I highly recommend Bob Ortiz for his artistic talent, creative imagery, and warm, friendly personality! My mother is an professional event planner in Scottsdale, AZ. After seeing his incredible photographs from a family friend's wedding, she was quick to hire him to photograph several of her own clients' special events. We do have several talented photographers in AZ, however my mom was so impressed with Bob's photography that she has hired him for events in several different cities. She did this because she believes that he's the absolute best!! When I got engaged, one of the first things we did was contact Bob Oritz once my wedding date was set. Luckily Bob was available that weekend and we booked him immediately! I got married over a holiday weekend and we had events with all of our family and friends that lasted for 4 days. Bob and his wonderful assistant were at all of the events and not only captured the group shots that we asked for, but took a ton of candid shots and truly captured the essence of each of the various events--a Meet n Greet, golf tournament, rehearsal dinner, brunch and of course, the wedding itself!! Prior to my wedding I sent Bob a list of what group shots (extended and immediate family, friends, etc.) that I wanted him to take, as well as several fun, artistic photos that I found on Pinterest that I wanted to recreate. He also conducted site checks prior to the various events to scout out the best spots for photos, check for lighting, etc. Bob carefully reviewed my list and all requests and made sure that all of the images were taken. This was a huge help as he was able to take charge the day of my wedding which allowed me to relax and enjoy this most special day in my life. He also added several additional photo ideas of his own which showcased our personalities, the ambiance of the wedding weekend events, as well as several fun, spontaneous shots that added dimensions that I had not previously considered. We had a large wedding party and big family. Bob's sense of humor kept people laughing and things light-hearted during our lengthy wedding photo shoot. One of the other things I really appreciated is that Bob perfectly succeeded in finding the perfect balance between capturing all of the important moments and milestones of the weekend without being in the way. I've attended so many weddings where the photographer is always front and center, often times taking centerstage and disrupting the wedding ceremony, toasts, etc. Somehow Bob managed to be present and capture all of these moments without making my husband and I and others feel as if he was in our way. He has a unique way of doing his job discreetly without being overbearing. Another thing that impressed me tremendously is that Bob sent us the proofs of the various wedding events within days of the events' occurrence. We spent a part of our honeymoon looking through the photos and reliving our wedding weekend! The only complaint I have is that Bob took so many amazing photographs that it is hard to narrow my favorites down to a select few to create one wedding album. Naturally, its a good problem to have but he truly so many incredible photos that we simply can't decide which photos we like the best! The photos from our first look are among my favorite as they truly capture the raw emotion, excitement and sensitivity of the moment when my husband and father first saw me in my wedding dress. To anyone who is looking to hire a gifted, creative photographer for a special event or family photos, I can recommend Bob Ortiz with the utmost confidence and tell you that you will not be disappointed! read more

We had no thought of the pictures while we prepared for the wedding etc. as Bob positioned himself within the most critical moments and captured them all. Our day was AMAZING BUT wow when pictures were returned we were STUNNED BY HOW much more amazing that day was. Robert Capture ALL the special moments of the day. Robert put the book together like a true story book. We could not believe how amazing it was. It was simply incredible. It's now 17 months after my wedding and 9 months since my last review. I JUST received my album. It is very nice and the only reason I am not lowering my rating to 1 star. Bob has called several times to ask me to remove my Yelp review because it's "hurting business" but I don't feel that the service I have received warrants that and I feel Yelp is here for honest reviews so consumers can make educated decisions about who they do business with. After posting my last review here, Bob contacted me and told me that he wanted to make me happy and offered to upgrade my parent album. He upgraded it so it looked like a mini version of the wedding album, which is certainly nicer than an album with just 1 photo per page, but also did not create a lot more work for him. But the review I posted was that a. I did not have my wedding album 8 months after the wedding and b. that communication/service was very poor. Neither of those things was handled any better, which is apparent by the fact that it took ANOTHER 9 months (for a grand total of almost a year and a half post-wedding) to complete my album. This review is not personal - it is merely a documentation of my experience with Ortiz Photography. I would not recommend their services - there are plenty of wedding photographers in So Cal who will do a great job AND get your album to you in a timely manner and without you having to initiate all communication and progress yourself. read more

