Mexican chicken fried steak with green chile sauce
    Charity J.

When we went in we were greeted and seated my a friendly and lovely lady, Beatrice. We promptly ordered margaritas and water. The margaritas were very flavorful and generous. I ordered the Chile Rellenos and my husband ordered the Mexican Chicken Fried Steak smothered in green chile. Both were amazing! Beatrice told us some history about how the ceiling was handmade as were the light fixtures. It was a fantastic experience all around. We are locals so we will definitely be going back.

"Green chili" Actually, they accidentally brought out red

This place is best described as overflow for The Rubi Slipper next door. It is not a great place to service that traffic overflow. The best part about this place is that it provided ample seating at 6pm on a Saturday night. The food was a solid 3/5 too. Those were the upsides. I hate judging a place by what items they set on the table in front of young children, but a bowl of salsa certainly isn't a great idea (at least it wasn't a fresh fajita plate). The service was definitely a miss all over the board. Water cups were left unfilled throughout the meal, my dish came out with red chili instead of my requested green chili, and the meal took a lot longer than we would have liked. Plus, the chips came in a small bowl and, while the first round was complimentary, refills at the same measly size were an up-charge. When we are back in town, we will certainly try to avoid this place, and try some of the other options around town - hopefully Rubi Slipper!

Not bad. Traditional Tex-Mex. The tamales were great. The staff were very friendly. Sad to see so many empty tables on a Friday night.

RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING Minimal parking out front. LOCATION/AMBIANCE The restaurant's front looks like a cabin with a steep roof and a balcony above the entrance. Inside, there's a relatively small dining room with a couple of rickety booths where we sat - the waitress warned us. Restrooms were available. THE GRUB + Coffee ($2.50) + Orange juice + Lemon blueberry cake ($4) + Breakfast bowl ($12) + Burrito ($14) - this sucker was huge. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed it. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB No kids menu, but my kiddos had plenty of options. SERVICE Very amiable service from both our waitress and the owner. MY FAVORITE PART... My breakfast bowl with green Chile! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The booth seat kept sliding around. My kids were excited to go fishing. Lol. TIPS + Call for their hours before heading there. The owner was super nice on the phone. + They will let you taste the green Chile if you are hesitant about spicier foods.

Came in here on my first day and wanted something fresh... out of the whole delicious menu, I ordered a Greek salad with chicken, not expecting much. When it came out, I was so surprised to see so many huge chunks of cucumbers, bell peppers, artichoke hearts! The lettuce was crunchy and fresh! And the CHICKEN! Thinly sliced and breaded, it was perfectly cooked, had a nice crunch, and hot like it just came out of the pan! It was a delicious and hearty salad that waaaaaaay exceeded my expectations! My coworker got the MBP sandwich -- it was HUGE and he had a great review for it too. Made for great leftovers. My second time here, I ordered the Greek salad again with chicken! I have no doubts the rest of the menu is amazing, but that salad and chicken was too good. The garlic bread and spicy watermelon marg I tried were so tasty too. The vibe is chill, relaxed, and the service is great too. I only wish they had the antipasti salad for me to try!! Seems great, but sounds like not enough people order it... that's a shame, because I'm sure it's freaking delicious. This might be my favorite place in Alamosa! I would highly recommend to all other tourists.

We always order inside and never the drive through. The Cuban is (*WAS - keep reading) my all-time favorite and hubby switches up his order. I can certainly handle missing items on a sandwich straight off the menu - as in nothing added, nothing taken away. I can manage a longer-than-necessary wait time even when there's no other customers. What I *detest is an agreeable, pleasant person that couldn't muster enough thoughtfulness to follow through. How difficult is it to cut a sandwich, while standing in front of her? Our last visit went like this. Hubby went inside as usual to order, two sandwiches, nothing else. He knows I like my sandwich cut into thirds, especially when we eat while driving. Placing the order - a Big John and a Jimmy Cubano - he asked politely to have the Cubano cut into thirds. The gal graciously agreed. My husband noticed there were only two people working, no name tags, and the gentleman was busy doing other tasks. Sandwiches were made, paid for, my husband left. Simple, right? When he got to the truck, I opened mine, and seeing it wasn't cut, I asked. Hubby said she was behind some sort of cover while making the sandwiches. Of course I called. Little did I know at that moment that I was speaking to the order taker / sandwich maker, Nataly. The offender answered the phone, without offering her name. I thought to myself, why don't they share their name? Unprofessional. I told her we were just there to get lunch and may I ask some questions. Sure! Do you have sharp knives - she says yes. Are you allowed to use them, she says Um, yes. I was thinking that maybe the bread is made elsewhere and arrives pre-cut. She asks why? I patiently explained that my husband asked for my sandwich to be cut. Get this: Nataly said verbatim, "It has to be on the receipt for us to know to cut it." Really? I'm not even kidding. When someone is placing the order face to face, eye contact, and you agree? On the receipt? So, you charge for this? I hung up, infuriated. To the owner, IF you read this. Doesn't matter if young Nataly is terminated for immaturity, lack of training, lack of understanding, lack of common sense, etc. We certainly won't ever be back to see if you've made any improvements. Look at the pic. The receipt showed her name, this particular location by address, date and time. This was the absolute last time we darken your doorway. Order type

However, the labeling is atrocious and it's often hard to tell what each item is (like, the churros were labeled as tacos). I think they are just always shifting things around, so they must have trouble keeping up with things. I wish they had a bit more variety of vegetables for the buffet that aren't part of a final dish (like in an enchilada). It's mostly just meats there. A few of the things seem a bit suspect, too. The smaller make-your-own tacos have sad looking ground beef and "queso." But I guess that's to be expected at the "American style" taco part of the buffet. I see that some reviews have mentioned there being grilled veggies, but that was not around on the day we were there. I'm not sure if that's a part of the menu you can order from, or if there's just that much variety in what they offer day-to-day. What's not to be missed, though, and it very good, are the fresh tortillas and made-to-order street tacos. Very yummy. I could just eat the tortillas all day. Best of all, everyone there is very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. If the labeling were a bit better and some more vegetables (beyond salad), I think it would be 5 stars. As is, I'd give it 4.5.
