This place is AMAZING. We stayed here for two nights for a local wedding. We are about 2.5 hours away and this is quite rural compared to our town. We had zero cell service here but the WiFi was strong and useable. The mother and son duo here are great. We only met the mother but was so nice and accommodating and showed us around. The daily homemade breakfast in the morning was delicious. There's a big kitchen table and you just help yourself and eat. There's a keurig available to brew hot coffee at any time. I liked how our room had its own mini fridge stocked with water. Plenty of parking outside in gravel or in the field next door if needed. This place has a lot of history and is rustic and beautiful. Our room was nice but the bathroom was a little outdated. The sink was in the room and the shower was small and old but did the job! I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area and need a place to stay. read more

OMG, this venue is outstanding. My brother rented the entire venue for his son's wedding and every aspect of our stay was over the top. The setting and scenery were beautiful. This is a charming old mill bed and breakfast that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was so-so but the ambiance is cute and service was friendly. The food was out in probably less than 10 minutes, so that's a huge plus. But I also think we were the first order into the kitchen for the day as we arrived right when they opened and were one of the first tables sat. We chose a range of items so got to taste a bit of everything, a Belgian waffle with strawberries, biscuits and gravy and an omelette. Both the biscuits and gravy and the omelette came with a small serving of home fries. The clear winner from all three was the biscuits and gravy which was a huge and heaping portion of white sausage gravy over two fluffy biscuits. The white sausage gravy was yummy and my mom's boyfriend loved it. He's very picky about his biscuits and gravy and he raved about it for the rest of the day. The waffle was fairly plain and not especially sumptuous. My mom was disappointed that the plate didn't include the promised whipped cream topping and was even more upset when someone else's came out of the kitchen later with a big serving of whipped cream. Apparently there isn't consistency in the kitchen with it. I had some fresh, piping hot adaptogenic coffee here which was good. Supposed to help with mental clarity and acuity. It was good and you couldn't tell the difference between that and regular coffee as far as flavor once I added some cream and sugar to my liking. The inside is super charming with the ancient wooden floor planks creaking and the wood beams inside. As we left, an older couple was setting up for some live music so we missed that. We walked around a bit and admired the old water wheel and the veggie garden. It's a cute spot and one we will likely come to again during my next trip to visit my parents. Note: Osceola Mill is under new management. Most of the 5-star reviews here were written when it was run by the prior owner. The website and its pictures suggest fresh rooms in a bucolic setting.  The reality is a low-cost rehab exemplified by noisy window-mounted A/C units,  linoleum tile bathroom floors, and mosquito netting around the bed.  The website's picture of the Paddock Room suggests it looks out on greenery.  In reality, the large window, with a broken plexiglass cover, is directly above the surprisingly busy country road. A window-mounted A/C unit on the other wall comes with a pair of pliers to use in place of the two broken control knobs. The thin walls and old windows do nothing to deaden the road noise. Passing vehicles sound like they are six feet from your head, as they are. The "Queen Sleeper Sofa" is at best a twin, suitable only for people happy to sleep in intimate contact.  As a parent, I wouldn't dream of using it for more than one child, unless I wanted too be kept awake all night by screams of "Stop touching me!" The "Stone Fireplace" is a TV credenza with a small electric heating insert featuring animated flames. There is Wi-Fi, but the connection is very weak, and even when connected the service is so slow that I was not able to receive MMS messages sent from our pet-sitter at home and the room's "smart TV" advised that it could not connect to the internet. Why advertise "Queen sleeper sofa," "Stone Fireplace," "Smart Tv" and Wi-Fi when there are none of these? Breakfasts were disappointing.  Cold, dry eggs the first morning. The second morning featured lovely but tasteless waffles accompanied by fresh berries and a plastic tub of imitation maple-flavored syrup. To top it off, an email sent to "info@osceolamill.com", the email address on the webpage and reservation confirmation, produced the reply, "Address not found.  Your message wasn't delivered to info@osceolamill.com because the address couldn't be found, or is unable to receive mail." read more

Just perfect for a quiet getaway. Dinner was delicious. Started with the carrot ginger bisque, followed by the hot cheesy caprese dip and toast. Both were scrumptious. Then we shared the New York strip with sugar snaps and smashed fingerling potatoes. The steak was cooked to our request and seasoned well. The snaps were lightly sautéed and delicious. The room was comfortable and spacious. Now realize that this an old mill in the middle of a valley. It is an escape from constant contact with no cell service and very limited internet. But is nice to get away from modern busy times for a bit. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. I had the avocado toast. read more