The only reason why he got two stars is because my album turned out to be beautiful. He really deserves only one. Before the wedding he was so charming and made it seemed like he really was going to take the time to do an amazing job at our wedding. He asked for a list of all the people I wanted pictures of/with, and any other shots I felt were important. I felt confident that he was going to do an amazing job based on his demeanor and the sample albums he showed me. I feel duped. The day of he showed up late. Not good. Delayed us a full hour so our preceremony pictures were very rushed. Our ceremony started a half an hour late because of his tardiness. Not only that, he missed some very important shots that we will never be able to recreate - one with my brother, one with my side of my family (um, hello! the bride's side paid for it! they should have a formal picture!), and one with just my grandmother and me. All of those pictures were ones I had requested in the previously mentioned list. After that day we were promised our proofs within a month. I got married in September... didn't see the proofs until January. No matter how many times I called the guy I was always promised they would be done "next week." I was really upset because I wanted to use a professional wedding shot for a Christmas card, but I couldn't. My album didn't get finished until ONE YEAR AND TWO MONTHS AFTER MY WEDDING! How anticlimactic is that? You pay the guy good money up front, and he doesn't finish his services until over a year after being paid. My album is beautiful, but I still get pangs of bitterness thinking about how taken advantage I felt through the whole process with Bob. read more

Just finished our unforgettable engagement session with Bob Ortiz. I was nervous at first... aside from smiling, I've never been comfortable in front of the camera. Luckily, Bob helped guide us and made us feel at ease... in fact, there were times I almost forgot the camera was on us. It felt very natural. We began our session walking through a quaint street in Laguna. As we were walking, Bob spotted a breathtaking Spanish Style home that inspired some impromptu shots. We knocked on the door and, to our delight, the owner said she would be happy to loan us her porch so long as she could witness Bob create art. Then, we made it towards the beach in this tucked away Laguna paradise. Luckily for us, Bob knows all the great spots. There was a little rock climbing involved and some playful waves wanting to be part of our shoot. I loved these moments and will never forget this day. We invited Bob to dinner and ended the evening at Rubys. Just when I thought our session was over, another impromptu session began. It was here magic transpired. I can only explain these shots as Melrose Place meets the Peach Pitt. He is not only an amazing photographer but also an incredible person. I feel blessed that God has sent him our way and know he will be someone we keep in touch with through the years. Forever thankful, you are the best Bob! read more

He was the photographer for my parents wedding and captured breathtaking photos that I'm eternally grateful for today. The quality of the photos were amazing and I have a lot of them hung up in my house today. He has a warm, funny, kind-hearted personality and will make you laugh so no matter what the occasion, especially if it's your nerve wracking wedding day, he'll put your butterflies to ease. If you're ever looking for a truly talented photographer, than go with Bob. It's hard to believe reviews these days on yelp solely based upon the fact that a lot of people aren't very forthcoming about their side of the story and only come on here to blast someone's reputation. After having our wedding this past Sunday, it's hard to believe that Ortiz Photography deserves anything less than 5 stars. We scheduled the first part of our pictures to take place at 1 pm at our hotel and Bob and Bob's wife were both on time and very professional. That team works like clockwork. My groomsmen and I were ready first so we started taking pics while the girls were finishing up. Bob's shot placement is spot on and and he knows what he is doing when setting up the shots. My groomsmen were having a great time following Bob's instructions and laughing at his jokes. Bob and Eileen (Bob's wife) were very detailed during the entire picture process. Eileen would fix my wife's dress and veil for each shot and I have to say that after seeing the pics, they look amazing. You really do get