For some reason, this review is showing as coming from San Francisco - I have no idea why. We are from Sturgeon Bay WI. My husband and I just adopted a dog here 3 days ago, and truly believe that, if we hadn't taken him home that day, he would not be alive now. The dog was neutered on Friday, shipped from Kentucky to Wisconsin on Friday or maybe Saturday, and up for adoption on Sunday, when we found him. He wasn't on any pain medication, nor did he have an e-collar to prevent him from licking his incision, which looked like it had been stitched up by someone with absolutely no veterinary training. He was at least 10 pounds underweight, and he desperately needed bathing. By Tuesday the sutures had popped open and he had a nasty infection, requiring a very expensive surgery. Testing before surgery revealed that he had pellets from a BB gun in one leg, had slight pneumonia, and has indicators of Lyme disease. None of this was disclosed when we adopted him. As another reviewer said, the $400 adoption fee (which is considered a "donation" and is non-refundable if you return the pet) would be fine if the pets were properly cared for and if all medical conditions were disclosed. It seems that the shelter owners want to get as many animals in and out as quickly as possible, with minimal investment in their care. In fact, the woman who worked with us said that they do not have a veterinarian on staff. As far as the facility: there was a strong smell of urine when we came into the building, and there were quite a few flies around. We didn't see where the animals are kept, but were told that all the dogs were in one area during the day, with access to go outdoors, and that at night they were in kennels, two or three to a kennel. Outdoor areas had privacy fencing so we couldn't see what they were like. read more

We adopted our puppy, Jack (formerly known as Duke), from NEW Pawsibilities on July 4, 2020. He was one of three littermates all from Kentucky. When we got the dogs, they seemed fine and healthy but unfortunately all three were exposed to parvo before making the trip to Wisconsin. When we chose to rescue rather than purchase from a breeder, we knew there were risks involved, especially rescuing a puppy who was too young to have had all of his shots yet. Jim and his crew stood by our puppies 100% and did everything in their power to bring the pups back to health. Two were treated at the rescue free of charge (ours included), and we firmly believe Jim saved their lives. During the process, he updated us twice daily and was available all times of the day and night once we brought Jack back home to answer questions about what was "normal" during parvo recovery. It's clear he is truly in this to help save dogs, and he saved ours. We are so grateful and can't speak highly enough about our experience. So many of the negative reviews feel really unfair. When you rescue, you are bringing home a dog from a high population area who has been exposed to lots of different environmental factors. To expect a blank slate is unrealistic. Saving dogs takes work, and we knew that going in to the experience. To Jim and everyone at NEW Paws, thank you SO MUCH for bringing our amazing dog into our life. Apparently they do not care about the people or animals. Adopted a dog for $300. I thought it was a good price since he had his shots and was neutered. I took the dog in for a che k up at my vet and he seemed fine. By the next day we new something was wrong and after talking to my vet it now seems he may need surgery. I contacted NEW Paws. and stated i wasn't pleased and cannot afford such costs. They offered to take him back. I drove 40 min to bring him back and only then was i told no refunds. The $300 was a donation not a purchase and they never refund. Seems to me that if they cared about the animals they wouldnt want someone to be forced to keep a dog they dont want. It felt very run down and low quality. Took our puppy here for daycare, and it was all closed off so you could not see where they were being kept or playing, no certainty. When we picked him up, he seemed skiddish and scared, he's never like that. He smelled horribly of feces and urine like he was just sitting in that all day. We won't be back. read more

Meet Miss Margot. She chose me at NEW Pawsibilities. I'm a wheelchair user and when she met me, she came over and licked my hand. Jim also knew -a true dog lover- that she was meant for me. We left together that day - forever. Since then, Margot and I have learned together how to make things work. She has incredible patience when I'm stuck and she's proven to stick by my side in all jams. I worked with a trainer to improver her manners. She was impressed with Margot knowing to jump up to allow me to attach leash. She sits by my side ensuring no one messes with me. I've been asked if she's a service dog, no, she's just that smart. While I appreciate her hunting skills, the dead groundhog on my bed was not a meal I prepared. She continues to make me laugh and wouldn't trade her for any other dog. I figured I would do a review. We met Daphne at The Depawsitory meet and greet in downtown Appleton around June or July of 2019. We were leaving the shop, when we saw this ball of fur cowering in a corner. No one tried to pick her up or pet her. So we went back in and decided to give her a little love and attention. We sat still and just let her move closer to us until she finally climbed into my lap. Carmen the organizer looked over and said OMG! I can't believe she is letting anyone hold her or love on her. Once she fell asleep in the hubby's arms we knew she was ours. So we adopted this sweet little girl. She is definitely a different pup than when we met her. Since coming home with us she has a big brother ( boxer) to show her the way and play with. Unfortunately she has taught him the art of power chewing through toys. Trust me you would think there is a hoard of toddlers in my home with all the pup toys. So we go through toys at least once or twice a week. A few days after we brought her home we found out she had worms, we called New Pawsibilities and they had us bring her in to check her. They did give her a dose of medication until we could get to our vet appointment the following week. They did offer to take her back if we weren't ready for these type of issues especially since we had another puppy at home. But really how could we give her back, big brother was already attached and even let her sleep in his bed. After her vet visit we found out she is only a day difference from her big brother in birthdays. So it was definitely a match. She is happy, healthy, playful, love able and funny. I definitely would recommend one of their events for a public meet and greet, this way you can really see them and maybe a glimpse into their personality. Seeing them in a shelter is probably more stressful than being out in public. Adopt if you can, don't over look the shy, older or medical needs fur babies. They needs us as much as we need them. read more