This is an amazing place. My wife and I spent the day hiking at Crabtree Falls. We decided to look for a nearby B&B. The reviews were good so we decided to just stop by and see if they had any availability (On Valentine's Day!). We pulled up and Kevin met us at our car. I asked if he had any rooms. He had one left and accommodated us. Such a charming B&B. Kevin was super nice. He is a great guy who loves hosting people. The room was so quaint and super clean. But, what I wasn't prepared for...Kevin is an excellent chef! We had a romantic dinner and a great bottle of wine. Please check this place out and let Kevin cook you one of the best steaks you'll ever eat (and that's saying something as my wife is Brazilian). The grounds are well manicured. My boyfriend and I went to eat dinner at the Osceola Mill which on that weekend featured the Valentine's Day menu. I can honestly say, this was one of the best dinners of my life and completely worth it. The dinner consisted of crab bisque soup which was spectacular (crab seemed to be cooked just right); crab stuffed mushrooms for appetizer; unbelievable salad containing berries, strawberries, orange and candied pecans on top of a bed of lettuce and delicious vinegarette; mango sorbet; seafood platter containing lobster, crab stuffed shrimp, large scallops, and oysters rockafellar; potatoes and snow peas; and lastly chocolate amaretto cake (they added ice cream on the house which was nice). We also ordered a very good bottle of pinot noir for only $18. I'm from the D.C. area and this type of dinner for just one person could easily cost $100 per person. However, what was even more impressive was the quality of the food--it was great! When we were eating, I was wondering who the great chef was thinking that the chef HAD to be someone pretty reputable/famous. When we asked the inn keeper who the chef was and he said that the chef was his wife and she did not go to culinary school! We were both amazed. I hate to admit it but we seem to both be relatively picky eaters since it has taken us forever to find a couple of good restaurants in D.C. despite living in this area for about 6 years. The food at the Oseola Mill was spectacular and the presentation was beautiful. I had to take pictures of pretty much every dish. By the time the salad got around, I was already full but forced myself to eat almost everything because it was so good. Can't wait to go back! read more

I would award this place more stars if they were available. On a motorbike ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway, we stopped at a variety of hotels, motels and guesthouses. We wanted something a little different and headed for the Osceola Mill. It's a very old mill. The floors are uneven, the stairs creak and it looks like something from a movie set. But, the bedrooms are HUGE, the beds comfortable, the bathroom lovely and the grounds and building itself are charming and quaint beyond belief. We had ridden for a long day and it was getting chilly. We were tired and just wanted a hot shower, a decent meal and a warm bed. Well, the shower was t'riffic, the bed, as aforementioned, was more than adequate and the meal was......... Okay. We asked the boss where we could eat. He pointed out a few local spots and also said he had a good kitchen. We didn't want to suit up again so we decided to eat in. He told us we could eat at 7.30pm. "Oh, booked up, are you"? I inquired. "Nope", he responded. I cook for one table at a time". That's right this guy is an amazing chef and he cooks for one room of guests, then he cooks for the next. I had the best steak I have eaten in a long time. It was prepared with all the trimmings in true Michelin 5 star style. To properly describe the entire experience would run me out of superlatives. It's enough to say that if you pass within 50 miles of Osceola Mill you must make the detour and go there for a night and a meal. Your life will be all the better for it. read more

We stayed for one night over Easter weekend; my boyfriend and I (DC) met my mom and sister (NC, up visiting UVA) and stayed in the Paddock and Wheat Bin rooms. You can hear the water outside the Wheat Bin room, we left the window cracked overnight and it was very nice. There was just one other couple staying overnight, although there were a few other dining parties. We ended up seeing the couple the next day at Crabtree Falls (a moderate hike with waterfalls about 20 minutes away). We ate dinner and breakfast at the inn. The owners were extremely generous with food portions - after huge steaks the night before, Kevin embraced the challenge of filling up my boyfriend in the morning (omelette, thick French Toast, bacon, fruit, a few extra eggs just for kicks, second round of French Toast..). The owners understood that we were on a tight schedule and gave recommendations for the best hikes, breweries, etc. to get the most out of our short visit. It is a beautiful drive from Charlottesville to the inn going down the Blue Ridge Parkway, or down 151. Worth the extra drive for the food, price, and friendly hosts. We will stay again when we are in the area. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here in May 2015. We were on a road trip from Florida to New Brunswick, Canada. Kevin the owner was very kind and accommodating. He made us a wonderful breakfast the next morning! Best bacon and eggs ever!!! He also served it with strawberries and cream and a yummy smoothy. I would highly recommend this place. This B&B is a great place to stay, we stayed here one night for our anniversary. The dinner was delicious! ... cooked and served by the owner himself (Kevin). We loved staying in the Mill Store, and the breakfast the next day was just as good as the dinner the night before. The salads, steaks and crabcakes, and wines were all fantastic and reasonably priced. We will definitely come back again! This is a charming, casual, slightly rustic place, but full of personality. And we feel the owners will chat with you or leave you alone, based on your desires. It was a very nice evening. read more

