays taken. Said nothing is broken, I wont need surgery, and that my spine was straight due to muscle tension. Told me to take a steroid pack and do 6-8 weeks of physical therapy. There was no information given as to what to do about the pain. Hot/cold compresses? After care instructions....nothing. No explanation of what I did to my neck or explanation of how the physical therapy would help. After Dr. Song left (5min appt) I asked the M.A who walked me out why I would need physical therapy (to try to get more information). He said "In case you need surgery further down the road, than Ins will pay for it" huh? Dr. Songs bedside manner is definitely lacking. Since working in medicine I understand how some Dr's are that way. Which means the staff assisting should help to close up the appt answering any and all unanswered questions from the patient. That was not done. I could only get one question in with Dr. Song. Who's face turned red when asked. How dare I right? Was never asked by Dr. Or M.A. if I had any questions. After doing some of my own research. A straight spine means the patient has whiplash and Excercise or P.T. is DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED until the area heals. If the area is damaged during healing THAN surgery is NEEDED. Now it makes a sense as to why my appt was so short and was advised to work out an already stressed neck. Because in the end...they get their cash cow. Surgery! Disgraceful!! read more

Was driving to my appointment that was supposed to take place in 20 minutes and I received a phone call from the office staff saying they had to reschedule my appointment. I asked why and she said because they were alerted that there was an age restriction for the doctor I was going to see. He only sees patients over 50 and I am 43. Mind you, I made this appointment weeks ago on the phone with the office staff who knew my age because she took all of my information when she was booking me for this appointment. The office lady claimed she left me a voicemail yesterday. Even if she left me a voicemail yesterday to reschedule, why did they wait so long to let me know this when I booked weeks ago?!?! I took the day off from work so I could go to this appointment. She then told me I could go right now to their clinic, which is kind of like an urgent care, and see a PA if I wanted to. The whole point of this appointment was to see a knee specialist because I'm having issues with my knee after a surgery that I had almost a year ago. If I needed an urgent care, I would've went weeks ago. I wouldn't have scheduled an appointment with a knee specialist and waited this long. Very disappointed and will never rebook an appointment here again. read more

They are the only surgeons in the Valley who do the Jiffy Knee Replacement Surgery. It's a very interesting procedure but in the end it was a bit too radical for me. Also, they're located in Scottsdale which was a bit too far to really consider them. read more

Fantastic experience. The clinic was busy and packed, but my appointment was still on time despite that. Everyone here is polite and friendly. The process took no time at all, you get x-rays before you see the doctor. And everyone truly cares about your pain. My doctor told me to see him in six to eight weeks if PT doesn't work out. I've had many bad orthopedics before and I was afraid of seeing yet another one due to my past. But this certainly was a different kind of experience. They don't just tell you "well we can't do surgery so there's nothing we can do." They listen and try to provide you with some options and get you on pain medicine if needed. They have an online portal which is always a nice bonus, so you don't have to eat up time listing your medications and all that. (I take a ton of meds, and when an office provides online service, I am really happy not to have to take them all with me.) The place is kept clean and well maintained. Overall, I'd say this is easily the best ortho I've gone to. I don't get why the reviews are so bad for this place. read more

We have nothing bad to say about the surgery center however, if you ever have to deal with their billing department, good luck. We received two bills, along with the payment we made on the surgery day. On the second bill, they assured us that it was the final payment. We then received a third bill for $399.45. We made more than 5 calls requesting a recap of what the bill charges were and what had been paid by us and the insurance company. Each time we were told we would receive it within 2 weeks and we will email it to you as well. First of all, we never received any emails or anything in the mail, second, I'm sure it didn't take two weeks or 5 requests to send this information to get payment from our insurance company. Unfortunately, we will never use them again because of this. It is a shame because the surgery center was great. read more

I have been taking my daughter here since 6th grade. She is an athlete and now a college athlete so she has had her share of injuries. She is having an issue with her right shoulder recently so we called to schedule an appointment and the doctor she usually sees does not have anything available for over 6 weeks. So we requested a different doctor. The appointment person told us she HAD to see that same doctor and there was nothing she could do that is their policy. Very strange. So we made an appointment with Dr Mantanky at Arizona Ortho. He is amazing and we will not need going back to OrthoArizona. Everything happens for a reason! read more

The last time I had a simple appointment to review an MRI at 10:30 on a Thursday morning, and I didn't get in to see the Dr. until 11:45. Unacceptable - totally screwed up my day. I actually showed up at the wrong location 10 minutes before my appointment time. The location I arrived at tried to call the Melrose location to let them know I'd be five minutes behind but no one bothered to answer the phone. So I took off to quickly hurry over to my appointment. I arrived eight minutes late and was told I needed to reschedule because the PA didn't want to wait for me. Mind you I only needed like a five minute consultation and I've been waiting to get it for several weeks. After I had left the other location someone did finally pick up so they were aware that I was still coming and would only be a few minutes late and I was only late due to a mixup around which location to go to. (My previous appointments have been at the North Gilbert location). Super lame. read more

This review is about the billing/accounting department only! In March I received a bill for an office visit and neck collar. The bill said I owed only for the visit. I paid that bill. It was what I had expected based on the information I received from the Ortho Arizona employee who gave me the collar and said insurance would pay for it. I complained the collar did not fit and rubbed on my chin. The employee said take it anyway since i is free and you may need it later. Some time later I was told I had a balance of $38.38; however, when I asked the people at Ortho Arizona what for, they did not know and told me to call Billing. I called. Those people were not sure either but said it was probably the collar. I told them their own employee had encouraged me to take the collar, which did not fit, because it was free! They did not care. Recovering from surgery, I did not feel like dealing with these people so I sent them a check, even though they had never billed me for whatever! Now I still have not received a bill for surgery performed on March 31. And yes, when I pre-register I see I owe money. I was also told I owed money on my last visit, I said I'd pay when I saw an itemized bill. The employee told me I should receive it in a few days. That was April 18. Today is May 17. Still no bill! The medical staff of Ortho Arizona are wonderful but the reputation of this business is ruined in my eyes because of the Accounting/Billing staff! read more

I will not be going back. Their billing department has taken 10 months to still not deliver me a $900+ refund they agree they owe. I have worked on it, my insurance company has worked on it, and still it is not done. Also, the surgeon was mistaken on which fingers were to be operated on even after I called the office to correct the misinformation.