what you pay for. Even on the shots that we were running extremely low on light turned out amazing. It's Thanksgiving and Bob already uploaded over 1,000 pics to a site for us to view. They were clear, well focused and not blurry at all. I'll be sure to upload some pics to discredit the people who don't seem to be impressed. I mean, some people are just never pleased no matter what, so don't trust the negative reviews all that much. Bob is the subject matter expert and if you follow his lead, the shots will look amazing. Again, I just can't believe some of the bad reviews posted on yelp. I mean, come on, our DJ and florist both dropped their jaws when they asked who our photographer was and we said Bob Ortiz. He is extremely well known in the industry and I am sure there are hundreds of other people out there that can vouch for his work that don't "yelp." Pics soon to follow. Bob goes to my parent's church. My parents knew me and my husband were looking for a photographer that took great candid pictures as well as the standard requested wedding pictures. My Dad told me to go look at Bob's website. Both my and husband really liked the engagement and wedding pictures Bob had on his site. We met with Bob and really thought his personality and humor would be a perfect match for us - we were right! Bob took both our engagement and wedding pictures. We are beyond thrilled with the pictures he took. We have so many amazing pictures to pick from its going to be hard to choose the ones we want in our photo album. My husband and I didn't see each other until the ceremony so I had no idea what type of pictures he took with this groomsmen. I was not only laughing at the amazing and funny pictures; I also got teary eyed looking at all the great shots he took. I had asked him to make sure he took pictures of our guests because I knew we couldn't be everywhere that night. I was beyond excited to see all the pictures he took of our family and friends. I had such a fantastic experience that I used him twice! I was not so lucky in love but, I have beautiful pictures. My ex husband even used Bob and loved him too. I guess we agreed on something. Not only were the photos great, Bob made the experience easy and got my proofs and albums to me very quickly. He even put together a beautiful slide show with music and emailed it to me on my honeymoon. It was so special. We hired Bob to shoot our wedding, and he was the ultimate professional. He handled any challenges we were presented with in the day with grace and helped me keep my cool, and keep me laughing - which is the most important quality a wedding photographer's personality can have. If the bride is stressed, the pictures just won't turn out well. I was immediately at ease in his presence. The portraits, ceremony, reception and getaway were all captured beautifully, and the memories I am able to save are priceless. Not only did he get our pictures back in record time, but he also provided the best customer service experience. We just received our wedding photos and we are so in love with them! We had a small, more simple wedding and the one thing I wanted to make sure I we nailed were the photos, and I'm definitely grateful we had Robert there as our photographer. He even took the time to meet me at a time and location of my convenience a few weeks before the wedding to talk about what kinds of photos we liked and get an idea of our personalities. When it came to the wedding day, Robert showed up right on time at the hotel where the bridesmaids and I were getting ready. He made me feel so comfortable with photos I took with family members before the ceremony when the jitters from the big day were kicking in. He and his wife knew the location of our wedding well so they knew all the great spots to have us stand in. They were very personable and his wife even took over baby duty for one of my bridesmaids so she could eat at the reception, and when she brought the baby back to the table, she was sound asleep. I was highly referred to Bob Ortiz by my fiance's friend, who's daughter got married a few years back. I interviewed Bob and found him quite personable and his resume impressive. He traveled the world shooting weddings and also teaches in between bookings and had a number of experienced years under his belt. He just so happened to be my wedding coordinator's photographer when she got married. When he told me he was going to meet my budget, I thought I hit the jackpot! His style was more traditional, but i thought to myself, he teaches photography...perhaps he can shoot similar to the style that I liked. He made me feel he was capable of doing anything and everything. The first photographer I interviewed was very artistic, meticulous, and paid attention to details. Her albums were state of the art...bar none...top notch. Her studio was well decorated and organized. However, she was more expensive than Bob. I guess...you do get what you pay for. His office was plain and cluttered; his albums were mediocre. Perhaps