This is a little bit of a late review but I completely forgot. My wife and I came here for our anniversary and it was absolutely beautiful. It was everything we hoped it would be: quaint, quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. We stayed in the Mill Store Cabin and it was fantastic. We had a nice big bath with jets, large enough to fit two people comfortably and a comfortable bed. It is beyond soothing falling asleep to the sound of the running creek right outside your window. it is quite rustic and has preserved its original charm, so if you're looking for something that is extremely luxurious this probably isn't the place for you. However, if you're looking to have a peaceful get-away while immersed in nature this is the place to go. Unfortunately, my wife came down with a cold on the day before we left so was nearly bedridden for the majority of the trip. However, Kevin (the owner) was more than accommodating and even brought her breakfast and dinner over to the cabin so she would not have to get up. Nicest and friendliest man I have ever met. The food was absolutely fantastic, and my wife said that her steak was the best she has ever had. This is the perfect "off the grid" weekend getaway spot in my opinion. read more

my husband and i were trying to find a room in lexington, but the town was all booked up for the weekend, and we ended up at the Osceola Mill. We did not realize what we had signed up for (it was pretty late at night when we booked the B&B) but we were pleasantly surprised! it is a beautiful old mill, a bit rustic, with lots of charm, in a very remote setting about 17 miles outside of lexington. we heard the restaurant at night was great, but we did not have the chance to try it (but if we're ever in that neck of the woods again we will DEFINITELY go back!) the breakfast in the morning was absolutely wonderful. we sat out on the porch and ate a delicious omelet and french toast and it was perfectly ideal. And, the owners are what make this place a real gem. they are wonderful, kind, interesting people and provide all sorts of good advice about the area. if you want a true laid back, friendly b&b experience i definitely recommend this place! read more

We loved this place. It reeks of history :) And we love that. Kevin, the owner, was super-friendly, took his time with us and told us great stories. The restaurant was FANTASTIC, I don't remember exactly what we ate because it was a while ago but it was waaay beyond our expectations. The guest rooms were not top of the line tho', so if you are expecting modernized fixtures and super upscale bedding, etc., it is not the place for you. Consistently good food from start to finish, as well as a lovely wine selection which features local vineyards like Rockbridge and Barren Ridge. Absolutely outstanding. Kevin, the owner and host is one of the friendliest and interesting people I've ever met. He regaled us with tales of the history of the mill as well as Northern NJ (he used to live near where we live now). From arrival to departure, it was one of the best places we've ever stayed. Sure there were some issues like being hot overnight and a stink bug invasion, but you can completely forget these in light of the hospitality and character of the place. From creeky floorboards to the original ceiling beams that were cut in George Washington's time, the mill exudes charm and a fascinating past. Kevin greeted us when we arrived late after a long journey on the BRP and offered to keep the restaurant open for us. We didn't want to impose, so he gave us excellent restaurant recommendations. He then showed us our accommodations and even offered us complimentary healthy glasses of local wine while he walked us through and talked briefly about the history. I loved the charm so much I ended up sitting up for 3 hours reading some of the books in the room while overlooking the mill. In the morning, he prepared breakfast for us which included delicious vegetable omelettes, french toast made from chunky sourdough, and bacon, all locally sourced and incredible. Even the freshly squeezed juice and coffee were delicious. He also has a passion for cars and many car clubs stop here, so he was very interested in our car pick up in SC for which we were travelling. The mill is an incredible place to stay for a night or two when traveling on the Blue Ridge Parkway, or even longer to unwind or explore VA. We're already considering a trip back to disconnect and peruse the rest of the library. read more

A little off the beaten path, but a really great find in Lexington! Had a truly delicious dinner here on a wet, cold night. The small dining area was full of charm and felt warm and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, including an excellent entree of crab cakes (and we're from Maryland, so we are picky about our crabcakes!). excellent place, excellent food. our party of 4 all had steak, prepared in a variety of ways, and it was delicious. my only knock is that the service took forever, but i guess they were slammed, and it didn't appear that they were ready for that. that would not stop me in the least from going back. great food, very reasonable prices. glad we found this place (we're locals too). the owner goes out of his way to make you feel welcome. dinner with a bottle of wine, tax, and tip was about 60/person. read more
