Fraudulent charges and scary-poor medical care. Did not assess injury at all except for reading X-Rays, tried to charge $300 for a 70$ boot then gave no instructions for at-home care, exercises, prevention of further injury etc... Second visit took the wrong X- rays then charged for an office procedure that was never done. 3 letters, one certified, and multiple emails later, fraudulent bill was still sent to collections. Care that is IMO as a health-care provider myself, bordering on dangerous, coupled with unethical and likely illegal billing practices. read more

(4/26/24) My wife is having a spinal stimulator implanted into her back. We arrived at 6am. The surgery was supposed to be at 7am, but didn't actually start till 9:13am. I've been sitting in the waiting room ever since. I believe the surgery ended at 10:30am. My wife is still asleep and I haven't been called back yet. I had completely forgotten about this review. The stimulator was implanted incorrectly and as a result we are back on 6/28/24, so that the surgeon can orient the battery unit correctly. Quality of care has been haphazard. I arrived at an appointment very early and explained that at the front desk. I asked for an honest answer if I could possibly be seen earlier since it was a two second stitch removal (I've been here before for this when it didn't work the first time). They said it shouldnt be a problem. Two hours later I checked back in if they wouldn't be able to I'd like to wait in the car since it was an icebox inside. They said I should still be able to be seen since the afternoon appointments would soon open up. Well after waiting another 30 minutes and now getting close to my appointment time, front desk then tells me yes you may want to wait in the car since they're not going to be able to take you. Why wait two hours to say this? There wasnt any other patients here before me so clearly that wasn't the issue. I was very polite and didn't expect to be accommodated but clearly asked up front and would've just wanted some honestly. Amazing it's the same place that if you are more than 10 minutes late, they will reschedule you, as if they run a tight ship and their time is more important than yours. read more

I went to orthocarolina to sign a release form, I called about two weeks later asking what's taking so long I was told in a snotty attitude the doctors have thoroughly my past shoulder surgery report. Well I waited another two weeks called this time I was told they do have it , I called Richmond memorial hospital in Rockingham and they said they sent it same day a month ago and went ahead and sent it again, I call orthocaeolina back and they said they don't have nothing I asked for the fax number they gave it to me and it was the same as I told the lady brook at front desk, she then got a attitude with me saying I'm not going to argue with you call Richmond memorial hospital. As far as I know, the problem of insufficiency lies with the fact they are affiliated with Athena Healthcare now. They used to be excellent. I had two superb doctors in years past - one for hand and one for spinal surgery. Now they are limited to using nurses as the attending physician in the emergency room and one 10 minute visit with the follow up orthopedic foot specialist. I've never seen such deliberate neglect of care. The ER staff knew less than I do about commonly acknowledged treatment. The staff is on edge and the follow up doctor and his assistant appeared angry and depressed. read more

I saw Dr Gregory Kurkus in Huntersville at OrthoCarolina for a hip fracture. He was friendly, accessible, informed and helpful. He went over the CT Scans in detail and answered questions after the appointment electonically. I recommend this practice and Dr Kurkus highly. read more

My mom went to novant urgent care, had an xray and was referred to Orthocarolina Urgent care to get a better read on the xray. We get here, the receptionist was extremely nice and helpful, and made small talk with us, we felt welcomed. We waited about 30 minutes and were called back. The nurse tech took additional info and said the doctor would be right in. We waited another 30 mins before the Dr came in. He walked in the door like he was extremely fed up with the day and said, "What can I do for you?" I've heard other doctors enter the room and say this, but his tone was extremely rude, like he had not even looked over her chart before he walked in. My mom is older, and his tone really bothered her. She was upset and didn't want to talk to the doctor. I spoke for her and asked the questions. I told him we were referred here from urgent care to get an interpretation of the x-ray. He said, "Where is the xray, they didnt give it to you? He also asked if the nurse tech had taken an x-ray before he came in. I said no. I told him it was in her chart. I knew it was there because I saw it on the screen when we walked in the room with the nurse. She had the chart open. He said, "They dont put xrays in the chart." He literally storms out of the room, going off and we can hear him talking junk tobwhoever was at the nurses' station right outside of the door asking why did they send us here with no x-ray. A few minutes later, he walks back in and says the xray was in my mom's chart. He gives the diagnosis and tries to play nice. I didn't show my frustration because my mom was already pissed at the whole interaction, and I was being calm for her. I'm not going to not recommend the entire facility because of 1 bad apple. But Mr. Sanders-PAc needs to work on his bedside manners and delivery. The next person he encounters may not be as forgiving. read more