this way he keeps his costs down. At the time , I tried not to judge a book by its cover. Bob made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Really? How bad could it be? I'll let you decide. Due to poor weather and our schedules conflicting, we were able to finally make an appointment for our engagement session after two months. Even with a GPS, Bob and his wife were late to our appointment but tried to be understanding since they were coming from OC. Nonetheless we were stuck in traffic and barely missed the sun setting at Griffith Park. After our session, we took Bob and his wife to a nice sushi dinner to get to know them better. They are truly a nice couple. We got to review some of the pictures he took. All of the pictures he took indoors looked horrible. He said he would correct the lighting. He said he'd have the pictures available online for me no later than a week. I needed post these pics on my wedding website so I was pressed for time. More like closer to two weeks, he finally uploaded approximately 300 pics from his camera onto smugmug. Out of the 300 photos, we found 5 of them decent. None of them were post produced. When you have 10 out of 10 people tell me how horrible my pics looked, then I realized that it wasn't just me being picky. It really was that bad. There were people and police cars in the background. Honestly, my sister, who takes pictures for fun, could take better pictures. We had already put our retainer for $1000. What to do? We decided to take our loss instead of being more disappointed on our BIG DAY. read more

Just like Nina S.'s review dtd 1/2/09...I echo the same here, he was charming and nice and we gave him a list of who we wanted to have pictures taken of, etc. I don't think he really looked at the list and the pictures that he gave us to review were not that great - my relatives and friends actually took better pics. We got a good deal so I wonder if b/c we paid less, the pictures did not come out as great as those that he showed us in his studio - the super large expensive weddings...in any case, I wouldn't really recommend him which is disappointing b/c we can't do the wedding over but at least we had great family and friends that captured the moments we cherish. read more

Bob serves the church I go to, saddleback. He is very entertaining while taking photos and keeps it fun. He gives a lot of options for photos and makes a lot of suggests. I'll start off by saying that my wedding album is beautiful, but that's about the only good thing I have to say about my experience with this photographer (and the only reason why he even got one star). As a young bride I wasn't aware that research really pays off, especially for your wedding photographer. I also didn't know what to expect as far as customer service is concerned. Now that three years has passed since my wedding I realize how much I missed out by not going with another photographer! Not only did I not get to choose where my engagement pictures were taken ( I was told by his secretary where to go and what time to be there) but he showed up very late to our appointment and only spent about 40 minutes with us, the whole time he seemed rushed. He didn't at the time have a website up for reviewing your pictures so selecting my engagement pictures was a chore. I had to email them the numbers I liked from a disk they sent me. They printed out the wrong pictures TWICE. Even after I faxed him the numbers along with a PRINT OUT of the pictures and he still got them wrong. I almost wasn't able to have a guest book because of this! After leaving a tearful voicemail on his business line, he had to come to my house to pick up the list with the pictures that I had to print out on copy paper in order to get them right. He didn't even ring the doorbell or apologize, he simply requested that I leave the list under my door mat! As far as the wedding pictures are concerned, they are ok. Definitely not artsy or creative photography, very "High School Prom" type posing, not my style. I gave him a list of all the groups of people I wanted pictures of and I know he never even looked at it. Several of the groups I mentioned did not get photographed (a picture of myself with the groomsmen and my husband with my bridesmaids for example). My album was beautiful but I had to return it a year later because a large bump appeared down the middle, he blamed me for storing it in a moist area ( I didn't know a coffee table was considered moist). Now that I'm a little older and helping my friends and family with their wedding plans I realize that a good photographer would never treat his clients the way my husband and I were treated. I see all my friends wedding albums and engagement pictures (they were able to choose the locations!) it makes me sad to know that I paid almost twice as much as they did and I don't have half the memories to show for it. Sorry this is so long but I want every bride out there to know that if you're looking for the perfect photographer KEEP MOVING!!