This is an amazing place with a great staff! They SAVE over 90% of the dog in Kentucky thru Wi. They are friendly and easy to work with. They offer a fantastic "OPEN" play area for all dog in a large yard so the pups are able to run and enjoy life instead of stuffing hem into a cage or pen until they get adopted. I would always recommend them over the humane society. Paws is a NO kill shelter unlike the Humane society - not so humane! Ask for Jim. Easy to find location off algoma blvd. Oshkosh. My wife and I view dog ownership differently than most folks. We DID NOT want to buy a puppy for $1200 from a breeder. We did not want the perfect dog with the best bloodlines. We wanted to help save an animal from an uncertain future, possibly its destruction, and give it a good life. April 30, 2020 we adopted/rescued a 2 yr old boy beagle from NEW Paws. He had just arrived from Ky just a few days before. Like so many animals in shelters, his recent past involved terrible neglect. He was missing alot of hair on his chest and feet from a skin issue. He was underweight. He also had an infection from a neuter surgery done just before he came to WI. He was anything but "picture perfect". As it turned out that made him perfect for us. Its become our opinion that a shelter is sort of a half way house for last chance dogs. They can only do so much to help these displaced animals. Our particular dog was going to require intense medical attention. Maybe more than a shelter could provide? Knowing all this, we chose to bring him home with us anyway and do our best. Our new dog had never been inside a house before he came home with us, he didn't know how to walk on a leash, he knew no voice commands, definitely not potty-trained, he never had a treat or a chew toy before. The real rescue and rehabilitation started the day we brought him into our lives. Seven months later our dog is perfect, he's healthy, happy and a joy to live with. He loves everyone he meets, but he's crazy about young kids. We are really thankful NEW Paws started the rescue process with us and hope they continue to do so for many otherwise forgotten dogs. Got our rescue dog there. Wish had read the review first. She was supposed to be a 2 yr old 12 lb healthy dog from Ky. Took her home and bathed her as she was filthy and they had just gotten her the day before. She had fleas, wouldn't eat and had diarrhea. Took her to our vet. She had bacterial infection and eat mites. Also weighed 9 lbs and 4-5 the old. After two months of care and several had and $$$ hundreds she is a healthy 12 lb.lovable dog but certainly not what we were promised. Awful place that doesn't care about pets!!! read more

I think they have a good heart but I will always prefer to adopt from the humane society. We adopted a hound mix back in August and were told certain things about her personality that she was medium energy and a great apartment dog. We made them aware we were first time adopters as well. We took her home and she adjusted just fine, eating well, very playful and comfortable but was EXTREMELY high energy. No fault of her own but she was not a good fit for our family. We felt we weren't given an accurate description of her personality and we felt rushed into the adoption process. They offer same day adoptions and don't do any background or home checks and no real adoption interview, it seems like they're just always in a rush to get dogs into homes even though they might not always be the greatest fit. We called the shelter looking for some guidance on how best to rehome her and instead of the worker being calm and willing to reason with us we were met with anger, hostility and insults, and were told we were terrible people. We gave her a loving home for the time we had her but she was simply just not the right fit for us and were the shelter a little more thorough with their adoption process and more transparent I feel like this would not have happened. She was adopted days later, I'm sure because she was such a sweet girl and I'm glad she got out of that shelter quickly, the dogs don't look well taken care of either. read more

