As a long time customer of Orvis, it's disappointing to see how poor the quality has become. I recently purchased two pairs of ultralight swim trunks. When they arrived I discovered they no longer have mesh liners. No one make s swim trunks without a liner other than Orvis. Worse, when purchasing poor quality of defective clothing, Orvis makes the customer pay the return postage. read more

What a wonderful shopping experience here with my husband today! Neither of us had ever been to an Orvis before. I have been on the hunt for a nice coat my husband will actually wear for years and spotted some online I wanted him to try on. The service was exceptional - Lyle and George treated us like long time customers, family even, and were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and generous. It is clear how high the quality of their products is and we found many things we loved. You can even bring your dogs with you when you shop there!! I could not be happier with the service I have received at this location nor could I be happier with Orvis products. I have been shopping at this location and the Arlington location for years. The staff fall over themselves to help you and they don't pressure you to buy-ever. The store personnel know the products backwards and forwards. And if what you want isn't in stock, they will order it checking other stores and ship it to your house free of charge. Orvis products are priced fairly high (some I cannot afford) but you get what you pay for: extremely comfortable, well designed, long lasting products and those products are delivered with superior second to nothing service. In those areas: comfort, design and longevity their products are at least twice as good as anywhere else and service also is twice as good. Try finding all that at any store today. And if you ever have an issue with any product, Orvis will replace it or issue you store credit or refund your money. Their products are unconditionally guaranteed. It's clear that Orvis products are exhaustively tested before they are manufactured or sold. And then they improve upon them over time. Finally-Orvis is family owned and in business since 1856 and the company donates 5 percent of their profit to nature preservation. read more

Fantastic store with very very friendly staff. Very service oriented. Awesome clothing made to the highest of quality- so, yes, pricey but built to last! Buy something here and if it ever fails they will replace no question. Awesome dog products as well. If you fish that is a specialty. Dogs are welcome in the store and they offer treats! Even though Yelp classifies this as a clothing store, I usually buy my men's casual (non-fishing) clothing elsewhere. But I love visiting the Orvis store in Tyson's to chat with the guys about places to fish, new techniques, and equipment. I've found that it's never a high-pressure sell; they work with everyone to ascertain where they are on the fly-fishing learning curve and offer appropriate solutions that align with your budget. I also really appreciate that Orvis has durable and quality rods priced for all pocketbooks. They've got good advice about local fishing groups. In the Before Times, I joined the team on several outings, including a sponsored trip to the West Branch of the Delaware in NY that was a blast (and affordable). They are fun to be around, and always happy to assist with tips and tricks. I'm looking forward to the other end of this pandemic so that we can get back out on the water in larger groups. read more

A great place for both men's and women's outdoor clothing and accessories. Although I've bought very little clothing from this location, what draws me here is the fly fishing department. I own three Orvis fly rods, as well as a variety of their fly fishing gear. I love to come in and ooh and ahh over the fly rods, fly reels, and other fly fishing gear. I almost always walk out having purchased a quantity of dry flies, fly flotant, fly desiccant, leaders, and some new gadget for knot tying. Orvis also offers fly fishing lessons and guided fly fishing excursions - ask about it when you stop in! read more

The Orvis brand is awesome, and this is a good store. Orvis is not cheap, but it is high quality. I've purchased several pieces of clothing for my husband here and they've all held up well over time - both the more rugged outdoor styles and the more polished 'indoor' styles. They also offer a lot of classes and salespeople seem to be well informed. This location is a little weird. The parking lot is hell to get in and out of, and the rest of the shops aren't really in the same price point/"lifestyle" type. The Clarendon location is bigger and in a nicer area, but this location gets the job done. read more

I recently visited this store and it was the most uncomfortable experience I have had at an Orvis store ever. I travel a lot because of my job, and whenever I can, I try to visit any nearby Orvis stores because I really like their products. At this particular store, I was being constantly followed around the store by a fat older white male with a short beard who works there. I did not get his name but I wish I did so that I could post it here. I really felt like I was being racially profiled as he kept following me around like he thought I was there to steal something. He also kept asking me repeatedly 'how I was doing' in a defensive/aggressive manner as I was looking at merchandise. Furthermore, I was wearing a long-sleeve dress shirt with slacks, leather shoes, and I was clean shaven; the types of things that should have informed him that I was more than able to pay for anything I wanted at that store. Although he never actually said or did anything that was OVERTLY racist, his behavior towards me really communicated to me that I was not welcomed in that store and that he wanted me out as soon as possible. I left without buying anything since I was finding myself getting angry and feeling more and more uncomfortable. I am never coming back to this store but I hope that store worker someday realizes that we live in the year 2019 now, and that there is simply no place for that type of sentiment or behavior anywhere in the world! And if he can not realize that, then he simply needs to quit and work somewhere else that services his kind. The good news is that this is an isolated incident given all the Orvis stores I have been to around the country. read more

You get what you pay for, and Orvis is pricey, but the clothing is superior, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors in the elements. Clothing fit is generous, which means they fit with space for movement, not the tight "continental" look. I love there polo shirts, and they provide a sunglass tab to hook you sunglasses when you are not wearing them, very useful. Love the look and feel of the material, both for Men and my wife loves the Women's clothes, material and cut. Store is well organized, staff helpful, and if they do not have your size you can order it in the store and ship free to your house. Try them, little pricey but much better quality then most. read more

I had to travel 2,000 plus miles to find the flies I should have found at my local Orvis store. This store seemed to be embracing the need for fashion/dog end of the business while still embracing the sporting side of the Orvis tradition. They have a decent fly fishing section. I bought them out of the flies I couldn't get locally, we'll see how long it takes them to resupply their flies. I doubt it will the the 12 plus months the San Francisco store is working on....... read more

Always had great experiences with Orvis shops, but, the Tysons Orvis has always been my favorite. The staff are beyond excellent and are always willing to spend the time with their customers. I went in the other day to get some flies and leaders and it was my first time in this Orvis location. I have to say Jimmy was very helpful and a fair representation of the new fly fishing generation. Saying that I mean, I didn't get a nosebleed talking to him. They had flies that were relevant to the location including the upcoming, impending Cicada hatch and all the shad flies were understandably sold out. The location is difficult as to the other businesses and lunch time crowd but when construction is finally done on the road I imagine it will be friendlier. My cousins and I went to this store at 11:30 today. I am hard pressed to remember a time when I have received worse service in a store. The three of us were never acknowledged even though one of us was even wearing an Orvis shirt-so we had purchased Orvis products before! Then, when one of us wanted to make a purchase and there were three men behind the register chatting with each other we weren't even asked if we had found what we wanted and weren't thanked afterwards for coming in. These three men had been behind the register counter chatting with each other the entire time we were in the store. I have to say as someone who is relatively new to fly fishing I was a little nervous going there. I had read negative reviews at various places and didn't know what to expect from this store. I took their free beginning 101 fly fishing class and it was great. Everyone at the store was very friendly and helpful to a novice like me. I was especially impressed with one of the managers George. He was very patient and and personable. The store is a little pricey but will be one that I frequent to purchase and pick the brains of those who know more about fly fishing than I do. read more
