Southern hospitality is alive and well in Lexington, VA thanks to these good folks. Wish I could say the same for the whole town. At Good Place they are inviting and generous no matter who you are or where you come from. That and they know how to cook a mean peach cobbler :) In this angry, divided often hateful world they truly give me hope that humanity can prevail. This is a beautiful place to stay during your visit to Lexington, VA. The place was very rustic and homey. I love the "Great Room" with its high vaulted ceiling and large picture windows--it has a light and airy feeling. The rooms are very cozy and quaint, all with different decor, but all with unique vintage furnishings and the same rustic look as the main common area. I had free Wifi in my room, along with a microwave for snacks, a DVD player and best yet, a FIREPLACE!! The food is delicious and very tasty! It really does feel like home. The B & B staff were courteous, conscientious and very customer-oriented. I really enjoyed my stay here. You can even rent bicycles and ride around the beautiful, verdant grounds. read more

Visited with my family in May of 2018. The old place burned down in 2016 and the owners purchased the current location just up the hill to rebuild and have been working on it since; a beautiful 3-story building built before the Civil War. It is on the rustic side, but very comfortable, considering it is still a work in progress. The ceiling in our suite was supported by huge, hand-hewn wooden beams that appear to be original from the 1860's. The views are unparalleled, especially from the top deck where we were served a wonderful breakfast. The night we arrived, our daughters quickly attached themselves to the newborn kittens playing on the deck. The owners, a young couple named Justin and Olivia, could not have been more gracious and welcoming. Olivia cooked our breakfast to order, even catering to our daughters' gluten-free needs. There are B&Bs that are fancier, but if you are looking for a gorgeous, rural setting, in a historic building, with a farm-fresh feel, offering classic southern hospitality, you'll not find any place much better. *Gave 4-stars instead of 5 merely because the refurbishment isn't completely finished yet and there are cosmetic items like towel racks that need replacement. read more

My girlfriend and I had the pleasure in booking this hidden-gem of a Bed-and-Breakfast out in Lexington, VA. First of all the place is really out in the country, when we drove in we were surrounded by farms and animals all around, we thought we were lost at first. The place is a remodeled old barn and was truly a magnificent sight to see once we reached inside. We were greeted by the charming host Justin. Justin is truly a renaissance man who I encourage you to ask about his interesting background. An early modeling career to business man in owning his own modeling company, chef, pilot, photographer, carpenter, painter you name it. He was extremely nice and very welcoming the whole time we stayed there. He provides the top-notch southern charm hospitality. We stayed at the Rustic Charm room, the only room with the single bed and huge room. We were quite pleased in the renovations done with a cute rustic charm throughout. I could tell that he still had more work to do but it fit perfectly for the weekend for us. Justin was also our personnel chef for the night and was pretty open in our requests for food and boy did the food taste amazing! We were stuffed and the food presented seemed like from a 5 star restaurant. The breakfast in the morning was also top notch ( I recommend the Bacon! cooked perfectly) All and all it was a great experience for us and I highly recommend any future travelers. read more

Super impressive rustic hideaway (almost like a treehouse) in the mountains; FULLY STOCKED with everything you could want for our group of 9. Phenomenal common area with reclining chairs, games, dining table, kitchenware, spices, fresh farm produce + free cooked breakfast by Justin who made everything with ingredients from his farm on the property! Sheets and towels were very clean. A lot of very cool, eclectic rooms to choose from! We barbecued on the grill in the evening and unfortunately only stayed one night, but we'll be back! read more

We booked to stay here but unfortunately due to a technological glitch (that was NOT Good Place's fault), our room was double-booked. Justin from Good Place was super apologetic and instantly found us another wonderful place to stay that night during the peak of fall in Shenandoah! Dozens of our friends have stayed at this B&B and we booked it a year in advance for our college reunion. As we were driving up to what might have been the B&B on a huge gravel hill we were blocked by trucks and people cutting down trees. We thought the timing of tree removal was strange considering it was our check-in time. So we reversed our car because there was nowhere to go and asked a man in a truck for help. Interesting enough, it was the owner, Justin. He told us that we would be staying in a white cottage instead of the B&B down the road. Apparently he said Airbnb double booked and there was a Bachelorette party booked at the B&B. Come to find out, it ended up being other Alumni from the same reunion and not a Bachelorette party. He mentioned they had it booked 8 months ago and that we wouldn't have a "good stay" if we stayed in our original booking room anyways. We booked first but somehow the people who booked later received priority. This seemed really odd to us but we were really happy to hear we still had a place to stay. After all, we had been looking forward to this weekend for over a year. FYI- we never even got the chance to see the B&B because that wasn't even an option presented to us. This "white cottage" was referred to by the owner as looking like a "crack house" but he assured us that the inside was really nice and this house was an "upgrade" from what we originally booked. This "upgraded house" is right on the busy gravel road, no Mountain View, and is not a rental advertised at all. There wasn't even a designated parking spot. Laundry was running when we arrived as well as the dishwasher. There was one bed when we paid for a suite room with two beds and a pullout couch to sleep up to 6 people. The owner offered to bring us a blow up mattress which he never brought. The real concern was the air mattress would have to be downstairs while the other bed was located upstairs. Our children are 6, 4, and 2 so I wasn't exactly very comfortable with us sleeping on separate floors and the house only had one real bed. When I asked about breakfast, the owner mentioned that he needed to check with the other guests at the B&B to see if they were having breakfast because he serves breakfast in the B&B. He never led us to believe that breakfast was included with our "upgraded house" and the topic was just dropped from there. The entire situation seemed really awkward and we felt like we were a huge inconvenience. We understand that mixups happen and we were grateful that Justin was able to make a place for us. We could have overlooked so much of this situation but we really didn't feel welcome. A little hospitality would have gone a long way and we just wish things had turned out differently. After all, we had our three young kids that were so excited to stay on "the farm" and we really wanted to make it work. After an hour of waiting on Justin to get our blowup mattress, we just felt like paying close to $500 for the weekend in the "white crack house" with zero hospitality was just not worth it for us. In the end Good Place Farm was just not a "good place" for us. We tried to track the owner down to let him know but we couldn't find him. Thankfully we ended up seeing his mother drive by and we told her we weren't staying. Her response was "Ok, I will tell my son." We were completely refunded but the experience just left a bad taste in our mouth. We never received a heart felt apology and the start to our reunion weekend was a huge disappointment. We really hope this doesn't happen to anyone else in the future because trying to find another place to stay in Lexington on a reunion weekend is vertically impossible especially when you have three kids. Hopefully the hospitality and communication will improve because it could be a really fun B&B to make some unforgettable memories with your kids. The farm animals were adorable! Unfortunately, we won't be trying it out again. read more