This place honestly disgusts me. They do not care about any of the animals that they so called shelter. With the ways these animals are being treated they might as well have been left out on the street because they are not cared for what so ever here. It sickens me that a place like this can live with themselves knowing full well that none of the dogs that they are sheltering are healthy. My boyfriend adopted a puppy yesterday April 24th 2022. Today April 25th 2022 he was forced to surrender her BACK TO THE SAME PLACE THAT SHE WAS NEGLECTED AT. I never met Paisley (which is what we renamed her, her original name was Tila) because we are both college students and I go to school 3 hours away from him. We had every intention of caring for this beautiful little fur baby who loved to give kisses and hugs. I saw her over facetime interact with him and fell in love with her she is the sweetest thing ever. When he was there he asked about any medical information and they reassured him she was perfectly healthy other than the fact that she had an ulcer on her belly that could be treated when he took her to get fixed. When she got home he had noticed that she had a cough and was spitting up mucus. We had heard from the Humane Society in Waukesha WI that some dogs can develop upper respiratory infections while being in a shelter and that if caught early it would be treatable with antibiotics. He brought her to the vet today April 25th 2022 and the vet seemed very concerned with her health. They said they think that she has pneumonia and that her lungs are very weak and could possibly have asthma. After hearing this and getting some antibiotics for her he promptly called N.E.W Pawsabilities to ask if they had any knowledge of this cough and if they did why they would withhold this information from him. Their response was simply they didn't know she had it. How does a shelter that praises themselves for rescuing and caring for dogs not notice when a puppy is that sick? She was coughing so much I could hear her over the phone. Pneumonia does not develop overnight and the only answer to this is that they simply neglected her. They even admitted on the phone that the group that she was with did not receive very much attention from the employees. This is sick to me. No dog should deserve to go through this. After a $300 adoption fee $160 on toys, food, crate, and training materials and $287 vet bills he did not see a way that he could provide for this sick little baby that he had fallen in love with. He did not want to bring her back to this horrid place but had no choice because the contract that he signed was legally binding. He contacted a local humane and animal well fare society to see if he could bring her there to know she would have the proper treatment that she needed however they said they could not because of the contract that he signed with N.E.W. Pawsabilities. So sadly he returned her to the shelter with a police officer from Osh Kosh and had made sure that they will file a report with the city to make sure that this shelter was on some ones radar. I am so upset that I will not be able to meet the sweet girl that I thought would become our absolute best friend and that he had to give her up because this place lies about what type of health conditions these puppys have as well as completely neglects their animals. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. If you are going to adopt from here be ready to pay expensive vet bills in order to get them up to proper health. These dogs are not being rescued by N.E.W Pawsabilities they need to be rescued from this place. I hope that our baby Paisley will find a home where she can give as many kisses as she wants as well as a home that has the finances to treat her for all of the medical expenses that she requires. Its sad how one place can ruin your excitement about adopting a pet and I hope nobody has to experience this ever again. read more

DO NOT! I repeat DO NOT adopt a dog from here. Recently adopted a puppy and after one day he went to the vet. One day went by and he seemed ok, only to have things take a turn for the worse that night. After two full days our puppy was hospitalized. Sadly he has passed away after less than a week. The vet I go to was in shock that he was adopted out after seeing how quickly he deteriorated. Our puppy died from either parvovirus or distemper, each is a very quick moving deadly disease; both of which he showed symptoms of the night we brought him home. From my experience, it is my belief that the owner has no business whatsoever pretending to rescue dogs, as he obviously cannot follow through and actually rescue the poor dogs as he claims he does. The owner that runs this shelter is heartless and opportunistic. What is important to him is the business transaction and cares nothing about the dogs he claims to rescue. My sweet dog came complete with scabies, bacterial skin infections, and bloody diarrhea. It's especially difficult to miss blood in the stools, one would think! I decided it would be in the best interest of the sweet dog to not surrender it back to this awful man and, thus, we are still working on getting her healthy (I got her in June). The fees are hefty, which to me would be ok if the dogs were getting proper care/diagnosis, as many rescue shelters provide. The guy happily covers his arse by making you sign a paper that frees him of responsibility for any medical issues the dog has--and that's because he spends the minimal amount possible on each dog. Most shelters make it a point to nurse rescues back to health or at the least diagnose them and tell potential owners of medical concerns. I have heard that if you return your dog, there is a hefty fee; all this makes me wonder what % of people have to take their dog back. Also did not get a good impression of the place when I was there. read more

