Let me start by saying we adopted multiple dogs from this place, however we find that any communication and interaction with these people proves to be difficult After the change in leadership. We have since adopted two dogs from Green bay. I tried to donate food and items and it very difficult to almost impossible. We now donate and have adopted two d from Greenbay. The people at the Humane Society are very helpful. It is obvious that they care about the animals! We had the option of fostering before making the commitment to adopt in order to assure the pet is a good addition to our family. I would kindly ask that the adoption policy be updated. Filling out an adoption application online before being able to even come in to meet the animals doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's like buying a car online you have never seen. I love the shelter, worked there walking dogs as my first job under Jonie, but how can you expect anyone to adopt a dog when they can't even come in to see them? Open the doors back up. read more

Friendly enough girl who answered the phone, however the hours make it nearly impossible for anyone with a normal job to take in a pet/animal. Refused to take in an animal with 2 hours left because the last two hours are supposedly reserved for medical treatment. I guess keeping a cat off the streets isint medically necessary. Told the lady I was speaking to I was going to leave the cat on the street then, she laughed and said "alright". Think she thought I was joking but the only joke is their fake attitude about caring with the hours they have and restrictions on taking animals in. read more

They're listed on the OPD website to contact if needing help with stray animals, but they can't even return a phone call. I actually called three times. I called twice last week and spoke with two different people who took my name and number. They told me someone would call me back to discuss my options. No one ever returned my call so I called them for a third time today. The person who answered the phone just added the my frustration. She seemed irritated that I was calling for help with strays and actually said, "What do you want us to do about it?" I replied, "OHS's number is listed on the OPD's website to contact for help." She then transferred me to someone else, but I was on hold for so long I hung up. So the moral of the story is to take matters into your own hands if dealing with strays in your yard (3 cats on a mightly basis), and avoid the frustration of trying to get assistance. The police have proven to me that they don't want to deal with strays, nor does OHS. read more

As the previous person posted, 2 ladies that work in the dog department need some serious customer service training. One of them acts like she is on some drug that puts her in a catatonic stupor. The other one is snappy and rude. I filled out an application. Nowhere on the application did it ask for references. I asked them if they needed personal references, and they said no. So, .....huh? I own my own house. What are they going to reference, then? That I own my house? I own my own house. Then the lady snaps that they decide who is the best fit for the dog. On what basis? What I am wearing. Whatever it is, it's very subjective IMHO. I think this place is a racket. read more

I have been to a handful of shelters and humane societies in the different places I have lived and this is a fantastic Humane Society. All the volunteers are awesome and the staff is very knowledgeable. The facility itself is laid out very nicely. You have the ability to see all the animals up for adoption and can even take them out for more one on one time to find the best fit for the family. They also don't just let anyone walk in off the street and make sure whomever is getting adopted goes to a great home that they won't be returned in a few months or a home that would be just as stressful as the shelter. They also regularly have events outside of the shelter so you can see the dogs in a non shelter environment which can be a night and day difference in how they act. The next animal I adopt will definitely come from here. read more

The staff and workers are great, very friendly and caring. The paperwork or application is easy to follow, the animals are well taken care of with plenty of toys and food. You also can get the history of your pet by the paperwork, so that is a good thing to look at, before deciding on adopting it. The shelter is very organized and clean, no bad smells. I like the meet and greet of the pet area, you can walk in and spend sometime with the one you adopted. It makes a person feel good, rescuing either a cat or dog that really needs a loving forever home. More like you're giving them a wonderful Christmas gift of love. This shelter may have a God complex. They seem to be able to look at a person and tell instantly what they can or can not handle as far as an animal is concerned. After over a month of back and forth, meeting the never-ending need for more information, references, contacting our vet (who gave us a glowing review) we still were not deemed to be a good family. I have a feeling they knew all along whom they wanted for the pet, and yet, they kept our hopes up. I know the right match is out there, we just will not be looking for it in Oshkosh. Cold, judgemental staff. Stay clear - it's too bad for those cats - they seem to have many of them running around the shelter in need of a good home, but I fear they will never find them. read more

I'm wondering why it's easier to buy a gun than adopt a cat. ...especially when they have so many cats who need homes. we applied for a cat thursday and when I called them on sat they said our landlord hadn't returned their call. - in reality he had already talked to them and they were wrong. ..and when I told them that, they said, "oh sorry, someone didn't do their job right". it took them 5 days to get supervisor approval and call us back. in the meantime we already found a cat elsewhere. their "you must take 2 cats" policy is ridiculous and wouldn't be necessary if they were just open normal business hours and didn't take 5 days to approve families. read more

If you would find it easier to buy a gun than get a cat from the OAHS, then perhaps there is a valid reason for you not to have/get one. Your attitude and the comments about being open normal business hours is also off the wall...I have had many years working with humane societies and you have no idea how many people and hours it takes to keep the animals vetted, fed, cages kept clean, and dealing people in general plus many more things it takes to keep things running and keeping the animals healthy. Dealing with the general public when it involves animals/pets (people with your attitude) "who just don't get it", is more than a full time job. Where do you get off demeaning anyone?? People do make mistakes and there are many people working on a daily basis to help find FOREVER homes for the animals they care for. Nice facility, but when I applied to adopt a dog, a neighbor/co-worker privately intervened and claimed that I had health problems that hurt my ability to care for an animal. When I inquired about my rejection, adoption counselor Ann lied and claimed that her information came from Google rather than this private (and uninformed) individual. In short, you aren't allowed to face your accusers at Oshkosh Humane--heresay information is taken at face value. They hide such practices, of course, behind a concern for the animals. read more

I was surprised at the 1 star reviews as I have adopted cats and a dog from this shelter. It was fast and easy. Working with the staff was fine. A few years ago I was one of the volunteer dog walkers and the dogs were always walked by volunteers. So unless things have recently changed drastically, I find this shelter to be one of the better ones I've seen. They also clip my cat's claws for me when needed, no charge, as I can't do it myself. read more

The Oshkosh humane society is probably the one of the worst places to get an animal firstly they don't walk or do anything with there dogs including house breaking the refuse to work with dogs that have major mental problems the dogs rarely go outside and are house in concrete box barely big enough for a bigger dog to walk ing most of the dogs have no bed and maybe only 2 toys most of the service people are very rude they will Insult you for not having loads of money letting a dog outside and wanting to ruffhouse they also will kill any animal that isn't perfect in case of point I was given a rabbit that I couldn't take care of this rabbit was abused was very large and could not be picked up without getting really scared my mother talked to the humane society about taking her in for adoption and they said that any rabbit they get that can't do their business in a litter box and be picked up will be euthanized AKA killed I was also given a dog that I loved dearly but a few years after we got him his health crashed and we couldn't afford his medications so with a heavy heart my mom talked to the humane society my mother went to talk about adoption this time the lady told us that they woudent take any dog needing medications and that he would be killed so we had to keep him even though we could not afford his medications his vet helped pay with her own money so my dog could live we went back recentyand the humane society had survivors of hurricane Harvey those dogs had severe P.T.S.D but they didn't help the dogs not to mention that if you have younger kids they will refuse to let you adopt an active dog one of my last qualms about the Oshkosh humane society is that they won't let children volunteer so I defiantly woudent go here there are many better friendlier shelters in the area read more

Extremely helpful people that work here. They are super nice and respectful and are willing to do anything to get you the right pet that suits your needs and won't give a pet to someone that shouldn't have one. They take really good care of their animals as well, they have sooo many cats and only a handful of dogs. They also have a connection to a great neutering/spaying place and they do all that stuff for you and add a free rabies shot with your purchase. read more
