The service was exceptional, the food was delicious, place was clean with nice decor. -you are greeted by a very helpful receptionist who will introduce you to either a buffet meal or ala carte order. -there is a blackboard in front showing the prices for the buffet. -the dining area is big, tables are clean. -they have a good selection of salads, fruits and, entrees. -even if you get a buffet meal, you can request 2 tacos prepared for you -if you are vegetarian, they have entrees like mushrooms, roasted eggplants -they have chicharrones, enchiladas, pork ribs, sopapillas, pork chili -the chef goes around the dining area several times , checking if everything was alright, offering to prepare anything for the customers. -check out was a breeze, they give you a bill with a QR code so you can pay online or if you have trouble with the internet reception, pay by tap, or by cash at the reception area.

OVERALL Good Mexican food plus they have a buffet in Alamosa, CO! RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING You won't have a problem finding a spot. Just note that the main entrance is not alongside Main Street. It's further into the parking lot area. LOCATION/AMBIANCE They had it tastefully and minimally decorated with Dia De Los Muertos vibes in addition to their family photos. Yes, this is a family-owned and operated restaurant in Southern Colorado! They have booths for smaller groups and tables with chairs for larger groups. THE GRUB My significant other thoroughly enjoyed the "SLV" (San Luis Valley" plate ($12) with cheese enchiladas and green sauce. His plate came with beans and rice. I opted for the "UFO" plate which entailed stacked enchiladas with my choice of shredded beef and green sauce topped with "sunny side up" eggs ($13). This dish had a more impactful kick with the spice from the green sauce unlike another Mexican restaurant I've tried in this small town. The only thing I didn't like were the eggs. They certainly were not sunny side up, but over-medium instead... no runniness to ooze over my enchiladas! We also had a few margaritas as we were sold on the "2 for $12" for regular or flavored ones. The best was the complimentary chips with salsa AND queso! Love that! Next time I would love to try their buffet as the mister and I peeped in on it.... LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB I did not ask about a kid's menu and didn't see any mention of one on the regular menu. SERVICE We interacted with four employees. All very friendly and accomodating. Their women's restrooms need some attention with the lack of at least one broken latch on the door. They were mostly clean, however. MY FAVORITE PART... It was a hardy meal with a little to take home. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... My eggs as mentioned above. Lol. TIP Come hungry!

My husband and I were looking for a nice, clean and authentic Mexican food. We found it here. The service was excellent and the Cadillac Margarita hit the spot. If you're driving through here, I would suggest stopping and grabbing a cold drink and some great food.

    Carnitas michoacanas

Meh. Completely average tex mex food. I should've known when I walked in and they were advertising their buffet that it was going to be lame. I asked the waiter if he'd recommend the pork loin mole or carnitas michoacanas. If I wanted something "saucy," try the mole. It's true -- mole is a sauce. But I expected a bit more information about a dish they were highlighting as a new special. I got the carnitas and wished I hadn't. The meat was so dry it needed sauce to be eaten, and yet the plate came with not much guac, sour cream, or pico. The refried beans were flavorless and almost certainly canned.

Calvillo's is just ok, but if you're staying near the sand dunes National park, food options are limited. We came on a Sunday evening and were seated right away. There are both a la carte menu options and a buffet option, but we couldn't tell what was being served in the buffet. I ordered the steak fajitas, and the food was ok/edible but not great. The meat was dry/over cooked and not even served on a hot plate as expected. They have a pretty extensive drink menu, but the drinks are a little watered down. The restaurant was pretty busy, so maybe I just ordered the wrong things.

This place is truly homemade and authentic. They have a buffet or you can order off the menu, which is what we opted for. I ordered the American ground beef tacos, and requested flour tortillas instead of corn. So glad I did because they came out hot, soft, and delicious. The meat was properly seasoned. My husband had the relleno pie, which was also great! There were these amazing lot tasty fried cheese chunks inside his dish. Overall a great place.

We were seated immediately on. Thursday night. Plenty of parking in the attached lot. They start you with complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was not spicy. I tried a bunch of items off the a la carte menu. Pork tamale with green Chile sauce is so made in house. This was my favorite. Shredded beef enchilada with red Chile sauce was good. The relleno pie was good if you like the taste of a jalapeño. My friend had the carne asada-reason for a one star deduction. The steak with not high quality and was super thin. The Chile stuffed with cheese was tasty. It was served with fresh zucchini and guacamole. The refried beans are good. I ended my meal with a freshly fried sopapilla and I drizzled honey on it! Only $1 and so good.

FOOD There was complimentary chips and salsa. It was okay. I started craving a stuffed sopapilla ($17.99) as soon as I saw it on the menu. The pork was so tender and the green sauce I requested was full of flavor. Highly recommend this meal. My daughter asked for the quesadillas ($12.49) from the appetizers. It was strange that in the middle of the triangular goodies with requested ground beef was a huge pool of red sauce. She enjoyed the side of guacomole ($1.99). My SO had the steak Mexicana ($17.99) which he seemed to enjoy. My other daughter had the shrimp Mexicana ($17.99). She gobbled the shrimp. I tried her beans and rice which I didn't have with my own meal. They were pretty good. SERVICE I really enjoyed meeting the owner. He came to our table and helped clean up some water my daughter accidentally spilled. The only thing I wish that had happened that evening was that all of our meals would have been served all at once. They were spread out minutes apart. AMBIANCE The parking lot was in construction as of 5/26/2023. Inside, the place may be small, yet, there were large and small tables and booths. It's a seat yourself type of place. There were vibrant colors everywhere. A white board with their daily specials was on the wall near the kitchen. I wish I had seen it earlier. Finally, no background music, yet, there was a flat screen with some kid-friendly movies playing. MY RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 3

Our server was too frazzled to serve everyone in the restaurant efficiently. There were two 5-top tables, and three booths with 2 to 3 people each. It took about 10 min after we were seated before the server came to take our order. I asked for water with lemon, but she forgot the lemon. She brought lemons 10 min later when she brought the food to the 5-top next to us. Our food took another 15 min after we ordered. After food was served to everyone in the restaurant, our server came by to check on us...we were 3/4 done with our meal. FOOD. We were provided chips and salsa (enough for 1-1/2 people only) after we were seated. Since food was slow coming, we asked for more and was told it would cost us $1.99 for another round. Huh?! We agreed to the charge because we were starving! I loved the chips though because it was not store-bought. For our meal, I had a combination meal of chicken enchilada, cheese enchilada and crispy relleno with green chile. Taste wise, the food lacked the UMPH to make the food taste really good although the crispy relleno was REALLY CRISPY! My husband had a beef burrito meal. Like mine, he said it was nothing to write home about. Not sure why this restaurant was given the title of best Mexican restaurant in the SLV. No way! We are not returning.
