Had not visited REI in so many years as its located a distance from Ashburn but it is a must visit store for any travel. Heading to Europe and different climates my wife and I visited and bought several items and joined REI. They are very helpful and returning/exchanging is made so easy. High recommendation.

Am not pleased they got rid of the lifetime warranty. They were a rare business to do that. To be fair probably quite a few people took advantage of that. I like REI, but I don't love it. The reasons are simple, and that's my competence with anything outdoors, and simply put they are often too expensive. To newish or amateur outdoor folks, you won't find a more knowledgeable staff anywhere! Their employees are A plus in every regard, and their customer service is exemplary. This is certainly a nice location, and they do have some neat toys. Their dehydrated MRE meals are quite decent. What do I usually buy from them? Those and polarized sunglasses. Yes polarized sunglasses cost more, but they do help with glare when driving or skiing. Here they have a good selection, and for less than the Oakleys that finally met their demise. Every time I've found a good pair, as I can do destruction on outdoor gear like none other. Their tents can be a pain to set up, but they are made of impeccable quality. As for bikes and most camping equipment, you can get the same for less elsewhere.

I have been an REI member since 1986 and am very disappointed at how the "experts" that REI hires as their employees do not know what "Customer Service" is. I went out of my way to attend the Fairfax REI's "Garage Sale" because I was on the market for some camping gear (tent, footprint, sleeping bag & sleeping mat). I had previously tried to buy these at the Richmond REI but after walking around for more than a half hour without finding any help, I left. Well, the Fairfax REI isn't any better. Below are pictures of their employees that I took as I was trying to gain their attention. The first one you can see Employee #1 watching a video on his smart phone while ignoring all the customers walking around him. The second pic shows 2 other employees having a map discussion in the middle of the store. The 3rd pic shows Employee # 1, walking past Employee # 2 & 3, away from me when he saw me walking towards him with an inquiry. I bought my camping gear from Amazon instead - at a lot less than what I would have paid at REI. I was more than willing to pay a higher price because they supposedly hire "Outdoor People" whose expertise you can tap into before you make the purchase. What good is all that (probably overpaid) experience if they don't make themselves available to customers? FWIW, I did contact REI about this incident and never heard a damn thing from them.

We drove over an hour on Black Friday due to the website and Apple Maps saying the store is open. Very disappointing.

Outdoor equipment is expensive and we outdoorsmen beat the crap out of our gear and expect it to hold up.

The store carries for women: Blue Label - Polo for women Black Label - More modern sylings that are vanity-sized (my size 6 friend fit a 2) Collection - Runway pieces and fancy accessories Men's collections are: Polo - Legendary collection that redefined American menswear Black Label - Modern menswear with European influence, runs rather fitted unlike the women's collection Purple Label - Finely-tailored menswear with generous British cuts, everything is made in Italy The storefront changes every season, currently whitewash and hardwood to advertise the winter sale and resort collection. The inside is decorated to resemble rooms in a fine home with closets for fitting rooms and wooden tables instead of selling fixtures as well as comfortable chairs to make the store seem more personal. The store mainly focuses on the Black Label and Purple Label sportswear lines for men and the Blue Label and Black Label collections for women. The pieces in this store reflect the unadventurous, reserved nature of D.C. fashion especially for men, except for a really funky Black Label shirt jacket with technical fabric and leather trim. This location does not carry my favourite collection RRL, Ralph Lauren's vintage denim and western brand. The store is a bit on the small side but no larger than the other boutiques in this mall Five stars for the exceptional service. One star off for limited product selection, and one more star off for no RRL.

As I went in the store, there was an employee on an iPad or phone and she looked at me over her eye glasses and then just kept on doing what ever it was she was doing. I found the bag I was looking for and then turned and saw more bag so I started looking at them and actually found a really cute one. I was just about to ask someone to help me so I could purchase it when another employee walked up to me but just stood there and stared at me. So I put the purse down and walked out. Very weird! I'll never go there again. I thought about buying the bag online because it was really cute, but I don't want any reminders of my experience at this store.

Sierra Trading Post was founded in Reno Nevada in 1986, explaining their focus on the outdoors, and they were bought out by TJX in 2012. They have a variety of clothes, shoes accessories, & outdoor gear as well as your typical TJX items like food, cooking, home decor, & pets items. On this trip I picked up a pair of nice gloves, chocolate and gum lol. I was also looking for a supplement my son wanted that he saw there (this is one of his all-time fave stores). The prices are always great, they have name-brand items and the employees are always so friendly and helpful. I literally have never had the staff be anything but stellar!