Not real sure how anyone that went to medical school would have thought for one second that it was ok to suture anyone in the manner. They could have woke me up from surgery and asked me to do it myself and I feel like I could have done a better job. Came to get my sprained ankle checked, as I've been having severe pain for over a month. Front desk staff, medical assistant and radiologist tech were nice and helpful. After taking my x ray I was told the doctor would come in shortly. I waited for 45 mins for the doctor to visit me. When he did, he spent less than 10 minutes talking to me. As I was trying to explain my concerns, he cut me off and told me to follow his steps and I will feel better. I had many questions that were left unanswered as he seemed in a rush to have me gone. They wanted to do an X-ray without the doctor even coming in to look at me. I saved $$$ by refusing. I was unimpressed with that first of all, and the way the doctor spoke to the nurses about how slow they were and how they could be doing more. Anyways, I wasted $$$ for just the visit. The only reason the doctor FINALLY came in to see me was because I did refuse the X-ray. He ignored my concerns about where my pain was at the moment and focused on my previous injury instead. I was concerned about both... he should've addressed Botha He said I have tendinitis... which is not even true after visiting my primary physician and a physical therapist. read more

OrthoCarolina doctors are wonderful! But May the lord help you if you need to schedule a service like an MRI! You will either be hold hold for HOURS or will never receive a call back. It will take you literally days to schedule an MRI so be prepared to have to take time off work or have nothing else to do! Literally!! While I want to recommend OrthoCarolina to everyone because the doctors are so good, not sure I can because if you need to do anything outside of speaking with your doctor the practice does not staff appropriately or care that you cannot get the services like an MRI that you need scheduled. read more

So, I want to say I was happy to be able to get a same day appointment, but after that it went downhill. Upon arriving as you know you get temperature checked. The front desk receptionists where pleasant as I was in extreme pain and made me laugh as I did them. I was feeling confident that I'm finally gonna be able to get something done with my spine at least a game plan, nope didnt happen. Once called back, it just seemed very fast paced and to me that's not off-landish, and makes a person feel like you dont care. The nurse took my info she was pleasant but I didnt get any vitals taken and that was not acceptable. Listen I been going through this scoliosis and spine problems for over 20 years, so I'm not new to visiting facilities and this one missed the mark. At least with this doctor, who I'll mention at the end. Come to think about it I believe I've had this doc do the same thing back in 2012 when I lived in Charlotte. SMH Doc was in a hurry and really didnt do anything or care. Very dissatisfied with his services a waste of my insurance, he referred me to another doctor seeing as he was very old and no longer does surgeries. I would suggest do better and listen for 5 minutes. Goodness gracious. Upon leaving the checkout receptionist, I forget his name was so very nice and we ended up chatting and talking, cause he saw that I was just over it in pain. Terrible place. Liars and incompetent. We arrived at the Urgent Care at 8.09. When we checked in the receptionist could not get the insurance card to go through. She said that it was invalid. She said when she got it to go though we would be seen. Shortly there after the doctor said to cut it off. The receptionist said that she would still take us because we waited a long time. So we called BCBS and they told them they were entering the wrong things. So it got straight. Now she said that they could no longer see us. We said that she had told us that they would see us. She said the doctor said no.Since when do doctors turn away patients in pain. What has happened to our society. They told us to go to the ER. Could not do that because of work and they had no appointments available for over a week. Well it did not end well with police and a little security guard. Not nice people. OrthoCarolina billing system is horrible. I had procedure Feb 2, 2024. I received bill, Feb 18, 2024 I went online and made a payment. I go into PT twice a week and each day I visit, I'm asked about the balance. I respond yes I know there's a balance and I'll make another payment in March. Because I didn't setup a payment plan with them, I am now harassed each visit about the balance even to the point of threatening to cancel current appointments and not book any future PT appointments as I was told my account would get locked all because I do not have a payment plan setup with them. I told Rep I am making payments so I don't feel the need to setup a payment plan with them. Rep advised my payments aren't recognized in their system so therefore they will continue harassing me until I set up a payment plan with them. The Rep also advised although I am making payments, after 90 days from date of service, if there's an outstanding balance they will send it to collections, but if I had a payment plan setup then account would not go to collections. Make that make sense! I cannot wait until I'm done with PT, I'll never use or even refer anyone to OrthoCarolina. They DO NOT care about a patient's well being or health, all they care about is the money! I will write a review on every review board I can find, to warn others, to consider another facility for services. read more

I have had THE WORST experience at the University office. I went to have my shoulder looked at and needed an MRI. The entire process took a couple of visits. Each time the doctor was over an hour late. Then getting a copy of my film seemed damn near impossible. When trying to call to make the request it was impossible to get to the actual doctors office. Instead I could only get to a call center and each time I was told they put in the request to have them sent to the doctors office but that never happened. I finally just went back to the office 2 weeks after my request. They had no record from the call center but I was able to get them to burn the MRI pictures onto a disk for $6.50. Insane that I couldn't get thru to the actual doctors office and that none of my messages were received. And who the hell still uses discs?!? Now I have to figure out how to get it uploaded. A bunch of unnecessary incompetence that shows no regard for patients. I will NEVER go to them again. read more

The doctor was excellent and I am very pleased with the outcome of my treatment. However, the service of the office support staff from reception, scheduling and billing is abysmal. Scheduling treatment is a nightmare process and the staff is unresponsive, unprofessional, and clearly not competent to handle patients needs. Phone calls and emails are routinely not returned and despite numerous complaints nothing is being done to remedy the situation. They will not acknowledge or take responsibility for their negligence and will deflect the blame on the insurance providers, medication vendors or their coworkers. Despite the excellent care of the doctor I would strongly advise others to avoid seeking treatment at this office. read more