Very disappointed, I boarded my dog there for the weekend and when I picked her up she smelled horrible. Her underbelly was covered in dry urine and she had feces on her hind leg. When I got her home and bathed her the water turned yellow from the urine. Later that afternoon she became very sick with diarrhea, vomiting, shaking, and breathing heavy. I ended up taking her to the ER in Appleton at 12:30 am to get an IV, X-ray, anti nausea shot and antibiotics costing me $350. When I questioned why I received my dog back in this condition, the owner told me that she was fine during her stay there and that she must have urinated on a blanket overnight and laid in it. I am sorry but in the 11 years of my dogs life she has never urinated on a blanket and then laid on it. She is a black lab that is very clean and would never choose to lay in her own urine if she was given a choice. The story that I was given did not make any sense. I was told that I would be given a free weekend of boarding if I chose to bring her there again in the future. I will not be taking my dogs there ever again and I suggest that anyone reading this does not either if they care for the well being of their dog!!! read more

I actually should start my review by thanking my sister, as if it wasn't for her we would've never gone here. She had not adopted, but works in Oshkosh. I couldn't imagine myself with another dog after Hunter had passed. Then it became quiet, and living in the country at night for me is creepy. My husband had said "we need a dog" after I kept hearing things. Your place is very clean. Even the meet and greet room. We picked our 3, waited patiently for the 1st to arrive while watching the many dogs play outside in an inviting play yard for ALL dogs. Each dog we saw was very well maintained and full of energy, except.......one. She was an 8 wk old puppy. I'm so glad we were able to take her home the same day. The staff was easy to talk to, helped us with any questions we may have had. I've told many where we adopted. Keep up the good work. It shows. read more

My family and I have very mixed emotions of our experience here! We thought we were adopting through a great agency until we got our new pet home. We had come to find out that our little girl was filled with multiple worms, a respiratory infection, kennel cough, and eye infection. After the adoption fees and buying things for a new puppy; for us to turn around and spend another couple hundred dollars in medicle bills to treat illnesses that should have been done before adoption was very unexpected! We were told by N.E.W. PAWSibilities that the animals are all checked by a vet before adoption. So how is it our new baby was so ill?? As the days go on our new puppy is getting better. As the days go on I'm hearing more and more stories of puppies going to the E.R. For major medical problems from this agency! Breaks my heart that this facility can keep their reputation when there has been so many miss treated health care?? read more

I've never had to bring one of my dogs to a daycare, or get boarded over night. However working full time, and having a super hyper dog in a small apartment, I felt like I had no choice. To be honest, I first started taking him to N.E.W. Pawsibilities for daycare because it was the cheapest one I found. He started going when he was a puppy, only a few times every few weeks. My boyfriend would drop him off, and pick him up. I never thought there were any issues. One day he came home from daycare, and a chunk of his ear was ripped off. He was bleeding everywhere. That should have been my first sign that something was wrong. No one who was working called me, or even seemed concerned. All they told my boyfriend when he picked him up, was that another dog got "too playful." Too playful is maybe a scratch mark... not a gouge out of his ear. Not to mention, it didn't heal for WEEKS. Even if it was "too playful", please don't send my dog home full of blood, and at least give me a call. After that, I stopped taking him there for awhile. I ended up moving to Neenah into an apartment a few months later. My boyfriend and I were going to be out of town. We decided to bring our dog back to N.E.W. Pawsibilities for one over night stay. We picked him up the next day, and he was extremely tired, but seemed okay. Although I stopped bringing him there for daycare, it was always the back-up plan for when we went out of town. The next time I dropped him off, he didn't want to come in the door. He laid down, and he was struggling to pull back as I was trying to pull him in. That should have been my second clue. My dog never does this. He loves other dogs, and he is always excited to go to new places (even the vet's office.) The next time we brought him overnight was last weekend. This one was for a 2 night stay. When we picked him up, he was completely filthy. He is a white dog, and he was covered in black. Even his name tag (which is a Brewer's baseball) was extremely dirty. Not only was he dirty, but he was acting strange. We got home around 2:30, and he slept all day. The next morning, he still didn't want to get up. This isn't like him... at all. I don't know what goes on behind those doors, but I'm not impressed. They never tell us how he did, when he ate, or anything of that nature. After reading other reviews, I have decided that I am never bringing him back there again. I wish I wasn't so ignorant before, and realized this sooner. I am just thankful he didn't get sick like other dogs I have read in reviews. I am more than willing to pay a little extra at a different place, just so I know my dog is in a SAFE and CLEAN facility. I want him to enjoy his time there. Like I said, I don't know what goes on behind the doors, so bring your dog there at your own risk. From reading other reviews, and from my experience I feel like it's 50/50. However, I love my dog too much to ever take him there again. read more