Dr. Dockery is a great knee / hip specialist. Four members of my family have used him for knee surgery and have been happy with the results. I recently saw him for a sports related hip injury, and he was very helpful. He spent the time needed with me to accurately diagnose the issue. Overall, Dockery is reliable and can be trusted. The efficiency of the clinic, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. The check-in process is just short of torture. After standing in line at the front desk, you are asked to sign a sheet with your name and then sit down in the waiting area. Some time later, you are called back up to the desk to finalize the check-in, which for me took at least 10 minutes. For people with ortho injuries (hurt knees, hips, etc.) this is not ideal. I was asked to sit down and get back up 3 different times during the check in process. I saw others who also had difficulty getting up and down so many times. It would be a lot more convenient to get checked in when you walk in, before you sit down. If the check-in process takes that long, it needs to be streamlined. Another issue is the long wait. It seems irrelevant to show up at your appointment time. My appointment time was 1:30. I arrived at 1:25. Was shown to a treatment room at 2:00, and saw the doc for the first time at 2:40. I know some clinics try to schedule patients every 5, 10 minutes, but sometimes the docs can't work that fast (and shouldn't!). I get that the clinic is trying to make more money, but good docs spend the time they need to accurately assess the patient (as Dockery did), but this throws the schedule way off. My time is valuable, and it annoys me to wait 70 minutes beyond my appointment time to be seen. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this place. I was in agonizing pain for a few days. I went to the hospital and they referred me to an orthopedic surgeon. The day I got out of the hospital I scheduled an appointment with this office and they got me in that day. I had to wait for a little bit because it was kind of busy, but it was 100% worth the wait. I have never met a doctor with such great bedside manner. I was crying because I was in pain even during the x-ray, but they were all so nice to me. The doctor treated me in the office. I did not get immediate relief but he assured me that if I did not feel better in the next few days I could call in a get prescription. He didn't say I had to come back for a visit which was amazing! I am feeling better today and so thankful for everybody in the office, especially MICHAEL L. DOCKERY!! I highly recommend coming here. I cannot speak highly enough about them. I had to bring my daughter here because she hurt her wrist after a trip and fall. Front desk ladies were very friendly and check in was quick. Once in the room, they took her to X-ray in minutes. Doctor(PA) came in the room 10 minutes later, sure enough, wrist fracture. He explained treatment and was very personable! She was fitted for a splint and we were on our way. Super impressed with the time that we were in and out. We will be happy to follow up with the PA that we saw!! read more

Run don't walk...even if you have to grab your cane, crutch or walker, from OrthoCarolina. I have been going there for several years to address hip dysplasia. Finally I could avoid it no more--I was in too much pain and my world had become too limited from the bad joint. I needed an advocate at Ortho to help move me along to the next step which was agreeing that surgery would be my only option. I am 58 years old and that's relatively young for Total Hip Replacement surgery--but it still needed done. As a sidebar, I am a size 4 and I do yoga, pilates, weight lifting, walking, biking and swimming. My Dr at Ortho at my most recent visit told me a) I needed to wait until I was between 62 and 65 to get replacement surgery. That meant up to seven years of living with very very difficult pain and a depressing reduction in my activity in my life--things that gave me meaning and b) I was too heavy according to my BMI and that I needed to loose weight. Again. I am a size 4. A FOUR. I was truly incredulous. I pushed back, had my Dr actually do the BMI on me and he said: Oh. You're ok. Fool. An absolute fool. I subsequently packed my pain killers and hustled on down to HSS in West Palm Beach, the nation's number one rated Orthopedic hospital. Look 'em up. Number One in the nation. I found one of the best hip doctors in the country, booked an appointment and he said a) you are not too young to get a THR. Do it now and enjoy your life. Why live in pain for the next up to 8 years...??? And b) YOU ARE NOT OVERWEIGHT. He said my Dr at OrthoCarolina was nuts. Fast forward...I have a new hip, am recovering with sass and strength and I have a mission to tell everyone in Charlotte--DO NOT GO TO ORTHOCAROLINA. There is so much better out there. Well, don't know how many people check Yelp for an orthopedic doctor, but this is the place to go! You walk in to a well lit open reception area with plenty of people at the main desk to get you checked in. You have to fill out info on tablets now, and the seats are only a few steps away (considering a lot of us who show up are on crutches!). The staff is wonderful and really are sincere in helping you feel at ease. I find this especially great because: 1. You are usually scared & in pain when you show up here, and 2. Big chickens like me really appreciate someone who takes their time to make jokes, explain things so I can understand, and just generally makes me feel like my injury and emotions matter. We have history here - my husband had knee surgery several years ago, and we were just as pleased then. Professional, knowledgeable... Ortho Carolina is THE place to go. Oh, and because of them it was determined that I did NOT need knee surgery! What the Urgent Care doctor saw on x-ray was an older fracture. But kudos to Urgent Care for being OVERLY cautious & wanting me to see an orthopedic! read more
